I saw Dr. Sexton a few years ago. Unknown to Dr. Sexton, I was currently under the care of another…read moreopthamologist. The office was like an assembly line. Patients crowded on chairs in the hallway, too! They did very quick testing. Dr. Sexton comes into the room and deadpans, " You have glaucoma." I knew that I did not. So, I played along. She gave me some drops for the condition. When I returned, she said your pressure is down because you are taking the drops. I couldn't withhold it anymore. I said, "I didn't take the drops because I do not have glaucoma." She just was absolutely so deadpan, I wondered if she was a robot. No reaction. I went to my usual opthamologist. He laughed and said, " Just keep coming to see me and we will just scare it away!" lol. Would I recommend this doctor? Do I have to ask.....? This doctor and another doctor who was double billing.........! And they get away with it! Must be careful. They give the profession a bad name. I don't think they care. Nor about your reviews........... It's called arrogance.

When I told the receptionist that I was booked for an appointment on this date he briskly replied that my appointment had been cancelled. I did not receive any contact from this office to advise that my appointment had been cancelled. The attitude of the receptionist was extremely unprofessional . I left the office and only when walking away did I think of checking to ask how they attempted contact so I returned to make an enquiry. Upon returning the receptionist seemed irritated that I was back and when I asked how contact was attempted they responded " I closed your file , now I'm going to have to open it again." It was clear this was a bit more effort than this person wanted to make. In essence the email they used was incorrect, and even though they had my phone number no attempt was made to ensure contact. There were some other pieces of the conversation that I won't take up space with, however it was the condescending tone of voice and attitude that prompted me to write this review. This person was rude, condescending and disrespectful towards myself. They indicated that they would be the person performing some of the procedure I was booked for. In that light and with a strong sense that the front desk staff is an indicator of the tone of the office I made the decision to decline any appointment at this office, I returned to my optometrist who referred me to ask for a referral to another ophthalmologist outlining my reasons for the request. I have never written a review before but then again I've never felt the need to .

I hate to do this but I absolutely hated going to her office, in Richmond. It was years ago but if…read moreyou want a review, here it is. I ALWAYS waited a minimum of 2 hours! I made an appointment for 8am and at a quarter past 10 she still wasn't in the office. The waiting room is so tiny and was completely filled up. People were sitting on the floor (which wasn't unusual) and out into the hallway. About 10 am people started walking out and NOT making appointments to come back. I left, too. I never went back and found another dr. whose waiting room is pleasant and not crammed. Dr. MacIntosh also misdiagnosed my cataracts, saying I didn't have any! I had 2 cataracts removed within the year. I also have macular degeneration that was diagnosed before I saw her. She never discussed that. I now have hardly any vision in my right eye and poor vision in my left. I know she wasn't responsible for this but it did need immediate attention, which she didn't give me.

This is quite possibly the most claustrophobic room that I have ever been in. :X…read more Seriously it was more than crammed in there. However the doctor knows what she is talking about, and wasn't rushing like many doctors who have 8+ people waiting do. This is likely one of the reasons why she is so backed up, and the fact that the receptionists overbook! If you can get a appointment at 8am, there won't be much of a wait; maybe 10 minutes. After 11, you are looking at 45 minutes. Not worth it. There are plenty of other ophthalmologists who are competent, and who won't make you wait close to a hour for a 5-10 minute visit. She also has another office on Broadway. And you need a referral from your GP/optometrist to see her.
