If I could leave 0 stars I would. I visit the outer banks 5-6 times a year in the summer alone and this was my first time visiting this establishment. Open signs were on and google said open until 11:30pm so myself and two friends walked inside at 2:45pm and found a seat at the bar to pass time while we waited for check in time at our house. We sat patiently, waiting to be greeted, while the apparent owner walked past us several times making eye contact but not saying a word. The first sign that the bartender (later to learn he is the owner) was in the weeds, was the sweat pouring from his forehead while he cut a lemon, put it in his bare hand, and walked it to a table to put it on their plates. But, when he finally walked up to us at 2:53pm he greeted us with, "snuck in at the buzzer did ya?" We chuckled thinking it was a joke and asked if they were closing to which he snarkingly responded "we close between 3-4:30 everyday but with the 3rd day in a row running lunch, people forget that." My friend politely said, "if you don't care for our business we would be happy to leave." To which the owner responded, "well if you are going to start that you can just get out right now." We all stood up to leave as he told us we could go back to "Pennsylvania or Ohio or where up there you are from." I have worked in restaurants, bars and some form of customer service my entire life and have never, ever, experienced such a level of disrespect; and especially not from an owner of an establishment. I may not be a resident of North Carolina, but to visit the Outer Banks at a mere hour and a half drive countless times a year and how welcomed we are by most of the residents here, makes me feel like a local every trip. If you are traveling to the Corolla area of the Outer Banks, I HIGHLY recommend you go to, quite literally, any of the other fine local establishments and skip right over Sundogs. I understand we all have bad days but even the lowest baseline level of customer service was absolutely missed here. All the owner had to do was politely say, "I am so sorry but we are actually not accepting new guests until we re-open at 4:30pm tonight. I've been coming to Corolla for over 30 years with my family and have been coming to Sundogs specifically for about 15 or so of those years. I have to preempt this by saying that I bartended for 9 years in high volume bars and my husband had worked in the restaurant industry for several years as well. We are pretty experienced with what it's like to work in a restaurant. With that said - Sundogs a sports bar in a tourist town so obviously you aren't going to expect stellar service but we've always had a good time there and enjoy the food and drinks. The server we've usually had is never ultra friendly or happy but is nice enough I guess and we've kind of just gotten used to his personality. We went there this past Sunday to watch the football games. Knowing how busy it is there on football Sundays my dad got there as they opened in order to get us a table and was immediately greeted with a bad attitude by one of the servers. We sat at the bar and literally never saw one smile given to not just us but to any of the other guests sitting at the bar, unless they were personal friends with the bartenders. Before the games started my husband asked what games would be on in front of us and we were told the team we wanted to watch was going to be on both screens. Once the games started it was not the case and a different team was on. When my husband asked where the game and asked if there were a lot of fans of that team playing he was he was told no, there are a lot of fantasy football fans. Look - we both play fantasy football so we get it, but if you tell a guest that a certain team is going to be on the tv, then that's what should be going on. Our drinks were slow and always from us asking for another, never from anyone asking us, and again, never a smile or a "your welcome" to our plentiful and sincere "thank yous" every single time. We ordered our food which did come pretty quickly and was good as usual (especially the coconut shrimp - yum). Once it looked like all of our food was served my 73 year old mom sweetly asked if the coleslaw she had ordered was coming to which one of the bartenders responded "I only have two hands". We got our check after the games were over and it was obvious it was the incorrect bill as it was way too low for a party of 5 who had lunch and drinks. When we told one of the bartenders the bill was not ours - again the response was pretty stoic - no smile, no thank you for letting us know, no nothing. When you go on vacation and you find a place you enjoy going to and look forward to going to every year and have an experience like we did, it kinda breaks your heart a bit. We had very realistic expectations of what our football Sunday would be here. We knew it would be busy and the staff would most likely be overwhelmed but dang - would it kill them to pretend a *tiny* bit like they cared at all about the experience their guests were having? We will never be back as it was certainly *that bad*. Why would anyone want to spend money to be treated poorly when there are other options available that are much better? I hope management sees these reviews as it certainly looks like this is a common experience at their restaurant. read more

Pretty decent place, was able to accommodate our party of 16 at 6:00PM on a Wed night. Typical seafood but also burgers and salads. We arrived to OBX on Saturday and were looking for a place to grab some drinks/lunch before check-in at our house. We had two cars and ~10 people. One group arrived first and was told we couldn't have a table until the whole party was there (plenty of tables available). Didn't make a fuss about it and sat at the bar to wait. Bartender hits us with a standard "can i get you guys a drink", to which we respond "no we'll just do waters for now" and the bartender responds very rudely (not sarcastically, we are a very sarcastic group) "well that's a drink". We ignore this and the other group finally shows up and we're able to sit at our table. Waiter takes some more drink orders. As he is writing our drink orders, I interrupt with a brief "can we also get some crab dip" to which we get no response (verbal or a nod, nothing). NBD at this point still, happy to wait and see if waiter brings it or ask again if necessary. Drinks come, waiter starts taking orders, I order a salad and ask "can we also get some crab dip" since we didn't get a "your crab dip will be right out" or any confirmation that the crab dip order was received or acknowledged. Crab dip 1 shows up. Food shows up. Food is fine, exactly what we expected from a tourist town bar, so no complaints (hard to mess up salad and burgers). Half way through food, crab dip 2 shows up. We politely explain we already received our crab dip, and the plate runner brings it back to the kitchen. Waiter comes up 5 minutes later with crab dip 2 and sets it in-front of me, insisting that i ordered a second crab dip. I tell explain we didn't get confirmation that crab dip was received and that we only needed /wanted a single crab dip. Waiter pushes back more about double-ordering and insists the problem is my fault I explain this could have been avoided with a normal human comment like "two crab dips?" When I "ordered" the second one, to which he throws up his hands in frustration and walks away. I was really just looking for a 'my bad' or any acknowledgement that the interpretation of the order by the waiter was weird or wrong, but got a lot of sass for no reason. Wouldn't have cared at all about the extra dip if it weren't for the shitty attitude. Overall food was a 3/5 service was a 1/5. read more

IF I COULD GIVE THIS PIECE OF SHIT RESTAURANT ZERO STARS I WOULD. Me and my friends stopped for lunch on the way into our vacation and we are all 25 years old. Literally. And they wouldn't take OUR REAL Maryland IDs, and then tried to confiscate 2 of our licenses which are real. Maryland changed their entire license in 2017, so anyone who turned 21 prior has a different ID. Learn who you're serving instead of being rude and ignorant. The manager was so convinced she was right and thought she was so smart when the ID was absolutely real. It almost would have been worth calling the police to have them run our licenses just to prove them wrong (idiot) but it wasn't even worth our time. Can't smoke inside, but vaping substances isn't a problem. If your not local, don't go after 9pm. Off duty employees hang out. Day off employees hang out. If they don't like your choice in music in TouchTunes, they just shut it off and turn on Sirius or something. They get to you when they get to you or ignore you, unless the owner is there. I've been here many times over their years in season and out. It's been ok, but I hope their new neighbors put them out. Hire and accept crappy staff, you get what you deserve. The food is so so. Most of the time just slapped together. Late night menu isn't much. Late night is all fried, which is understandable, but tastes like overcooked dirty oil in the fryers. read more

Atmosphere was as expected (it's a raw bar...with emphasis on bar). The wait staff were all super friendly, and we enjoyed the relaxed feel of the restaurant. The hush puppies were actually quite unpleasant. They were very dry and it almost seemed like there was a mixup with the ingredients. They were dense with very little flavor and left you wanting a drink. The honey butter served with the hush puppies was good though! The fish tacos are "create your own", in that they give you taco shells and you have to make your own...which was totally fine. They give you plenty of fish and beans to fill the tacos, with a bit left over to eat with a fork. The "blackened" fish was not as seasoned as I would have liked, but that could be my personal preference for spicy food. The fries were really good! Our server had great manors but found himself doing everything and that pulled away from us receiving service such as drinks and cleaning our old plates from our table. The food is always good, kinda unexpectedly! What we love is the kicked back, local atmosphere, along with the ability to play pool and have a little fun. They easily accommodate large parties and satisfy all the varying tastebuds with delicious food. One of our favorite dishes are the mussels! Sundogs is a place that when we're in Corolla, we ALWAYS pay a visit to once or twice. This is the only decent bar scene we have found short of driving all the way out to Duck. Our latest adventures at Sundogs were for the USWNT's World Cup final. We had a group of 14. Amazingly enough, with the place SUPER crowded, we were able to nab a gigantic table near the front of the bar. Not sure how, but it worked out for us. The food is pretty good for a bar. IMPORTANT NOTE: THE HUSHPUPPIES ARE LEGIT. They have some good seafood and do most other things pretty well also. The drinks aren't overly expensive and they have deals lots of the times. Also, always have $1 jello shots. Not sure how alcoholic they are but hey, they're fun to do. They also have Karaoke a 1-2 times a week during the summer when we're there and a trivia night. This year they had live band karaoke. I wasn't as much of a fan as the DJ karaoke because of the song selection, but it was still good. For a bar near the beach, it's a great place to grab some food and drinks if you have a big group or if there's a sporting event you want to watch (Tons of tv's). We arrived at 6 pm. We should have followed our instincts when no one acknowledged us for the first 15 minutes. But we stayed and it was a mistake. The staff seemed light but there weren't a lot of people in there. Every now and then a bartender would emerge from the kitchen and served a table. But it took me going to the bar to get someone over to our table. He took our drink, app and main course order all at once and, quite literally, disappeared for 45 minutes. Not one beverage refill, not one update on our order... nothing. I don't think I even saw him. Maybe it was a long smoke break. Maybe he snorted a few lines. But when he did emerge, he almost seemed shocked we were still there. After he served a few tables that arrived after us, I signaled for him to come over. He walks up and says "I'm sorry there is something wrong with our printer. What did you guys order again?" Another 20 minutes went by before we got our first bite of food which we were told were taken from another table's order so we could at least get something.
