The food was good, but I wonder if they're inconsistent with their pepper. My pad see ew, a 3 out of 5, was good but more spicy than 3s I've had at other places. I like spice, though, and was really happy with my meal. My friends ordered 2/5 and were barely able to finish their meals because it was so spicy. On the other hand, other reviews have mentioned the food being less spicy than normal. That leads me to wonder if there isn't considerable difference depending on who cooks your food. All the being said, I really enjoyed my meal, but friends were disappointed. While visiting from out of town I picked up some Thai food here for carryout to take back to my hotel. The good: food was hot, fresh, fast, and well cooked. Didn't eat at the restaurant but it was nice looking and seemed clean and the staff was friendly. The bad: the food wasn't what I was expecting. I'm using the word bad but that's not fair, it wasn't bad. It was edible and fine - it wasn't awesome or amazing. The rating I'm giving is entirely based on my experience and expectations for Thai food. 3 isn't a bad rating, I've just had really good and even great Thai food elsewhere. 4 stars as an overall rating felt misleading once I got my food. Came here at the last minute for some dinner and I am so glad that we found this place! The service was excellent with friendly staff that consistently checked in on us. I got the pad see ew which is one of my personal favorites and it was delicious. They allow you to pick your level of spice which allows you to tailor your dish to your preference. Found this place on a whim and loved the portion sizes! It's served family style and my boyfriend and I were hungry! We did not know ordering 2 appetizers and 2 entrees with a bowl (huge bowl) or rice would fill us up. The food took a while to come, but I could have been impatient because I was starving. My boyfriend and I wandered over to this cute little Thai restaurant which is only a 10 minute walk from the Space Needle. The portions on their lunch specials were very gracious, and very filling. The restaurant follows the "Thai" rating for spicy. If you're unsure, I'd order your meal less spicy. With that being said, our mouths were on fire. Despite being the only patrons in the restaurant, I feel that service was a little bit slow with the water refills. Overall we had a good visit and it was definitely worth the $! read more

We ordered the Blanket Prawns and they were the perfect mesh of my two favorite things, PRAWNS and CREAM CHEESE. Heavenly! For our main dishes we ordered the Bahn Thai Fired Rice (which is gf), and Red Curry with Chicken. Both amazing, so much flavor and decent sized portions! The atmosphere is very home-y and the staff was readily available. FISH CAKE -oily and chewy. did not taste fresh -it came with a cucumber salad which was delish PANANG CURRY -this was my first time trying thai curry but boy, was i let down... -WAY TOO SWEET. the coconut milk was really strong for me. i added a bunch of chili garlic sauce to mask the sweetness but the flavor was still there TOM YUM -i had the best tom yum back in LA so i was really excited to try this -the spice was there but the sour fragrance was a bit overwhelming. maybe i'm not used to these aromatics but it tasted a lot different from the ones i normally have I really wanted to like the food here but I couldn't finish these particular dishes... read more

Three stars! No, four stars! No, three stars! No, four! No, wait! Bahn Thai is one of the few establishments to make me yearn for a Yelp half-star rating system. Review tool frustration aside, I have been to Bahn Thai on several occasions, most of them lunch, and last night for dinner. Lunch has always been adequate: the food tasty, prices set to lure folks in during their noonish breaks, and the service very adequate. Dinner yesterday evening was fine. Prices were very good: approximately $8.25 for the Chicken Noodle and Chicken Phad Thai entrees we ordered. Stephen's three-star phad thai was assessed as "average." My dish was yummy, though the cucumbers included in the food description were missing. Stephen J.'s iced coffee was "really bad," though he wasn't sure why i.e. old coffee or just poorly made. Staff was efficient--our water was re-filled at least three times--and our bill--our coffee price removed, $8.25 entrees, $3.00 black rice pudding, and total price CHEAP thanks to the Entertainment card--delivered quickly. Lastly, I was unaware of the parking lot, but we were able to snag a spot on Roy, since we arrived at 9:30pm, when many of the Seattle Center area events are ending. read more

I see all these negative reviews and I ask myself: this is the same restaurant that I eat at and/or get delivery from once a week (for almost two years now)? Because the Bahn Thai I know has the best Thai food in Queen Anne. I've tried every other Thai restaurant in QA, and none of them even come close. My favorites are: beef panang curry, prawns garlic and kee mao prawns. The peanut sauce here is pretty killer too. Seriously folks, don't listen to the naysayers--try it for yourself. My friend and I used to eat at Osha Thai all the time when she lived in SF. Then she moved to Seattle and told me she hadn't eaten good Thai in the few months that she'd been living in the city. It seemed unlikely that there was no good Thai, so we looked up a few places and decided to walk the mile or so to Bahn Thai. We even made a reservation just in case, but it was Labor Day weekend and the restaurant was mostly empty at 6:45 on Friday night. We'd been munching on cheese and bread all afternoon, but somehow I still found space in my stomach to down a bowl of Woon Sen Soup (basically ground chicken meatballs with veggies and clear glass noodles) and split the mango sticky rice with my friend. Quick, pleasant service. Solid food. Not the best I've ever had, but for the area (and we looked all over for one close to downtown - we had no desire to venture into International District) it's a great pick. read more

One of the surrealist restaurant visits I've ever experienced. Ordered pork in orange sauce. Was told that I shouldn't order that by the waitress. Fair enough, I assume they know their food better than I; cashew pork was suggested. Sounds good. The food arrives and is introduced as chicken cashew. I mentioned I asked for pork, and the food-bearer scurries off to check. It looks like chicken, exactly the same as my wife's chicken dish. The server comes back and assures me it is, in fact, pork. Alright... I dive in, and it is delicious. But it is chicken, not pork. That did not, however, stop two servers on three more occasions to come round and assure me (without prompting) it is pork. I'm not going to argue the point in the restaurant, but it was chicken... 100% The food was pretty good, if I was local I would probably eat their regularly. Best Thai food in the city, a city full of great Thai food. The service staff are all super friendly even though we always order takeout. Their Pad Kee Mao is so delicious, the spice levels are actually spicy enough, the portion sizes are huge, and the meat and vegetables are always fresh. This place is an old, established Thai restaurant here before all the trendy Thai places showed up. I was taken here for my birthday and the service was friendly and great. The food was excellent and I'm writing this review as I sit here and eat the leftovers from last night. Try the supreme seafood combo. Really cute restaurant tucked away as a converted house. Servers are really polite and helpful. We had the Tom Yum soup, and it was *just* enough for 5 people. It was amazing. A good thing about their menu is that the spiciness is made to order - on a scale of 1-5. We got a 3 and it was awesome - really spicy, even though we eat a lot of spicy food ourselves. As for the main course, the menu is made in a way so that you pick the meat and level of spice for each dish. We ordered Pad Thai, Sweet Spicy Chicken, garlic sauce chicken, a curry (forgot which), and Pad See Iew. All were great - but the Sweet Spicy Chicken and the Garlic Sauce were the best. In my order I ordered a regular ice tea, Tom Yum chicken soup and pad Thai . About 20 minutes in to waiting for my food I had to flag someone down to ask them for my iced tea. Then It took at least 40 mins for my food. I was so tired from a long days of work and so hungry I was too exhausted to complain about a few things other than the long wait. Offers several parking stalls in rear. During our dinner uninvited friends- mosquitos were flying over the table. After several attempts I managed to kill one with my napkin. Asked staff for an extra napkin and explained him why. His answer - "mosquitos like the food". Judge for yourself! More mosquitos kept returning. I guess the food was good for mosquitos. This is no way to spend dinner hour. I was certainly in Seattle and not somewhere in Far East. I wonder who was the health inspector! We had a part of 27 people at Bahn Thai over the weekend. We couldn't spend a lot but wanted to impress our guests from all over the US. Tihs was a perfect place. They were so wonderful. The manager, Tony, was very helpful in getting the reservation and food choices for us. When we arrived, the table was beautifully set in a special room off to the side of their regular restaurant area. It was a busy night because of various cultural events in the area and they were slammed. But Sean, the other manager worked hard to keep us happy. The food was delicious and well presented. I always round down, but not this time. Bahn Thai doesn't deserve to be rounded down. A solid 4.5 stars! My and my gf had the veggie combo ($13.95/person), which included spring rolls, tom yum ___, w/ tofu, phad thai, and something else (tofu w/ broccoli, green beans). Everything was very tasty and fresh tasting. I've never had phad thai before (yeah, I am from this planet; I always get green curry or any one of the 'rama's) and it was delicious......sweet and flavorful! Also, the ambiance was pleasant and subdued, the service was spot-on (you water filler testers out there-these guys pass!) and, as someone noted, there's parking in the back. This review was for lunch on 11/5/14 around 11:30am. Note: Weekday lunch is served from 11:30am to 3pm. A former colleague selected this long time Queen Anne/Seattle Center restaurant for lunch. He gave a me a great tip about the free parking behind the restaurant too. I was curious how this place was since the last time I ate here was in the mid 1980s. Bahn Thai has been in business for 30 years (1984)! We were well ahead of the lunch rush, shortly thereafter large groups of people sporting their building badges were filing in and soon the dining room was full. We started with the soup of the day which was a quasi-flavorless egg drop soup with corn kernels. Former colleague ordered Basil Beef cooked with onions and bell peppers and included two scoops of steamed Jasmine rice ($8.50). The wait staff was accommodating to omit the mushrooms at his request. I ordered from the lunch specials list ($9.75) and selected their version of swimming rama, Pra Ram Long Song, chicken with spinach topped with peanut sauce. This comes with a scaled down entrée portion, one scoop of steamed Jasmine rice, a tiny vegetarian egg roll with dipping sauce, and a scaled down portion of Pad Thai. I ordered only two out of five stars but it must of been lost in translation with the kitchen staff. The chicken was a bit bland and the peanut sauce kind of a gloppy goo atop uninspiring spinach leaves. Egg roll just okay. However, the pad thai was flaming hot. One bite felt like the equivalent of four or five stars at other Thai establishments. Another let down for me was that the food wasn't exactly piping hot, you know fresh from the wok. I'm sure with the lunch rush, kitchen prep essentially were components plopped onto the plate. I ended up filling a takeout box with my plate's contents. It took forever to get the final bill. This is in contrast with their swiftness to keep water glasses refilled and bowls/plates removed. Our original wait person totally forgot returning to claim the bill's payment. I had to flag down another wait person to get his attention instead to enable former colleague's transaction to be completed. I was pretty much there for the dining companion whom I haven't seen in months and whose kind invitation was a highlight of the day. However, the food at Bahn Thai, I'd pass. It seems this formula works with others for the past three decades. I'd recommend walking down Roy a block further west and have a much more tasty lunch and attentive service at Mashawi instead. Disappointingly mediocre. Thai was OK but in a city where we have AMAZING thai & an area like Queen Anne with other, better food choices I was underwhelmed. We started with the spring rolls which took forever to get to us, were filled with boiling liquid & ultimately flavorless. I got the Pad Kee Mao... Again, nothing special. Lots of thai basil and that's about ALL of the flavor. My boyfriend got some kind of meat stir fry & was also not happy with it. Dishes were around $12. Each of us ordered a drink and boyfriend was pleased with his adult Thai Iced Tea. I found the Ginger Martini to be far too bitter & citrusy. Staff would not refill our water and did not bring us the peanut sauce we ordered even though we'd asked for it multiple times. It ended up on the bill and had some confusion with the bill. I wouldn't return because in a city of amazing Thai it seems criminal to settle for terrible service & flavorless food. read more

My friend and I went here last weekend and had a great experience, unless of course you factor in the crappy service. It took them 10 minutes to come to our table and there was only a few other tables dining. And she seemed pained and rushed to have to take our orders... but... the food was worth it. It is thai food with hints of Indian. We started with the Shrimp Spring Rolls with the peanut dipping sauce. SOOOOO good. We split the Pad Thai w/ prawns... the consistency was perfect, the flavor was great... I didn't want it to end. But, the best was the prawn special with avacodo slices, red and green peppers and basil swimming in a cocunut curry broth. If this was on their menu every day, I would be camping out on their front door step to eat it every morning, noon and night. Yummy. Oh yeah, great wine selection.
