Our friends ordered the tri tip and it was good, but I ordered the Chicken Avacado Club with fries and my husband the Patty Melt. When it was served to us the fries were cold the chicken was really dry and cool- you could tell it sat under a light for a long time. The unfortunate part is we never heard an apology for the wait and no one ever asked how the food was. My dinner was very tasty, however the employee stocking the pastry cabinet was violating health codes. He was a young gentleman transferring bear claws and pies to the case without wearing gloves. Always stop at Black Bear when I travel from Kitsap County. Last night I had the worst meal ever despite their burgers always being on the dry side. Ordered their Original Scrambowl. It was supposed to consisted of potatoes, ham, bacon, sausage, pickled jalapeño, scrambled eggs and cheese smothered with gravy. To be served with bIscuit. What I got was was 95% hard rock potatoes and jalapeño with no meat, one scrambled egg (if that) and spoonful gravy. Served with English muffin. Tried to get servers attention to return my food and order something else. Was no where to be found. Saw her as I went to bathroom and asked for to go box. Box was waiting when I got back to table and paid the check stupidly leaving top. Was very annoyed with someone cleaning/sweeping floors at my table. Rude. Very. Ate here twice because my friend was super excited to go back. Great food and excellent service. Portions are generous - sometimes too generous. I was starving after driving all day and ordered a large hamburger. Turns out, it was enormous. Give it a try if you want a lot of meat! I also had their tri tip deluxe sandwich, which was delicious. My friend had their veggie omelette and a normal sized burger. He loved both. The shakes come with the can. Had a different waitress both times. Both ladies were working hard. Both of them checked on us a few times. Saw one of them calm down some kids with kindness after they got screamed at by their father. Gave her a large tip. They are following social distance requirements and seating people apart, so there may be a bit of a wait but it's worth it. We had great service here and are usually big fans of Black Bear diners. However our meal was just below average with canned green beans and the fish and chips pale and breaded and skimpy. This is one of my favorite stops on the way to Olympic national park. I first stumbled upon it when my friends and I were going camping and we needed to charge their Tesla. There was a supercharger in this parking lot and luckily there was a place to eat as well. Boy was it a good find. I ordered a chicken fried steak and eggs and split it with a friend. It was one of the best ones I've ever had. Everything tasted very hearty and delicious and something about the eggs that day was very fresh and tasty. Fast forward to today and they've expanded their chicken fried steak options. I ordered the CFS kitchen sink omelette (with gravy and cheese separated for dietary reasons) and it was a great medium between two difficult choices I usually have at diners, whether to get an omelette, eggs Benedict, or my usual chicken fried steak with two sunny side up eggs. Everything tasted great here and I was glad I was able to enjoy a nice omelette. Now that the itch is scratched, I think I'll go back to my sunny side up eggs. I eat at Black Bears all the time. Predictable meals and service and this franchise was no exception. I was starved so I had the Griz. Heaps of food at a very reasonable price. Excellent waitress who never let my coffee cup get less than half full. She was one hard working girl. Your experience may vary and no idea if the other staff as as on their game as this gal was but this was one of the better BBs I've eaten at and as I said, I've been to a lot of them. I was recommended this restaurant by a friend for the best french dip that I was craving, We were traveling to visit family. The only person who had a smile was the young girl who sat us. The waitress was the least friendly. She took our order and that was the last we saw of her. She even went off shift without checking on us and we just sat there waiting for our bill. My sons patty melt sat in the window for at least 15 mins while they prepared the worst french dip I have had. We were so disappointed in our experience. I wish I had the opportunity to have gotten the waitress's name because she needs a lesson in customer service. Our visit was on 8/25/24 I did send a email and have yet been contacted. read more

Sorry to say they do not know how to make a patty melt! It was not grilled so not nice and melty, was made with a round patty so 1/4 of the sandwich was just bread. Salad was wilted and had some awful brown lettuce in it and it didn't appear to be chilled. Hubby had chicken fried steak said it was good. Maybe we will go back next time we are in the area but will be careful what I order. After reading other reviews maybe our experience was not so unusual! If you're in the area and wondering where to grab a bite to eat, Black Bear Diner is a must have spot. To start, this place is cute as a button. Black bear decorations from the entire outside to inside, black bear themed goods such as hot sauce (which was surprisingly delicious we bought all three types), and black bear decorations inside. The staff are friendly, attentive, good hearted people with fun personalities! Food is wonderful, portions are HUGE, but there are still options to go lighter. We ate here over a two day period because it was that good. Chicken club avocado sandwich was tasty and light, huckleberry bear claw was gigantic and unforgettable, huckleberry lemonade was spectacular, great clam chowder, and delicious BLT's. On month 10 of the 15 day shutdown, I finally decided to vist black bear diner to get my free birthday breakfast meal. The worst part was that I couldn't eat inside. The best part was that it was free. Since business is a bit slow nowadays, I was able to enjoy my waffle, eggs, and sausages at the fire table outside . The fire helped provide some warmth, but the local mini-waterfall and hummingbirds really helped make this place feel special. I was in your establishment tonight getting ready to leave around 8:10 and it's Sunday June 8th I was in there with my family and the music I heard coming from the back was very vulgar lots of swearing and it went something like fuck you and fuck your feelings I didn't appreciate hearing this... The gentleman that was listening to this vulgar music had red hair glasses wearing a shirt with wolves howling on it has a goatee and he was yelling at the waitresses telling them that they move slow and that they're good for nothing and he was complaining about he's not even supposed to be there and that he had to leave because he had to do truck in the morning and as he walked to my table to start busting it he was swearing about how he wasn't even supposed to be doing that that's not even part of his job description but the young kids you hire aren't good for anything other than standing around so there's juice in the cup I don't think he's a good fit for your establishment.... He was very rude to the wait staff he told one waitress that she wasn't moving fast enough for him and that everyone needed to hurry up so he could get out of there for 8:00 it didn't matter whether or not he had more stuff left to do he was leaving at 8:00 and it didn't matter if he left the other dishwasher high and dry with no help... And he kept calling the waitresses dumb bitches. We were really excited to eat here after seeing a couple reviews stating it was kid friendly and the menu looked good. But the night we went in, we were told it would be a 15 minute wait, even though there were empty tables, but we figured maybe they were short staffed and didn't mind waiting. But after a few minutes I heard the hostess tell another employee that she was "making them wait". There also seemed to be only one waitress actually helping people, while 2 others were standing together talking most of the time we waited. The next group came in and were told 30 minute wait. A third group came in and the 2nd employee told them "yeah you guys should probably go somewhere else, it's going to be like an hour" They were obviously trying to get rid of people so we left. Great food with very generous portions! It had been a long day and I was hungry so I ordered the Fit and Focused scramble as well as Bruce's Meat Lovers omelette. Mom snagged their slow roasted pot roast dinner. The Fit and Focused scramble was quite tasty with just the eggs whites and the combination of spinach and mushrooms mixed in. Not much avocado though. There was A LOT of cheese on top though and I ended up scraping a little more than half off. The Meat Lovers omelette was phenomenal. It was well stuffed with the various meats, cooked just right. If you're a meat fan that is definitely the way to go. That had cheese on top as well but not as much as the scramble. If you want to cut a little more calories from your meal it's worth asking if they can skip adding the cheese. I tried some of mom's pot roast and corn and while the pot roast tasted great, the corn was overdone and too chewy so she was only able to eat a few bites. It should also be noted she originally ordered green beans but our waiter informed us about 10 mins after we ordered the kitchen was out of green beans (about 230pm). Our waiter created a friendly atmosphere though! She was really nice. The prices aren't bad at all considering the portions sizes - especially the amount of pot roast mom got. And as of my review they have a yelp special where you get a free pie or dessert if you check in so that's worth utilizing as well if you find yourself here.
