10/10 best cheesesteaks ever. Have yet to have a better Philly cheesesteak in the place they're actually known for.... Philly.

If you are from the Philly area you already know that anything, or anybody from the south claiming to be a "Philly Cheesesteak joint" you are gonna say " yea right " ! I will admit I did say " yea right" followed with other choice words (Bulls**t store, f**kin impostors), and I was wrong. I admit it, I was wrong after walking in and seeing South Philly in front of my eyes with all the Philly paraphernalia. We come to find out that owner and his wife moved from S.Philly to here and opened this up. Ok now I feel at home, and they had whiz to back it up.. the appropriate kind The menus had all different kind of cheesesteaks they make including one called "The Whiz Wit " we all know what that is in case you don't whiz= cheese , wit= onions (knowledge bomb ). All kinds, even chicken cheesesteaks, pretty creative and they all sound good and tempting. When ordering fries go with the cheese fries, nothing like a nice ladle full of whiz to cover those little guys up. Myself I went with the bacon cheesesteak wit , and I will say this was a great choice. Ample amounts of bacon (for the bacon fans) mixed in with the meat chopped just right and cheese melted all in with the onions adding more flavor to it. Another thing that is good is their wings, great flavor to it, nice little zest to it, nice sized wings. Place was kinda busy seeing and us coming thru the door really made his night with our order. Also the prices were up there in price , 10 dollars for a 12" (large) and 7 something for a 6" (regular). We all went with the large , because in our eyes that is the regular. In all for OBX and N.C. this is a great spot, a touch of Philly for the people who crave a good cheesesteak. This place will be visited again when we come down for that crave. Still Philly is Philly and for what its known for, they might do good if he brought his unique ideas back home. read more

I was a little hesitant to try this place because I am not the biggest fan of Philly Steak Subs, but upon checking out the menu I found they offered a lot more than just subs which was a great thing for me. The atmosphere feels very much like a small sports bar. There is limited seating so it is not good for a group. We went there around 11 am and there were only a few booths left. It is a order and get a number and wait type of place. We only had to wait about 15 minutes for our food to come out. I had the double cheeseburger. As a side note if you order any type of hamburger it will take longer to come out than a sub. The double cheeseburger and fries were one of the best I have had. The portion is very big. The only real issue I had with this place is how pricey the place was. We only got a cheeseburger, fries, a sub, and a bottle of water and it was around $30. Also, they do not just offer tap water only bottle water which does not make sense to me. If you are looking for a quick lunch that is a little more pricey, but good then you should check this place out. read more

Fantastic!! But from the outside it doesn't look like much, but step inside and immediately you notice their great taste in beer selection (white claws too!). This used to be my go to place for a decent cheesesteak in the OBX. It's under new management and in my opinion, the steaks aren't as good. That doesn't mean they are bad, but not great like they used to be. It can get very busy during the tourist season so expect a wait. I give three stars to restaurants to which I would return, four stars to those at which I would like to be a regular, and five stars for restaurants to which I would drive out of my way. read more

Average subs. Easy process to pick up and take to go. Got soggy fast. Tasted pretty good, but if I don't wasn't going purely on convenience I would go somewhere else. Looks like you can sit in there and grab a beer while you wait which is cool. read more

Nice atmosphere and the food is excellent. Very clean and you can still feel comfortable coming in off the beach. I love the fact they use white American cheese on some of their cheesesteaks. Seems to be privately owned which makes it that much better. We will return next trip down. I'm picky so I don't leave reviews lightly. read more

I've headed to OBX annually for the last 5 or so years. Last year someone discovered this place. We ate there almost everyday for breakfast (late breakfast). Best vacation ever. This year we only managed a couple stops at Philly Steak Subs - and they are still serving great subs. They marinate their mushrooms and peppers in some sort of garlic oil - which is a nice touch. The meat is a good balance of substance and moisture. Not too greasy, not too dry. They have an ample variety of toppings from the classic whiz, to lettuce/tomato, bacon, and even BBQ sauce, etc. Yes I know a some of these are no-no's in Philly. But we ain't in Philly! My suggestion is to skip the wings. Fries were lightly beer battered. The help was ok. Food came out fairly quickly. They have a large selection of beers. read more

The food is actually good...closest thing to a real philly cheesesteak I've ever had outside of Philly. So why 2 stars? These are the grouchiest, lousiest people that I've ever given my money to. as an example, I tried to call in an order (because the wait is horrible) no answer. So we drive over to order. I ask about no one answering the phone and he grunts "too busy" (this while a lady is standing behind the counter literally doing nothing). They should be glad theyre in the obx because they wouldn't survive in philly. read more

Well, this is an interesting little place. Lots of rules to direct you how to order, keep the door closed, no free cups...it's like the joints in Philly where you get ridiculed if you don't order properly. That's really a great business model and it keeps your customers happy! Whatever. Anyone who chooses to be a fan of the Eagles clearly hasn't burdened themselves with an over abundance of schooling. I don't expect geniuses to be running a sub shop in a strip mall. The cheesesteaks are very good. And that's why you are here. Not "good for the beach" good, but empirically good. The toasted roll makes it. The caramelized onions add a bunch, even though they remove some authenticity. It's close enough to a true cheesesteak to make Eagles fans happy, but also better in some ways. Good fries, too. Just be prepared to follow ALL the rules that ever existed in ever. read more

Great cheesesteak, coming from a guy who's from Philly. I've been here four times and each time the food was great. Not sure if they deliver but this place is worth the drive. When you walk in there are a lot of cool Philly sports memorabilia. Best place for a hangover and afterwards a nap. You'll need it for the food coma. read more

I'm very skeptical of places like this and will go out of my way to avoid cheesesteaks out of my metro philly area but this place after hearing of its quality from others helped us up! Well, we were looking for barbecue - and Sooey's was literally empty with not even a hint of wood smoke smell in the air, so that was an obvious no go. Hungry, we wandered down a few store fronts to this place. It was busy, already a good sign, and better yet, it was busy with burly contractor men types. If anyone knows where to get a proper sandwich at lunchtime, it's them. I had a great chicken cheese steak with mushrooms, onions, hot peppers, provolone and marinara sauce. My PA born and raised sandwich snob of a husband gave his approval as well and we were impressed to see they have Amoroso's rolls delivered. My only complaint about my sandwich was a good half of it was pretty soggy when it came to me, and we ate there, so I don't know what that was about. The fries were good too.
