    French dip

I ordered the French dip, and my husband ordered the short rib Reuben. Food was fantastic, service was great. The restaurant itself is a really nice place. Definitely worth stopping in if you are in the area.

Stopped by this spot for a quick breakfast and left wondering if I should write it into my will. First off--the interior? A+ for fun vibes. It's like someone said, "Let's make a place where you can eat fried chicken and feel like a cool person while doing it," and they nailed it. We kicked things off with a bacon Bloody Mary (because breakfast should come with meat and a buzz) and a Southern Spritz that made me want to say "y'all" for no good reason. Both drinks were dangerously good--like, "I could forget I came here for food" good. But thankfully, the food demanded attention. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich and--listen--the peach jam and melted brie combo? That sandwich didn't just slap, it wrote a love letter to my tastebuds and mailed it express. Meanwhile, my partner dove into the eggs over pulled pork and reported back with a mouthful of happiness. The side of pico? A spicy little bonus surprise, like the edible version of finding a $20 in your jacket pocket. Special shoutout to their housemade "Tabasco"--which I'm pretty sure is bottled ambition and wizardry. It brought the perfect level of heat without making me cry in public. Bottom line: next time we're in town, we're coming back. This place is now part of our travel itinerary--right between "check into hotel" and "question life choices if we don't eat here again."

I drove 65 miles from Everett WA to Port of Townsend to meet my friend that haven't seen for 30 years . We ordered a burger , salmon Caesar salad , Salmon entree and seafood pasta . All the food qualities were good and flavorable . The only thing I observed was that after the guests left , there was a server pour the left over iced tea into the water jar they served you on the table and then picked up all four dirty glasses by sticking her fingers into them . It's not just gross but also violated the health code . The restaurant is located in busy downtown Townsend, a very popular place for a meal .

One of our favorite places in Port Townsend.

We adore the Old Whiskey Mill. We usually come here after a day of hiking at the Fort Worden trails and along the shore at North Beach. It's always warm, cozy, and beautiful inside (or in their tents outside during COVID). Great whiskey selections of course and very good house wines. The bangers and mash, fish and chips, and poutines are my favorite. Also, the clams bianco, which are amazing. And the servers are always really friendly. This is a great place to stop when you are in Port Townsend.

Food , class and po boy , both great! Servi e, great! French fries, great. Can't figure the 3 star reviews. Ambiance a okay!

The Poutine is best eaten before you go home and nap cause thats what you're gonna want to do. All the burgers are delicious and savory. Yes, even the one with kimchi. Good moscow mules and every first Sunday they do breakfast that always changes. the fish and chips/ artichoke dip..... OMG amazing, their spicy vinegar goes great in the fries and it's a good hotspot for pokemon go. Additional: Caribbean Chicken sandwich, delightfully tasty. sweet, tangy and tasty; to start, the chutney is clearly made with attention to detail for taste/texture; mixed with the melted cheese curds makes a perfect in-between for anyone. Chicken is cooked and seasoned to perfection, fresh veggies add to the flavor. As always, a Moscow mule ties it all back together. Coffees good and they have new happy hour foods yearly update: the salmon was delicious and a BEAUTIFUL presentation. The Knish is soooo good with the cheese and caramelized onions it's a perfect appetizer for happy hour.

I really enjoy this place. The servers are always very friendly, very fast, and the food is good. I tried the new salmon sandwich last time and it was pretty good. I prefer a stronger sauce/flavor, but it wasn't bad! I LOVE the fried oysters and salmon bisque! Sooo yummy! My only complaint is happy hour is at a weird time (probably intentionally ) and they close so early. People from out of town (on business trips) have nowhere to go at 8pm!

    House Salad w/ Steak
    Lydia L.

Service: great. Our waiter was very nice and willing to accommodate - we asked to substitute veggie patty for meat patty in one of the burgers, and add steak to the House Salad. He managed to accommodate both requests. Food was served after quite some wait but they were very busy at the time. Food: good. I really enjoyed the House Salad with steak. The salad was well seasoned and the steak was grilled deliciously. However, some of the other dishes didn't receive a positive review.

Bangers and Mash did not disappoint!.

Friendly staff, outdoor eating (on the street) was a little noisy, but not their fault. My wife had the traditional burger; she said it was the best she has had. I've had slightly better bangers and mash . . . in Ireland! Wish we lived closer.

    Cubano with sweet potatoes

Having a dog we need to sit outside. Their outside was wonderful with ambience, good spot, and good seating. I don't know about you but sometimes outside seating looks like they threw out a few chairs and a table with no thought about the customer, like we are 2nd class citizens because we may be traveling and cannot leave our dog in the hot car for one. Anyway, off my soapbox yet again.. ha So aside from great outside seating, the menu was awesome. They have special cocktails so I had one of course, very refreshing with gin and cucumber soda etc. Next up, the menu has some imagination going for it. We ordered the cubano with sweet potato fries. We actually split it and I'm glad we did because the dish was huge.(SEE PIC) It was basically a panini just filled with different kinds of meats and cheese. We were happy and content. Really digging the hospitality here in Port Townsend. Lots of great eateries that love dogs, shopping, galleries, you name it.

There's a certain romance people expect when they step into a French brasserie--the low hum of…read moreconversation, the clink of glasses, a dimly lit room that whispers rather than shouts. Brasserie L'Ecole leans hard into that mood. Maybe a little too hard. Look, I get it. Lighting can be seductive. It can soften edges, blur imperfections, make everyone feel like they're in on something intimate and vaguely cinematic. But there's a fine line between ambiance and obscurity, and this place crosses it with confidence. When the room is dark enough that you're squinting to make out what's on your plate--when you can't even appreciate the color of the food you're about to eat--you start to wonder who this is really for. Diners? Or vampires? And then the food arrives. Let's talk about the French onion soup gratinée--the kind of dish that should feel like a warm, savory embrace. Deep, rich broth. Sweet, slow-cooked onions. That molten cap of cheese pulling apart in long, indulgent strands. Instead, what lands in front of you is a salt delivery system disguised as comfort food. A few spoonfuls in and your palate is already waving the white flag. It's not nuanced, not layered--just aggressively, relentlessly salty. A blunt instrument where a scalpel should be. You start thinking about wine. You *want* wine. But then reality kicks in: what's the point? Pairing anything with this level of salinity feels like pouring a decent bottle straight into the ocean. Whatever subtlety, whatever character the wine might have had--it doesn't stand a chance. Then comes the brasserie burger. In theory, a reliable fallback. In practice? More of the same. Heavy-handed seasoning that bulldozes everything else on the plate. After the soup, it's not just overkill--it's a slog. Each bite feels like work. Finishing it becomes less about enjoyment and more about stubbornness. By the end of the meal, you're not lingering over dessert or debating another glass. You're reaching for water. Lots of it. The kind of deep, desperate hydration that feels less like refreshment and more like recovery. Like you've just spent an afternoon face down on the shores of the Dead Sea. There's a good restaurant hiding in here somewhere; since the service is spot on, buried beneath the darkness, buried beneath the salt. But as it stands, the experience feels less like a Parisian escape and more like a test of endurance. Cheers or Jeers.. .up to you.

Love the European Wine Bar/French Bistro vibes they have going and it's located in the cute Fernwood neighbourhood. Love their approach on French-inspired foods and showcasing seasonal local fresh veggies and plating it differently. The food is fresh and light, which is always nice for a French restaurant. We got the local crudités served with the eggplant roasted dip and it was a delight. The tomatoes were fresh and I appreciated the various textures, depth and flavours. The dishes are great for sharing. Love the pomme frites. The BBQ shishitos were a treat! The bread and butter were phenomenal. I believe that it is freshly baked. The service was amazing! They have a great ever-changing wine list from Europe as well as different parts of Canada. In addition, they have amazing cocktails. Unfortunately, Stage fell a little short for us. We had sent an email in advance mentioning that we are pescatarians and do not eat meat. We were very excited to try their fish offerings (Halibut and Rockfish) off the menu that night but our waitress informed us that the kitchen wouldn't be able to make any changes to the dishes and that some meat products were used in both fish options. We were very disappointed, especially since the food is so good. I recommend and advise that if you have two fish offerings, at least leave one completely pescatarian and free of meat products. We also didn't want to opt for the warm potato salad with mackerel since we had already had the pomme frites. As a result, we did not have a suitable protein option that night. This was the only thing that ticked us off, considering the level of care and pride they take with the food in their restaurant.

From there we ordered: - hamachi crudo - light, fresh, flavorful - gambas - butterfly grilled and served on a yummy sauce that was a little salty in its own but good to dip bread in - salad - shareable portion and liked the fresh herbs - steak frites - came with a good portion of skirt steak and fries, but was surprised by the cook on the steak- it was well done. On that night the Grand Bistro proved itself welcoming and satisfying. We returned this Christmas Eve with my aunt (who has memory problems) and my 102 year-old grandmother and found the experience even more uplifting. Throughout, the service was attentive, patient, and kind. (I think his name was Ryan!) The food - yes, the menu is smaller than before, and these are also different times - was terrific. We began with the beet and house salads, which gently anticipated the entrées. (We also had the bread service, which has earned growls in other reviews. Three notes on this. First of all, the service costs $9. Second, Sea Wolf Bakery - which supplies the bread - charges $6 retail for a small baguette, not including the whipped crème fraîche butter and garlic confit that the restaurant provides. This is not an agonizing mark-up. Consider that the first red wine on Canlis' wine list costs $40-50 retail but $130 to drink at the restaurant! Third, the bread is actually tasty - like French bread is supposed to taste but rarely does in the U.S.) I ordered a Last Word cocktail (the Grand Bistro is the only restaurant that I've seen in months with Green Chartreuse on hand) which shone bright; two others at my table had a non-alcoholic sparkling wine that could have fooled me. My main course was the cod special: the fish was cooked just right and the accompaniments - bok choy and a purée - were glorious. My aunt and grandmother ordered the mussels - the one they let me sample made me wish they had offered more! My wife's beef bourguignon was comforting and robust - exactly what you would hope for at a place like this. And then there was dessert! The sticky pudding was strong, the pot de crème wonderfully velvet (with a delicious cookie atop it), and the special foie gras ice cream an absolute show-stopper. Meanwhile, the atmosphere was lovely. We arrived just as the sun was setting over Lake Washington and got the best of the view. The place is bustling but mellow - not as harsh as a Parisian bistro can be. My wife asked me permission to leave a very large tip - she's never done that before. I said yes. Nous reviendrons!

Regarding the food: the boeuf sauce is a light red, whereas with the previous chef it was a thicker, darker red. It seems to contain too much flour, has an overpowering bacon aroma, and the overall taste is just average. The chicken now comes pre-cut; we preferred the previous style where we cut it ourselves, as it stayed juicier. The new chef is also quite skimpy with the sauce, which is disappointing. And the sorbet is our sugar overpowering the fruit and not as "icey" as I wanted. On a positive note, the crudo was generous and had plenty of fish.
