The salsa was so fresh you could actually taste that the peppers were fired roasted earlier the same day. We tried the medium red salsa - delicious, the milder salsa verde - which was sweeter, the queso - the right amount of velvety creaminess and the guacamole - also smooth and tasty. My wife had the fish special which was Wahoo over grit cakes, a chipotle pepper sauce, roasted corn and tomato. She really loved it. I didn't try it because I don't eat fish - but she would have told me honestly if it was any less. I had the Mexican meatball quesadilla (based on recommendations on Yelp). Should have gone with my first choice the enchiladas. The quesadilla was fresh, you could taste that, but way too much meat inside - you had to use a knife and fork because there was no way to pick it up without all the filling falling out. Yes, I am complaining because of too much meat, have as much would have made this quesadilla better - and at half as much meat, it still would have been a good value. I'm going with a 4 star rating because: 1) My wife really thought her Wahoo was really delicious, and 2) the food and salsa was so fresh you could taste it, and 3) I'd bet that when we go back, I'll order something different and like the place even more read more

Really good place for a vegetarian to fill up on healthier fare; opportunities in OBX are rather limited if you don't want fish or a grilled cheese sandwich. I had the Cali burrito with grilled sweet peppers (quite delicious) and mom had fish taco with the catch of the day - she said it was very good, too. Service was prompt & friendly. Last weekend my family & I wanted to grab some Mexican food after doing a home inspection. You've got limited choices when it comes to Mexican at the beach this place, plaza Azteca & some other random restaurant. Last year at this time we pulled into OBX pretty late due to a terrible accident on the bridge and after sitting in traffic for hours we barely made it to the restaurant with just minutes to spare before closing time. When we went in we were pretty sure we would be told they were closing but they were very accommodating and replied that of course we will serve you. What great customer service and they even packed extra tortilla chips for us to take back to our vacation rental! Food was great also. This is hands down my favorite place to eat in the Outer Banks. We discovered it last year on the last day of our vacation. I had the fish tacos and it wad the freshest, most delicious taco I've ever eaten. I've compared every taco to it the whole year and nothing measures up. Back there today and still the same. Best Tacos and Mexican food in the OBX. Been coming here for years. The guac is creamy and fresh. The salsas all having amazing depth of flavor paired perfectly with heat. The chips are good enough to eat plain. The tacos are a great size and more than fair price. This is the first place I go to whenever I visit my GF parents in Duck. (3-4 times a year). This was really really good Mexican! We ordered with a big group and got the Jalapeño poppers, burrito bowls, cilantro and garlic fries, the shredder, tacos, and the shrimp burrito and everyone loved all of their food. Checked this out based on Yelp reviews. Its a bit off the road and easy to go by. The signs don't actually have "Taqueria" on them that I saw. Was not disappointed and will add this to the regular food schedule for our OBX trips. Food was excellent first. Great service and drinks (Stone on tap, fresh mixers,...) round out an overall great experience. Great for our kids and seemed setup to fit a few groups. Definitely worth your time. read more

More like 3.5 stars. Came in here today. I had a shredded beef taco and chicken taco. Not bad. Pretty good priced. I wasn't a big fan of the salsa options, they weren't my style. The mild is basically a pico. I also tried the medium salsa, this one was super hot. If that is medium I would hate to try the hot. Service was okay. Went there for drinks before dinner and seems like a really cool place. The margaritas were fantastic! I got the blackberry margarita and my husband got a lime on the rocks. He normally doesn't enjoy them on the rocks but said this one was great. I read over the food menu even though we didn't eat and it looked to have a lot of variety for Mexican food. Went to Bad Bean with my family and was extremely disappointed. Our server was inattentive and impatient, snatching menus out of our hands and rushing our orders. She only checked on us once, and the hostess ended up printing our check because she couldn't find our server. The support staff seemed frustrated, throwing dishes as they bussed and not knowing where our missing food was when they ran it. Very disappointed with the environment of the restaurant, will not be returning. read more

BEST FISH TACO EVER. I have had a lot of fish tacos, including the incredible ones I make, but Bad Bean has the best. Ala carte for $5. Their Pork Barbacoa taco ($3.50) was also awesome. Complimentary chips and salsa - excellent. If you like REALLY spicy salsa and you have the blown-out sinuses to prove it then go with the Hot salsa. Mere mortals should stick with the Medium. Great stuff. Fresh - real food. Walked in, restaurant was clean and we were greeted quickly. 3 adults and 3 kids. Waitress was knowledgeable, helpful and efficient. We ordered the fresh guacamole and chips -delicious. Kids meals were great, we loved the Carnitas tacos (bigger than expected), liked the brisket tacos and the Chicken Enchiladas. Food was FANTASTIC - almost everyone ordered at least one pork belly taco - DELISH. If they are offering them get one (tacos are ordered a la cart). Brisket and Fish tacos were both flavorful and moist. One in our party ordered the skirt steak and it was tender and served with fresh corn and heirloom cherry tomatoes with nice smokiness to the dish. A must try: The Crab Empanadas.
