Dec 23, 2024, I misplaced my glasses, and no luck finding them. I called Tru-Valu, having never been a client of theirs and asked how fast could a pair be done? (My old pair got broken a couple weeks ago, so all I had were the sunglasses) They said if I could get thru and checked by 3pm, they'd have them the next day. So I ran in and got my sight test, picked a pair of frames, and they called the lab. Well, the lab wasn't able to make delivery next day, but the team at Tru-Valu went themselves to pick them up for me. Had them in house three hours later! They made a client for life! Tru-Valu is gonna save you SO much that they even skimped on vowels. I don't know, I have a hard time giving this place *any* stars. I mean, it's not that good. The selection: not that good. The service: not that good. The eye exam: nope, not... not really that good. Looking for a slightly out-of-date, but could potentially be cool if you are a suburban-scrap-booking-church-going-mother-of-none-stuck-in-the-middle-of-a-wes-anderson-film kind of person set of frames? Wondering where the D-list sales characters from your favourite gad-awful cult classic went to retire? Want to see some painted footprints going up to a business' entrance? (wait, whaa? Yes.) I know of *just* the place. For real though, I don't see much "Valu" (look, see what I did just there?) in this optical, BUT I will let you in on a secret: DEADSTOCK FRAMES. Go forth and prosper, friends. I know that I have. You are welcome. read more

Tru-Valu Optical - Eyewear & Opticians Near Me - Vancouver, British Columbia

We moved back home from Europe in 2011. We both needed to have our various eyeglasses updated. After appointments with our ophthalmologists we made appointments with the optometrist at Tru-Valu for our lens prescriptions. We then were helped to chose our frames and advised on which types of lenses would be best for us. I chose transitionnels and progressives. I usually get my frames and a complete second pair of glasses (sunglasses) for free. The selection of frames is quite varied and there is a large range. Our prescriptions have been changing over the years. We hav been coming here ever since. Whenever I go in there there are sales on the frames. I had a new pair of lost glasses made in just a few days. Excellent experiences from the whole team. Thank you. read more

Great prices, huge selection, professional service and my graduated lenses/transition glasses were ready in 5 days! Even had my eyes tested for just $25 and needed a new prescription. Love my new frames! I'll definitely be back. read more

Joe and Fred are so helpful and have great experience in selecting frames, lenses and providing an eye exam all in one welcoming location. They are a pleasure to be around and honest and encouraging with selecting such an important product as a new set of glasses. We decided on two frames for my father to accommodate both regular day-to-day reading and seeing needs and transition glasses. He is delighted to update his look after twenty years! and they provided a very good price for the two sets. We highly recommend this place. read more

When I went to redeem my Groupon during my lunch hour (eye exam), I wanted to get my RX and come back to pick out my glasses. They advised me AFTER my exam that I needed to pick out my glasses same day, did I forget to mention that all the frames have NO prices on their no name brand frames. How it works is when you pick your frame out to the sales clerk they verbally advise you of that frame's price. if I wanted to walk out withmy RX I needed to pay an additional $85 for the exam and when I returned to buy my glasses the $85 would be credited towards my new glasses. I felt completed scammed. I spoke to the owner who approached me when he overheard my displeasure with the sales clerk telling me of the $85 charge to walk out with my eye glass prescription. The owner then proceeded to advise me they can't afford to pay their optometrist if they have Groupon customers utilize the $59 Groupon. Remember Tru-Valu Optical participated in the Groupon program which stated "One full eye exam and $200 Groupon towards a complete set of eyewear". I was completely dumbfounded that they would perform such a business practice. I reminded the owner that in exchange for participating in a Groupon promotion they receive many 'new' customers who would otherwise shop some where else, not to mention all the others who may never utilize the purchased Groupon. I paid the $85 for the luxury of walking out with my prescription and will never walk in Tru-Valu Optical. There is no truth or value in Tru-Val Optical and I will share my story with anyone and everyone who will listen, wears glasses or contacts. I contact Groupon and they happily and refunded my $59 Groupon read more

Fred and Nirosha are always a pleasure to work with! Fred the grey-haired balding guy is always cracking jokes about how often I break my glasses, while Nirosha is all-around just a very pleasant and caring lady. They are always willing to repair my glasses quickly and efficiently, and if my lenses are ever broken beyond relief, then they will offer me some suggestions from the vast variety of eyeglasses available. My number one place to get glasses... I never go anywhere else! read more

Great prices, good selection, and helpful staff. Getting eye exams here is awkward and disappointing, however, and not recommended.

Poor selection and very poor quality frames and lenses. I usually shop next door at On Time Optical (higher quality in many regards and I have never had issues with them) but I was short on money and couldn't afford much this year. I mistakenly bought a pair here and the nose pads fell off when i was removing my sweater. They let me change the frames to another pair but when they did this, the lenses did not fit properly in the new frames. There were gaps between the frames and the lens which they told me was "normal" and it was supposed to be like this. It was a total waste of my time and money. I would never shop here again and I would never recommend this store to anyone. :( read more

The service was awesome. The staff is very knowledgeable about their products. I was asked about my particular eyewear needs and they went through all my options to come up with a solution unique to me. The store had a great selection of frames and the only one I could find that offers what others could not and for a reasonable price. Thanks again read more

I absolutely love this place. They are a great refreshing change from my prior eye place. I will talk highly to all my friends and family. They are extremely friendly and really take the time to help our needs. Thank you TVO! read more

I went to this place to get some progressives and an eye exam. It was a VERY DISAPPOINTING experience. The exam was rushed, and then I had to go around looking for some frames while my eyes were clogged with eyedrops. The service was either downright negligent or rude. One clerk who worked there said, "you would like big glasses, since you're a big girl." I'm not--I'm thin but just taller than the very short clerk. Very rude, inappropriate and insensitive. I ended up compromising on some glasses, which turned out to be horrible. I recently went to a real optometrist who said the exam at Tru-Valu neglected to find a stigmatism in my left eye. Even so, they went ahead and prescribed me a generic prescription which damaged my eyesight. I wasted time and money there. If you value your vision and your health and prefer a pleasant experience, AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!!! read more

Just got my second pair of glasses from Tru-Valu. The first pair, which I bought over two years ago, received a number of compliments from strangers who liked my frames. I like my second pair even better. As for the service--well, it's as good as it gets. What else can I say about a place that got my glasses and clip-on shades ready in four business days, because I'm travelling halfway around the world? I haven't had an eye exam through this company. I go to an eye doctor for that. But as far as getting well-priced, durable frames that flatter, I'm a loyal customer of this place. read more

Definitely not as good as it was 3 years ago when I would have given it 4 stars! Fewer choices and the order was not ready when I was promised nor was notified. Not happy with the people or the service. Too bad but I was very disappointed. I will not go back read more

This is a must. Workers are great and go the extra mile to ensure your experience is great! They are give you honest feedback when selecting glasses, which I definitely appreciate. read more

I wanted to get a set of progressive lenses, but I didn't know who should I get it from and know exactly what they are doing. I was recommended by a friend who she said is a great place to get a set progressive lenses at a great price and it was Tru-Valu. I was skeptical still, but I went in anyways. Nirosha greeted me first and scheduled an eye exam immediately. It was quick, painless and very thorough exam. Then Nirosha took the measurements and went on to explain in detail what I need in my new set of progressives so I could attend the upcoming health conference and I could see prints and projection with impeccable clarity. When I came back to pick up my glasses, Fred was there to greet me and his impeccable knowledge on glasses was impressive -- I used to work in the optical industry for decades. Suffice to say, the adjustments were painless and accurate. Then I took the new progressives to the conference and I had to say -- WOW! Impeccable clarity and comfort. More clearer than my single vision Transition glasses. Then I met an attendee in the conference and he also just got a pair of progressives from a Washington, DC optician. And yet, he couldn't see clearly the projection and the prints on paper and they were brand new. I then explained to him what Nirosha explained to me what the lenses should be made and aligned. He told me that his optician didn't do such thing. Anyhow, he's taking his glasses back to get redone. Nirosha and Fred -- they know what they are doing there if you want your progressives done properly and perfectly. I'll be shopping with Tru-Valu from now on!! read more

I broke my glasses in the morning and was able to get a nice set of fresh ones in the same day. Had a positive experience here and recommend it, if you're in an emergency or not! read more

Very poor quality frames. They are such a rip off. I had a groupon coupon which should have saved me money but I ended up paying the price you would normally pay for a high quality pair of eye glasses. I liked the look of the new pair of eye glasses that I picked but after 6 months of usage, a screw came of already. Brought them back to them to repair and after a few months, the same screw came off again. I will never go back to this place ever again even for a cheaper pair of glasses. It is not worth at all. read more

I've never had an eye exam here, but the staff were very friendly and helpful when picking out glasses. Helped me find a pair that suited my face shape and since I can barely see without glasses, they have a machine that takes a picture of you with the frames on so you can look while wearing your current glasses and see what you actually look like. read more

Loved this place. Thought the Dr. was fabulous, very thorough and educated on the latest techniques and tools. And I found a great pair of glasses. Best of all I was in and out in under and hour. read more

The best part about the service here is that I never felt like I was up sold on anything. I simply got the exams I needed and found the contact lens that fit best without feeling pressure to purchase more expensive lens. I used to go here and loved it when it was another optician, and I really thought I found my doctor for life, but he left and when I booked an appointment, I wasn't notified that I would be seeing another doctor. When I showed up I was surprised and went ahead with the appointment. After getting my prescription I went to a store and got my new glasses and the prescription was off. I inquired with the store and they measured my PD and it was completely different than what the doctor prescribed. This has never happened before in my 2 decades of getting glasses and I was really disappointed. Luckily the store offered to redo my lens for free. read more

Sensational service. Helpful right from the very start. Did not mind me checking prices and trying on glasses. Not like a competitor close by. Took only 7 days for my glasses to come in. Don't mess around with the others in this location read more

I've been a customer at Tru-Valu for a couple of years now. I was in the area a couple of weeks ago and dropped in for an eye exam. They were busy but managed to get me in to see the doctor which was appreciated. They have a great selection of frames and I got a good deal on a Ray-Ban frame. The staff are really friendly and helpful and take the time to help you find a pair of glasses. I'm usually more conservative in my style but the guy there helped me pick out a frame. I'm very satisfied with my purchase. read more

Worst experience of my life. Overpriced junk and they lied about delivery date to make sale. When I finally got the glasses, over a week after they promised they would be ready, they were virtually unwearable. Lenses were flawed which distorted my vision. Frames were too big for my face and did not fit properly. Amateurs. Total waste of time and money. Total rip-off. RUN FROM THIS PLACE!!! I have NEVER been more dissatisfied. If I could give this place negative stars, I would. read more
