    Curry Shrimp Buss up Shut
    Erickita S.

I got a seamoss drink that was really refreshing. Also got curry shrimp, that was so fire. Buss up Roti was fresh, and nicely made. I did also ordered a curry chicken and was so hungry I forgot to take a photo of that. The curry chicken was wildly salty unfortunately, but otherwise the flavors was there. 1 star off for salt factor. Pro-tip get that tamarin sauce it's so sweet and delicious and added a nice element to offset the salt factor. I would try more things from here...Service was prompt

Tried here for the first time, and nothing I bought tasted like anything Trini hands have ever cooked in my lifetime. That includes family back in Trinidad and friends and family in the US having a cook. It taste more like a Guyanese is the chef. I've also never in my life had doubles so off in color. And hard. And aloo with the chana as the default for the doubles? Even the Tamarind sauce is off. Where are the bits and pieces that come in it? I do not recommend for an authentic tasting Trini meal. The menu items might look authentic but the taste isn't there. It's really busy though so Flatbush must approve. Plus easy on the budget. I just wouldn't buy from here again. I'll stick to shops in Liberty.

Quick Trini meal since I'm working in this part of town. My chicken roti was absolutely delicious. It came with potatoes and chickpeas and a good portion of chicken. It had a splash of hot sauce and tamarind sauce. My orange soda was good as well. Service was pretty standard just hi and bye and out the door.

Caribbean spots can be so terrifying sometimes. I feel that each time i walk into a spot I've never tried before. Today, bake and things was that spot. I wanted something delicious, cheap and filling. I also didn't want meat. So i chose a double today. Added Channa (curried chickpeas) tamarind sauce and a little pepper sauce, and it's sooo good. I remember one of my best friends got me one of these last summer and it was so good. I decided to try and order it on my own today, and i did pretty good lol. It's normally pretty busy in there, but today, it was empty. Which worked for me because i didn't want to be rushed to order lol. The lady was sweet and nice and it came out to $2.50. Can't beat that. See pics below.

I was feeling for a beef roti for the longest time. I knew the only place that would get it right (from experience ordering from other restaurants) is Bake and Things on Flatbush Ave. The roti did not disappoint. I couldn't help but get some other stuff. Everything was delicious, and very reasonably-priced. The food was great, and the service was superb. They really made me feel like I was back home in Trinidad. The staff were all really friendly and helpful. Everything about this store is perfect. The place is always very clean, the staff is great, and the food is delicious. If you're in the mood for Trinidadian food, this is the place to go.

Bake & Things located on Flatbush Avenue, Brooklyn, New York has the BEST mac & cheese complimented with a covering of their delectable (entree) gravy!  When a side of mac & cheese is ordered, it is ALWAYS covered with curry gravy, stew gravy, OR any other gravy tickling my fancy that particular day.  The "Mac and Cheese" is perfectly made every single time without fail having a succulent cheesy fill by sight and taste.  Pricing continues to be reasonable with excellent customer service to boot. Unfortunately, Bake & Things' pholourie was not how pholourie usually tastes.  Their pholourie was similar to eating bread with no leavening agent, hard in texture, dark in color, heavy to the touch, and a thick consistency taste. A "4 star" overall rating was for Bake & Things' GREAT mac & cheese!

Disappointed on a Sunday I was craving macaroni pie and callaloo and decided to try this place since my usual spots are closed on Sundays. I took a moment to view the menu, and went with the small shrimp dinner ($12) + macaroni pie ($2.50 extra) and callaloo as the sides. Peardrax as the drink. The macaroni pie was dry, bland, and rubbery. It tasted like there was very little if any at all seasoning used. I don't know if this result was due to it being overcooked or left out all day, but it wasn't edible. After a few bites, I gave up on satisfying that craving. The shrimp was okay - it was seasoned significantly better than the rest of the meal. The callaloo didn't have the rich texture/consistency and flavor that the traditional dish is known for. I also asked for pepper sauce and didn't taste any at all. Not a kick, not even a zest. Overall after spending $16+ on a small meal, I wouldn't order this or likely from here again. I'm rating 2 stars simply because the line was organized and the ordering process was relatively quick.

Bland curry goat just nasty af
    Lara N.

Let me start by saying I came here on my birthday for some food. The only reason I stopped by was because fisherman's cove ran out of the dishes I wanted. There was a woman working the counter and she wasn't very nice at all. I spent a good $35 on food here. The chicken curry roti was just okay. This is what saves them. They had no doubles, aloo pie or pholourie available. I also ordered the curry goat dinner with cabbage and plantain and the oxtail dinner with the same sides. The baked macaroni was disgusting no flavor The oxtail was bland, no flavor, nasty, bitter after taste, no gravy, not tender and just overall the WORST oxtail dish I ever had. The curry goat was nasty as well. Two of my favorite Caribbean dishes were bland with no salt and a disgusting mess. I don't really like Trini food because I have been disappointed with the restaurants I go to. I will never stop by here again. The food is disgusting, the woman has an attitude serving and there are better options available out there.

This bake and things reside on church ave and I believe 35 st The women server's are very disrespectful to women and especially American women they will serve the men big spoonfuls for their orders then as soon as the women order they act like they are scared to serve you food you are paying for, I understand the cut back but at least put some food in my dish I should not be seeing the pans bottom after paying my money. They do this all the time to me. So I sent my mom in to order and because of her American accent look at this plate and we brought 2 I mean I'm not taking nothing from the food it's exceptionally good mine was ok but look at my moms plate wish they gave me the small amount since they had to skim she was so disappointed and I recommended them she said it's ok never again smh. Just let it be known American money should spend like your cultures money. Not nice Backnthings prejudice is ugly no matter What race it comes from.

It was sort of an odd time so the spacious restaurant wasn't very busy. We studied the menu for too long and after much deliberation, here's what we ordered, in order of spice level: - Oxtail ($35): Not spicy, super flavorful, "Trimmed and sliced chunks of oxtail seasoned freely with fresh spices and simmered to tender perfection." - Curry goat ($29): Mildly spicy, "Goat meat marinated and cooked in curry spices and herbs makes this an exotic dish." - Jerk chicken ($20): Apparently incredibly spicy so I steered clear of it, "A Jamaican delight. Spicy, delicious chicken baked with this unique combination of spices from the island." The dishes I could handle were excellent, with no drop of sauce left unmopped. On the sides front, the rice and beans, roti, steamed vegetables, and plantains were all tasty. The entree sizes were hearty. Our server seemed like a cool dude: easygoing with a sense of humor. It was kind of chilly in the restaurant, not sure if we were in a warmth dead zone or what. The bathroom was frog-themed which was a cute touch!

Very island spiced and cooked well - Goat was also really strong - Reasonable prices - service with personality What's to jeer - they were out of the jerk chicken unfortunately which I really wanted to try - place is pretty low key and not swimming with ambience

I discovered Kokomo because I knew I wanted our wedding celebration to be in Williamsburg -- a neighborhood that holds so many memories for me growing up in the Bronx and exploring the city as a kid. We flew in from Los Angeles and truly made it a full wedding week experience. I planned the wedding myself, so I had been communicating with Joel for months leading up to the event. We reserved the Champagne Room, which felt like its own beautiful oasis. As a Jamaican-American woman, it meant so much to know my disabled mother would feel culturally comfortable, welcomed, and safe in the space and with the food. From the moment we arrived, the staff was warm, attentive, and calming. Our server especially helped ease my nerves while we were finalizing seating and guest details, and after that, I genuinely did not have to worry about a thing. And the food? Absolutely incredible. Truly perfection. As a vegan, it meant so much to fully enjoy every part of my wedding meal without compromise. The rum punch was fantastic, our guests loved the open bar package, and the entire evening flowed so seamlessly. The aesthetic is pure island luxury -- elevated, warm, vibrant, and beautiful. The communication from the owners and management team was excellent throughout the entire process, and I even had the chance to finally meet Joel at the end of the night after months of planning together, which was such a lovely touch. I was also able to personally thank the chefs. We even accidentally left my bouquet behind, and the team kindly helped us retrieve it the next day. Kokomo NYC is officially a staple in our family now. I already know we will celebrate future milestones there and visit often whenever we are back in New York. It makes me proud to support a Black Caribbean-owned business that creates such meaningful experiences with so much care and excellence. I truly cannot imagine our wedding without Kokomo, and I'm so grateful they were part of our story. : @lensofher
