It is businesses like this one that defines good service. I've purchased two pairs of glasses thus far. Frame adjustments are free lifetime and appointments were made easily. The assigned staff doesn't really multitask (handling multiple customers at same time) so you get their full attention during the visit. This high level of service is standard in Japan no matter where you shop (previous home) and almost nowhere in Vancouver would I get this level of service here except maybe at Mercedes. They follow Covid rules, everyone's temperature is taken, hand sanitizer is given. The shop is clean, well laid out, modern and spacious. Service is by appointment only due to Covid. The staff that looks after me is Ray. He is very patient and knowledgable when helping you choose frames and lenses, who knew there'd be so much to learn! This definitely helps me find the right pair of glasses more efficiently. I will definitely be recommending this store to friends and family. read more

It's like I've never had my eyes checked before. In all the times I've had eye exams, I've never had a more thorough exam... and I've had plenty... slowly going blind since like 1992. The guy at the mall ain't got nothing on Doctor Jess. I had to have the last appointment of the day because I work very far away. I was told very sternly by the lady on the phone that I couldn't be late. Yes boss. Rolled in at the appropriate time and was treated with the same service as if I was the first patient of the day. Dr. Chang spent a lot of time explaining each test and what it was looking for. I already know the puff of air thing and the looking at the bright light test. But then I also had to do like three other things the other doctors had never done before. One is like a video game. You press the button when you see the thing on the screen. It was to test peripheral vision. I asked if my sucky hand-eye coordination would hurt my score... she said try your best. I feel like I won. She dilated my eyes because she wanted to see inside. That's good. She made sure that the floaties I see aren't a problem by checking my retinas. Did you know that most people's retinas look the same? Yeah, me neither. She told me that my prescription is still the same, so no new glasses for me... but a year's supply of gigantic boxes of contacts please. Here are the best parts of their service: I have medical coverage that doesn't cover glasses, but does cover the exams. They were able to charge them directly so I didn't need to pay them and claim the money back. Cha-ching. Also, because I ordered a large supply of contacts, I get a rebate. They filled out all the forms, I only had to fill out some information like when I picked them up and paid for them. I commented that it was so nice of them to fill out all the information and she said it was because most people don't follow through on the mail in rebates so she just wanted to make sure her clients send them in. Dr. Tung is a very attentive and detailed optometrist. He gave me the first "real" eye exam I ever had and really took his time to go through the tests. There was this one machine I couldn't figure out how to look into and he basically spent 15mins doing it over and over again -- without seeming frustrated. When we were going over the results, he pointed out some health issues completely unrelated to my eyes I had in the past just from the pictures he took of my eyes; I was completely blown away and still tell the story to this day. Apparently, most eye doctors would miss it because the specs are so small, but Dr. Tung was able to tell me what to keep an eye on. There was a pair of glasses I saw somewhere else that Avenue Eyecare didn't sell on the display but they ordered them in for me within the week. Great service. Will return and refer. I was having a coffee and enjoying the sunshine this past weekend when I started experiencing some weird things with my vision. I was in the Kerrisdale area and had heard of Avenue Eyecare, so I went there to have things checked out. Dr. Chang was in that day and she didn't hesitate to take me in. Right off the bat, I was impressed by the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff at the clinic. What stood out to me about this clinic was the state of the art equipment they used there - some that I hadn't seen at other eye clinics before. Here they can take pictures inside your eye, and show you the nerves and the blood vessels inside at the back of your eye - you get to see what the doctor sees! Even more, they can also take pictures of the front parts of your eye if needed (which I haven't seen at other eye clinics)...they can document the health of your eye from front to back! During the eye exam, Dr. Chang was very patient with me and very thorough. She took her time with every aspect of the exam, to make sure no detail was missed in determining what was happening with my vision. She was knowledgeable, comforting, patient and reassuring, and made sure she explained things in ways that were easy for me to understand. By the end of the exam I was feeling a lot more reassured that everything was ok and I wasn't going blind :) I wasn't thinking of getting new glasses, but since I was there I decided to take a peek at their frames. Turns out they have a great selection of frames, from fashionable to practical to brand names to simply unique! I absolutely loved a handful of frames, but couldn't make up my mind which one I wanted. I'll definitely be bringing my friends and family back here, both to see Dr. Chang for a very thorough and comprehensive eye exam, as well as to help me pick out some new glasses! Dr. Tung is amazing. You can tell he cares a lot about his work just by the way he does his eye exams. He explains everything thoroughly and recommends what products to use and what not to use specifically for the type of eyes you have. After 2 weeks I went back for a contact lens fitting and it was something I never did before at other optometrists. He checked how well the lens fit my eyes, if any blood vessels were going into my cornea, and if the prescription was strong enough. I would definitely recommend Avenue Eyecare. read more

Best Optometrist appointment ever! Dr. Tung did my eye exam and I have to say, he definitely knows his stuff. I've always had high prescriptions with astigmatism, which seemed to cause minor eye strain. All my previous optometrists told me it was natural because my eyes were bad and thus I had come to believe that it was normal. Well, after one appointment with Dr. Tung; all that changed. He was able to recognize my problems and readjusted my prescription. Not only do I see better, my eye strain is also gone. I also felt genuinely cared for as Dr. Tung listened intently to my concerns and he even explained all my questions with answers that I could understand, unlike some other optometrists. After the exam he also gave me a detailed breakdown of things I should watch out for, which I've never been told before. Also, the staff are friendly and very helpful and offer great advice when choosing frames. The frame selections are very nice as they carry a bunch of designer brands, which by the way, don't cost an arm and a leg. I was looking to get some glasses done on a budget. The catch was not the budget but that they had to fit my wide head. I checked some models on an online retailer but was neither impressed nor satisfied. I went to Dr. Chang for my prescription and their staff was patient enough to show me their models and their best prices. Finally got my glasses, eye exam, and a great smile for less than the others advertise. They took the time to explain what I could get and the options and prices were always reasonable. I don't usually leave reviews but I can't help but be reminded to pay it forward every time someone compliments me on my glasses, which is very frequently, which is surprising considering I got them over a year ago. I decided to come here to get an updated prescription after I went to another place I was very skeptical of after the optometrist there spent 5 minutes tops, to hastily write me a prescription very off from my previous one. I saw Dr. Chang here and I was impressed right away by her professionalism and expertise. I actually have a bit of an optical history and she was able to find that out through the tests before I mentioned anything. But the star I specifically wanted to mention here is Gene. She is AWESOME. I'm a very indecisive person so I struggled in picking out new frames, so she basically saved my life. Although all of the frames there are on the pricey side (brand names/high quality stuff), she was able to very patiently work with my budget and my preferences. Plus, she's super cute and stylish so I totally trusted her input. She wasn't pushy at all and she was just super nice. Finally, we ended up with a pair she said looked good on my skin tone, and they fit the bill on what I wanted as well so I chose those! THANK YOU GENE!!! And I've been receiving compliments on them ever since. After a few months, the coat of my frames were showing signs of wear where I nudged them up my nose, and when I brought them back to Avenue Eyecare, Gene got a new pair of them underway for me seamlessly under insurance. I've also gone back to get the temples of the frames adjusted and she always makes sure that I leave comfortable. They're also super considerate when it comes to direct billing and insurance claims! I had my eyes checked last year with Dr Chang at Avenue Eyecare as I needed new contacts and I was wondering if my vision had been altered after many years of no visiting an optometrist . . It was a very pleasant experience , Dr Chang has a very approachable personality and answered all my questions . she even was explaining how their equipment worked and that made me comfortable. My daughter also had a visit with Dr Chang as she was complaining a bit about her vision ( she is in her teen years ) Did you know that up to certain age eye exams are covered by care card ? I didn't . She ended up not needing any prescription glasses , but I was happy that her eyes were healthy . I book an appointment with Doctor Tung to get my eyes check. Arrive to see he was with another patient. Gave me time to check out the showroom. Love the big wood table in the middle. There was wide array of frames on the wall. He was still busy with patient and told me to make myself comfortable and gave me TV remote to watch TV. We went through a bunch of test on my eyes. Each step was explain by Doctor Tung. After it was done we went through my results. In the end he could see that I was starting to see slight blurry image from far distance. But overall I had no eye disease and almost 20/20 vision. He say I wouldn't need glasses for now. Doctor Tung is honest and professional. I will definitely be going back to him on my next eye test and will refer my friends and family to him. read more

I went there on March 2013. I have an a condition in my eyes, my eyelids were -and still- itchy, and have lumps all over the eyelids. (By a simple Internet search, I knew that these were a group of 'styes' that turned into 'chalazia'. I made that search after I tried the treatment prescribed by the doctor at Avenue Eyecare and their treatment didn't work since they didn't knew what's wrong wiz my eyes in the first place . ) But the doctor there called dr. jessica unfortunately wasn't able to identify my condition. She gave me all sort of wrong information, she told me a styes couldn't last for too long (when in reality case studies says that it may last for up to 2 years, tune to 'chalazia- if it wasn't treated) and couldn't identify it a chalazia in the first place. Even worst, she gave an expired eye-drop as a sample to treat my eyes. And of course my eyes weren't treated and till now I'm suffering from the same condition. To sum up, if you are going there for eye test, it is a good place, but IF your eyes need a treatment from allergies or so, then start looking for someone else read more

I decided to look on yelp to find another place to get my eyes rechecked, and thats were i came across Avenue Eyecare. They were booked full for that day but after explaining to them my situation and how i was prescribed the wrong lenses by another doctors, Dr. Tung so kindly squeezed me in! Dr. Tung was very thorough with the eye exam and turns out my other doctor prescribed lenses to me that were 2 steps off!! I'm giving two stars based on the prompt callback I received in regards to availability and pricing information of my prescription. That part of the service went smoothly. Where it went of the rails was when I inquired if the eye care centre was able to bill the Ministry of Health for a portion of the glasses (as I am a person with a disability, or PWD). Jean, the team member on the phone, told me that the office only billed children's prescriptions through PWD, not adults. I expressed that this was most likely due to the difficulties in dealing with the government, and she said no, the eye care centre just wasn't willing to work with clients who were PWD. I told her that was a pretty discriminatory attitude, and asked if the office manager could call me back. I did receive a call back from a Dr. Chang, but the office had already closed when I tired to return the call. I'll try touching base with her next week and see what she has to say, but I'm really upset as to how I was treated. There was also a sign in the office when I went to drop off my prescription that the eye care centre would also refuse to bill with First Nations Health Care as well. read more

I have the worst eyesight and so I am very picky with finding the correct contacts that lets me see closest to 20/20. I had been battling a lot of tears and mucous for the last year and a half and was unable to wear my conventional contact lenses. My previous eye doctor did not take the time to find out why I had a problem. I was even referred to an ophthalmologist and he told me that as a female, our eyes get drier as we age. Ok.. I guess I can never wear contacts again!! My husband took our kids to Avenue Eyecare and our kids had no problems and liked the place. I thought I would try Dr. Chang to see if she could pinpoint my problem. She was very patient and thorough. They had a lot of high tech equipment as well. Dr. Chang diagnosed me with GPC and gave me the required prescription which helped my eyes a lot. Now that my eyes were not tearing, it was time to find a disposable contact that would best suit my needs. My vision is so poor that a lot of companies do not make disposables in such high power. Dr. Chang gave me 3 pairs from different companies to try and I was able to find a disposable contact that fit my needs. Disposable contacts would be more hygienic and better for my eyes. This office is very friendly, understanding and patient. They never rush you out the door like some other places. If you want a doctor that takes the time to find out your problem and needs, you need to come here. They are definitely care oriented!! read more
