I've been coming to this restaurant for over 20 years. I remember coming here even as a vegetarian to get the rice and peas with steam veggies. They are absolutely delicious. Fast forward twenty some year, and it's still just as good as it was back then. This time I ordered the oxtail as I know. Eat meat from time to time. The plate was so heavy. I could barely open it without spilling. The flavor was good and of course the sides were amazing. Only issue was there wasn't any gravy on the rice at all. I think a lot of people get oxtail gravy on their food regardless, if they purchase oxtail or not. My suggestion? Not as good as Exquisite Express on Church Avenue. The food was mediocre. Oxtail was tough. The service was reliably rude in spite of the food being priced well above fast food prices. Two dinner items with no drinks came to $50.00. Apparently, if you don't speak with a Carribean accent, the servers can't really understand you. And asking for anything extra like jerk sauceor hot sauce was an inconvenience to them. Speaking of sauce, I expect better than store-bought jerk sauce from the Exquisite brand. Walked into this restaurant by accident my wife wanted some West Indian food to "go". Wifey wanted something like curry or jerk chicken or a Roti maybe baked with codfish or curry chicken but to my surprise, they didn't serve that. This cuisine was of Haitian flavor, they did have chicken steamed, turkey in a brown gravy goat, a dinner special of steamed chicken rice and beans with a side salad and fried plantains, with a side order of goat. Delicious food! One of my go to spots in the area, and there are quite a few good restaurants to choose from. Portions are substantial, quality consistent, and the flavor is not lacking. I've yet to work my way through the entire menu as some of the items are so delicious I have to get them again. Even the juices are full of flavor. They make them onsite. The lemonade has a strong ginger flavor which I enjoy (watered down). Whenever I stop by there is a bit of a line that moves pretty quick. The only minor struggle is that there seems to be rather loud ambient noise so when I call out my order over the tall window I have to repeat a few times for the other person to hear me. Not a big deal but something to keep in mind for the soft spoken short peeps. There's some tables and seats to eat there. When the weather is nice outside they have an outside patio area, it's a nice spot to catch the sunset. read more

Me and my boyfriend ate here earlier this week. I had the curry chicken with cabbage and rice and beans. I thought it was pretty good, not the best, but pretty good. My boyfriend had jerk chicken with the same sides. His chicken was dry despite the fact that sauce was added to it from another dish. I've been going to this place for a few years and after yesterday which will be the last time I go there, I felt compelled to write a review. I ordered a medium sized jerk chicken (only chicken) for $10!!! That's a $2 hike from the $8!!! I could get an entire meal for alot less at their nearby competitors. All in all, the chicken is really fried not jerk unless you ask for jerk sauce which I always get on the side. It isn't falling off the bone like most jerk chicken and has no flavor. It's very tough/dry. Customer service has never been great and no matter how often you go there, don't expect to be treated like a regular. No greeting and no "thank you" . For a restaurant with so many competitors nearby, they really need to step their game up because tge lines aren't as long as they use to be. read more

I would have given this place 5 stars prior to my last experience. This was always my go to spot for jerk chicken and the best Mac and cheese ever. When I was working in Brooklyn and my primary residence was in Manhattan I was reliant on the MTA. I would take a bus to get there which cost me about 40 minutes of additional travel time. When I came to primarily reside in Queens, I would drive to Brooklyn for no other reason but to get this chicken and mac and cheese. However, my last experience might well be the last time I patronize this restaurant. The chicken was bone dry. The texture alone was at best off putting. What made it inedible was the toxic level of hot pepper. When I got home and opened the bag, everyone's eyes began to tear. It was like pepper spray. Truly harmful and unforgivable. I have come to Esquisite several times in the past and the food has been pretty good. To my dismay, the last order of beef was awful. The plate consisted of mostly very large bones, fat and a "bare" amount of meat. A side order of mac and cheese was anything but. The top was a very bland, thin layer of "tasteless" cheese (I think American cheese - cheeder cheese is usually used in most recipes which provides flavor). The bottom was lacking "any" cheese and looked like bare mac that was taken right from the pot without any addition of cheese, milk, flovoring, etc. It wasn't even slightly that yellow/orange color you see mac and cheese.....just the color pasta is after you've just boiled it! I would add, this experience was highly unusual for this restaurant in my experience. The food purchased in the past has been good. They need to work on the beef, preferably some with meat on the bones (or how about boneless) and the mac and cheese. I will.try them again but will definitely try something different as I know they can do better. read more

I love their porridge, its creamy, sweet, and very traditional. I have also had bakes and a few other items. The food tastes like delicious, authentic Caribbean cuisine, along with a bit of Caribbean attitude. They are generally not very friendly although on my last visit the lady was very polite with a hint of a smile. This particular location took their SWEEEEEEEET TIME. Just ridiculous. I spent almost 25 minutes in here just trying to order.
