So it was my first time here. I will say it sucked because they were out quite a few of their drinks, but other than that I really enjoyed it. The service was friendly. I got the what is it like lumberjack yakisoba kind of stuff. It was so good so so so good. I really liked it. The vegetables were fresh. It's not frozen the sauce on the noodles was to die for the shrimp was cooked perfectly, and the meat was also done very well, and it was nice and tender and flavorful. I do not like giving negative reviews. But while staying in Albany Oregon, we went to Sam City to have dinner. I had heard several good things about it 5 years before from my coworker. Going back to Albany, I was excited that it was still open for business. I looked at the menu and several things looked delicious, but then I read some of the negative reviews. I remember my coworker telling me the service was bad but it's worth waiting for because the food is so delicious. We decided to try it. The ambience is dirty, filthy and straight out of 1971. The food took an hour to come. The waitress was sweet and nice, but we never saw her after she gave us our food. My order was completely not what I ordered and when I tried to find her I couldn't. It was also extremely cold. We thought we got someone else's food, but my husband was correct. He said his food was very bland but not bad. He wishes it wasn't cold. Well, mine was horrible. I don't even know quite what that was. I had a very uncomfortable feeling because of how cold the food was that I shouldn't finish it so I stopped eating. We had to go find the waitress to ask for the check. She charged us the full amount, even though we told her all the issues of the food. That it was cold, it took an hour and mine was nothing that I actually ordered. Not even I'm sorry. No discount, no courtesy and not even letting us have one diet Pepsi for free. Nothing! My husband decided to pay the full amount and give her 20% tip because he felt it wasn't her fault. I would have not done that. She never checked on us once. Well, that night I got very very sick. I do not recommend Sam City to anyone! Try anything else on Yelp search for better Chinese food, Vietnamese food or Japanese food. This restaurant is falling apart and filthy. We were here for a birthday dinner and the owner told us what a hassle it was putting tables and chairs together for our party even though we had called ahead and discussed reservations. I have given this place sooo many chances, but will unfortunately will not be going back to Sam City. I like a few things off their menu, but they REPEATEDLY screw up orders, or leave something out of the bag. I have learned to check the bag to make sure everything is there, and that the order is correct, and tonight was no different. When we discovered that our takeout contained yakisoba, when it was supposed to be beef and broccoli, we asked that they correct the order. The RUDE lady at the counter insisted that we did not order beef and broccoli and refused to do anything about it. The service sucks and chances are you are going to pay for whatever they give you and you will not get money back or your order corrected. Given that this has happened to us the last 3 or 4 times we have been there, I highly doubt we are the only ones. There are too many other options in the area for a business to perform like this and expect to keep the doors open. I give it a couple more years and this place will be out of business. I'm from Portland where there are a bunch of authentic Vietnamese restaurants. Sam City's pho isn't as good as Portland's but it's pretty darn good for the small town of Albany! I've always loved coming to this family owned restaurant for a nice hot bowl of pho and have always had excellent service. However, my recent experience left me wondering if I should come back. I came in with some friends on a Thursday afternoon and it was pretty busy. I haven't been here in quite some time so I was served by a new waitress that I've never seen before. I wanted to like her but she just had bad customer service. The way she spoke to us was unprofessional and had no emotions. It seemed like maybe she just doesn't like dealing with customers because the way she talked to the customers compared to talking to her boss was so different. I just felt like she needs to respect the customers more and be more friendly when dealing with customers. I probably won't be coming back for a long time unless I'm really craving for some pho. read more

It was already pretty busy when we came in around 4:30 pm on Saturday. More help came in at 5. Had the pork and shrimp vermicelli bowl with veggies which was quite tasty and satisfying for me; hubby had pork, bulgogi, egg roll and shrimp with rice which he enjoyed. He also enjoyed a big stein of Kirin beer! Service was friendly and sufficient, even though they were quite busy. A good sign! Pho had the flat pad Thai noodles and the broth was watery and flavorless, meat was dry and old tasting. Even the sides were bad (dried up limes and dirty basil)! Came here with my friend on MLK day for lunch and they were pretty busy (good sign) and we waited around 5 minutes for a table. After we were seated our waitress brought us waters and menus. They have a wide array of dishes, Vietnamese, Chinese, and Korean. I was confused on what kind of restaurant they were. Their foods ranged from pho to orange chicken to Korean BBQ ribs. But I saw the other customers ordering their Vietnamese food (I think this is what they're more known for). I got the V2, vermicelli noodles with pork and an egg roll and my friend got a large bowl of Pho Tai. The wait for the meal was around 15-20 minutes. My partner and I split the gyoza, ebi tempura, and kabli (which came with salad and rice). The kabli was definitely the best dish. Then, we each ordered our own pho. For dessert, we had the sesame balls. Even though we were the only patrons inside, we were attended to only when food was ready to be delivered. My partner ordered one 16oz beer, and I ordered cocktails. After my second one, the server approached me and asked if I was driving. ( a) I only had two cocktails with all the food mentioned above and was barely intoxicated and b) my partner had the keys on a lanyard next to him.) It was extremely uncomfortable, because her question was so unprovoked. We felt unwelcome. Immediately after, we boxed up the rest of the pho and left. I can only imagine she might have asked me that question because they were close to closing (30 minutes 'til) and they wanted their only customers to leave.
