Thought I'd update my previous (original) review for this place - STILL A 5 STAR. Tried and true Philly Cheesesteaks. No nonsense just delicious, fresh, made-to-order down-home truly authentic cheesesteaks and all variations thwreof. Good value for what you get, subs packed with loads of meat and cheese. No skimping here. Great, friendly and prompt service from a family-run business. Restaurant itself has decent amount of seating, very clean and well maintained. Great for casual dining for large parties. We've never come here for the bar atmosphere but they do have an impressive array of tapped brews. Almost like a hidden gem - every time we've come, we've always gotten a table and there's never been a wait to order (order and pay at the counter, they'll bring your order out when it's ready). Severely understaffed. I placed an online order and 10 minutes after it said it would be ready, it wasn't. The person at the counter said, "Yeah, we just post those times online. They don't mean anything." When I asked how long it should be, his answer was "I don't want to promise so it could be 20 or 30 minutes more or even longer." He told another customer who was complaining "Yeah, sorry, the owners just don't have enough people working here." There was a person standing behind the counter just on her phone and talking to people working. A customer asked her for something and she said "Sorry, I don't work here." So, who knows why she was standing behind the counter! I asked for a refund and his answer was "Sorry, we can't refund online orders." I'm so glad this place continued to stay open throughout Covid. I come to Corolla every year and look forward to getting a Cheesesteak at Philly Steak Subs. The staff are nice (and wearing masks). The establishment is clean. And the food is so good! I've had cheesesteaks at other places where you get more bread than meat; not this place! Stopped in while visiting the beach and really enjoyed the food. The cheeseburger was hot, flavorful, and filling. The onion rings were alright but the steak and cheese sub was amazing. We ordered the steak and cheese with onions, peppers, and mushrooms and were shocked that the sandwich melted in our mouths with every bite. We tried this place on a Friday. Five of us. It was jammed packed. Pros: you can order and pay online. I love this feature. Makes it so much easier. Food order was perfect with zero mistakes. Food review: Mozzarella sticks were pretty good. Steak sub my husband had he said wasn't great. He rated it a 5/10. It was soggy but more imptly it lacked flavor. Chicken tenders and fries were decent. 8/10 My Turkey and Swiss sub was the blandest sandwich/sub I've ever eaten. Zero flavor. Zero taste. I make a better sandwich myself at home. Not only was it not good, it was just Ick. I couldn't finish it. I'd rate it a 2/10 Gallon of sweet tea tasted like regular tee. Couldn't taste one drop of sugar in it. If you want sweet tea go to food lion because this tasted like unsweetened. I wasn't overly impressed. read more

Very sad to see our favorite Philly steak place has fallen into such disrepair. It needs a good cleaning and we noticed the sanitation rating was like 86. The signs are covered with tape, the front display has some type of film on it so you cannot see the meats. It made me wonder if they used Boars Head or SteakUmms. If I could give this place more than five stars I would. I have been here about ten times and have never been disappointed. I always recommend it to anyone I know that comes to Corolla. First of all, their staff is always extremely friendly and helpful whenever I visit. There is also very rarely much of a wait time but obviously that changes a little due to busyness. Second, their food is absolutely amazing. Their cheesesteaks are very very delicious. I used to get one every time I went, specifically the Ranch Cheesesteak. I decided to switch things up recently and have been ordering a cold Turkey and Cheese Hoagie. The turkey is sliced very thin and piled onto the sandwich. It's the best turkey sandwich I have ever had from anywhere. I also always get Ranch Fries when I go, they are fries seasoned with ranch seasoning and are so good. A 7 inch is enough for a meal as it left room for dessert or a beer. The place was out of fries at 630 and I heard them saying the onions we're low so be patient. It took 30 mins on a Friday night in June. Sit at the bar and enjoy a draft beer while you wait. They have some local and I enjoyed the Hatteras Red. I was a little hesitant to try this place because I am not the biggest fan of Philly Steak Subs, but upon checking out the menu I found they offered a lot more than just subs which was a great thing for me. The atmosphere feels very much like a small sports bar. There is limited seating so it is not good for a group. We went there around 11 am and there were only a few booths left. It is a order and get a number and wait type of place. We only had to wait about 15 minutes for our food to come out. I had the double cheeseburger. As a side note if you order any type of hamburger it will take longer to come out than a sub. The double cheeseburger and fries were one of the best I have had. The portion is very big. The only real issue I had with this place is how pricey the place was. We only got a cheeseburger, fries, a sub, and a bottle of water and it was around $30. Also, they do not just offer tap water only bottle water which does not make sense to me. If you are looking for a quick lunch that is a little more pricey, but good then you should check this place out. read more

If you are from the Philly area you already know that anything, or anybody from the south claiming to be a "Philly Cheesesteak joint" you are gonna say " yea right " ! We come to find out that owner and his wife moved from S.Philly to here and opened this up. Ok now I feel at home, and they had whiz to back it up.. the appropriate kind The menus had all different kind of cheesesteaks they make including one called "The Whiz Wit " we all know what that is in case you don't whiz= cheese , wit= onions (knowledge bomb ). All kinds, even chicken cheesesteaks, pretty creative and they all sound good and tempting. When ordering fries go with the cheese fries, nothing like a nice ladle full of whiz to cover those little guys up. Myself I went with the bacon cheesesteak wit , and I will say this was a great choice. Ample amounts of bacon (for the bacon fans) mixed in with the meat chopped just right and cheese melted all in with the onions adding more flavor to it. Another thing that is good is their wings, great flavor to it, nice little zest to it, nice sized wings. Place was kinda busy seeing and us coming thru the door really made his night with our order. Also the prices were up there in price , 10 dollars for a 12" (large) and 7 something for a 6" (regular). We all went with the large , because in our eyes that is the regular. In all for OBX and N.C. this is a great spot, a touch of Philly for the people who crave a good cheesesteak. This place will be visited again when we come down for that crave.
