    Curry goat
    Vivian H.

One of my friends introduced me to come here because I was craving authentic Caribbean food and I wasn't disappointed. To be honest, I came here looking for oxtail but unfortunately I came too late and they ran out for the day so you better go early if you're adamant on oxtail. I settled for the curried goat and it was still super delicious. My friends got the jerk chicken and they really enjoyed it too. Will def be back again to try the oxtail!

I like the ambiance. The food looks exquisite! Although good, I've had better. But that does not mean you can't stop by! The food is ample for the price. So the value is good. I had the curry goat. It was tasty, but again, I've had better.

Consistent jerk chicken. The staff has to provide faster service and it doesn't hurt to smile a bit more.

We had the pleasure to be sitting close to the DJ who was spinning old school reggae that had us whining in our seats. LOL Now to be best part, the food and drinks. For the drinks our table ordered the rum punch, sangria and I had a refreshing ginger, apple mocktail. For starters, the table ordered the sweet chili wings, crab cakes and fried shrimp. We devoured the appetizers and was looking forward to our main course. Everyone ordered some variation of fish and I ordered the duck. Everything was delicious and we were all satisfied with our food and drinks. We ordered everything on mini tablets. The staff were sweet and brought out the birthday lights and dessert for my friend while we sang happy birthday. This was a cool spot and black owned and I would definitely return to check out some other menu items.

The décor, ambiance, and overall aesthetic are stunning and definitely make a great first impression. Unfortunately, the experience didn't live up to the atmosphere. The operation felt overly strict and somewhat pretentious. While waiting for a seat at the bar, we noticed that guests aren't allowed to stand nearby if no seats are available. At one point, a gentleman was simply talking to a friend while waiting, and staff communicated through their earpieces to address it. It felt excessive and created an uncomfortable environment. As for the food, it was just okay. Nothing was bad, but nothing stood out either. Given the reputation, prices, and presentation, I expected much more. Overall, the food was average and didn't justify the hype. The space is gorgeous, but the overall experience felt more focused on controlling the room than making guests feel welcome. Beautiful restaurant, but not a place I'll be returning to.

There's something about the atmosphere that makes it feel like I'm dining in Manhattan or even out of town--it's a nice escape from the usual neighborhood spots. The service is another standout. The staff is warm, attentive, and truly makes you feel welcome every time you walk in. That level of hospitality is a big part of why I keep coming back. Food-wise, the oxtail pasta is a must--rich, flavorful, and always hits. And you really can't go wrong with the jerk dishes, which are always a favorite and consistently done well. That said, I do want to mention the automatic 20% gratuity. I completely understand that times have changed with inflation, and I respect the industry--I've worked in restaurants myself. But traditionally, gratuity started around 15%, and it wasn't typically added at the bar. A fixed 20% on every bill feels a bit steep. Because of that, what used to be a regular go-to spot is starting to feel more like a place I'd reserve for special occasions. Still, the quality of the food and service remain top-notch.

The establishment is quite lovely. Great ambiance with sultry green with gold and black accents. They are not playing when it comes to the prices as they have the $$$ for a reason. It is even pricier than comparable restaurants in Manhattan or in Downtown Brooklyn. The Curry goat came with white rice and steamed veggies. The Oxtail came with rice and peas and steamed veggies. Both servings were very generous and flavorful. The Curry goat was a little too overcooked in some parts but still good. The rice and peas had a great consistency to compliment the Oxtail and gravy. The plates were extra large. Our server, O'Neil, suggested the Mango Tango as a non-alcoholic option. I loved the presentation and the flavor. The lemonade also tasted great. Even the side of sweet plantains and Jerk chicken felt like they could be its own meal. We had to take some home. Kudos to the Drive Through option and very clean restrooms. Maybe we were fortunate to visit when things were not hectic but sometimes that is the right time to just enjoy the full experience without too much crowd and distractions. One comment regarding the To-go/Take-out option is that I noticed they only give you 1 plantain as a side in the Oxtail we ordered at the Drive Through. In my opinion, a side of plantain means at least 4 plantain pieces, but I will take three. So when we had to ask if just one is customary and they said yes, I was taken aback, but they said they could give us 1 more piece. I know things are expensive but the 1 plantain policy in to-go orders needs to change.

I ordered the $16 lunch special to go, which included a green plantain sandwich filled with griot, a small salad, and passion fruit lemonade. The food was absolutely perfect. The griot was expertly prepared: tender and well seasoned with a citrusy flavor that makes authentic Haitian fried pork so delicious; less is really more for this dish. The meat tasted fresh, flavorful, and carefully cooked; it wasn't greasy, dry, or overly salty. Instead of traditional bread, the sandwich was made with fried green plantains. The small salad was fresh. . The passion fruit lemonade was tropical and really refreshing. For $16 the quality, portion and overall value is not bad at all. (They also have $5 happy hour specials). I waited approximately 15 minutes for my takeout order, but it was worth it. The food tasted freshly prepared rather than rushed or sitting around and microwaved. A special thank you to Paolane, the hostess. She was sweet, professional, patient, and genuinely helpful. Since this was my first visit, she took the time to help me understand the menu and choose my order. Her excellent customer service made a wonderful first impression. Although I ordered takeout, I noticed that the restaurant was very clean, comfortable, and inviting. The climate control was perfect which may seem like a small detail but it made the wait much more pleasant. The décor was tasteful and polished. I also noticed that dine in meals are presented on adorable wooden style plates and bowls which adds something special to the dining experience. I also ordered a Haitian hot chocolate for my grandson. He is a very picky eater, so I'll update this review once it passes his official taste test. BunNan delivered authentic flavor, thoughtful presentation, excellent service, and impressive value. I wish they had a long Island location but I will definitely return!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND them a try.
