    Stumbled upon this walk-up bakery/coffeeshop. The line was 10-15 deep and we need we had to order something. Belly was full and the pastries were amazing!

    Garlic & cream cheese bagel, pretzel, corn cheese bagel

    They no longer sell tarts! Their bagels - they bake fresh throughout the day. It's takeaway only and we ordered their garlic butter & cream bagel, pretzel, and corn cheese bagel. Our fav was the garlic bagel w a bit of sweetness, tasted great w coffee! Bagels and pretzels weren't too heavy as well!

    Food: it looks like a completely different store, variety in bagel selections with flavors, ingredients could be more refined, missing the og items a bit, not sure if the team would ever consider to revisit Service: speedy transactional experience, kind enough to provide some recommendation, it is difficult as bagel is more of an interpersonal experience Ambiance: display continues to attract people passing by, perhaps more options in beverages may be a good combo with bagels

    I had been curious to try the garlic cream cheese bagel in LA but was too lazy to drive to Koreatown to get one. When I found out that Bake 49 had them and was walking distance from my hotel, I knew I had to visit. Bake49 recently pivoted from selling croissants and egg tarts to bagels. They make a limited quantity of the garlic butter cream cheese bagels every day, but also offer a variety of other bagels and bagel sandwiches, all sold from a tiny little window in Yaletown. I got a couple of breakfast bagels - one with bacon and one with only egg and cheese. They were ok. I've been spoiled by really incredible bagels in LA and these didn't have as much chew as I would have liked. I took one bite of the garlic cream cheese bagel and was surprised to find that the cream cheese was sweet. It was a little odd at first, but the next thing I knew, I was scarfing down the rest of it (this after eating my BEC bagel) and making mmmmm sounds as I ate. Would definitely come back for this one the next time I'm in the area! There is no seating at Bake49, but Yaletown has some outdoor dining areas where you can eat. I took my bagels down a few block and ate them by the marina.

    When I came, it was 1:30pm and the selection was slim. The tarts wouldn't be ready until 2pm and I was in a hurry so grabbed whatever they had. I tried their Dark Chocolate NY Croissant - this was delicious, packed with cream in the middle, but yet the Croissant stayed flaky and not mushy. Worth getting. I also tried their Matcha and Sesame Palmier - this tasted a bit burnt, especially the sesame side. The matcha side was so sweet it probably covered up the burnt taste. I'd probably avoid their palmiers in the future. There is no sit down area. Order at the counter that's right in front of the door.

    We were walking around Yaletown when we noticed the tiny window selling various tarts. But what caught my eye was the eclair-shaped cream puff and "limit 3/person" sign underneath it. Of course I had to try one! .... And it was divine. It has a mix of custard and cream inside with a very nice crunch on top. Perfect flavor/texture combination. Definitely try one!!! Because of limited stomach space, I did not try any other pastry offered here.

    Blink twice and you may miss Bake49 since it's takeout only. However, their Dalgona Matcha Latte ($5.40) is not something you want to miss! The coffee sensation that took the world by storm is reimagined by Bake49 as a lightly whipped matcha on iced milk and topped with dalgona honeycomb pieces. The aeration in the matcha makes it nice and creamy, adding a touch of bitterness to the cold milk. The crisp honeycomb pieces, once melted, lend a rich, sweet toffee flavour to balance the drink out. Although I'm not sure if the sweetness level can be adjusted (as is the case with the Matcha Latte ($5.30)), you can ask for less ice and substitute the milk with oat milk or almond milk (+$0.50). Either way, you'll want to stir the drink well to blend the flavours together and break down the honeycomb pieces for that full-bodied flavour. This stunning drink is refreshing, tasty, and, compared to other drinks in the area, very unique and well-priced. Bake49 also offers sandwiches and bagels, many of which are Asian fusion. While I have yet to try any, it looks like there's something for everyone judging from the flavours alone - from a classic Plain or Everything to a savoury Red Bean & Cream Cheese, Coffee Bun, or Bacon Scallion Cheese. Sadly, they no longer offer their cheese tarts or cream puffs. Everything can be pre-ordered online and picked up at the window. I ordered in person, but my drinks were made fairly quickly and the service was good too. Paid parking can be found out front. Next time, I'll have to give the Asian fusion bagels a try since I only know of one other place in town that offers something similar.

    We passed this shop in the evening on weekend. I wanted to try their croissant & pastry but they already sold out. So, I bought their cheese tarts. - Original cheese tarts: the crust was flaky and good - baked perfectly! The original cheese filling was creamy and tasted good. However, I was disappointed since the filling was very runny (more like liquid cheese) and it was dripping on my hand. I had cheese tarts before so I know it wasn't supposed to be this runny. - Matcha cheese tarts: the crust was good. The filling tasted good and I could definitely taste the matcha flavor. However, the filling wasn't set properly. It was a bit better than the original but it was still a bit too soft & runny in the middle. I'm not sure why the cheese filling was runny and wasn't set. Maybe it was the end of the day and the cheese tarts were placed on the hot tray all day (?). Otherwise, the taste was good and I might try them again next time. I'd suggest to come there in the morning.

    Been wanting to try this place for a while and finally got to try it out! It's just a pick up window in yaletown, so not super rainy day friendly but I thought the concept was cute and their display is done really well. The dalgona coffee was so interesting with these toffee toppings (see picture), but the flavor was so rich, creamy and good. The garlic bagel was surprisingly kind of sweet? I was under the impression that this bagel would be savoury but it was a good mix of savoury and sweet because of the garlic combined with the cream cheese. It was also more bread-y with a light smear of cream cheese so it didn't feel heavy to eat. I really enjoyed and can't wait to go back and try their other items.

    Have walked past this little gem many times and could never understand why there is a persistent queue from open to close. Well folks, today we decided to cave in our FOMO and our curiosity. A line of 10ish folks is ahead of us. There's a sign "whatever we have on display table is all we have right now". 40-50 ish Japanese cheese tarts left. We should be ok. Uh-uh. Folks were buying dozens by dozens at a time. Line moved fairly quickly. Whew, we managed to snag a few- 2x original and a matcha. Needless to say the tarts vanished in a flash. Tis good. Very good in fact. B49 is Bake 49. An artisanal pastry shop. Looking in, the place is the size of a broom closet. Take-out only. Ppl don't seem to mind. Folks who have tried B49's other pastries like croissants and danishes, tell me they are equally fresh af. Not sure what the 49 stands for. Version 49? Or latitude 49? Anyways. Name is not really telling that this is a nano Japanese bakery dedicated to excellence. This they deliver in spades. There are plenty of open seating nearby in Yaletown to enjoy the catch. Definitely will be back to try more. Highly recommended.

    4.5 stars. This place has been on my "Vancouver list" for awhile, after seeing it on Instagram a long time ago. After visiting Japan and having amazing cheese tarts there, I was curious about Bake49's version. We arrived randomly around 1:50 and noticed the sign that says the tarts are not ready until 2:00 p.m. Great timing overall, as we killed some time at a shop nearby and then came back at 2:00 and people were starting to line up. We tried the matcha and regular cheese tart -- the matcha had strong matcha flavor which I really enjoyed. The regular one was tasty as well! Would have tried the other 2 (black sesame and strawberry) but we were pacing ourselves. My only minor complaint is the inside is that the inside of the tart is a tiny bit more runny than I'd like. I do like that its so soft and gooey but it can quickly turn into a mess if you aren't careful. The crust was really nicely done. Will definitely go back and look forward to trying some of their other treats as well! Note: This is a walk-up window only.

    BAGEL ME UP PLEASE I stopped by @bakefortynine yesterday to try out their revamped menu. Bake49 is a hidden little gem tucked away behind a window on Mainland St in Yaletown. They were well known for their pastries like cheese tarts and croissants. However, unfortunately, Bake49 no longer sells their famous cheese tarts, croissants, or puffs But, they may just be the best bagel spot in town now. Their line up of bagels include your classics like sesame and everything bagel, as well as unique flavours like pretzel, almond, and red bean. They also have a selection of bagel sandwiches that look absolutely delicious. I grabbed the honey walnut cream cheese bagel and a plain pretzel bagel to go. And let me tell you guys, I mean it when I say that was one of the best bagels I've ever had. Like, on par with the bagels in New York type of good. I disassembled the cream cheese bagel once I got him to re-toast the sesame bagel that it came on. I also added some left over salmon and chicken breast that I had into it afterwards. And oh, my, god this thing was amazing. I'm seriously not exaggerating. The shell of the bagel was really nice and crunchy, the inside was soft and chewy, and toasted sesame seeds added such a punch of flavour. The honey walnut cream cheese was also a perfect balance of sweet and savoury. Made my plain chicken breast that I added in taste so much better. I'm genuinely sad that they don't make pastries anymore, but also elated that they now do bagels. Because Vancouver is definitely still quite lacking in bagelries.     Got here right when the cheese tarts came out to see what the hype was about. First time trying a cheese tart & although it was warm & flaky, the tanginess of the cheese didn't blend together with the black sesame. It was just an odd taste, where the savory & sweet didn't quite meld together.

    Pretty pricy wat for u get n the taste isnt as authentic as the ones in japan. Would not recommend though

Well it seems ownership has changed and the new owner doesn't give two craps about prior customers, honoring discounts, replying back timely or being more friendly? Was playing email tag and finally submitted the 39 flavors and didn't hear back until after another week and then told they won't deliver only in morning when they know our reservation was for 730pm and they're open until 9? I even replied back and nothing. We own and run several business in lower mainland and in United States and this customer service from Unni Pastries is trash. At least you can do is reply back and apologize? For wasting time when I specifically told you it's for family and friends flying into town for a funeral burial. Will never use their business again. I highly suggest Mello. They replied and helped me out last minute. Shame on you! Learn how to run a business and treat customers esp previous customers who were supporting the business and fellow Krn but it's clear the new owner doesn't care about the customer or quality it's all about quantity. Maybe my 39 donuts which I offered to pay extra for time and packaging wasn't large enough but money is money. Especially during this time and economy. You should've at least replied back and even tried asking us to do pickup as the restaurant is down the road. Do better! Go to Mello which isn't too far and they bake fresh daily better pricing and reviews and consistency!
