Had a great appt with Dr. Sharon Lam. She is great, patient, efficient and very nice! She explained the process, did her thing quick and was able to shop right after at the store. Love this store because the owners purchase really cool funky styles that stand out. The options are what brings me back. I also like to refer people to this store if they are looking for more fun options. Covid protocols were followed and they were constantly wiping down any lenses that had been tried to touched. I have had my eye exams done here, purchased glasses, and contact lenses. This is a pretty busy location, so it really depends on what time you are there as far as being able to communicate with staff. During peak periods, expect to wait some time before staff are available to assist you. Aside from that, i've had a positive experience getting glasses here. Being someone who has a higher prescription, i'm pretty picky when it comes to how the lenses look. The staff here were able to produce lenses that were thin enough to my preference, while maintaining the integrity of the high index prescription. This place was also where I tried contact lenses for the first time. I initially was only able to get bi-weekly contact lenses, so i'd have to take them out and clean them in the solution every time I used them. It took me a bit of time to get used to putting them in and taking them out, but I received great instruction from the staff, and they were able to help me with proper maintenance and care for the contact lenses. The only thing I was kind of disappointed with was the fact that I had asked multiple times about getting daily contact lenses, and I feel because of my prescription, they didn't really look into the possibility. I kind of felt that I was brushed off any time I asked about it. I ended up going to a different eyecare place, and they actually did look into it and found that daily contact lenses actually WERE available. I just keep wondering if the staff at IRIS actually had tried to look more into it, maybe I could have gotten daily contact lenses a lot sooner, and it would have really made me happy. read more

Let me start out by saying this - the Opticians that work at IRIS are fine. The service that they provide in the front of shop isn't. I can understand when optical places have an optician to take appointments and write prescriptions. Where else would they be? What i have an issue with is having to buy or be "persuaded" to buy from that shop simply because you use that Dr. of Optometry. I had used the Drs. at this location for many years without an issue. One appointment i was told not to come back since i hadn't purchased a lens/glasses from them in 4 appointments. No worries! Won't be back. Won't be recommending either. read more

Would not recommend - asian male floor worker is clearly on commission and trying to help multiple customers at once, leading to poor service to both customers. Finally looking into a white female manager (blonde with coloured glasses) - she was kind but almost in a derogatory way. I was indecisive of which glasses to proceed with, the store only had one other customer, and she kept saying to make my decisions and come back another time, and beyond. Took my business elsewhere. Both of them are knowledgeable, patient, caring, thorough, and shower you with their friendly and enjoyable personalities! During the eye exams, you really get a sense that they care for and love their job - they always make the appointment about you. Want to know about cataracts? contact abuse? laser eye surgery? the anatomy of the eye? I asked Dr. Berring all of those questions, and he gave me relevant and easy-to-understand information. I learned some interesting things - wear your sunglasses people to protect you from cataracts! Don't abuse your contact usage otherwise you'll get 'ghost vessels' in your eyes! Went to the optometrist there and fees were not told upfront. After the eye exam, there was an optician (David) that was very pushy. I was doubting me that I didn't know my own insurance policy coverage. He was disrespectful as he was mouthing in a low voice that I was crazy in front of my teenage daughter. Yes, I couldn't hear it because I was talking to the doctor at that time. He was spotted talking about with the manager as well. My daughter saw and heard it all. This is poor customer service from that optician. I will not recommend this location. I was there in the past and it was good from another gentleman that worked there. I can only say that David was not hopeful and should not be working there as he is not professional and shows poor character. read more

I have 35 years worth of experience getting eye examinations and I have to say that Dr. Sharon Lam at Richmond Centre Iris is not good. She rushes you through the appointment. When having you look through the various lenses to see when the letters are clear, she is very impatient and gets annoyed if you don't answer fast enough. I just had to blink a couple of times to see if it was clearer in lense #1 or lense #2 before giving my answer. She is just so impatient so I don't feel like she is giving me a proper prescription. I will now look for another optometrist who can properly check my vision and eye health. read more

I desperately needed new frames for my new script. Eyeglass shopping is tedious and frustrating. I happened to be in Richmond Centre and saw the Iris store. I was warmly greeted by David Truong. He actually, genuinely, seemed excited to help me. He grabbed a few boxes and said let's look through the store. We looked in every case. He knew their products. He said let's pull as many as you like. Let's pull frames you're not sure you like. I'll pull some frames for you too! With no exaggeration, there must have been 50 frames we yanked. I was loosening up and actually enjoying myself. Then came time to try them on. What a hoot that was! I honestly felt like a movie star picking choosing. David was very involved in giving his opinion along with reasons why. We narrowed it down to 8 pair and I was going to come back with my Mom the next day for her opinion. The three of us had such fun deciding which looked best. I've never treated myself to two pairs of glasses at one time, but couldn't say no to the two that were perfect for me. David made this not only educational, but fun. He's very knowledgeable and has a lovely personality. This Iris location and David will always be my go-to for frames now. read more

Dropped into the Iris Store after visiting several "boutique" eye wear stores on Robson Street and Alberni Street (downtown). Was pleasantly surprised by the selection of high end designer frames available. I found the service to be very attentive and very knowledgeable. I was very pleased with the level of service....never rushed nor pressured. I am in business myself and deal with many professional clients so service is vital for me. The Sales people at Iris displayed excellent patience as I am very particular, especially if these glasses will be "my look" and create first impressions for the next couple of years. I was so happy with the experience that I ended up purchasing 2 glasses -- a Tom Ford and a Maui Jim (converted into transitional lenses). I won't hesitate to recommend to my friends & family. Ask to see their return policy and warranty before you buy anything from here. I bought a new pair of glasses only to discover that the coating was applied faulty and was beginning to flake off in the middle of the lens. It wasn't affect my vision but anyone could see it. They were only 5 months old, and when I brought them into the store I was told that I could replace them now for one time only. I had to go back home and dig up the warranty and they were correct, their warranty only covers a one time replacement. It's negligible that the glasses were $800 but I certainly will not come back and purchase here with such a poor coverage policy. Instead, I will do as I was told by the sales rep and come back just before the warranty expires and replace them then for one time and likely the last time. read more

Overpriced and poor service. When the MINIMUM you will be paying for an appointment and new glasses is $475, it's rather outrageous how little they care. Had to book an emergency appointment on the 27th as my old glasses were broken and causing me intense migraine headaches. Doctor puts the dilating drops in my eyes, sends me out to get glasses, then I get sent home, before the Doctor is done with me. I had to come back in to finish my exam. They told the glasses wouldn't be ready until the 4th. Come in on the 4th, and they had the wrong lenses in the frames. Crystal told me that she would put a rush on them, and they they would be ready on the 8th. I wasn't out of the store for ten minutes before I got a call saying that the Tech to cut the lenses wouldn't be in on the 8th and that I had to wait till 11:30 on the 9th Come in on the 9th at 11:45, the lady behind the counter says my lenses aren't even in the store yet and that the Tech whose supposed to cut them won't be in until 1pm. I'm already late for work at this point. I got a call the same day at 4pm saying my glasses were ready and as compensation for all my time and all the confusion, I was getting a free cleaning kit. That's right. Two weeks of my time and head splitting migraines, is worth a $12 bottle of spray and $1 microfiber cloth. Never shopping here again, and advising my friends and family all to do the same. read more

Thinking my family's bad eye genes caught up to me I went in and saw Dr. Lim. It was a good thing I did because I did indeed need glasses! Very pleased overall with the service I received not only from Dr. Lim but form the whole staff. I felt that the eye exams were very thorough, and I really enjoyed my time with Dr. Lim. I was a bit nervous as it's obviously my first time needing glasses, and she was able to explain everything in detail and was very reassuring. The staff was also very helpful in picking out my frames and educating me about the whole process. They do offer payment plans if you pay out of pocket which is a huge plus in my case. I was also very relieved to find out about the 60-day guarantee on lenses, so if my prescription needs to be tweaked around they can do that generally for no charge (you'll have to see their website for more details). Looks like I'll need a little tweaking already, but I'll be sure and update on how things go. Looking forward to having these wonderful folks take care of my eyes in the future! read more

This might have been one of the strangest optical shopping experiences I've had to date. I went in to shop, one sales guy (I forgot his name) was super helpful with a great sense of humor. Then when I returned to actually purchase a pair of glasses but was having some problems finding the same pair I had wanted a few weeks before. This time, I had a woman helping me (Michelle) who was getting impatient with me because I couldn't find the same pair and didn't want to just pick another one that was "similar". Ok, I admit I am obsessed with eyewear shopping (because I love eyewear as accessories). However, she told me that she couldn't help me anymore because her manager was angry with her for having "already spent 11 mins with me". WOW. I purchased some very expensive prescription sunglasses from Iris last summer. A pair of Maui Jim's which I really love and have been great. But when I returned to this store to have my regular glasses tightened to stop them slipping down my nose, the male employee refused to because I hadn't purchased those glasses from them. He said he would have to charge me for it. After having spent $600 on my sunglasses there, I was angry! Now I'm not going to give them anymore business. Went to get my pro eye exam. Dr. LAM was great and explained in details about my dry eyes and gave me an RX for eye drops that really helped. I also like that I can shop for glasses while I am waiting. The customer service from owner Kelly, Mike and their team and really second to none. I came to this location initially looking for a set of cheap glasses that I could get quick quick quick. I already knew that this was unlikely given the fact that my eyes are pretty bad and I need a special strong prescription. I came into the store with tape all over my rims, feeling like a nerd and knowing that I'll have to dish out $$$ to get proper glasses someday. I was surprised that they could repair my glasses and it was only $10. Wow! OK. I guess I should buy a pair. I'm due for a new set anyways. I booked an appointment, picked out the frames I liked and came back the next day to see the optometrist. I saw Dr Elisa Lim. She's terrific. She explained things to me about the eye exam and why she was getting me to do certain things with the lenses and eye drops and other little tests. She talked to me about my diabetes how my visions is affected as I get older. ( I was flattered she thought I looked like I'm in my 20's). Anyways, she explained stuff to me that made sense and stuff that my previous eye doctors never really explained. Even though I may have heard about it in the past, it was just too clinical for me, it was a good refresher and knowing that she had an interest in her paitent made me feel more confident in her ability. I got a proper exam and got the glasses I wanted. I'm probably paying more than what I thought I would pay, but the service has been very good for me that I really have no complaints at all. I'm also sure I'll get the glasses lense combo I really want this time. I rarely give 5 stars and this is one of those rare occasions. Won a $50 Iris card from Airmiles promotions, went to this store to redeem and was told it was not valid on accessories. The employee later confirmed with her manager and she again stated that it's only valid on glasses only. The terms on the back of the card are very specific and they do not exclude accessories. Furthermore, they do not state glasses only. I used the contact us form on iris.ca to inform them of the situation - it has been 3 months and never received any reply. I went to another store to redeem the Iris card and they accepted it with no issues whatever. My friend with an identical card 2 cities over also redeemed the card at her nearest Iris store with no issues. I would not recommend this specific location read more

I came to IRIS to find a pair of glasses after being recommended by a good friend. The staffs are very helpful and knowledgeable and the selection is very extensive. Only thing is that their prices are very high compared to Lens-crafters and insane compared to smaller independent shops. I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate the Tom Ford glasses that I bought from your location last year. Kelly McComb helped me to pick the glasses and fitted them perfectly. I get compliments on my glasses on a weekly basis as well as they are the best fitting and comfortable glasses that I have ever had. They are the first glasses that I have been able to wear all day every day without taking them off. I see so much better with them then ever before even down to very small print and I'm able to play golf with them on as well. Bonus. Got an eye exam there because my optometrist was full and fully told them that I wanted optical and contact lenses prescriptions which they said yes to. I wasn't buying anything from them in terms of glasses or contacts and told one woman that and she immediately gave me such attitude as she transacted the eye exam fee. I then finished my exam and left not looking at all the papers they gave me as my eyes were too dilated. I got home and realized they only gave me the optical prescription so I called and the same woman who gave me attitude answered the phone and demanded it be $60 for a conversion for a contact lenses prescription. I told her that in the beginning I stated I needed this to another employee and they said it would be fine. Then she rudely scoffed and said she would convert it now then over the phone. Overall the experience was very off putting and I would not go back here again. read more

Dr. Lim was able to see me right away and gave me a thorough eye examination explaining everything in both clinical and everyday layman's terms. I visited the Iris optical at Richmond center to get my third pair of prescription glasses in 6 years. I have insurance coverage and was trying to work within that budget. Like before, there was a little upselling but overall the staff were very friendly and gave me ample time to find the right frame. I had an issue where I got a better lens than was needed thinking my insurance would cover it. When I realized the next day that it wouldnt, I called the same Iris location back to make a change back to the lower lens that fit my budget. Looking past the fact that they required me to wait a few days until my salesperson was back on shift to make the change (?) and looking past the fact that they initially insisted on giving me store credit rather than my $50 difference back for the lower lens (keep in mind I was not returning anything. Simply asking them not to make the more expensive lens which was $50 more and I notified them the next day), after some back and forth they ultimately made that effort to ensure I was satisfied and had a good experience. The first two times I was there, zero issues. This time, a few minor bumps but to their credit, in the end, they worked hard to make me feel satisfied. As a result, I would recommend them to others and I do feel comfortable going back. read more

I have had two really terrible experiences to which I wish I had learned my lesson by the second time and am kicking myself for not listening to instinct. The first time I went to this location was through a friend's recommendation and I ordered a 1 year supply of contacts. They only had 6 months available so they back ordered the other 6 months. I waited for 2 months with no call. Finally, I went back and asked about it and they told me I had already picked them up and that they don't know what happened. In the end, they ended up giving me 6 months worth of sample packs and I could no longer claim the rebate because they were samples. I told myself never to go back there again but.... The next time I decided to go back against my better judgement. I got an eye exam (worth $120) to which they told me they would directly bill my benefits provider. I guess what happened is that instead of paying IRIS for the eye exam, they ended up paying me assuming I had paid for my eye exam. At the time I didn't know what was happening and the representative at IRIS didn't seem to know either but called me and told me I needed to speak to my benefits provider. I called my benefits provider and they told me everything looked good on their end. So I called IRIS back and let them know this, to which they told me "okay, then I guess everything's good!". Fast forward 6 months to yesterday, I get a letter from IRIS stating that I owe them $120 and if I do not pay up, they will send a collections agency to come after me. I find that completely ridiculous and unnecessary, seeing as I was never refusing to pay and never received any calls or voice mails from them regarding this issue. Rather than trying to contact me to resolve the issue, they went straight to sending me a letter threatening a collection agency on me. I called the manager today to let them know of what happened and she apologized but did not even offer any sort of remedy. I paid the $120 today simply because I was so irritated and just wanted it to be over, since it has already taken up a huge portion of my time. All of that was a huge waste of time and I made it clear that I will never ever be going back again. read more
