We found this little restaurant while visiting Sequim and now we make it an almost weekly visit driving from Port Angeles just to get a bowl of their AMAZING clam chowder and fish tacos. I can't remember ever having clam chowder as good and the fish tacos are absolutely loaded with fish. On the way to Victoria via the Black Ball Ferry, we opted for a quick stop at Salty Girls in Sequim for lunch. This was on a Friday and the place was empty when we got there at 11:30. Ordering is usually done via QR code, but they are also happy to orders at the register. One thing to note: on our visit, the restaurant left the front door open and didn't turn on heating so we found it rather cold inside. Clam Chowder in Sourdough Bread Bowl ($14) - Salty Girls has one of the best preparations for chowder bread bowls I've encountered. They expertly hollow out the center as much as absolutely possible, leaving maybe only half an inch of bread on the sides (I think they use the trimmings to make their homemade croutons). This allows them to ladle in the maximal amount of clam chowder, much more than most I've had in the past. While I believe the bread is some commercial one, it has a distinct, but light, sourdough taste and doesn't have the overwhelming taste of stabilizers and preservatives that some bread bowls run into. It's toasted very nicely, giving a fantastic crust, while the interior bread remains light rather than dense, yet holds up to the chowder well. The chowder itself is pretty good. It's thickened, but still just runny enough to not feel like it's been over reduced. Not clumpy or super heavy as some other chowders. There's a strong herbal quality in the mix, combined with large pieces of clam and bacon. The amount of clam isn't very generous, but there's enough of the chewy mollusk to get at least a piece per spoonful. Lots of tender diced potato chunks complete the chowder. There's by far the most potato in terms of ingredients in this dish, making it very carb heavy. The chowder is served steaming hot and remains quite hot for a long while even in the cold air of the restaurant. (4/5) Crab Melt ($18) - Interesting open faced sandwich, with the crusty heel portion of a ciabatta roll, toasted until crispy on the flats, but still softer on the interior, albeit thin. It's topped with an ice cream scoop of crab salad. The salad is essentially tuna salad with the crab substituted for tuna. This means there's a ton of crab and not much filler - plenty of sweet shreds of crab meat, mixed with a couple of crunchy pieces of celery in a creamy sauce. The crab salad is then topped with cheese, then the entire creation is broiled until the cheese on top becomes bubbly and the cheese that flows down the sides of the bread becomes essentially a crunchy cheese skirt. Something to note, not necessarily a negative, is that the center of the crab salad scoops remains cold, which is in stark contrast to the warmed exterior. The dish comes with a side of ridged kettle chips. Robustly crunchy, simply salted. Surprisingly good to dip into the clam chowder in fact. (4/5) Salty Girls definitely serves some good seafood dishes. I certainly wouldn't mind returning the next time I'm in Seqium. I had a chill dinner with friends on a Friday night. Order from a QR code or head straight up to the counter, if you have questions. We ordered the pound of mussels, which were well cooked and plump, though there was one that was closed - the sauce wasn't that flavorful, as it was mostly butter and I felt like it was missing some herbs. Crab roll was refreshing and good on a buttery brioche, would order again. Bowl of clam chowder was delicious, I liked the texture of the veggies as they were chopped into smaller pieces and cooked well. Slices of bread were the cherry on top! We were indecisive about the oysters, so we got a flight with 3 of each Sweet Creaks, Cairns, Sapphires, and Miyakis. These took a while to arrive, and we were almost done with our entrees by the time we dug into these, but they were deliciously fresh and came with two mignonettes. With three beers, tip, and a credit card fee, our total came it about $150 which felt like a lot for the experience. You know that daydream you have about vacation, when you're sitting in the sun and salt water is not far away and you're having a cold adult beverage with family or friends... and work, dirty laundry, bills, and that weird noise your car is making that sounds expensive seem like they don't even exist anymore? This place tastes like that feeling. We had the steamed Manila clams, which were perfectly cooked and came with an abundance of salty buttery cooking juice that you need to soak bread in. Pro tip, ask for extra bread. We have the clam chowder, which was generously studded with both clams and potatoes. Probably as many clams as potatoes which is awesome because clams are expensive. My son had the crab melt, which was the same crab salad I had in the crab roll, but warm and served on toasted ciabatta with melted cheddar. I had the crab roll which was served on a toasted brioche bun. It was delicious and fresh not frozen crab meat with just enough mayonnaise to get it to hold together. It is counter service, so keep that in mind. Nevertheless the service was attentive despite the Sunday afternoon vacation crowds. Love everything about this restaurant! The food was delicious the service was amazing and the food was quick as well! We went here during pride month so there was party favors all over the table which was great cause the kids loved it. They were super distracted. The waitress even let you keep the favors at the end. The chowder was sooo packed with lots of potatoes, clams, and I think I even saw bacon. It wasn't soupy at all and very filling; not super salty as well. A must if you go there. The oysters were soo fresh but some were a bit bitter might be the season itself. I loved the ahi poke as well. The ahi was fresh and the sauce gave it a kick of spice. Good balance with the rice however. The crab roll was decent as well. It taste exactly like a tuna salad. Chips were a bit salty though. I think the crab melt was better. Stopped by here after visiting one of the lavender farms! We got the baked oysters with two types of butter--garlic Parmesan butter & Chipotle bourbon butter. The garlic Parmesan was our favorite but the chipotle was good too! My dad had the clam chowder and prawn cocktail, both were great. My mom got the fish tacos & they were pretty good! I got the ahi poke because I wanted something a bit more simple after the buttery oysters & it was a solid amount of fish with some spicy wasabi mayo. Have been here a couple times during long road trips to Olympic national park. Highly recommend their oysters, clams, and clam chowder. Their toppings for their baked oysters were unique and paired well. Everything else was just lacking. Fish taco was too salty and not fresh. Their crab melt and crab roll barely had any flavor or crab. And their house made chips was just a hard pieces of salt, would only be good for the chowder, otherwise, would much prefer simple fries or salad. Not much service, though we do prefer the fast QR code phone ordering system. You get your own water but we had to wait for a while for them to refill their big dispensers. Our tables were quickly cleaned where we could still smell some leftover seafood from the past customers. Quite a small place so wait can be a while for weekend lunch hours. read more

Excellent food and great service! My husband and I enjoyed the wide selection of beer and cocktails. We ordered the clam chowder to start, fish tacos as our main course and then we ended our meal with oysters! Drove all the way to Sequim with my folks, and when we got there, pretty much found out that that's the only reason why we're here, to go to this place! Haha. And wow, did not disappoint! If this place was in Portland, we'd never be able to get in. It's small, with a little parking lot and plenty of street spaces. Came in at an off time (between lunch and HH), but it was still hopping. We got a drink, lavender is a big thing around here, so lavender drinks! Half dozen oysters ($21), liked the Carins the best. Buttery and not too salty. With a champagne ice garnish, yum! The chowder is award-winning and should win all the contests. Cup is $7. I talk about chowder a lot, and this place has taken the number one spot, sorry Fish Hopper in Kona, Pike Place and so on...not too thick, but not thin, rich, deep clam flavor and veggies are well cooked in probably 100 pounds of bacon fat. Could this be a good seafood sandwich dip...I only can dream. My mom had a prawn cocktail ($14), see pic, nuff said, awesome! And my dad got some seafood tacos ($11), also wow! Service is good, but this is a busy place, so expect that, I will say that they acknowledge everyone! Which is so key, even if you have a little wait time. So I take that as a plus. I'm guessing from the name and the staff, that this is a women-owned and run joint, which I support 100%, and the little touches of self-serve items (cold water, extra cutlery, spices and sauce) and hospitality speak to their commitment to their customers. The only, and I mean only small (just this gal's opinion), thing that I wasn't too over the moon about was the ordering system, it's table number QR code and pay, which is cool and I don't think it would run as smooth as it does without it (aka counter service or again, busy servers), but it, for me, cuts down on the personal feel that I really do think they are going for. The food here is to not be missed! Fresh seafood no matter what you choose. Even the buttered bread is memorable. They put some bacon in their clam chowder for a smoky flavor, and mine came with a lot of potatoes and non-chewy clam (which is how I like it). The servers were so awesome and kind, even to a group of obvious tourists. It's a place that looks like it's enjoyed by locals at all hours of the day.
