    chicken burrito bowl

Second year in a row coming here while staying in OBX. I always get the chicken burrito bowl and my boyfriend gets a burrito. We both love the food it comes out fresh, service is always friendly and quick as well! Love coming here!

The mahi mahi burrito made me gooey in my pants. Most egregiously sized burrito I've ever seen and the flavor was spectacular. 5 BOOMS

I went to this place for lunch with my family after traveling all day and the service was great. You order at the counter and they bring your food to you at the table. They were very quick and polite, considering we were a big group. The food was good, I ordered the shrimp tacos and they were good. Would definitely go back to this place for a quick eat during my time in the Outer Banks!

(This one is a bit from the archives as the visit took place in early June. While a few details have been lost to the sands of time the general gist is accurate.) It seems like every beach town/area worth visiting has a small local taco place where you can go and get simple/non-pretentious food that is worth it even if the prices are a little more than what you would like to pay. A few that come to mind: OCNJ: www.yelp.com/biz/don-jose-rojos-tacos-ocean-city Morehead City: www.yelp.com/biz/dank-burrito-morehead-city Daytona: www.yelp.com/biz/se%C3%B1or-taco-daytona-beach-2 Mexikind 100% fits that vibe. Let me start by saying that usually the four of us can rarely agree on a single place to eat out while on vacation which is why what happened here is so rare. The rare part is that we actually came back a 2nd time during our week in Corolla! Quesadilla (Cheese & Chicken) Tacos (All three meat options were tried) Pork Burrito Daily Special that I forget Chips & Queso First thing worth noting here is that the portion size is respectable. $3.25 for a taco to me is very much beach pricing but the size and flavor are certainly there. So is the ability to customize that hell out of everything. The queso is pricey but excellent. Out of the three main meat options the pork works the best. The chicken while I'm sure it's the healthiest, honestly didn't taste like much. It could have used some extra seasoning. The full menu is not on their website as they do offer a daily special or two that is only available on a dry erase board(s) at the restaurant. If you go: Mexikind is in the Timbuck II shopping complex on the far left side near the Shell gas station. In season if I remember they are open daily from 11-9 or 11-8 and they are closed seasonally I think the one guy said inside from November until the beginning of April. Nothing here is going to blow your mind or make you rethink the taco or the Cali-Mex experience. But the food is solid and I do appreciate the same crew that was on both times we visited being patient with a bunch of tourists who spent way too much time staring at the menu board as if we were gawking at an alien invasion. Also, if you are staying in Corolla, Mexikind is worth a visit just so that you can stay north of the stupidity that is dealing with the traffic in/around Duck. (Both of our visits were weekdays in early June and we had no issues with seating inside. Just about everyone coming inside was doing a take out order. Your experiences may vary.)

    Chips & Queso - $7.99 - pricey

I'm still going 3 stars for this place - technically a 3.5 stars, a half star bump from my first visit - but not enough oomph (yet...) to round up to 4 stars. The half-star increase was for being the only Mexican place around in the Corolla area in the off season. If you're hankerin' for Mexican and in Corolla and don't feel like driving down South to KDH or beyond, this place is it. So I give them that. Really not bashing. Just sayin'. The place was eerily empty when I went there for lunch on a Sunday. Ordered to-go: a chicken quesadilla and an order of chips and queso. Cost me $20+ which, again as I mentioned in my last (first) review of this place, is high even for being in a beach/tourist town. Enjoyed the meal though. The food was fresh and good. The chips appeared to be housemade and tasted fresh, were crunchy and salted just so. The queso was hot even after getting it home (improvement from my last visit - maybe they were just having an off day with queso that day lol). Again, pluses besides the obvious (only Mexican fare in Corolla area during off season) were: easy-to-get-to location (In Timbuck II shopping center across from gas station and Brew Thru), parking no issues, plenty of seating, love the cafeteria style service, the interior is really cute, great dining area set-up (though small and cramped during in-season but to be expected) and CLEAN AND SPOTLESS - they really take care of the inside and it really shows. Oh - and service, including order taker / cashier, excellent - friendly, pleasant and efficient - granted I was the only customer there at the time but the food came out fast. I'm sure I'll give this place another shot and will report back again.

Here's the deal: Antojitos restaurant features both traditional and Mexican-American with a more traditional leaning in ingredients and most importantly, flavor! One thing that makes this restaurant stand out is that the meat here is marinated and cooked in a traditional style including its Al Pastor option. Something many Mexican restaurants don't do or don't do well. This is then mixed with other ingredients that make the food vibrant, including pickled jalapeños with carrots, custom hot sauces, and Antojitos own crema among others. We tried fajitas which were some of the best I've had, Al Pastor gordita, chicken chile relleno, and a torta cubana. All amazing and made every person in my party want to come back during our trip. Portions are large, you will not go hungry. Prices are very reasonable and definitely less than restaurants "on the strip". The restaurant is medium sized with plenty of seating, including tables that can be used for large parties. Service was fantastic and with a smile. Drinks never went dry. If eating in the restaurant look for specials on the boards which don't appear on the menu. Highly recommend, I will definitely be back. We ate at the Powells Point location and it is absolutely worth the little drive if you are staying on the islands. Happy eating and see you there!

Creamy with the perfect amount of spice and plentiful chunks of tomato, it's impossible not to get and devour any time I'm here. We come here often during our time in the Outer Banks due to convenience, plus you can't beat the view. The bar serves beer, wine and an inventive mix of wine based cocktails, and the food is your typical Mexican fare with a few fun local twists like the crab quesadilla and duck pizzadilla (part pizza, part quesadilla). Service is quick, we never wait long for our food to come out here. The boardwalk seating is the only thing that's tricky -- this place can get packed and finding a table that fits your whole family can be challenging during peak hours.
