Listen, this is a dive bar. As long as you're walking in here with the right expectations, you won't be disappointed. Is the bar going to be a little sticky? Almost definitely. But the service is friendly, the prices are right and it stays open later than anything else in the Outer Banks, so if you want to have yourself a night this is the place you're going to end up at. We were coming from the beach. I am from out of town . We actually stopped because we wanted a hotdog . They do not sell hotdogs . However I looked at yelp pictures and convinced my group to try it based on yelp pictures. We loved everything we tried except the chili . The service was exceptional. The ambiance is nice . The crab dip was a perfect 10/10. I would drive another 40 minutes from where I'm staying to eat that. read more

It was an amazing experience, the service was fantastic, rite away we got a spot at the bar. We met the guy who's in charge of preping the oysters and the shrimp, very friendly young man. We enjoyed the oysters, they we're served over ice with horseradish and vinaigrette. We also order the fried Calamari was delicious, not over cooked or dry. The shrimp was also a good portion and the sauce was tasty....Yummy! We had a pleasant experience. I highly recommend this restaurant. For sure we are coming back!! read more

My friends and I stopped by Sundogs for our last dinner in outerbanks and it ended up being the highlight of our trip! The service was awesome and they still offer free refills on fountain drinks which is elite. The waiters were super nice and gave us their takes on the best items of the menu. The food was absolutely phenomenal. My personal favorite was a tie between the prime rib egg rolls (super crispy and juicy) and the Asian style bbq ribs (super tender with amazing sauce). Unreal. I have never in my life left a tip under 20% because I serve and bartend myself. I went to Sundogs @11:45AM, my bartender, Clay, was just the most uninterested guy who didn't seem to give a d*mn about anyone he was waiting on. The restaurant was practically empty, me by myself, a couple at the bar, and two other tables. I ordered 2 dozen Raw Oysters- they smelled fishy, I ate them all and hope I don't get sick. Whatever cook shucked the oysters, they need to be retrained. Every other Oyster that I ate, I got a bunch of shell in in my mouth from. The shells didn't even seem like they were cleaned!! I have eaten ridiculous amounts of Oysters in my life and am from Upstate New York where they aren't even as fresh, and I have never felt regret after eating Oysters. I came to this bar with the intent of eating 6-8 dozen! I ordered a dozen steamed Clams after and was only more disappointed! Lastly ordering the Crab Dip which was the least disappointing but still nothing good to say. I was so disappointed that I downloaded Yelp! This is the FIRST bad review I have EVER left for a restaurant/bar!! That should say a lot! The cherry on top after the horrible service & bad food was seeing the line cook through the swinging kitchen door, stuffing his face with french fries while he was making someone's food. Once again, I've served and bartended for 7 years, never have I been so disgusted at an establishment or feel the need to tip less than 20% or especially write a poor review. We stopped here while on vacation in OBX. We arrived at the restaurant right at 2:35. After 5 min of standing there, one of the (3) waiters came up to us and said "Got here just in time, we stop seating at 2:45 for lunch". He claimed that it was written on a board out front, but someone put 5:45 instead of 2:45 which caused several people to come in after us. All of which were turned away in a rude manor might I add. The waiter who sat us was extremely frazzled and a little rude. He didn't even come back to check on us. ANOTHER very nice waiter walked up and asked us had our order been taken yet; seeing as how we didn't even have waters. I don't remember his name but props to him. The restaurant itself has a nice set up, and I think there is live music during dinner. We had the kimchi egg rolls as an app, they were okay. I had the tacos. The fish could have been seasoned better in my opinion, but the pickled onions and pico de gallo were DELICIOUS. My mom had the prime rib, which she loved. And my boyfriend had the fish and chips. His fish was very seasoned, but I think that has to do with the batter it was fried in. I didn't get any pictures of our drinks but they were made pretty well. The food was very bland. We each got a variety of menu options (i think they are trying to cover too many item and that is affecting their quality). The service was also lacking. The vibe of the restaurant was very beach bar vibe but it was quite loud even with it being the off season. I recommend they focus their menu down. Stop servicing alot of frozen food items and make their own fresh. Also check on ur heat lamps cause my chicken was so dry and burt it clearly was under a heat lamps for quiet a while. I also recommend removing the tails from the shrimp if your going to mix it into a seafood pasta. read more

Walked in and staff immediately greeted us and said hello and were just happy we were there. - Now not everyone may want that much happy in their server, but if you are willing to GIVE a smile, one will be returned. The Bartender was extremely rude and should not be working in a restaurant bar at all. He was agitated from our first interaction. Telling us no one would be able to serve us drinks from where we were standing by the bar seats. Then he stated this will be on one check. Not asking. Demanding. Made the drinks and then slammed them on the bar. The restaurant was full so we were waiting for a table so we walked away from the bar to allow others to go to the bar. We went to stand outside to enjoy the nice weather while we wait. Shortly there after the door flys open and the angry bartender is yelling at us, "you all definitely can be outside with drinks, you have to come back inside". We're visiting and weren't away of any restrictions. We returned inside finished our drinks and left. Stopped in with yesterday with my elderly mom during an impromptu visit to OBX. Didn't realize Sundogs was closed; the door was locked so we just started to walk away. But someone - not sure if it was the owner, a chef, or a server - unlocked the door and invited us in. Had just a great dining experience before we headed home to Chapel Hill NC. Had a solid experience here. Went early since we had a lot of kids. Food was above average all around, tried most of the appetizers since we were such a big party and we thought the mussels were the best. Wasn't the best food we've had on the island but it's much better than you'd expect in a strip mall bar. The one set back id say is they were out of several things. I work on a food podcast so typically features 4-5 star restaurants so I feel this is a fair review The teriyaki chicken was ok , rice was gluey. The egg on top didn't do anything for it. Wife liked crab legs and got a side of coke slaw which was creamy as she likes it. Grandson liked the shrimp and fries. 5 of us went here for a lunch meal. We decided to order off the kids menu (4/5) of us since it was stated to us that the portions were quite big. We ordered the meals and went on with our meal. When the food came out, the "owner" was extremely rude to us and stated "your server is still new but you cannot NOT order off the kids menu since you girls clearly are not over 65 or under 12 years old." With that being said, the kids menu had no limit on the "12 and under age limit". We told him that and he stated "we have different menus for our offseason." We went to Sundogs after coming off the beach, was not expecting to fall in love with the BBQ Macaroni & Cheese ($20 & worth every cent)... but we did, this dish may not sound amazing but trust us its addictive!!! Creamy white cheddar homemade macaroni in a large bowl, hidden underneath is mouth watering bbq, topped with bread crumbs, scallions & red pickled onions deep fried in a thin crunchy batter... the onions make this dish... I ordered bbq tacos which were very good too, but ate my boyfriends bbq macaroni and we both didnt finish it all.... I cannot wait to go back to the OBX to eat here again! Covid19, of course expect to wait to be seated as it's not a large place, but service was great and the restaurant is clean, all employees were wearing their mask. Night of 9/19/22, watching the Eagles-Vikings game, joking to other Eagles fans with the Kirk Cousins "You like that?!" chant. Said owner tells me to act live I've seen a game before, then spitefully walks by me and yells out "You like that?!" To me, of which I replied "Sure, it was a good tackle." I walk over to the other Eagles fans to ask if this is how this owner typically is.... This guy gets in my face, his spit going in to my eyes. I tell him to back away, and that he spit in my face. He verbally agreed that he spit in my face, then kept yelling to get out. I told him I would leave when I finish my beer, 3/4 gone and drinking it, then he hits it out of my hand. Long story short, service absolutely sucked, Owner is an asshole who thinks the law doesn't apply because he "knows all the cops," and is downright disrespectful to tourists of this town. Never been here before. Specifically asked the server if the Tuna Poke Bowl was any good...since it's $18. She stated, "it is excellent!" NOPE! Definitely not "Excellent". Maybe "good" at best. First off, the bowl is small. Like Appetizer size small. Actually, it is maybe an 1/2-3/4 inch wider in circumference than the tea cup the Coleslaw came in (which was actually really good). If you're from "up north" you will greatly surprised by the size of this dish. Especially at the $18 price tag. I get it. Small things can be awesome too. I'm half Japanese (bottom half). And, I get surprised looks all the time, following a great performance ;). But this was not one of those times. The tuna, which was maybe a 1/4 pound at most, was doused in soy sauce. Probably to kill the unfresh flavor (I can't think of any other reason to ruin the flavor of fresh raw tuna). The rice? Ugh. Not any variety of Asian rice I've ever had. Dry and mealy. Like most rice from the US. As a general rule: You have to use a sushi seasoned grade rice with this. Just packing rice in a bowl next to seaweed salad doesn't work. And, where's the edamame?? The worst part of this poke bowl was the price. I felt robbed. I'm sure the Sundog has great items in their menu. Don't let this review in anyway steer you to a different location. The fries were excellent! Just don't order the world's smallest poke bowl from Sundog. Oh, my daughter told me to tell you that her Chicken Tenders were "yummy". read more

First things first, the service here is lacking. Our waitress took 6 out of 10 people at our tables drink order and walked away. She never really came around to our table to check to see if we needed anything. We noticed she was talking up a storm to people at the bar and was even texting on her phone a few times. When we were done with our meal, it took almost 20 minutes to get our check. The lobster Mac and cheese was salty, but otherwise lacked real flavor. Not a fan. Oysters looked and tasted fresh though, so that's a plus. They also have a touch tunes player here, so I played a song. I noticed they turned on their own music to drown out the song I chose which ended up being a waste of my money. This is our go-to place. Never disappointed. It looks like a dump from the outside; not much better on the inside. But service is quick and the staff are friendly-- definitely more friendly with the locals, but I get it, you have to keep the locals coming back.
