It was not overly crowded full of people and there were no double bookings etc. Walked in filled out the forms and gave my ID and I was pretty much ready to go. The test from beginning to end took about 45 mins. It was not bad. Dr. Pati was very professional. He explained everything very well and through. I will be back again. Barely 15 minutes to do the eye exam including photos, no hellos, asking about your day or interest in getting to know you as a patient or your eye history, just quick in and out and then "that'll be $140 please". My previous optometrist would spend 45min-1hr testing my eyes with all types of gadgets, multiple acuity, lens and distance tests, and took the time to properly review results and explain things in detail. Unfortunately I moved into Vancouver so cannot visit him anymore due to distance. This place is rapid fire and just seems to churn through patients as quick as possible. Couldn't believe how fast the eye appointment and testing took, in and out within 15 minutes... how is that enough time to properly evaluate someone??? In my opinion, it's not. After a brief "exam", I was directed over to the eyewear section where one can buy frames and lenses, at what I consider to be VERY high prices. No thank you! Felt like a totally rushed and impersonal experience, and will NOT be returning ever again. I was just a number here, herded between multiple rooms, people and testing stations, way too fast. Never going back.

However, I hope in future he will give me the prescription as is normally done, rather than guide me to the frame department of FYI. The same high praise cannot be given to the retail section of FYI. They selected a frame that did not fit, and when I returned to complain, the young Asian assistant after one effort said that is the way they are. Not good enough. If you enjoy phoning and being left on hold or being forced to cycle through the different phone options then FYI is for you. My last unpleasant experience was when someone phoned and left a message to phone them [number given], which I did. Did I get through? No. I got the same damn cycle of options. In future I'll find a smaller store for my glsses.

The assigned staff doesn't really multitask (handling multiple customers at same time) so you get their full attention during the visit. This high level of service is standard in Japan no matter where you shop (previous home) and almost nowhere in Vancouver would I get this level of service here except maybe at Mercedes. They follow Covid rules, everyone's temperature is taken, hand sanitizer is given. The shop is clean, well laid out, modern and spacious. Service is by appointment only due to Covid. The staff that looks after me is Ray. He is very patient and knowledgable when helping you choose frames and lenses, who knew there'd be so much to learn! This definitely helps me find the right pair of glasses more efficiently. I will definitely be recommending this store to friends and family.
