My husband and I stopped in for lunch on a Saturday since we were in Sequim. At first I was pleased with the possibility. Friendly waitress, clean bathrooms, cheery Mexican kitsch decor. But after waiting over 30 minutes for our food to be served, we ended up getting up and walking out. And there were only a handful of other customers in there, so it' snot liked they got slammed. At one point, the waitress came over and apologized, saying the folks in the kitchen were busy "making up big trays." (Not sure for whom because there were no large parties in the restaurant that I could see.) We waited another 10 minutes after that before leaving. Our Go-To Mexican Restaurant in Sequim. Family favorite. Food is always good. Service sometimes takes a while. Only say this because another place we go to in PA is a little faster on water refills, salsa & chips refills. That being said, we have eaten here for the three years we've lived here, both locations. Have to take away ONE STAR for acoustics. The side room with garage door is Very Loud. Something needs to be done to dampen the sound. Last time we ate there, a large party made the sound deafening. Husband & I had to eat in silence because we literally could not hear each other converse. Baja Cantina has become a favorite place for me. I love what Baja does with shrimp. Fresh and tasty. I especially enjoy the shrimp tacos - on special during happy hour in the bar. I've ordered the shrimp salad in the dining room a couple of times and was very impressed with the freshness and quantity of the shrimp in my salad - all the way to the bottom of the bowl. The margaritas are special as well. Another customer suggested I try the Perfect Margarita, and it is a bit pricey, but wow - is it ever delicious! read more

Tonight a large group of us, almost 70, went to Baja Cantina in Sequim and had a wonderful experience. Our waiter, Andres, took the drink orders and served them. Then he came around and took the dinner orders. While the kitchen was preparing all these orders, plus the other customers in the main dining room, Andres and his mom kept our chip bowls full, the water pitchers full and anything else we needed till the food started coming out. Then he served all the meals piping hot to each individual. The food was excellent and our waiter had a smile on his face the entire time. Usually when you get a large party the restaurant tacks on a 18% tip to each bill. They did NOT! We tipped as we wanted. I was a Banquet Manager at a restaurant for many years, so believe me when I say Andres did a fantastic job taking all the orders, getting them to the right people and then individual bills for this amount of people, ordering off the menu, is not a thing many waiters can do with just the help of one other. The kitchen didn't get anything sent back for being wrong, so I want to thank the kitchen staff also. So, if you are ever in our little town of Sequim, Wa. and want some good Mexican food, try Baja Cantina on Washington and 5th. Ave. in downtown Sequim. Great for large parties too. Just remember if you're from So. Calif. don't expect to get a California taco anywhere out of the state of California. Be adventurous and order anything else and you will love it. The food is delicious and you get big servings. A group of us go to lunch on Sundays and since we're all seniors we can't eat as much food as they serve. We basically all share, and ask for extra plates and that we will split so the kitchen doesn't have to do that. But they told us they can't do that (after the food arrived, however, they did give us plates that time). Another time we asked for more chips before the meals arrived and were told that we'd had our free ones and would have to pay for more. OK, maybe I can see that, but there were 12 people there. Tried this place as a shot in the Dark. We are brand new to the area and heard about it. The service was ok, a little slow is bringing the drinks. The portions were large and my burrito was very good. My wife had a large plate of food, but her opinion was her's was a bit bland. The prices are the same as places in the $10-20 dollar range. I really did see our experience any thing to set it apart. I did have 1 server who worked the next table help us out very quickly and i was impressed by her. Restaurant was less than 50% full. Hostess was not the best at seating people. Tried to seat a family of 6 at a 4 person table. Started to seat a different family of 8 and move a table in front of the door to the bar. Two of the three waitresses were slow and not helpful, brought the wrong drink three times, Dr Pepper instead of root beer and a wrong mixed drink. The service was attentive but not hovering. It was nice to go out for a meal again and have it be tasty and a good experience. We shared a lunch burrito and walked away more than satisfied. Easily the best Mexican food in the area (including Port Angeles). The service is top notch and very attentive. I have been a number of times and always experienced fast and professional service. I had the fajitas and it was amazing. The queso dip was also something worth splurging on. Great salsa and never had to look around for a refill. Cost is a little high compared to the competition but with the level of service I think it's completely justified. I'm from Texas and this is the closest to texmex I've had in years. We have eaten at Baja Cantina a number of times and it is always delicious. We went again today for lunch and were not disappointed. The manager is so friendly and answers every question. The servers are all smiles and sweet dispositions. One offered us a place to lay down after we said we were so stuffed we needed a nap! LOL I had a combination plate that was out of this world. The shredded beef anything is super yummy. My compadre had the pork Carne Asada burrito. It was a religious experience for him! He said it was the best pork he's ever had. There are several good Mexican restaurants in Sequim, but this one is the absolute best for food, drinks, and service! read more

Excellent friendly service. I ordered a veggie burrito with rice and beans. It was quite good, but not exceptional. My friend and I both loved the salsa that came with the warm corn chips which were served shortly after sitting down. My friend's fish taco was very tasty. It was served on flour tortilla instead of corn, which made it doughy and therefore a little disappointing to her. Overall a positive experience, and we very much appreciated that they were OPEN at 9pm on a Monday night. Not an easy thing to find in Sequim! read more

Found it overpriced for the small amount of food served. My boyfriend got the world's daintiest street tacos (2), I didn't know they even made tortillas that small! On top of that, we never got water served, I guess you have to ask.. No one ever offered more chips & salsa, no one ever came back to check & see if we needed anything (SOUR CREAM!), and we waited for our waitress to come back after paying so that we could request a to-go box for our daughter's quesadilla.. Well she never came back. I would not recommend this restaurant to others & we will not be returning. read more

A good place to eat for people that simply want Mexican food but don't really care about quality. I was served old guacamole that was clearly oxidized. They decided it was a good idea to put cheese all over my lunch that I did not ask for and was not indicated on the menu so it is clearly Americanized. I asked for a side plate of jalapenos and they brought me some that obviously came from a can. None of the food here is fresh or appealing whatsoever. read more

The best carne asada in town, in my opinion. The refried beans seem to be from scratch, with pieces of whole beans still evident (not a smooth texture) and are great! Prices are high so we don't go as often as when it was in its old location. Service can range from very good to almost non-existent as the last time we went and ate in the bar area. The new bartender didn't come over to us for probably 5 minutes even though there were only 3 other patrons there and never did check on us, just bringing the bill when she was ready. read more

In town for the Lavender Festival, my friend and I stopped here for lunch. My chimichanga with beans and rice was uninspired, with no sauce, sour cream or guacamole. Ok I deleted Yelp for personal reasons but im back because I just had THE WORST service today. The experience started with warm stale chips and a very watery flavorless salsa with one hair in it. I over looked it and we ordered pico de gallo and queso with more chips and to my surprise there were 2 more hairs in the chips and pico and no queso came. We told the waitress what we found; she apologized and took the food away. We order our meals and I order the carne asada nachos with chicken which is printed on the menu (it comes with guac,beans sour cream, etc.) I dont think the older waitress knew that they sold the nachos because she went away and came back and asked if I meant the carne asada fries. I told her no and that I wanted the nachos. 45 mins go by and we still have no queso. We ask whats the hold up and the waitress must've forgot because she asked us how long ago did we order it. She says shes going to go get it and then our food comes out... My nachos consisted of the DRYEST chicken, chips and cheese. I tracked down another waitress to return my food and I kind of expected the meals to just be comped because of just the horrible service we had but no they just didnt charge us for the pico and the queso that never came. This was the worst restaurant ive ever been to and I will never return. read more

My husband and I loved this place. I ordered shrimp fajita salad and my husband got Dos Comboio something that involved seasoned pork. They were both most very delicious. The service was great. We sat in the bar and there were 3 large TVs which made my husband happy and it wasn't too loud which I liked. It was Sequim, in January at 3pm Sunday afternoon and not a lot was open. I was searching on Yelp and wasn't too excited as this place has only 3 stars. But, I guess you can't always count on reviews, I thought it was wonderful. Oh, and the bathrooms were spotless. This is (by far) THE BEST place for Mexican food on this Peninsula! 1st the server is very nice. The complimentary chips are crisp & hot & the salsa & bean dips are freshly made in house (you can totally tell) & DELICIOUS. Then your food comes fast & hot & SO good! The lettuce, tomatoes, & lime slices are so fresh. The meats are cooked, shredded (remember that?) & seasoned to perfection! The prices are great (quite reasonable). Also, most drinks have free refills. There is ample space for big parties, as well. No place on this peninsula can compare! And, my review is totally unsolicited.
