Pretty solid Philly cheesesteak shop! The Philly cheese steak was nice and cheesy. The bread was soft, personally wish it was a little more sauced up. The onion rings were nice and crispy! The Philly egg rolls were tasty, but I wish there was more cheese. But it had a good crisp. We got the buffalo garlic sauce, which tasted very much like pure buffalo sauce. So if you like buffalo, it's a good choice. The inside had graffiti on the walls and felt very urban, giving the city vibe. The service was nice and fast. There is plentiful outdoor seating as well! Thank you for the food as we travel from Hampton Roads to Northern Virginia!
What a delicious and magical cheese steak shop! My friend used to work in Williamsburg and would come to Rick's Cheese Steak Shop after his shift. He always would tell me anecdotes about how getting a cheesesteak there felt like eating an entire baby cow. He also would always share how delicious it used to be. For our winter holidays we decided to do a Williamsburg day trip for this sandwich. When we got there it wasn't too busy, but it got packed as lunch hour went on. You order at the front. We shared a classic 12 inch cheese steak (IT WAS HUGE). They have plenty of other sandwiches on the menu too. We were given a number for our table and they brought us the food. I had to use a fork for my first few bites of the sandwich. It's a very casual spot with lots of seating available. We enjoyed some fries and a coke too. If I was in the area, I would come back for another cheesesteak.
Was in town for work. The restaurant was less than 10 mins from my hotel, so figure I give it a try. Glad I did! It was pretty AMAZING! Food came out quick and fast. It was good! The people there was super nice! Awesome customer service! Although we took it to go, it was a cute little shop with some tables outside. People with pets could enjoy eating outside. Will definitely come back here again if I was back in the area for work.

I appreciate they have the cooper sharp, which melted on adds a flavor element that is typically reserved for Philly area. What I'm missing is the bread quality lacks in comparison, in terms of size and texture. A better quality bread and meat would probably get this place 5 stars. I knock a star off because it claims to be Philly quality but it's not quite there. Best you can get, likely, in the south though! That said, I would have to say 4.5 stars because the vibe is friendly, and the prices can actually be rather affordable. Hopefully it stays at $8-9 for a basic cheesesteak. Of course, we got the larger family sharing size, so that is what's pictured. The chili cheese fries and fried mozzarella were pleasant with above average quality, too!
Whenever I'm in the area, I must stop past Rick's to get a cheesesteak. The food smells so good and is always fresh! Dont skip the chilli cheese fries! This place is not intimate nor upscale but it doesn't matter. When you come here, it's for the cheesesteaks. Cheese is melty, ooey gooey. You have a choice of additional toppings to get, including Cheez Wiz. If you're dining in they call your name and bring the food to you. No matter the times I stop by it's always semi-crowded, but service is still friendly and speedy. The sandwiches taste great when warmed up at home, but even better right away in the store. I'm several hours from Philly, so this place hits home for me when I need that authentic cheesesteak feel.
Rick's is the real deal for cheesesteaks in Williamsburg. I tried the Italian Cheesesteak and was instantly transported--no need to make the trek to Philly anymore. The sandwich came stuffed with thin-sliced steak, melted cheese, sautéed onions, and just the right amount of tomato sauce to tie it together. The bread held up beautifully without being too heavy, which makes all the difference. Don't sleep on the crinkle fries--they're perfectly golden and especially good with a dash of malt vinegar (yes, they have it on the table!). The atmosphere is laid-back with both indoor and outdoor seating, and the staff couldn't have been friendlier. For a college town spot, Rick's punches well above its weight. Solid food, generous portions, and service that makes you want to come back.
I'm from Eastern PA originally, so I know these things. This is a GOOD freaking cheesesteak. I'm no onion gal so I skipped those, but if you're concerned then I want to reassure you- they do have onions. They also DO have whiz if desired! The rolls were right, and if you've spent any real time in Philly you understand what I mean by that- there are right rolls and wrong rolls when it comes to the perfect cheesesteak and these are the right ones. Meat was flavorful and well seasoned. Cheese was generous. We split a large and it was MASSIVE, we really could have gotten by with a smaller sandwich. The fries are, of course, crinkle!
Really disappointing. Ordered the 12 inch cheesesteak. What we got was just a mess. First of all, it was barely ten inches, and was so wet that it fell apart when I unwrapped it. The roll was just a soggy mess. I put it in the oven for a few minutes to try to dry it out, but it was still a knife and fork sandwich. I ordered it with onion and peppers, but I couldn't find them in the goo that was the filling. For a $17.50 sandwich, it was not worth it.
The food here is delicious! Great price for the amount of food you get. I got the regular Cheeseteak and added peppers and mushrooms to it. It was full of meat and flavor! They do not skimp on filling the sandwich. I ordered Dr. Browns Diet cream soda and asked for a cup with ice to have a yummy drink to go with it. I went when it opened so only a few of us were in there. My cheesesteak was ready within 10 minutes (probably less- I didn't time it but it was quick). It is clean in the restaurant with plenty of seating. The lighting is perfect- not too bright BUT not dark. The staff is friendly and welcoming. They are helpful if you have questions. The location is perfect- not too far from William & Mary and Colonial Williamsburg. I have been here before and never have had a bad meal or bad experience. If you are looking to satisfy a cheesesteak craving and want a local place to go- stop in and try it!
This place was really good! After walking through historic Williamsburg I needed to refuel. You go in and place your order, there was a bit of a wait to get the food, but well worth it. The Philly cheese and fries came out hot and fresh. Extremely fresh. The restaurant is not very large, but there is seating indoors and out. If you're in the area definitely give it a try!
Okay folks I've eaten here many times over the years. Maybe as many as 12-15 times and the wifey and I always get the same thing. 2 large cheesesteak, a order of cheese fries and 2 bottle sodas. Our last visit was no different. What I noticed on my recent visit is clearly there have been some changes. The decor has totally changed. A lot brighter and all the memorabilia is now gone. The walls are bright and cleaned up. Looks good. But I didn't have any problems with the old look. I'm assuming there is a new owner or something. Not exactly sure why the significant change. As for the meals. Its appears to be the same. I didn't notice any change in the amount of steak or the roll size, nor the amount of fries given. Which is a very good thing. Wonderfully stacked and tasted great as always. Staff as friendly as always. But as you can see I've knocked them down one full star. Again not for the meal or service, but the cost. Our meal on November 1, 2024, was a whopping $$51.00. I'd have to look back but this appears to be a significant increase. Now i fully understand prices in this world have increased and I'm not sure what it was our last visit, but no way over $50. Not sure the reasoning of this. But I absolutely will have to consider this when visiting the area again and looking for a meal. So again great food - but be aware of the cost.
Rick's Cheesesteak Shop is worth the hype! I popped in for dinner just before closing on a Monday. The man behind the register was very friendly. I ordered their original cheesesteak with several toppings- jalapenos, grilled onions, and grilled mushrooms. The eight inch (the smaller of the two options) was more than enough food for one. The meat is loaded on. I used a fork to eat some of it so it wouldn't fall out. They sell Coca-Cola products, including Cherry Coke. The sandwich itself was very tasty! The cheese it comes on is out of this world. Inside, there are murals, tables, and a few places to charge your phone. read more

I've always wanted to go here because this seems like a williamsburg classic! Ricks cheesesteak shop, not to be confused from the one in Newport News, is p good! Imm a big fan of the untainted cheese and steak and they do good with it. Service was fast and sweet. Boss man was smiling from cheek to cheek. Onion rings were cwispy. Cheese steak egg roll tho!? Awwwwwww man. Juicy. Crispy. Cheesy. Clutch move on that one. read more

Found this place on yelp. Has a whopping chunk of steak. Well cooked and you don't need larger that a 6 inch unless you are looking for leftovers. Fries are crinkle. I got the Rick's standard one and it was superb. One thing I would say is with the peppers, if I get them in a cheesesteak, I usually get them chopped up with the steak, the same as onions. Here, they're like wet peppers. They weren't great, so I pulled them out but I think I just had an issue with them as u wasn't used to it that way. I would get again and would recommend. I'm not a fan. If you're not going to have good steak, at-least of good bread. This place has neither. The steak, onions, and cheese were all mixed together like a casserole. I prefer my cheesesteak layered. I should known this was going to happen when I heard sword fighting noises (metal on metal) coming from the kitchen. The people were nice but I can't see myself wanting to come back. read more
We're obsessed with this place! It's a must stop when on a road Trip! The hard decision is what to eat, because the chili cheese fries are inhalabable and super filling. These are a must stuff you face with item. Best eaten by 2 people, we also usually order a large cheese steak but end up eating it later They sell beer and wind The shop was recently expanded and has more seating room now, but it gets busy so order ahead or come before or after lunch rush. They are fast in the kitchen, and the staff has always been great and had nice style. This is near William and Mary college, and parking can be tight, but there is a business lot too. If you can't find close parking, there is municipal garage parking about.5 mi away and not a bad idea to Walk before and after this well worth it gut bomb. read more

It's been a year and I always like to update and this place is still delicious! Grabbed a cheesesteak hoagie (that means tomato, lettuce, and mayo for all you non-Philly folk!) the other night and as delicious. Cheese fries were delicious too! Lots of cheese! Yum! Service was great as usual and the inside does have seating but we usually get it to go. Just our preference since we only live a mile away. Grab a cheesesteak here to get good authentic taste of Philadelphia here in the burg. read more

We had to see what the hype was all about and we now understand why this is one of the most talked about cheesesteak shops in the area! Nestled near the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA this local favorite serves one of the most solid cheesesteaks we've had in a long time. Great customer service and a nice clean spot to sit and eat. They were busy but all the orders were served timely! Fresh hoagie roll, quality steak cooked perfectly with the perfect amount of American cheese to which we added grilled onions and mushrooms then topped with lettuce, tomatoes and mayo (3.9/5-Large:$15) a little seasoning would have taken this sub straight to the top for us but it was overall good. We also ordered their shareable crinkle cut fries which were crispy and piping hot (5/5- $7). The food was wonderful. I ordered the Cheesesteak fries They were good, but I was sorry I didn't get a traditional sandwich. Hubby got the Pizza Steak and I preferred his. The amount of food is phenomenal. We could have split a large sandwich and fries easily BUT hubby managed to eat the 10" all by himself lol. The fries were too much for me. Prices were not ridiculous and the service was friendly. Restaurant was super clean and welcoming. read more
