Salt! Lots and lots of salt. Way too much salt. Which is strange, as there were salt shakers on the table. Maybe the chef hasn't been told we have been provided with salt shakers? And most of us know how to use them. Our entire table is Googling "how to get sodium out of your system quickly ", since we are all suffering in our own way. I would loved to have enjoyed the flavor of my $23.00 hamburger, but couldn't tell what it tasted like because of the overdose of salt. I was expecting more than what I experience. First of all , I didn't knew that I had to make reservations to dine in (which was not on their website). I came from 3 hours away and by the time I got there they told me I have to wait 30 minutes because I didn't call to reserve a table. After 30 minutes of waiting the lady told me I had to wait another 30 minutes because there was no space, after waiting for almost 1 hour I approached the person in charge pointing that there was several empty booths, which she replied by saying that they were reserved . I have to mention that no one sat in those booths for a couple hours.. I pretty much wait for an hour and a half. Don't get me started on the food, I order steak, mash, broccoli and that meal was the smallest meal I had for the amount of $60. Can you believe it for the small steak. We had been wanting to stop into this cute little cafe for a while and the timing was never right-'to think of all times o could have had the BEST fish and chips ever! I kick myself. The fish is dipped into a tempura batter that is light and crispy in a delicate way that does not over power the fish. The waffle cut fries and seasoning was so good! Burger was juicy and fries were crispy. Everyone in our party was satisfied. Service was quick and friendly for a large party of 7. Great place to hold meetings or for family gatherings or outings if you are looking to eat out in the town or on the road if you are heading to Forks or Lake Crescent. Ambiance is small town cozy antique hunting vibes. There are fun things to peek at throughout the restaurant on the walls and along the hallways. I've heard the prime rib is outstanding. The interior is fun, with lots of nods to a former logging mill and the logging culture of the area. The food is homestyle cooking with menu items like biscuits and gravy. There was some confusion over what one of us ordered, as two menu items are slightly similar - the chicken fried steak and the chicken fried cubed steak sandwich. We had order one but got the other. We loved this place, we have tried really hard to support them. They just seem to keep making things worse. They can't seem to get out of their own way. The owner Savannah needs to actually start working there and perhaps with some outside consulting help, new menu, cut prices significantly. This place should be booked whenever there open, unfortunately they have alienated most of there customer base. Prime Rib is there Friday and Saturday special. A little over priced but convenient. So I was going to meet a buddy of mine down there for dinner. We both wanted Prime Rib. Apparently he got there before I did and calls me and says let's meet at Traylor's half way to PA didn't really want to drive that far but okay. So here is where the rubber hits the road. So apparently Old Mill had a message on there specials board that they were already sold out of Prime Rib, really? at 4:30PM? On Friday? Turns out they sold all the Prime Rib to a party, well so much for loyalty to their clients, in both directions they apparently don't care about their regular customers. Now Traylors has a very generous 12oz Prime Rib or $30.99 this includes salad, loaded potatoes, vegetables. Old Mill you get less and it's $6.00 more. Traylors would never ganyk there customers for some party. I like the people at Old Mill but pricing for what you get is ridiculous. There Seafood Linguine which is noodles crème and some seafood is ridiculously priced. Unfortunately, it feels like they will either fold or sell to someone else. They truly need to drop prices by 25% to 40% provide more food, expand their menu and start having more consistent service and quality. Personally I know how hard it is to run a restaurant but for their pricing you would expect more than Denny's level cooking. Sometimes they do a better than basic, but no consistency. I'm sorry, we are done with Old Mill they have slid downhill and you have no idea what you will get. Traylor's offer A family environment. Black Bear kinda Denny's like but better menu, and unfortunately better and more consistent service. Mariner and Elk not exotic menus all have all over better service. Not the same great little place we were used to! We took an out of town guest here for a festive birthday dinner, based on our past stellar dining experiences at this unique restaurant. We were sadly disappointed. The halibut special was mediocre, at best, being overcooked, very small serving, and with tired, limp vegetables. My seafood platter came with very soggy tempura cod and jumbo shrimp (usually my favorite!) There was no lemon, overcooked waffle fries and seemingly no effort on the cook's part for appetizing presentation. The previous lovely pre-dinner delicious bread basket was missing. The wine was a very skimpy $11.00 per glass. Sadly, we will not be using this restaurant as our go-to festive celebration spot in the future. read more

We have been to the Old Mill Cafe many times over the years, which was always good, but wanted to post a review after the last couple of visits, as it was great! We typically go there for breakfast and have had a variety of their dishes - the cakes are big, light and fluffy, and the link sausage was cooked perfectly. My Wife had the benedict and it looked delicious. This is a fun place to go, with great staff and good food, surrounded by old logging memorabilia and pictures showing how the area grew up. read more

Very homey, Cute kitschy stop known for great breakfasts! We stopped in to try lunch. They have indoor and outdoor seating and plenty of bric a brac and historical photos ect to keep you busy while you wait. It gets busy here even though it appears off the beaten path, located between Sequim and Port Angeles. A good variety of foods are offered. Lunch specials and creative cocktails were a surprise to read on the menu here. Allow time for lunch, it is not fast however, every thing we had was very tasty, homemade and it is a relaxing place for a meal. I look forward to try their berry margarita that I read about someday. I found the Old Mill Cafe! I found Carlsborg for that matter. Perched next to a four-room motel and across the street from a Fishermen's Supply store kinda between Sequim and Dungeness is the newly redone and reopened Old Mill Cafe. The front is inviting with outdoor seating under purple flour baskets and the inside manages to be fresh and clean while tipping its hat to the past with a dramatic mural and some horns from elk or deer (hey, I'm new here!) The staff immediately invite you in with warmth and a smile, like the aunt you have that's still nice...not the cranky one. I know what you're thinking. Diner! Guy Fiery eating something deep fried at a counter, etc. Nope! The Old Mill has excellent food that's creative and perhaps even upscale without the snooty part. There is a bona-fide chef, by any standards that you can put up against Gary Danko or Saison in San Francisco...one who would leave Michael Chiarello and Bobby Flay holding each other to reassure themselves everything is going to be okay after tasting the quality of the ingredients and creativity of his food. I asked my server, Heather, to drive for me and she ordered my entree and brought me free soup. Okay, admittedly everyone gets free soup or salad. The soup was a tomato bisque with smoked gouda. Suspended in fresh tomato puree and herbs were chunks of fresh fire-roasted tomatoes and roasted red peppers. So I didn't get an attitude, it came with a packet of Saltines. The entree was fresh seafood fettuccine absolutely drowning in the best of Northwest seafood. Am I talking about leftover salmon from the morning salmon Benedict offering? No! In the bowl with a light sauce I'm pretty sure had white wine, garlic, clam juice and a dash of cream were fresh clams still in their shells, bay shrimp as well as prawns. The taste was fresh and great! But wait! As I dug down, I found a generous amount of lump Dungeness Crab meat! I have no doubt their desserts are great, but I just couldn't do it after eating all that fresh seafood. So, visitors from culinary spots that are perhaps better known, put the attitude aside and enjoy a great meal with friendly people. And eat your Saltines! read more

The best breakfast I have ever had. I have no idea how they took a basic, standard breakfast and made it taste as incredible as they did, but I'm SO sad I visited here while on vacation and it isn't in my hometown so I can go back any time I want. The pancakes had such a robust and rich flavor with a syrup that complemented rather than overwhelmed them. The ham was fantastic, and a large serving. Four stars for vegan black bean burger They make it in-house but they originally told us they did not have it. When we told him we came all the way from Kirkland Washington they found a burger for us. It did have mayo and they told me it was vegan mayo. The vegan cheese they supposedly had turned out they did not have it. :( The vegetarian sandwich was a big disappointment - The bread was completely dry. We had agreed they would put vegan mayo. Obviously mustard but nothing. It was supposed to be toasted sourdough bread I'm not really sure that's what it was. There was only a tiny bit of avocado. I would recommend they put cucumbers in there the small sweet peppers just kept falling out. It was really a big disappointment. It's so easy to make a great vegetarian or vegan sandwich. They need to go back to the kitchen in this one. How about making a vegan chickpea salad and putting that into the sandwich? He would have protein and it would be fantastic. Take a look at what they do at El avocado in La Jolla. Fantastic chickpea Saad sandwich that even non plant eaters like. My husband was going to order the cinnamon apple scone that was to be served warm and was the only dessert they made and house besides the marionberry pie. Don't get your hopes up after we ordered it we were told they did not have it. They have some nice seating outside. Service was hit or miss. Really liked the gal with the sparkly mask. We were seated by our very friendly waitress, Meghan. The service throughout our meal was outstanding, professional and courteous. The menu was explained and questions answered. We were there for the Sunday brunch. The food was delivered fast as was outstanding. The portions were nice. The biscuits and gravy was great. This establishment has many dishes to include burgers and more for lunch. They also have an outstanding dinner menu that includes everything from steak, Prime rib and even pasta. The food is freshly prepared. Some might say that the price is a bit pricey. I don't see it that way at all for the quality a d quality that you get. I would recommend this restaurant. read more

Been here a few times. Always great food and portions. Today was no exception. Might be the best Rueben on the peninsula. Clam chowder was awesome. For a small town diner, this place is a pretty neat find. I initially discovered this place on yelp after looking for a cute diner on the way back from hurricane ridge. This place is located near the side of a small street and is pioneer themed. Upon first glance, I appreciated the aesthetics of the exterior and interior of the restaurant. While initially entering the restaurant, the service staff immediately greeted me and was incredibly kind. She seated us at the booth near the window. She started off by giving us our silverware, menus, and drinks. I decided to try their "most popular" reuben sandwich and my friend went with the bbq elk burger. Their customer service was great as the practice proper social distancing and wore masks. Reuben 7/10: The sandwich was pilled with sauerkraut and the meat was a too salty for me. BBQ Elk Burger 5/10: The portions were relatively sizeable but the meat was grossly overcooked. Would not recommend. Ultimately, this place is a cute and neat place to check out with awesome customer service, however, it is a little pricy for a small town diner and I would opt to try different menu items if returning. read more

Lots has changed since I wrote my review in 2014 -- the food is still great and the logging motif is exactly the same, but the food might be even better than before. We've had great fish and chips (came back for the salmon & chips but were told it was too expensive to serve now.) The burgers are good with lots of fresh veggies. I'm told the chowder often arrives warm instead of hot. They could use some more servers, but the current ones are very friendly. read more
