Fried shrimp with Mac and garlic green beans
    Jackie M.

This is by far the best breaded shrimp I have ever eaten and that says a lot because I'm from Hawai'i. (Sorry HI ) it did get extremely busy so go at off peak hours of lunch and dinner. The green beans had a very strong garlic taste and I couldn't get enough. The Mac was a bit dry so I give that a 5 but everything else was a 10/10, including the staff.

A large open space with ample parking, this place probably jumps during the busy season! We received a friendly greeting and were seated immediately. We had the cheese curds, which were served with a Jamaican Jerk aioli, they were tasty! I had the shrimp po-boy, it was ok, the remoulade wasn't exceptional, so I added some of the jerk aioli to spice it up. I'd recommend adding some hot sauce. Mac n cheese was a decent side. My son had the pickle brined chicken sandwich, which he enjoyed. It want off the charts good, but it was above average.

Fantastic oysters! We had lunch here on a rainy Tuesday on our way to The Wright Brothers Memorial and what a tasty stop this was! Everything was really good....cool, laid back beach atmosphere and fabulous service. Alyssa was VERY attentive! Had nothing we did not like! I'm sure during season they are crazy, but lunch after Labor Day worked! A cool stop for sure!

Our first time trying here while we were in OBX. The food was really good especially the mashed potatoes and fried shrimp. The batter was light and seasoned well. Everything was great. We returned again the next day with some friends and sat in the dining area. Service was good even though the second day was busier. Nice place to also watch a game. Would definitely return again when we're back in OBX.

So impressed with the food, drinks, and service here! We actually ended up liking it so much we went twice within a three day span. Service is fast and both times we ate here we were sat immediately. Their menu has a lot of great options and everything we tried was super yummy. The Cajun cheese bites are a must for appetizers! The orange crushes were also great. Definitely recommend! Can't go wrong with anything on the menu.

    Fried oysters and side salad

The fried oysters were sooo good. They were honestly perfect. I just got the oysters and a salad, and it was fresh and delicious. The service was very good and my waitress was very sweet.

They are decked out in a home alone theme for the 12 bars of Christmas, and they nailed it! We went for dinner inside at the bar. The service was great. We split the turkey sandwich with stuffing, goat cheese, cranberry sauce, and arugula. It was served on grilled sourdough and it was amazing, I wanted to go back and eat it again, but didn't have time. It is syrup with warm homemade chips. They have a fun holiday drink menu as well. I loved the filthy animal! It tasted like alcoholic butter, beer. If you were in the area, definitely hit them up!

This is the mahi mahi sandwich
    Patrycja L.

The mahi mahi sandwich (pictured) was good but the bun was dry and my mahi mahi was 2 oz too small. Their alcoholic drinks, may just be me but i can barely taste the alcohol. I had to the peach spritz and weekend at Tito's. My boyfriend had the hangover burger. They didn't ask him how he wanted it. He said it was alright. So as a summary this place is lack luster but for the price, i would not come back.

The new location gets 2 thumbs up!! This was the first time here and I'm so happy that it's larger and the layout is open and fun. We sat at the bar and really enjoyed it. Great server and best meal, I had the fried shrimp dinner, with mashed potatoes and green beans. The shrimp were cooked and breaded perfectly, juicy and dipped in their signature sauce made them even better. The mashed potatoes were the best I've had out!! Highly recommend, a very nice variety on the menu too.

Very nice, clean restaurant with lots of TVs for watching whatever you like. The gravy fries, oysters, and local tuna were excellent! I highly recommend this establishment.

    Do we need reservations?

They do not take reservations. During season it will be busy but we have normally only had to wait 30-45 minutes. Just get a drink at the bar while you wait. Bar seating is full service and first come first serve. We have eaten there plenty. Amazing… Read more

For the first time ever, we had some disappointments at Black Pelican. We have lunch or dinner…read moreduring most of our twice-per-year visits to the area. It has always been good, and we definitely won't let this deter us from returning. Ms T had her usual Shrimp basket lunch. The issue was that the shrimp were not cooked through. They were still translucent. We totally understand not wanting to overcook shrimp, but these were not quite done. On the bright side she commented on how good the slaw was. I have been on a kick to try barbecue at restaurants that are not barbecue joints per se, to see if I can find some hidden gems. For example, both Sam & Omie's and Wanchese Marina serve a good barbecue sandwich. Black Pelican, at least on this day, does not. I must say, the serving was huge. This was more than enough for two meals for me. The barbecue was dry and not well flavored. The texture and flavor was more like dried out beef that has been over-roasted. This is not something I would order again here. All that being said, I am leaving the rating for Black Pelican as it is because we have always had good meals here. I accept that it can't be 100% perfect every time and sooner or later we will run into something that is less than stellar. We will continue to return. I just know this not where I will have barbecue and we are sure the shrimp thing was just a one timer.

Kill Devil Hill, NC…read more Good Service and Fantastic Onion Rings, but everything else was just terrible. Oyster Po-Boy was pretty much inedible. And the $8.50 Pie we thought we were ordering was average at best. I say, "...we thought we were ordering" because the tags were mixed up in the Pie Case at the front. We were a group of 8 and really no one cared for their food... shame on us for taking a recco, and not reading the reviews. Guy F should be ashamed of himself.
