They downplayed all my concerns and outright lied about risks I inquired about. They didn't disclose a lot of serious risks especially in my case. They promised me "vision as good as glasses or better"..Immediately post op I got all kinds of terrible visual distortions, both day time and night time. My concerns were dismissed every time and I was told it's normal part of healing and should go away by 3-6 months. Several months post op now, I have a long list of awful complications, from visual distortions to horrible chronic pain, severe dry eyes which all led to severe depression. This nightmare could have been easily avoided if Dr. Lin and his team (Winnie, Gina, other techs) were honest with me and ethical people, disclosing all the risks properly, rejecting me as a candidate based on my condition and certain measurements they've done that proved increased risks of complications in my case, something they never disclosed to me. Instead, they chose to deceive me and destroy my life for profit. Shame on all of you.

I have a long history of chronic uveitis, which has required numerous eye surgeries and treatments, including cataracts, vitrectomy, and laser for retinal tears. My vision deteriorated rapidly in the affected eye leaving me with a significant imbalance in my vision which couldn't be effectively corrected with glasses, and I had been wanting laser correction for many years. However, my retinal specialist advised waiting until my uveitis was stable, which took over 20 years. Throughout that time, he consistently recommended Dr. David Lin as the only surgeon I should consider, provided he deemed an eligible candidate. From the very first interaction with Pacific Laser Eye Centre, I was impressed by how knowledgeable and informative Tiffany was. This level of professionalism and competency continued with everyone I interacted with at the clinic. All my questions, and I had a lot, were answered thoroughly and promptly. When I met Dr. Lin, I instantly felt confident in his expertise and reaffirmed that I had made the right choice. The procedure itself was quick and painless, and the aftercare was exceptional. After removing the bandage lens, I did experience some discomfort and when I called the clinic, they got me in to see a technician and Dr. Holland within an hour. The issue was quickly identified and resolved. I've since had appointments with my retinal specialist and optometrist, and the results have exceeded expectations. Dr. Lin was able to achieve a level of vision correction beyond what was able to be achieved with glasses. I am an extremely happy patient and would highly recommend Dr. Lin for anyone considering laser correction!

He wrote the sphere for my right eye and my l eye as the same. I knew from previous visits to actual professionals that this was incorrect. I questioned him, he doubled checked it and then rewrote my prescription. When I asked him why he first wrote them both as the same his shrugged and mumbled something. He was dismissive of my questions as to why my eyes hurt and the left one felt sore upon touching. He said he saw nothing wrong and banned me from wearing contacts even though I other doctors have given me the okay. I asked for his opinion on laser eye surgery, including puncal plugs ( I got two different suggestions from two different surgeons) ands very rude and said sure just do what they say. They also made me pay first. I feel bad for the receptionist. Dr. Cheng kept twitching the entire appointment and made me very uncomfortable. He treated me as a nuisance. What a waste of my time, energy and money! I will never return.

My wife told him these issues but he did not address them at all. He said her eye prescription is fine and left it at that. The way his clinic is run is shocking. No questions were asked about COVID symptoms at all. He does not wear gloves. He does not wear his mask properly or securely since it will occasionally drop below his nose and he will not adjust it for a few minutes. His assistants also do not wear gloves when they were examining her and will touch your face with no announcement. My wife could not tell whether he and his staff sanitize their hands. After dilating her eyes, he sent her out of the clinic and told her to come back after 10 - 15 minutes. I find this particular practice unsettling as it puts the patient at a risk at getting injured out in public since patients have their vision temporarily impaired. I would expect an optometrist to have their patients wait in the clinic. His staff simply kick out their patients while their vision is impaired. I wish I could give zero stars.

Now as a glasses shop I could understand that on some level, but I was going there for an eye exam -- after all, they're also supposed to be opticians, as in medical doctors providing eye healthcare -- remember that part of the job? But of course the money isn't in healthcare, it's in selling poor suckers overpriced glasses and contacts! Look, I don't even have qualms paying a bit more to support real local independent places, but forcing and entrapping customers into paying exorbitant prices is downright disgusting and reprehensible. This is what happened: Several months ago, I went in and paid for a thorough eye exam and made it very clear I only use contact lenses. In fact, I was only wearing contact lenses during the appointment and had to take them out of course for the exam. I also made it clear I'd be traveling in the US very soon for an extended period of time and would need my prescription with me for later purchases. They gave it to me (only because I asked for it and it's required by law), but it was only for eyeglasses, which is NOT accepted for contact lenses purchases. I did not know this, but they of course did. Yet at no point did they mention this to me! Fast-forward a few months later, and I'm now stuck in the US needing contacts ASAP, but cannot obtain them without a brand new exam here. Why? Because shops legally cannot accept eyeglasses prescriptions for contact lenses. The exam costs $160 USD! I called Hakim and the man on the phone explained that the only way to obtain the contact lens prescription would be for them to do a 'contact lens exam', which costs 'double the price of the one you paid for'. I explained that no one ever mentioned this to me! (I'm left wondering why, as I would have paid for it then and now cannot even do this exam as I'm in the US). I answered that I did a very thorough exam including an extra retina exam with special eye drops and measurements, requiring me to stay there longer, and so they likely have all the measurements they actually need. I also said I know they use a basic conversion formula to get the contact lens prescription from the glasses one -- but now all of the sudden claim there is a special 'contact lens' exam?! Look, I've been wearing contact lenses since 13 years old; what b.s, the eye doctors I went to always did the whole exam right then and there and I was able to later buy glasses or contacts afterwards. I told him it was law that they release the prescriptions, and he answered that BC law doesn't require them to give out the contact lenses prescription, only the glasses one, and again, if I wanted both, the exam price would be double. Aha, so clearly, it's all about the money and if not for the government having to force them to being decent and fair human beings, none of us would have any of our prescriptions so that we'd have to be forced to pay their exorbitant prices for glasses! Way to respect your patients and provide 'healthcare'. Again, though, this is the very first time I was told any of this! Why was this never mentioned to me when I was there, especially when I said I'd clearly be needing contact lenses?! Well, I know why: they realized I'd be buying non overpriced contact lenses elsewhere so did not want me to have my prescription. They never even tried to upsell/scam me on the double-priced eyeglass & contact lenses prescription eye exam, I can only guess because they felt I'd be forced to come back to them for contacts and the 'contacts exam' once I realized I couldn't use the glasses prescription for contacts. Except I can't even do that, as I'm in the US now! So now I'll have to pay close to $160 USD just to get examined for contacts, because glasses stores here including online ones can legally only sell you contacts with a contact lens prescription. I already paid $70 at Hakim only several months ago! I feel like I was scammed now -- I cannot use their prescription and am now in a bind! I will NEVER go back to them, and tell EVERYONE to avoid them due to their disgusting treatment and complete lack of sympathy when I called explaining my predicament. This is all a shame because the eye doctor I had for my exam was actually very nice (but even there Hakim cannot get any credit, as they don't actually have their own doctors, but simply hire them as contract workers who barely make a living being paid as low as Hakim can get away with.) I'm now stuck looking up online formulas to convert my prescription on my own, and trying to find a site that will send me contacts without a contact lens prescription. Thanks a lot Hakim, what fantastic eye 'care' place! I'd respect you more if you were at least honest: It's time for you to ditch the optical part, get rid of the eye doctors and just be who you really are: an overpriced eyeglasses and contacts shop.

I didn't remember much about the process, and wasn't sure if I could have my vision examined at a new optometrist without going back to the one my parents had taken me to as a kid. After I made an appointment online, their office sent me an electronic questionnaire which I was able to return by email. It was great to be able to fill out the paperwork at home, which allowed me to jump right to the exam when I arrived for my appointment the next day. I came for my second examination a few months ago, and my experience was just as positive. The optometrist expertly tested my prescription, and the experience was comfortable and enjoyable. I now have my second pair of eyeglasses manufactured from a prescription measured by this office, and it looks just as crystal clear as the first. I am looking forward to returning many more times in the years to come!
