    Chocolate Shake

Last visited: May 2024 On the way from a hiking spot -- Marymere Falls -- to Bainbridge Island. Stopped by here at The Big Elk Restaurant, mainly as we heard they serve Elk here. Came here with fam, we are visiting Seattle, WA area. Group of 10 or so. I ordered: - Chocolate Milkshake - Real Elk Burger (extra 1/2 lb Elk patty) - Clam Chowder as soup side Rest of group ordered: - Seafood Platter - Real Elk Burger (x2) - Grilled Chicken Platter - Fish and Chips Ambiance was swell. We got a separate room for our group. There was a fake mirror on the wall, rather clever. I (along with most of others) ordered Real Elk Burger, as that is a signature dish here at Big Elk. The burger is made with real Elk meat. I ordered double patty, so a little extra. Got Clam Chowder as choice of side. I also ordered Chocolate Shake for drink and that came first. Presentation was great and I quickly finished it. It tasted sugary and good and much needed after slight dehydration from sunny weather outside. Real Elk Burger was pretty good, and came with bacon, tomato, and cheese. It was definitely distinct taste from beef, and tasted a little like kidney to me, but in good way. There was almost zero fat on patty and just lean meat. Since I ordered extra patty, I couldn't finish all of it, despite starting off with empty stomach, and had to pack maybe 1/4 of it to go. The side which was Clam Chowder was just decent. It was a little too buttery and creamy for me, but it was Ok. All in all, food was great and I'm rating up because service was really good as well as general food like apps etc. was well prepared and also presented well. Really like this spot for Real Elk meat, and hopefully will get a chance to visit again once I'm in the Port Angeles, WA area.

The big elk restaurant was fantastic! The service the food and customer service were great. We had a hamburger steak dinner and a bacon Swiss burger with salads. Fresh greens fresh meat. Highly recommend if you're staying in Sequim!

Stopped here for lunch and it was good. My husband had the clam chowder and said it was tasty! There was a good amount of clams in it. We split the French dip, which was just okay. The meat was a bit rubbery, and the au jus was not very flavorful. We also had the Elk sampler platter which had a nice variety of fried snacks. The server was very nice and attentive, even with a full place. This is a cute rustic older spot worth stopping in.

This is a great joint when you're in the Sequim local town. Great seating lots of menus selections from breakfast to dinner. It may take a while for you to decide whether to get breakfast or lunch! Price is fairly reasonable and service is efficient and friendly! Must try is their local favorite lavender lemonade it has just the right tartness and sweetness. We ordered a few on the sandwich menus and I got their shrimp salad. It is flavored and seasoned nicely. I would recommend to stop by this restaurant before heading to nearby sceneries in the town.

I was rather disappointed in our dinner here. The clam chowder had a sour taste, was not very well seasoned nor very thick. Color was off. After tasting the sour notes I passed on eating it. Most of the seafood is deep fried...I chose instead the sautéed shrimp. It was served in a pool of buttery water, the veggies I believe were a frozen variety small pieces, this wasn't sautéed. The shrimp was ok. The other in my group has the dip sandwich, it was a ground meat patty on a tasty bun. She indicated the mashed potatoes were instant. Service was prompt and friendly however. Feel this is probably the place for drinks and fried foods.

    Cute cup of hot chocolate.

Staff super friendly, sadly like everywhere else the prices have risen greatly over time. Hubby ordered the classic Eggs Benny w/ fries instead of hash browns w/coffee. I ordered Eggs Benny Country Style on a croissant instead of muffin. Each were a whopping $20.50! (For an old school cafe that's high.... if it was a fancier water view place or maybe a fresh crab or salmon Benny sure.) Mine came with their grated potato pancakes. I asked about the sausage gravy since it came with a mushroom sauce so she brought me a small side but realized later was charged 3.25. They advertise their bacon as premium thick sliced from Seattle butcher, hickory smoked weighing over 1/2lb for 4 slices (9.00) it was good but honestly looked and tasted like a standard good bacon. We were expecting something more like decadent crispy pork belly for the price and description. Hubby enjoyed his meal, but eggs Benny should have a soft yolk and both of ours were cooked past that. Our server was so sweet we didn't want to complain. Coffee $5 but was good blend and ended up buying a bag they offer at register for $12 from local roaster down the street. My meal was good.... but unsure about the mushroom sauce and I love them. It was like this underlying slight sour taste that kept me from really enjoying it. The potato pancakes were different from what I recall. I thought they were more like latkes with a crispy potato taste/texture but these are so finely grated that you can't even detect they are shredded potatoes. It was more like a super thin buckwheat flavor to me, unique but was good with the yummy applesauce & sour cream. I ordered a Bloody Mary $12.50 was flavorful didn't feel any alcohol but fine. We enjoyed our meal for the most part, couple of slight disappointments but the prices are so extreme I don't know how people can afford eating breakfast here. Our bill with tip came to $90!!!! That's just crazy. I saw on the menu the price for side items like $4.75 for ONE EGG??? $5.95 for TOAST??? Wowza, Sorry but it just takes the enjoyment out of dining. That's just being greedy to your loyal customers.

We stopped in on Thanksgiving Day for breakfast, and even though they were packed, the kitchen still delivered. I ordered the classic breakfast--crispy bacon, perfectly done eggs, golden hashbrowns with just the right crunch, and an English muffin. Everything tasted fresh, familiar, and comforting. My friend had the biscuits and gravy with meat, and it was exactly what you want on a chilly Washington morning: hearty, flavorful, and seriously satisfying. Service was friendly, but with the holiday rush it was definitely a bit chaotic. We had to track someone down for coffee refills, which wasn't a huge deal but worth noting. Aside from that, the overall experience was great. If you're craving solid comfort food and a welcoming, down-to-earth vibe, Mariner Café is an easy recommendation--especially on cold days when you just want something warm and delicious. I'd definitely go back!

After a first attempt where a restaurant's hours were not updated, we found Stymie's in Sequim. It's one of the restaurants at Cedars at Dungeness golf course (the other one is Double Eagle Steak and Seafood). It seems to be the more casual of the two options and we opted for it since we were in hiking clothes. The hostess told us we could walk in and try to find a table. She warned us it might be a long wait. Thankfully, we found a place to sit right away and a waiter gave us waters and a menu. We ordered cups of clam chowder to start. Thankfully they were out quickly. We got drinks while we waited for our food. The Dungeness crab Mac and cheese was listed as an appetizer, so we assumed it was a small portion. My husband got the fish and chips and I got pasta with shrimp. We got our entrees first, so we thought maybe the waitress had forgotten we ordered the Mac and cheese since they were so busy. She then apologized for the wait and said she'd be bringing it out shortly. We weren't planning on asking about it because their portions are very generous and even though we were hungry, we realized it was so much food. When the Dungeness crab Mac and cheese finally came out, it wasn't in a small cup, it was a whole bowl of delicious goodness. The Mac and cheese was resting in some sort of sauce and they were extremely generous with the crab. I loved that you could control the ratio with each bite. I wish I had taken pictures of the menu and its description, but all you need to know is that it's the BEST Mac and cheese I've ever had. I was floored that it wasn't mentioned in any review nor pictures. Maybe it's a new addition. Don't walk, RUN if you're nearby. You won't regret it and it will be worth the wait. I forgot all about my entree and just focused on the Mac.
