We visited this restaurant for lunch and I'm very careful about leaving negative reviews because of the impact it might cause an establishment. Unfortunately this restaurant service was not up to par. The gentleman that took our order basically forgot most of our items . The wait staff tried to compensate as much as possible. They were trying to figure out what our order was . We explained to them that we were missing sides etc . I don't know if he was the waiter or owner to be honest nevertheless it's a poor way to treat customers. He never even came back. Food was good but it didn't come all together and by the end of the meal we were missing items . Service is such an important part of the dining experience and when you are not valued as a customer it leaves you with a very lackluster feeling We will not return . When we got there, the place was still quiet. We placed our orders. Suddenly the crowd came in with a large party sitting in a private section. We had a Greek salad, marinated grilled squid, whitings, and okra. They got busy with the party, and we got busy with our plates. Everything especially grilled squid was so delicious! I recommend everything that we ordered. They have the most authentic Greek taste. We can't wait to return and try some entrees. On this day, we only wanted something quick and small. After finishing the plates, we had to wait for the bill due to their focus on the big party. We had to tell them that the parking was up and we had to leave. Gigantes, Aggorontomata salad, saganaki, and oktopodi rounded out the rest of our meal. It all was very, very good. The place has a very family, oriented ambiance and people are shuffled in and out quickly. The kitchen is open and you can see all the specials on your way in. This is probably one of the best Greek restaurants I've tried in the city. The food was so good! We ordered grilled octopus, branzino, pork souvlaki, and the stuffed cabbage. Honestly, they were all so good that I can't even pick a favorite! I especially loved that the grilled octopus was so tender and lightly flavored and not too burnt. Service itself was not the best. The restaurant was definitely super busy (weekend evening), but we didn't even get to see our waiter until 20 minutes after we had sat down. When she finally came over to take our order, we listed 2 items and then she left us to wait on other tables in the middle of ordering and came back. The restaurant also supposedly gives complimentary dessert, but we didn't get to try it because we were told they ran out for the night. This place is bigger than it appears from the store front. As you walk in the grill and pre-prepared food is on the left. They have a nice back room that is great for large parties. Food was very good. Grilled squid was definitely a must try. Parking was tough but there's public parking around the corner. Quality of food was fresh. Came in really late on NYE at 11:30 pm with my girlfriend and they close at 12. I felt bad because they were about to close the kitchen but they were still able to accommodate us. Although we did have to order ASAP when we got there, I had a good idea of what I wanted to try as I had looked at their menu while my gf was getting ready. We got the grilled calamari and grilled octopus to start off with , then finished with lamb chop and red snapper. My girlfriend especially liked the grilled calamari as it was grilled to perfect tenderness with light seasoning to really allow the squid's flavor stand out. Good portions for the price I thought. I also found the char on the grilled octopus to be fantastic. The red snapper was on the pricier side but definitely worth it for a special night out. Lamb chops were cooked to a perfect medium rare. The rice that came with the entrees was fine, but the fries were incredible. Perfectly fried discs of potato - heavenly. We couldn't finish the entrees and ended up taking some leftovers home but the fries we couldn't keep our hands off. Overall, I'm super grateful that they took us in for dinner because it was late and I it was difficult finding a quality place. Although a little rushed to order, we were still well taken care of. I enjoyed the meal. Service was very good, friendly and accommodating. We were the 2nd table so it wasn't full, but by the time we left, there were another 5 parties that have arrived. Food was good too. The complimentary bread, which were white heros (sliced) with butter, were low quality (cheap italian restaurant feeling). The pita bread that came with the spreads were so much better. They should really not serve that white bread which detracts from being a quality restaurant. The prices were high, the quality is good, but I thought the food was overpriced. We had the octopus which was a small serving compared to other seafood restaurants (it was a bit sad looking). The grilled shrimp was overdone, and they were just regular large shrimp that were butterflied. I would not recommend the beef stew, which is just a piece of beef in tomato sauce. They do serve lunch specials during the weekend, which is a plus. They also offer a cash discount if you pay in cash. Based on my experience at other seafood restaurants in Astoria, I will probably not return to this one. read more

Bahari Estiatorio is my Astoria friend's favorite Greek restaurant, so I had them bookmarked for a while. We went for a Saturday dinner with a friend. They were nice enough to let my friend get seated and wait for the rest of her party. Definitely make a reservation! It gets crowded around 8pm! We ordered fried squid, grilled octopus, okra, grilled whole royal dorado, and baby lamb in tomato sauce. The calamari was so delicious! It was fried to a light beautiful crispy texture and the squid was so tender! This was a great version of calamari! And you get a plate of sliced lemons to add freshness to any of the dishes if you wish. The octopus was tender, juicy and savory. A perfect version of grilled octopus. I just wish there was more. The grilled dorado was tender flakey with crispy skin. It was so good! The lamb was tender, fall off the bone and the tomato sauce was good. The sides were good too. Soft cooked okra and delicious lemony roasted potatoes. I loved the potatoes! We had a great dinner, chatting with my friend! Service was wonderful: our waitress was so sweet. She offered us fresh bread with olive oil. More napkins. The servers were quick to clear our plates and switch them out. After you are done, Bahari Estiatorio offers complementary dessert.
