I had the curry beef sandwich on wheat and a steamed pork bun. The sandwich was amazing and is definitely the best banh mi I have ever had and one of the best sandwiches in general I have had in a very long time. Solid five star sandwich. The steamed pork bun was pretty good but the filling to dough ratio was really off and there was way too much dough and just a tiny filling. I plan to go again and try the steamed buns again in the future and see if they can convince me they deserve 5 stars (I really hope they do). Baguette is probably my favorite sandwich shop in Corvallis. It's a small Vietnamese sandwich place with very limited seating (three tables), so expect to get your food to go. Conveniently, there are benches and picnic tables one block down the street (along the river). I believe Baguette is the only place in town where you can buy bahn mi. They don't have a large menu, but what they offer they do well. Most menu items involve curry, ginger, barbecue or peanut sauce, which, to me, is a great victory for sandwiches. Unless you specify otherwise, all sandwiches come with shredded pickled carrots, cucumbers, cilantro, mayo sauce, soy sauce and mild garlic pepper sauce. They provide fresh jalapenos upon request. You can choose white or wheat baguettes. Every sandwich variety I've tried so far has been excellent (but make sure to hold the mayo, if that's not your thing). The salad rolls with peanut dipping sauce are really tasty. The steamed sweet buns are good too. Not sure about the small egg found in the steamed pork buns though. All sandwiches and salad rolls are around $4, which is a great price for the amount of food you get. The Asian-brand juices, including mango and coconut flavors, are pretty good too. The inside of the business reminds me a little of a stainless steel fortress and features a very clean-looking, open kitchen. The staff is genuinely friendly and pleasant. If Baguette was located closer to OSU I'd definitely eat lunch here every week. They really ought to setup a lunch cart near campus. I don't know what a Vietnamese sandwich is. I've never had one before. So let me just tell you based on my experience. I walked in and stood at the counter and wasn't greeted. I was a little put off by this. Once I engaged the lady behind the counter she was very pleasant. The sandwich descriptions were very basic so I chose one called "Daring", hot pork with BBQ. They didn't have chips but had some weird asian thing-a-ma-bobs which I grabbed. A lot of tables were empty but not due to lack of business, which was brisk, but probably 70% of the folks took their sandwich to go. I opened my "chips" and found some french fry looking things that were light and airy with the texture of rice krispies. They were darn good. A nice young lady brought me my sandwich which was on a hearty wheat roll. I took a look and thought "is dem carrots? Apples? huh?" The pork was cut in little circles and looked kinda gross. Don't let it bother you, the sandwich was totally awesome. All the veggies were fresh, SCORE! It had a bit of a spicy kick but not overwhelming. Again...authentic? I make no claims, but it tasted good. I love this weird approach to food. The price? $4.50 for the sandwich. With the "chips?" Six bucks. A steal! The place was clean and inviting. This is not a fancy place. I had the beef lemongrass baguette. It was delicious and the bread was fresh baked. The beef was topped with a vegetable slaw and a ton of cilantro. Delicious. My daughter had the soup and baguette which was very good. However the sandwich is where it's at! They had one high chair and a booster for kids. I am spending the day at the public library in Corvallis trying to get some work done and I decided lunch was necessary. I decided to try Baguette because it got such good reviews online. The reviews are totally justified...this place was delicious. You go into the restaurant and order at the counter. I ordered the "Wheaties" (which is made with wheat gluten instead of meat). I can't stand cilantro and the chef didn't seem to be bothered at all by my request. The food took probably 5 minutes (if that) to get and it was DELICIOUS. It was a little sweet and a little spicy. The bread has some crunch on the outside and then is squishy-bready-goodness in the middle. The sandwich was a little messy (or perhaps I am just a little messy), so I wouldn't suggest wearing white pants when you go here. Having moved from Portland where Vietnamese sandwiches are everywhere we were overjoyed to find Baguette. The food is authentic, the service is warm & friendly, and the prices are reasonable. We like to grab a sandwich for dinner and head over to the waterfront just 1/2 block away and savor the mix of vegetables, meat and sauces. Most of the clientele are die-hard sandwich fans, but you do get the occasional Subway/McDonalds type that stands in line curling their lip trying to find something they find "familiar" and "comfortable". Been here three times since they reopened and it has been good each time. Lived near Little Vietnam in Chicago for many years and I think Baguette does a pretty good job with banh mi. Food is cheap and quick. Service is always friendly. The shumai bahn is really good. Like the shrimp spring rolls...the veggie need work. Light, crisp on the outside, never tough or doughy. They nail it, as they should since it's the name of the place. I've tried most of the choices, and they are quite good. The mix of flavors is delightful. A satisfying lunch that will fill you up and not leave you wanting a nap. Much better for you than a trip to the fast food place, and about as quick. Wow...I came here for lunch one day with a co-worker who had never tried vietnamese sandwiches. Having just been in Cali and having the best sandwich ever there, this was a pretty good follow up here in OR. The bread, which REALLY distinguishes most good banh mi from ehh or bad ones, did not let me down. The inside was moist and soft and the outside was lightly crispy. Better than many places in Portland imo. The thai tea is great too! A lot of places put wayyyy to much cream in it but this tea was the perfect balance, and seeing other orders being assembled it was consistent. Grab a banh me, thai tea, and head to the waterfront...well let's just say I am glad I re-discovered this place. Just make sure you speak up and get some sort of confirmation from the ladies assembling the orders when it gets busy! This is such an incredible place for bahn mi! I love the chicken ginger with jalapenos (and no carrots! They always remember exactly how I like my baguettes!) I've tried almost all of them, but the chicken holds a special place in my heart. I got the cold cuts sandwich expecting Vietnamese cold cuts, but received bland turkey. The carrots and daikon didn't taste vinegary or pickled at all and there wasn't enough of it.
