The Black Bear Diner Sequim is exactly what you want it to be- fast friendly service, delicious breakfast food, reasonably priced, and a relaxed environment. There are so many breakfast options on the menu, it would be hard to not find something to try. We ordered the Cinnamon Roll French toast (very sweet and loads of cinnamon, I enjoyed it) and the biscuits and gravy(did not like the biscuits as they were more like a bread roll) with sausage Patties ( very good). Having breakfast here last weekend with my family of 4 might possibly be the best experience I've had a Black Bear Diner EVER, and I've been to too many of them to count. It's also the most beautifully landscaped with lovely water features to look at if you're seated on the patio or by the window. I wish I could remember the waitress' name, sweet older lady, probably in her 50s--but she was SO nice and I really appreciated how accommodating she was about substitutions. She really went above and beyond. My 6 year old was jonesing for diced ham and scrambled eggs, which wasn't on the kids menu, but the waitress made it happen. Then when my daughter was wishing she had a biscuit like the one that my husband was too hungry to share, the kind waitress brought us an extra one on the house. My wife and I hadn't been up to Sequim from Bremerton, WA for a few years, but headed up there to the local garden show and a chance to hear gardener extraordinaire Ciscoe Morris speak. Had a great time and we stopped here for dinner on a Sunday around 4:30 before heading back home. This great looking restaurant didn't exist last time we were in Sequim. It's right next door to the attractive Holiday Inn Express. Because I had a bit of a drive ahead of me, we ordered no beer or wine, just stuck with ice cold water. My wife ordered the Chicken Caesar Melt ($15.39), marinated grilled chicken breast with Caesar dressing, lettuce, tomato, and Swiss & jack cheeses on sourdough bread grilled with a Parmesan crust. Came with a choice of sides and she had the onion rings. I had Mikey's Homemade Chicken Pot Pie ($17.99), which also came with choice of sides. I had the green beans and bacon, which was very flavorful, but the beans were cooked to death...soft and mushy 50's style; probably wouldn't order them again. Except for the beans, we both thought our food choices were excellent. My wife asked for tartar sauce for her rings and it definitely was not our preferred style...too sweet. Just give us dill relish, mayo and a little onion...no sugar or other sweetener please. Lots of young people working here...all very polite, well-spoken and cordial. Our server did a great job! We stopped here for dinner after a long drive and the food was exactly what we anticipated. That said, this location is pretty cute as they really embrace the theme even more so than other locations. While service was excellent food was terrible. I asked for hamburger "pink" and got a "hockey puck ". Fries were extremely salty. I ended up not eating the meal. In fairness the server did offer to ask the cook if they would redo but I opted not to as I had been waiting for a while. I have been going to Black Bear Diner since it opened. Always loved their "The GRIZZ!" but I cannot eat that much anymore. Their pancakes are the best and my current favorite is the "Reuben" which they always have. Other local restaurants only serve it on Saint Partick's day and even then, BBD is the best. We have tried other Black Bear Diners, but they are not as good as Sequim's BBD! read more

Hello this is Abby C. Every time I see a Black bear. I always feel warm and Happy. I have been to many. I know what to expect. When It was 4 years ago. I was meeting my husband for the first time. 3 months later he asked me to sit in the same booth at Black Bear like on our first date, Then he proposed to me. I was soooo surprised! I said yes! 10 months later, We got married in a hot air balloon. Black bear is a peaceful place . Every Restaurant is a little unique and yet the menu is the same. I love love the bear decorations I love bears I love how the waitresses are devoted to taking care of you. Always over and above for serving you. If you are not happy they wil exchange it , recook to your speciations or give you bear credits! For our anniversary we were giving a gift from the waitresses!! We were sooooo surprised! The hashbrowns though - yesss for the ribbons! The crunchy potato ribbons!!! Their homemade biscuit is also key for a wonderful meal. I honestly enjoyed this meal so much.. and I love this restaurant and want to go back to a Black Bear Diner when I go back home to California. haha. The food came out much slower than breakfast foods normally take to cook though. As a party of 5, we were wondering what was up. Going to the kinda places., You know the food is going to be a solid 5/10. And honestly after camping or something that is exactly what you want. This location is just poor though. The server we had was fine but forgetful for a few things. Not a super big deal, but she did drop a whole hot pot of coffee that fell on the floor and got all over my boyfriend's legs. The server had no sense of urgency, yes it wasn't a third degree burn but it hurt and he still can feel it 20 min later. She did return with a napkin with some ice and offered a free desert. We tried to make the most of the situation, he was clearly upset and even the other tables were shocked on how it seemed the server just didn't care. When we did get to pay the host girl. (She was younger and name started with an S) tried adding the desert and when I asked why the price went up she began auditing the tab as though I didn't know. I corrected her and she still pushed back. In the end we left and will not return to this location. One or two off things are one thing, but even when that place is busy we have had great times. This one experience truly made so we won't return and will tell our friends and family to skip it all together. Sucks. read more

Been to many Black Bears and this was the most disappointing. Ordered the chicken fried steak, usually amazing. This time, not so much. It was about the size of a McDonalds burger patty. We eat often at Black Bear and always find their food and service excellent. Thanksgiving dinners were awesome. We ordered the turkey dinner and the prime rib dinner to go. Everything was excellent. Prepared exactly as we had requested. The portions were very ample and we had enough left over for a meal the next day. The absolute worst breakfast I have ever had. Ordered the meat lovers omelette and hash-browns. I asked for American cheese on the omelette and when they brought it out it had small tiny squares of cold cheese and the omelette itself was covered in grease. The hash-browns were no better. Came here with my family after a nice 8 mile hike in the Olympic National Park and boy were we hungry!! Staff was friendly and they served us lots of coffee and ice tea. It did take a while for the food though. Everyone was in the mood for breakfast and I was the only one who ordered lunch. When our meals arrived I must admit the breakfast choices Lion delicious ! My friends told me I had to go to this place to get their pancakes. I should've listened to their advice because what we got was really disappointing. Atmosphere: For sure really cute. It's got black bear stuff all over and it's all super cute. There's a little merch shop in the front that you can buy cute things. The menu is a newspaper and it's very expansive. Service: Fast and friendly. Food: Pretty disappointing here. Partner got the Big Burger (named after the owner) so he was excited for it. Unfortunately, even though he asked for it to be cooked Medium Rare, it came out pretty much well done. Why even ask for how you want it to be cooked if the burgers all just get cooked well done?? Also, lack of flavor and nothing special. I got the California Bacon Eggs Benny (subbed the bacon for Ham). It was smothered (see pic) in Hollandaise sauce. Listen, usually I love Hollandaise and I feel like most people don't give you enough typically....but this was overkill. The whole thing was covered and I had to dig through the sauce to find my tomato, avocado, ham, etc. I didn't even think it came on an English muffin at first because I couldn't find it. When I finally did, it was all soggy in the sauce. The flavors was all just Hollandaise sauce - I tasted nothing else. Literally everything was swimming in it. My dinner was very tasty, however the employee stocking the pastry cabinet was violating health codes. He was a young gentleman transferring bear claws and pies to the case without wearing gloves. Always stop at Black Bear when I travel from Kitsap County. Last night I had the worst meal ever despite their burgers always being on the dry side. Ordered their Original Scrambowl. It was supposed to consisted of potatoes, ham, bacon, sausage, pickled jalapeño, scrambled eggs and cheese smothered with gravy. To be served with bIscuit. What I got was was 95% hard rock potatoes and jalapeño with no meat, one scrambled egg (if that) and spoonful gravy. Served with English muffin. Tried to get servers attention to return my food and order something else. Was no where to be found. Saw her as I went to bathroom and asked for to go box. Box was waiting when I got back to table and paid the check stupidly leaving top. Was very annoyed with someone cleaning/sweeping floors at my table. Rude. Very. Store could use some deep cleaning service but ambiance was as it is for their stores. Not sure if I'd stop there again on my next trip to Sequim. May be time to be adventurous. read more

Tick tock, tick tock went the clock ! We ordered our food, drinks came quickly, but it was an exceptionally long wait. Our friends ordered the tri tip and it was good, but I ordered the Chicken Avacado Club with fries and my husband the Patty Melt. When it was served to us the fries were cold the chicken was really dry and cool- you could tell it sat under a light for a long time. The unfortunate part is we never heard an apology for the wait and no one ever asked how the food was.
