Stopped on our way out of Corolla after a beach day, we were hungry and looking for tacos, but quickly. That said we walked in and I wish we'd stopped on our way in: the margaritas look real good and they advertise margs to go! Our kids each got cheese quesadillas, they came with juice and chips. We asked for a side of sour cream with each which they added. I got a burrito bowl with their house mild salsa and pulled pork. The pork was good definitely made in house (we make a similar recipe). It's a little on the salty side, but yummy. The dish was a good size (I didn't finish it) and came out fast! My husband got a brisket burrito with the mild salsa also. He liked his food and said he felt like the salsa was good and influenced how he felt about the burrito. Also, this is NC after all so they have Cheerwine on tap which is always a welcome surprise. We left another establishment in the area because we didn't feel comfortable and stumbled across MexiKind. The cashier was warm and inviting. Even asked if I needed a margarita. Made my moment. It seems like every beach town/area worth visiting has a small local taco place where you can go and get simple/non-pretentious food that is worth it even if the prices are a little more than what you would like to pay. Quesadilla (Cheese & Chicken) Tacos (All three meat options were tried) Pork Burrito Daily Special that I forget Chips & Queso First thing worth noting here is that the portion size is respectable. $3.25 for a taco to me is very much beach pricing but the size and flavor are certainly there. So is the ability to customize that hell out of everything. The queso is pricey but excellent. Out of the three main meat options the pork works the best. The chicken while I'm sure it's the healthiest, honestly didn't taste like much. It could have used some extra seasoning. The full menu is not on their website as they do offer a daily special or two that is only available on a dry erase board(s) at the restaurant. If you go: Mexikind is in the Timbuck II shopping complex on the far left side near the Shell gas station. In season if I remember they are open daily from 11-9 or 11-8 and they are closed seasonally I think the one guy said inside from November until the beginning of April. Nothing here is going to blow your mind or make you rethink the taco or the Cali-Mex experience. But the food is solid and I do appreciate the same crew that was on both times we visited being patient with a bunch of tourists who spent way too much time staring at the menu board as if we were gawking at an alien invasion. Also, if you are staying in Corolla, Mexikind is worth a visit just so that you can stay north of the stupidity that is dealing with the traffic in/around Duck. I'm still going 3 stars for this place - technically a 3.5 stars, a half star bump from my first visit - but not enough oomph (yet...) to round up to 4 stars. The half-star increase was for being the only Mexican place around in the Corolla area in the off season. If you're hankerin' for Mexican and in Corolla and don't feel like driving down South to KDH or beyond, this place is it. So I give them that. Really not bashing. Just sayin'. The place was eerily empty when I went there for lunch on a Sunday. Ordered to-go: a chicken quesadilla and an order of chips and queso. Cost me $20+ which, again as I mentioned in my last (first) review of this place, is high even for being in a beach/tourist town. Enjoyed the meal though. The food was fresh and good. The chips appeared to be housemade and tasted fresh, were crunchy and salted just so. The queso was hot even after getting it home (improvement from my last visit - maybe they were just having an off day with queso that day lol). Again, pluses besides the obvious (only Mexican fare in Corolla area during off season) were: easy-to-get-to location (In Timbuck II shopping center across from gas station and Brew Thru), parking no issues, plenty of seating, love the cafeteria style service, the interior is really cute, great dining area set-up (though small and cramped during in-season but to be expected) and CLEAN AND SPOTLESS - they really take care of the inside and it really shows. Oh - and service, including order taker / cashier, excellent - friendly, pleasant and efficient - granted I was the only customer there at the time but the food came out fast. I was so disappointed. I came here 4 years ago when we were last in Corolla. I was so excited to return and the food was not what I remembered. First: the table was dirty as were the benches at the table. When we ordered the woman behind the counter couldn't have been more bothered by us (we had our order all ready. No questions. She just had to be pleasant and push the buttons). When the food came out: my son's tostada was just a corn tortilla, lettuce, cheese and sour cream. I didn't notice it until after he was already digging in that there was no rice or beans on it... which given how my burrito was- may be a good thing. I had the brisket burrito... it lacked flavor and I couldn't find any salsa. The meat was so minced up that it was like cat food. The rice was over cooked and beans were mush. The cheese wasn't even melted in the burrito and it was warm. Not hot, but barely above luke warm. So disappointing and not what I remember the place being. read more

This was rough. Our group ordered an assortment of stuff off the menu and none of it was more than mediocre. I personally got a chicken, barbacoa, and brisket tacos. The meet on all three was shredded meat that tasted like it came out of a slow cooker that was super liquidy. Whoever made my tacos put a MASSIVE amount of cold salsa on each to the point it turned the tacos cold and had to scraped off. I asked for no lettuce and got lettuce. Its definitely a good spot for something quick but for the most part, its pretty bland. My kids got chicken quesadillas which were a good portion size and pretty good so that is a plus. Overall, Mexikind was pretty bland and the margs were overpriced and veryyyy sweet like they were poorly portioned when mixed. read more

On my most recent visit to the Outer Banks we ate at Mexikind Taqueria. First things first the restaurant had no inside bathrooms and the locks on the single bathrooms was broke. Secondly no greeting whatsoever when we entered and the waitress literally screams at you when she brings out your food. I am not sure to be honest if she may be hearing impaired but it didn't seem to be the case. The quality of the food was nothing short of amazing so it compensated for the $130 food bill. Terrible service. Employees do not speak English, we didn't get one of the meals we ordered and we were changed for it. My daughter had a hair in her Nachos. The guacamole had no flavor and the avocado was in chunks. Our friends' order was wrong too and the employee was arguing with them about messing up their order. This review is long over due. My friends and I were at the beach back in October 2020. With Covid and just off season in general, the whole place was a ghost town. Luckily this place was open and more than willing to accommodate for our huuuuge order! I placed the order on the phone and picked it up within 30 minutes. Everything was fresh and tasty. The star of the show was their habanero salsa. That shit was like crack!!
