This is my 2 time getting glasses from Costco and I obviously didn't learn from my first mistake , first time my prescription sunglasses have had the lenses squeezed into the frames and the lenses are all distorted, my everyday glasses lense after a short time went all foggy and look dirty all the time, my 2 new pair this time both have frame problems, arms loose and won't tighten anymore, one pair the lenses are to small in the frames and make a creak noise when I touch them, lenses are maki my eyes watery all the time and are hard to keep clean. I'll never use Costco again. read more

Had my eyes checked at Costco Kitchener today with very unsatisfactory result. Initial test was brief and then I was told I needed to have an analysis done that cost an extra $60. When I declined I was told that there was nothing could be done and I was done! No checking of vision with scope and various lens combinations as has always happened before. Seemed like if I wasn't willing to pay the extra $60 they weren't interested in me at all! Will not return to this Office again. Now must wait a year to get another check by someone else. So much for Government paying (over 80). Extra billing seems to be all they are interested in! read more

Got glasses and the frame broke one year and 1 week after I purchased them. The only thing they would do for me is super glue them back together. Don't purchase glasses from them. read more

Recently, had eye appointment with Dr. Vermette exceptional expérience with him and the staff (Francois) in Ste Foy. Outstanding!

I was happy with the frames and the glasses initially but after a short time the coatings started to fog. My glasses look dirty all the time and it is embarrassing. I now wear glasses from my older prescription if I am going anywhere important which is far from ideal. They were inexpensive and the staff were knowledgeable and friendly but the product doesn't last as long as ones I got elsewhere. read more

This optician rates somewhere between 3 and 4 stars, but I'm rounding up. I love Costco and so I decided to get an eye exam here. You can't beat Costco quality or price, in my opinion, so I reckoned that would be extended to its service departments. And I wasn't totally wrong. My eye exam cost under $100 here, and I got an appointment in short time, and the eye doctor was professional and did all the tests needed. I guess I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to being on the receiving end of professional services. I don't expect doctors' and dentists' offices to be like the Taj Mahal; still, I don't expect them to be sterile, white rooms with no artwork at all on the walls, with piles of brown, cardboard boxes stacked against the wall. I admit it, I expected more from Costco. The two exam rooms I was in would be more in keeping with a doctor located in some back alley somewhere. But yes, they had all the machines needed, and everything worked and was clean, so I can't complain about the professional tools and appliances here. I mentioned my eye doctor was professional. And this is true. But I didn't get the warm fuzzies from her, that's for sure. There was no small talk, no little verbal niceties. She was curt at times, cutting me off when I was chatting, or when describing the differences in various lens options in anything more than a three word response. I admit, I don't like being cut off or interrupted like that, repeatedly. It feels dismissive. So yes, the doctor was professional, did all she needed to do to examine my eyes, and I felt like my exam covered all the basics, and I received my new prescription in hand. But I was in and out in 30 minutes or less, and it as as impersonal an exam as I've ever had. (I am not getting new frames here, or contacts, so I cannot speak to these services here). I'd recommend this place if one wants a low cost, bare bones-type of approach to their eye care and if one doesn't care to be treated in a special way. I know folks who don't care if they don't get the "personal touch", as long as a place does what it's supposed to do and is reasonably priced. This optometrist is for them. read more

Feeling extremely annoyed with my experience at Costco Optical today. I went in over the weekend hoping to get in as a walk-in, but was told that I had to schedule an appointment to see the optician. I mentioned while I was there that I was in desperate need of contacts. I set up an appointment for today (Monday), and after my appointment (and naturally after they took payment), the doctor hands me my prescription. It's only for eyeglasses. I'm like "Uh...why does this say not for contacts?", and am met with "Oh, you'll go out to the desk for a contacts fitting and they can help you. They'll be able to use this prescription." So I go out there, and am told that I have to book an appointment for a contacts lens fitting! Of course, they're booked through next week and offer to see me next Monday, which is utterly unhelpful. A) I don't want to get my lenses at Costco, I want to order them online. B) I have no way to order them online because they won't give me a contacts prescription until I do my (free) fitting - a week away. I left and called back in like a half an hour later to clarify what the hell had just happened, and the lady on the phone was incredibly rude, despite the fact that I was polite to her. She acted aghast at the fact that I wouldn't want to buy my contacts at Costco, and acted as if I was SUCH AN INCONVENIENCE for questioning things. Not impressed that they're basically holding me hostage, plus making me wait another week for yet another appointment. It may be cheap there in price, but it's definitely cheap in service too. 0/10 with rice, would not recommend. read more

Oh Costco how I love you. Oh my god!!! Everyone is SO friendly and knowledgeable here!! I had such a good time and will come back to get my contacts!! The optometrist was on point and awesome. Definitely book an appointment with them, they are very busy. Some people don't show up for their appointments so sometimes you are lucky if you wait a little bit and browse Costco. read more

Dr. Young is a good dr. but a dope when it comes to getting contacts. She needs to know how costco optical works.

Not just comparing this to the other Richmond dept, but these DT guys, or girl, in this case, represents what good karma can and will do. While I'm never been a bug fan of big box retailers, as I find their styles lacking in both selection and trends, I did finally found a Prada that I liked and made me look sharp, as if I can get any sharper...j/k... But when she saw my prescription, she quickly informed that Costco recently discontinued offering 1.74! Even she was disappointed... And thus couldn't take advantage of their promo going on. The next best lens would be 1.65, which I thought initially wouldn't make much difference... Then she whipped out a chart using 600 degrees, and showed the differences in width: imagine 1000 degrees plus high astigmatism. She really didn't want me to spend all that $$ and knew I wouldn't be happy. Asian young gal, wearing red frames so easy to find. read more

I found the service rude at the Kingston Costco. The optical department does not accept third party billing even though the pharmacy does it all the time. I was told that setting up the optical department to do so was difficult but I don't understand how difficult it could be if one department already does it. I will not be renewing my membership. read more

The website says they are open again, but no-one picks up the phone. I've tried several times.

They will not let you buy contacts from anywhere else other than costco if you have your eyes checked here. They have very pushy sales staff who do not release a contact prescription and do not sell less than a one year supply. I would not recommend and will never return. read more

The opticians here go well beyond normal service to ensure complete satisfaction with one's glasses. Each staff member takes all the time needed to find just the right frame. And Costco's well earned reputation for great value on all sorts of products is equally applicable to their frame prices. Fitting new glasses is where these folks really shine as they carefully work their magic to get everything just right. Problems with glasses later? Just return for adjustment or warranty replacement as the case may be, promptly & pleasantly performed! Have a special optical request that this group can't do for you & you'll discover they can point you in the right direction with a smile so you can get it done. Now a senior, I have been wearing glasses & contact lenses since my early teen years so I am not easily impressed but these guys really do a great job. read more

Great to have a Costco located in downtown area. Parking is 2$. Always busy but good customer service and customers aren't too busy compare to the Richmond location. Always has fresh produce and decent prices. Good place for buying in bulk. read more
