Came here for Mother's Day this year and was not disappointed. We had been here almost 12 years ago when my boss treated us to a fine dinner since my husband was working on his beach house. Good but pricier than it should be for the size of the dishes. The cheese plate came with one tiny piece of hard cheese and one tiny piece of soft cheese. We added the charcuterie which was 4 small pieces of salami and 4 small pieces of prosciutto. The mixed grill dish was 2 tiny cubes of tuna and 2 shrimp. Everything was good but such tiny portions that you had to order sooo many dishes to fill up. Drinks were good. Staff were nice and explained all the dishes to us. We ordered the soup and crab cakes to start out, both were good but also micro sized (crab cakes). I was so hungry that I asked the waiter for bread which I had to pay for lol! Although we have been coming to Duck for a number of years this was our first time in Corolla, and our first visit to Metropolis. Everything was delicious! My wife and I ordered 4 plates to share (yes, small servings but it calls itself a Tapas Bar so that was expected by us). King Trumpet Mushroom Bisque with Crab was delicious...thick, creamy with a mix of great flavors. Mixed Grill had shrimp and tune with a great cumin and garlic yogurt sauce. The scallops were cooked perfectly with a very light blue cheese cream sauce. And finally a flight of chocolate candies with very interesting flavors...everything from dark chocolate with a caramel flavor to chocolate infused with a beaujolais flavor. So I had made a reservation for this restaurant on Tuesday but we missed it. I'm glad we did because one of the guys in our group would've made a big fuss about the serving sizes. The next day my husband and I tried to go to La Dolce Vita but there was a 2 hour wait!!!!! So we decided to come here...... It seemed like there were just 3 servers, one who seemed to be the owner/manager, the bartender and the chef. I got the virgin strawberry martini that tasted more like canned pineapple juice! I had been looking forward to tasting the actual strawberries! We ordered the soup of the day which was a cream of asparagus with crab. This had no seasoning at all! By the time the salt got to us we had already finished it! There was barely a hint of asparagus in it so that was disappointing. The appetizer special was crab Rangoon with a sweet and sour sauce which was pretty good, though my problem with anything like this is always that the crab is hidden in a ton of cream cheese! We got the trumpet mushroom and ricotta raviolo was quite disappointing because I couldn't really taste or see any mushroom in it! There were just two thin raviolo in the plate! Filling is the wrong term for the amount of it in the raviolo! It was more like it had been spread on thinly prior to it being covered by another pasta layer! And needless to say, we were still hungry after this so I ordered the duck confit and mushroom risotto which again was a measly serving and and although there were flecks of mushroom in it didn't have the richness of taste you expect from a risotto! The raviolo and duck confit with mushroom risotto were both what they call 'larger' tapas so I shudder to think how small their 'small' plates actually are! So basically what I would say is don't bother wasting your money here and please go someplace else! I'm just going to go back and have leftovers from dinner last night! read more

The crab Rangoon was excellent, crispy wrapper and tasty filing. The brioche had a crispy crust and a delicious middle. The Thai shrimp with Chinese black rice was delicious and the asparagus soup was excellent with bits of crab throughout. The bartender was friendly and greeted us as soon as we entered He explained the menu and gave us their nightly drink specials, which sounded amazing! While drinking, we ordered their Tuna Tartar to snack on and it was outstanding! Really enjoyed dinner here. It's pricey, but not crazy, especially for the tourist area increase. If you're really hungry perhaps go elsewhere - I had two tapas + bread and was happy. First, tried an Irish Old Fashioned. Honestly wouldn't recommend it - mostly orange, not much whiskey, wasn't great, but was fine. The brioche was pretty good, but the white truffle honey butter it came with was divine. The salad, which I did without the blue cheese, was very good. Plenty of leafy greens, candies bacon, etc. were very nice, but the in-house locally-grown strawberry vinaigrette was awesome. Finally, had the seared beef in horseradish grits and gravy. I don't like horseradish much but it was fairly subtle, and with the gravy it was really good with the beef. Staff was very friendly and attentive, though I was the only person there at 5:30 (which is early for any restaurant in the area). Definitely enjoyed it. Food came out to about $30 pre-tax/tip, drink was over-priced at $13.50 - I can go get truly craft cocktails in downtown San Francisco for less. Overall a very positive experience with a few minor exceptions and a high price. Would definitely recommend if you're not too price sensitive. read more

We were looking for a chef-on-call to cater our group of 11 adults and 3 young children on the closing Saturday of our beach week. Chef Mark was very busy but offered to accommodate us with a custom menu in the restaurant. This was a *great* choice. Chef Mark and his staff prepared appetizers, main courses, desserts, and drinks that everybody in our group loved. The kids were delighted by the large fruit plate (Chef Mark remembered their love of fruit from our calls!) and the chicken tenders and mac-and-cheese he prepared for them - they're just lucky I didn't eat all their food too, it was that good. Our custom main course was tenderloin oscar with local red snapper, a great fish recommendation given our go-to of sea bass was out of season. The desserts included a coconut pannacotta with nuts. Oops, our nephew has a nut allergy - we told them and a version with no nuts appeared moments later. The wine recommendations, red, rose, and white, were spot-on and very reasonable choices from a full spectrum of high quality wines on the list.
