Over the past 12 years, I have been coming into Spectus Eyewear for my prescription glasses. Top notch experience. Six pair of what I call 'art wear'. Helena and her team are simply the best. I have attached a photo of my Matsuda Collection. All prescription, all tinted and all from Helena. It's a 5 Star boutique eyewear establishment. Superb customer service. Really wonderful. And such an elegant and stylish range of glasses. My husband bent his Maui Jim sunglasses. I took them back to the store, not expecting them to be able to be repaired, or at least, to be expensive to repair. The store owner asked if I would mind waiting a couple of minutes, he took them out the back and not only repaired them but polished the lenses and tightened the not bent side. When I asked the cost, he said 'nothing'. What a wonderful experience!!!! These days, 4th Avenue has a number of glasses stores with all your typical custom styles but if you want real style and real service, Spectus is the place to go. read more

Julia, the customer service was really upsetting me today. I've been shopping at this store since 2010 and whole my family have had good experiences before with the old owner and team. But for my recent purchase, I was so disappointed. I bought Lindberg glass frame and one of the sunglasses. The lead time was terrible, it took me a full month. But anyway, I was told by Julia that the lenses can be upgraded within 90 days. Plus, I clearly asked about the warranty before I left shop, it was told that any unhappy lenses experiences with I can upgrade in 90days. Unfortunately, when I returned asking for the upgrade and was told that it should be within 30 days even though I only have one day passed since I physically got my glasses. She hasn't even tried to the supplier, yes, she has called but not trying to get the issue resolved. I am for sure won't come back to them ever again and won't refer to anyone else!!! Thank you for your reading. read more

$1174 for sunglasses frames with lenses Summer 2018 Lenses $750 +$75 coating Glasses were stored indoors in the case provided. During 2021 glasses were used for two weeks while travelling in an RV. When not worn were stored in the case and kept in the same environment as the RV occupants lived in. Noticed some decline in visual quality however not until removing the glasses from indoor home storage the following year that the full damage realized. While outdoors in bright sunshine the visual acuity was so poor that the glasses were not usable. Returned the sunglasses to Spectus twice. First time told.., too bad out of warranty. Given the price and receipt language such as "premium", "advanced" and "the finest", I looked back at the receipts for other sunglasses from various optical shops. The glasses ranged from 6 to 14 years old. All non-Spectus glasses were still pristine and one "backup" set had been left in a car glove box for more than three years. I again returned to Spectus and requested some consideration for the price vs lifespan. I was actually asked if I had worn the glasses outside since there was apparent heat damage. Considering there is no disclaimer that Spectus sunglasses should not be worn outside.., what the? Please be aware that while there are no written disclaimers: top priced sunglasses purchased at Spectus may not "survive" the same environment that humans live in. Months go by, the frames purchased at Spectus are nice and in new condition, so I decide on another optical shop for replacement lenses. At 27% the cost of the Spectus lenses, I now have new prescription sun lenses in those $349 frames. The final nail.., an optical specialist looked at the Spectus receipt and said that the original lenses are not what is recorded on the receipt. Looks like (an optical pun), that I was unlucky as some others satisfied with Spectus. Wishing all proper "foresight" with their optical purchases. read more

I purchased Lindberg frames from Spectus Eyewear 2 years ago. They helped me find a pair that I liked, were helpful and patient. These frames are hands down the best frames I've ever had - light, flexible, and look fabulous. Then just last month I tripped and fell and cracked the lenses. I went to see them the next day and they took such good care of me. I had significant injuries to my face and looked pretty bad and they were so kind. They adjusted the frames so I could wear them without pain, and cleaned them up so I could wear them while the new lens were being made up. An excellent place to go for great glasses and great service. read more

Just got my pair of Lindbergs today. 1st visit - Booked an appointment to check out their selection of frames. Was greeted by a lovely lady named Shadi who so patiently guided me through. This is my first pair so I have zero knowledge of how frames fit face shape. Shadi was really helpful in picking out frames that would fit my face shape. Down to deciding between the final 3 frames - Helena with her keen eye helped me with picking out that final one. 2nd visit - Came down again after deciding. Shadi was there to help me with the measurements. Placed an order for the frame style, color as well as lenses. Advised me that it will be ready to collect in approximately three weeks. 3rd visit (three weeks later - today) - Got a call from Shadi letting me know that my glasses are ready to be picked up. Jake was there to assist me with collecting my glasses and a slight adjustment on the glasses for a better fit. The place is a hidden gem. Lovely decor, wide selection and most importantly, friendly and knowledgeable staff to help you find the right pair! Shadi, Helena and Jake, thank you! read more

Irina the sales lady really needs proper etiquette on being professional, personable and polite when it comes to regardless whether it's a in person interaction or over the phone inquiry. I have purchased 4 pairs of Lindberg's at over a $1000 dollars each, she should know that prescription eye information pertaining to myself is actually LEGAL for me inquire information about. Most disappointing customer service I have ever experienced, as a customer we deserve the right to inquire about quotes, models, and decide later or pay at the moment especially when we are purchasing glasses over $1000. Irina here thinks that because she possibly may lose a sale, or because of competition I myself as a customer aren't entitled to my information on my file. She needs a reality check, maybe it isn't so much about the sale but actually helping the "patient" have healthy eyesight by actually being caring and letting a customer be selective about their choice of frame and what will fit them the best. I am by no means going to spend over $1000 dollars on a pair of glasses I have not physically tried on, and will do so to search around to see what my options are. Do yourselves a favor and go to Mount Pleasant Optometry, they sell Lindberg and are really personable, knowledgeable, Kind and NoT pushy about sales. They also give you quotes, models # you tried on, without refusal and spend hours explaining different lenses. read more

I went in for a lens replacement for my sunglasses and received great service and was quoted $100 for the replacement. I was told that I would pay half at that time then the other half when the lenses came in. Upon returning my experience was pretty terrible on all fronts: - the person helping me with the replacement seemed terribly unhappy. She took my glasses said "ok", and disappeared into the back without any communication about how long it would be or if I should come back later - I left for a bit and then returned, and asked the woman at the front about my sunglasses. She said I would have to "ask the people in the back since they were working on them". Great service once again. - the $100 I was initially quoted apparently didn't include tax. Totally fine with paying $112, but communicating the full total initially is just kind of common sense with any business They did provide me with free lens cleaner and a cloth, so I guess it wasn't all terrible? read more

I visited this store twice and have yet to purchase a pair of glasses (on a tight budget at the moment) but the staff have always treated me so well from the minute I walk in until the second I leave. They have such a great selection and very hard to find brands. Very attentive and informative and concerned with finding the right fit and match for my face not just looking to sell me the most expensive frames. I always feel comfortable coming here. I find it sad that yelp has filtered so many of their amazing reviews and posted non sense ones that are probably hurting their business. Dont worry spectus your amazing service will be recognized in other ways!! I hope to shop with you guys soon! read more

Fantastic service as always. I've been buying glasses here for years and am always pleased with how smooth the process is. Friendly and knowledgeable staff, great products, and quick to get orders in -- You can't ask for more. I'll be continuing to bring my business to Spectus. read more

I've bought my last two pairs of glasses at Spectus. Love the selection of frames, and the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, always remembering your name and your information, and more interested in finding the right frame for you than trying to upsell you into expensive frames. I've recently moved to Victoria, and came back here to buy glasses as I couldn't find great frames (or such good service) anywhere else. read more

This place is an absolute find. It's nestled in between two of my go-to shops in Kits - Kitsilano Wine Cellar and Gravity Pope. So now I have 3rd. I'd been looking for new lenses for the last year and in fact considering the jump into transitionals as I was time of constantly changing from drivers to readers. I'd probably been in at least 2 x's before actually pulling the trigger on some spectacular (no pun intended) Face a Face frames and each time was greeted by an exceptional sales person - Helena. Her sense of style and honesty brought forth the PERFECT frame for me. And in fact I also fitted transitionals into a 2nd pair of Persol sunglasses for driving. My Five-stars? One for exceptional selection of unique frames (I have a 3rd Face a Face in mind already...), another star for locations, a third for friendliness, a forth for price (not cheap but does unique style come cheap? Exceptional value overall...) and the final 5th for an above and beyond, better than expected, exchange in abundance, slightly rare these days, experience. Note: the transitions didn't feel quite right at the start so new lenses were immediately ordered in. No fuss, no muss, no friction for the customer. They've got things dialed in here. :) read more

I've been wearing glasses since I was 12 and have very particular tastes regarding style and quality. Certainly frames have greatly improved in recent years, but finding something distinctive is always a challenge. Spectus has a great selection of uniquely stylish frames. Staff were all very helpful and I am very satisfied with my purchase. I went with titanium frames from Bevel. They're expensive, but high quality and exactly what I was looking for. read more

Pretty smooth experience. I had to urgently buy a pair of sunglasses with prescription because of my trip to South America, but I could not wait a full week to pick them up. So I stopped at Spectus by accident and the seller told me that I could have my sunglasses with prescription ready within few days... probably 2 days or so... pretty fast. So I ended up buying with them. The experience was pretty good, the seller was very helpful. They are a bit more expensive than some other stores, but, at least for me, that's the price I paid for the speed. The glasses was ready on time. All good. The only down side is that there is no return policy. My second experience happened yesterday, around 6 months later, when I had to come back to adjust the sunglasses to fit better on my face. Then I met David. That's the type of person costumers expect to see in every store. He was very polite, fun, experienced and attentive! He not only fixed my sunglasses to fit properly, but he also fixed my actual glasses. Those glasses was a struggle to make it fit on my face on the past. The store that I bought them from, changed so much the shape of them that they had to order a new ones! So I asked them to not even think about changing anything on the new ones. I would wear them as they are. So I used them for almost a year sliding down on nose. When I came yesterday to Spectus, David saw right away my struggle and fixed it! He also explained me very well why that was not shaped properly etc. I had tried other stores in the past to fix many other glasses that I had with no success at all. I am really glad I found someone that can actually do a good job on that! Thanks, David! Thanks, Spectus! read more

Ok folks, if you want a hands on approach to eye wear with exemplary service and spot on style, you cannot beat Spectus. Todd and his incredibly well trained staff can look at your face for two seconds, then they grab the perfect pair of glasses and encourage you to look around to see if you can find something that fits or looks better. I have bought dozens of pairs of glasses, both sun and prescription and yet never had a problem. I have taken my glasses to them after they went through the washer AND dryer and they make them look brand new!! The space is warm and inviting with a sleek design and plenty of space to move around. Excellent location with ample street parking. read more

Once again I had an amazing experience at Spectus Eyewear. Helena and the team provide extraordinary customer service. The products they carry are excellent quality and they have a very good selection. One of the things I truly admire with Spectus is that the service doesn't stop when the sale is completed, the extraordinary customer service continues post sale for anything that is needed. Happy to report I finally received my new glasses today. Apparently it was a glitch on the part of the lens makers in Montreal that caused the delay. I am satisfied with the craftsmanship in the end and the staff was grateful for my patience. I was frustrated for 3 weeks but it's amazing how a great pair of glasses and a gracious staff member can transform a negative experience into a positive ending. read more

I love this place! Helena is amazing, friendly and knowledgeable. Definitely recommend this place!

I've bought 4 frames from Spectus over the years. They only sell high quality frames and provide high quality service. I'm completely lacking in fashion sense but the staff are really experienced and picked out great frames for me (meaning, that suit my job, my style, and my lifestyle - they take everything into account) in a very short time. Of course I had to go back and look at them 50 times and bring in 3 friends and try on everything else before I returned to David's original choice for me to realize, yup, he was right the first time. I brought in a friend, and it was the same experience - these two frames out of the entire store look great on you, I can suggest nothing else that will suit you more. And he was right. They're patient, despite my indecision. They know their products, they know their lenses, what will work, what won't. Trust is a hard thing to muster up for an optician, it's my sight, my face, I don't want to mess with less than expert. Thanks for your continued advice! read more

I went to this eyewear shop after reading the positive reviews because they had a large inventory of Lindberg frames. I drove from Seattle to Vancouver. I ordered their premium lens; progressives, transitions, glare resistant. After fourteen months the finish on the lens started to peel back from the frame. I called the store and they immediately stated that the lens had a one year warranty. They were "overly" adamant which made me wary that this was not the first time such a problem has occurred with their lenses. They never even bothered to look at the lens and offered no customer service. My total all in price was $1350 for a pair of glasses that didn't last for fourteen months. Never again. I took my glasses to Market optical and paid $800 to replace the lens. read more

VERY helpful staff especially ALEX and has smaller brands that other stores don't have

Maybe it's ageism or classism. I'm uncertain but I stood around clearly interested in the products for a good ten minutes, and nobody even acknowledged my being there, let alone offering to help. It wasn't because they were overwhelmed with business either; people were definitely standing vacantly behind the desk. They had some nice frames, but who cares if I don't get any assistance? A google image search is free, convenient and about as useful as this shop was to me. read more

I can't say I would ever come back. I wanted to purchase prescription eye wear sunglasses knowing exactly what brand and style I wanted, being an easy customer! Checked this store out because it's in my neighborhood. Walked in with my man, not addressed, no hello.... That's fine, maybe they are busy. Started shopping and found what I wanted in about 2mins. Big store with great selection, lots to choose from. I think I was an easy sale because I knew exactly what I wanted and didn't really need much help. I was pleased to see that the frames were only about $150. So off I went to give my details to get the ball rolling. The customer service here needs some serious TLC! I didn't find the representative very friendly but I was pleased when she told me they could rush my order and have my glasses made in a week! Sadly, it took closer to three. I called three time inquiring about my glasses.... Sad and disappointed lol. When I had the product in hand I was very pleased. Unfortunately, my glasses were all scratched after about a week. They were supposed to be scratch resistant. Anyhow, seeing as I paid a ridiculous $740 for them (I shoulda turned around a ran the other direction). I took them back. When I came into the store the lady working was very rude to me when I showed her the scratches. It seemed like she had no intention of fixing the problem. I told her I always put them in the case and was careful with them. Luckily I had my mother with me, lol, and she had my back. Anyhow, we learned that the frames weren't set properly and that was the cause scratches, however, that was not my fault. She entered the details for the replacement lenses barely saying two words to me. No apology, no manners. I asked if she needed my prescription or anything, she didn't even look at me and said "I have it!" Wow. read more

I can only comment on first impressions. The store looks nice and spacious. Looks like they have a nice selection. What I found strange was that there was a "no cell phone" and "no photos" policy. This will be my first time wearing glasses, so maybe this is common, however this was the first place I've been to with such a policy. As a mom sneaking out while baby was napping and father in law was babysitting, I was hoping to make the most of my short time by trying out all the different styles and yes, possibly taking pics of ones I liked to show my husband and mom for feedback. When I asked why they had this policy I was told it was for security reasons. Just thought I would share. This might not bother others, but I would rather go somewhere with a little more freedom to shop how I prefer. read more

I recently bought a pair of glasses at Spectus and it was one of the best consumer experiences I've had. All the staff I encountered were so professional, helpful and friendly. Thank you, Spectus! I was in Vancouver a few months ago, and ended up in Spectus trying on frames from their extensive selection. After trying on for about an hour and a half, with a very patient sales person that I later found out was the owner, I still couldn't decide. I went back the next day and spent another hour trying to come to a decision, but was so torn, as their selection is fantastic. Once again the owner was very patient, showing me all my options, and answering all my questions. Still I couldn't decide, so he took all the info and measurements he would need for my favourite frames, and said he would keep them on file for me, for when I made a decision. A month later I made the decision, called, and I am happily wearing my beautiful Chanel glasses! He even had them shipped to me, as I don't live in Vancouver. Can't beat that for excellent customer service! read more

"The door is that way" ... "your not a customer" ... "please leave" ... "I had a hard day". Expect that response from one of their staff if you don't agree with buying plastic lenses. Aggressively pushing plastic lenses ... its "his" way or no way. This staffer has a horrible mean streak if "he" doesn't get "his" way. This staffer is too proud to accept another opinion, even from a customer. This staffer needed to be calmed down by "his" colleagues. Sad thing is that this "staffer" might have been the store manager and did not calm down until the race card was used. Have not been treated this bad in Vancouver for walking through the door and wanting to buy now. Racially motivated? Absolutely not friendly unless you agree with "him" ... don't cross this staffer at Spectus. At store a second time and ready to buy, asked why I didn't receive a call back from Spectus regarding a particular lens, this staffer remembered and probably right away became agitated. When has asking a question about a product a company sells become a taboo subject? Totally no respect from this staffer. Yes, an apology was received from this staffer after the race card was used and "his" attitude changed. However, the damage was done. Who wants to spend any $$$ with a store after being treated badly? May 2016. read more
