Review Highlights - Total Eye Care Centre Optometry

Saba's keen eye can pick up anything, but hopefully future patients wont have anything for him to pick up on.

Fremont Eye Centre, Doctors of Optometry - Dr. Clement Chan

Fremont Eye Centre, Doctors of Optometry

$$

This is an updated review for visit for adults (check my previous reviews on children visits)…read more Dr. Chan, as always, is extremely thorough. He is also the only optometrist that found my right eye has an elevated optic nerve. I got referred to an ophthalmologist and got a CT scan to check there is nothing weird behind the optic nerve (and luckily there is none). Other reviewers have all praised the professionalism and thoroughness of Dr. Chan so I would not repeat the same thing at the risk of being a broken record. I will just draw one very specific example so you can compare and contrast Fremont via other clinics. Because of my elevated optic nerve I was given a side-vision test at both the ophthalmologist and at Fremont. I will show you the two experiences I had for this same procedure. At ophthamologist Clinic technician: "Okay, focus your eye at the bright orange dot in the center. You will see some green dots pop up and when you see one, click the button. We will start when you are ready." (The test starts and is going, it's a long procedure) Me: (thinking) Man this is tiring when is this going to be done (test done) Technician: Okay, now we will do the same for the other eye. (doing, doing, done) Technician: Okay, please wait outside (wait for an hour while worrying what on earth the test was about and Google around to try to find an answer) Clinic: Everything is fine from our tests. We will book your CT scan and have you come back after the CT scan result is in At Fremont: Dr. Chan: "So as you know, this is an eye test that tests your side vision. For this test, at all time focus your eye at the orange light in the middle. Please remember this is to check your side vision, so if you move your eye around it would affect the accuracy of the test results. Now we will start with a few practice runs. When you see a green light shows up press the button." (Practice run goes) Dr. Chan: "Now, you might notice sometimes the light is brighter, sometimes it's dimmer. Whenever you think you see a light, just press the button. Tell me when you are ready and we can start the real test. At any time during the test if you want to take a break, just let me know and we can pause." Me: "Ready" Dr. Chan: "Ok, then we will start" (Test going...) Dr. Chan: "You are 25% done... 50% done... 75% done.... OK we are done. Now, we will do the same for the other eye." (Test going... and Dr. Chan continuously showing me progress) Dr. Chan: "Ok, so we are done now. Let me go over the results with you" And Dr. Chan uses his laptop, showing me the test results that indicate where the test locates my blind spots for both eyes, and tell me that he is happy with the result, and we will continue monitoring this (so more side-vision tests in the future) ------------------------ I will let you the reader decides which one of the two above is a more pleasant experience for you.

I totally agree with the review written by Sharon C. I have been seeing Dr. Yee regularly for many…read moreyears and her care and service from her staff have always been exceptionally good. I have now moved to Vancouver Island and truly hope that I will find the equivalent high standard of care with a new optometrist office.

ZERO Stars...This Port Moody Eye care Centre was the worst experience I've ever had with Dr. Yee…read moreand Her terrible staff. Why? 1) The eye test was completely incorrect based on my new eye test at another clinic. 2) Trying to get reimbursement for the charge to my medical plan was a battle with the horrible women at this centre. I had to return a second time to this Eye Centre and insist they credit my Blue Cross Plan. My new Optometrist informed me there was not credit to my medical plan, therefore I had to pay out of hand to redo my eye test correctly. 3) New optometrist redid the eye test, informed me that I had a fungal infection on both eye / lashes. It cost me $200. for the medicated drops, fungal pads and eye pads and the cost of the eye test because of this horrible Port Moody Eye Care Centre. This led to NO COVERAGE. 4) The volatility of two of the receptionists from Port Moody with rolling of eyes, denial that the credit didn't go through and refusal to acknowledge is typical of Port Moody businesses that lack customer services these days. I will be calling Blue Cross to determine if the credit has been applied to my plan? Avoid this terrible company and save yourselves the Grief.

I've been going here for over 10 years…read more This place USED to be great. All they seem to care about now is money. They seriously try to sell you literally everything and tell you it's at cost, but trust me - everything there is cheaper at Costco or Walmart. Glasses, contacts, elaine solutions....... everything is cheaper somewhere else. Was truly disappointment with how money hungry this place has become.

My family and I all go here for eye exams. I heard of this place because of other family members…read morewho go here. (I miss my optometrist in Vancouver (Dr. Archer) - but he is too far for me to go to now.) The office itself seems a little dated but adequate. The service up front is good (most of them). The older/long-time staff are great - they offer great service and sometimes go beyond the call of duty. The newer/younger staff member(s) are friendly and courteous - but something is lacking in warmth and sincerity. The main doctor (Dr. Mah) is good... a little awkward socially but appears good at what he does. He is thorough with his examinations. We once saw another doctor (Dr. Chi?). She was okay - but her English was a little difficult to understand... not so much the accent but the way she worded her instructions. My son saw her for one of his first exams - both he and I thought her instructions were difficult to understand and follow. The reason why this place doesn't get 4 or 5 stars is because of the wait times. The wait times here are often pretty horrendous! I've waited for more than and hour on several occasions. I try to book appts early in the day to avoid back log - but even with a 2nd or 3rd appt of the day, I've waited for an hour or more. One time when I was in the examination room, Dr. Mah put drops in my eyes to dilate my pupils... he said - it will take a FEW minutes and that he would return shortly. I sat there waiting for almost 30 minutes! I could see him walking around outside and hear him talking on the phone - so it's not like he didn't have time to come and tell me how much longer I would have to wait. I wasn't too impressed with the lack of communication that day. He should have told me it would take that long... The office gets a "good" rating overall - but they need to show that they respect and value the time of their clients.
