What a delicious and magical cheese steak shop! My friend used to work in Williamsburg and would come to Rick's Cheese Steak Shop after his shift. He always would tell me anecdotes about how getting a cheesesteak there felt like eating an entire baby cow. He also would always share how delicious it used to be. For our winter holidays we decided to do a Williamsburg day trip for this sandwich. When we got there it wasn't too busy, but it got packed as lunch hour went on. You order at the front. We shared a classic 12 inch cheese steak (IT WAS HUGE). They have plenty of other sandwiches on the menu too. We were given a number for our table and they brought us the food. I had to use a fork for my first few bites of the sandwich. It's a very casual spot with lots of seating available. We enjoyed some fries and a coke too. If I was in the area, I would come back for another cheesesteak.

Was in town for work. The restaurant was less than 10 mins from my hotel, so figure I give it a try. Glad I did! It was pretty AMAZING! Food came out quick and fast. It was good! The people there was super nice! Awesome customer service! Although we took it to go, it was a cute little shop with some tables outside. People with pets could enjoy eating outside. Will definitely come back here again if I was back in the area for work.

Probably as good a cheesesteak you're gonna get outside of Philly/NJ, but I would be happy to have it again! I appreciate they have the cooper sharp, which melted on adds a flavor element that is typically reserved for Philly area. What I'm missing is the bread quality lacks in comparison, in terms of size and texture. A better quality bread and meat would probably get this place 5 stars. I knock a star off because it claims to be Philly quality but it's not quite there. Best you can get, likely, in the south though! That said, I would have to say 4.5 stars because the vibe is friendly, and the prices can actually be rather affordable. Hopefully it stays at $8-9 for a basic cheesesteak. Of course, we got the larger family sharing size, so that is what's pictured. The chili cheese fries and fried mozzarella were pleasant with above average quality, too!

Whenever I'm in the area, I must stop past Rick's to get a cheesesteak. The food smells so good and is always fresh! Dont skip the chilli cheese fries! This place is not intimate nor upscale but it doesn't matter. When you come here, it's for the cheesesteaks. Cheese is melty, ooey gooey. You have a choice of additional toppings to get, including Cheez Wiz. If you're dining in they call your name and bring the food to you. No matter the times I stop by it's always semi-crowded, but service is still friendly and speedy. The sandwiches taste great when warmed up at home, but even better right away in the store. I'm several hours from Philly, so this place hits home for me when I need that authentic cheesesteak feel.

Rick's is the real deal for cheesesteaks in Williamsburg. I tried the Italian Cheesesteak and was instantly transported--no need to make the trek to Philly anymore. The sandwich came stuffed with thin-sliced steak, melted cheese, sautéed onions, and just the right amount of tomato sauce to tie it together. The bread held up beautifully without being too heavy, which makes all the difference. Don't sleep on the crinkle fries--they're perfectly golden and especially good with a dash of malt vinegar (yes, they have it on the table!). The atmosphere is laid-back with both indoor and outdoor seating, and the staff couldn't have been friendlier. For a college town spot, Rick's punches well above its weight. Solid food, generous portions, and service that makes you want to come back.

I'm from Eastern PA originally, so I know these things. This is a GOOD freaking cheesesteak. I'm no onion gal so I skipped those, but if you're concerned then I want to reassure you- they do have onions. They also DO have whiz if desired! The rolls were right, and if you've spent any real time in Philly you understand what I mean by that- there are right rolls and wrong rolls when it comes to the perfect cheesesteak and these are the right ones. Meat was flavorful and well seasoned. Cheese was generous. We split a large and it was MASSIVE, we really could have gotten by with a smaller sandwich. The fries are, of course, crinkle!

The food here is delicious! Great price for the amount of food you get. I got the regular Cheeseteak and added peppers and mushrooms to it. It was full of meat and flavor! They do not skimp on filling the sandwich. I ordered Dr. Browns Diet cream soda and asked for a cup with ice to have a yummy drink to go with it. I went when it opened so only a few of us were in there. My cheesesteak was ready within 10 minutes (probably less- I didn't time it but it was quick). It is clean in the restaurant with plenty of seating. The lighting is perfect- not too bright BUT not dark. The staff is friendly and welcoming. They are helpful if you have questions. The location is perfect- not too far from William & Mary and Colonial Williamsburg. I have been here before and never have had a bad meal or bad experience. If you are looking to satisfy a cheesesteak craving and want a local place to go- stop in and try it!

Perfect place to stop by on game day and get a cheese steak. They were really nice to us and our child. Will come back.

This place was really good! After walking through historic Williamsburg I needed to refuel. You go in and place your order, there was a bit of a wait to get the food, but well worth it. The Philly cheese and fries came out hot and fresh. Extremely fresh. The restaurant is not very large, but there is seating indoors and out. If you're in the area definitely give it a try!

Okay folks I've eaten here many times over the years. Maybe as many as 12-15 times and the wifey and I always get the same thing. 2 large cheesesteak, a order of cheese fries and 2 bottle sodas. Our last visit was no different. What I noticed on my recent visit is clearly there have been some changes. The decor has totally changed. A lot brighter and all the memorabilia is now gone. The walls are bright and cleaned up. Looks good. But I didn't have any problems with the old look. I'm assuming there is a new owner or something. Not exactly sure why the significant change. As for the meals. Its appears to be the same. I didn't notice any change in the amount of steak or the roll size, nor the amount of fries given. Which is a very good thing. Wonderfully stacked and tasted great as always. Staff as friendly as always. But as you can see I've knocked them down one full star. Again not for the meal or service, but the cost. Our meal on November 1, 2024, was a whopping $$51.00. I'd have to look back but this appears to be a significant increase. Now i fully understand prices in this world have increased and I'm not sure what it was our last visit, but no way over $50. Not sure the reasoning of this. But I absolutely will have to consider this when visiting the area again and looking for a meal. So again great food - but be aware of the cost.

When I got to the restaurant I asked if they had horse radish: no. Au jus: yes. I wanted a piece of Carrot cake but I thought $18 was exorbitant. I opted for the pecan pie instead. The online menu said they had some crispy chicken dinner... It was no longer part of the menu when I arrived to the restaurant.. My significant other is allergic to shellfish, and does not eat pork... There weren't a lot of entrée options for him because there was pork all over the place. I did order him some salmon since he could not get the chicken. He liked the salmon. The broccoli had no flavor on it. And the brown rice pilaf was equally Bland. The brisket sandwich was ...okay... but dipping it in French onion soup calling it onion jus.... It just pissed me off. I think the menu was overpriced for tourists. The staff seemed to be doing the best they could. I guess I'll continue my hunt for the best Friend dip in Williamsburg. I'm down here a lot.

I placed an order for twelve york river oysters, a Bloody Mary, and the fried green tomatoes. The bar was small and intimate with two televisions, both on football games, and other customers who were friendly and social. My drink arrived first, and while very flavorful, for $13, I found it to be on the small side. I've gotten a larger Bloody Mary's of equal quality at other restaurants for less money. I think you should work on either the price point or the portion size here. The oysters arrived properly iced with lemon wedges and generous portions of cocktail sauce, horseradish, and terrific garlic butter. They were perfect. Shortly after, the fried green tomatoes arrived. Such a disappointment. The presentation was excellent, the diced red tomatoes a nice color accent, but the green tomato slices were wafer thin and were overpowered by the pimento cheese, totally wrecking the flavor profile of the dish.....the portion sizes should have been reversed. They were the absolute thinnest slices of tomato I have ever encountered on a serving of F.G.T. The dollar special on the oysters is enough to get me back in, but I will reexamine my menu and drink choices on my next visit.

We have not not dined, or even spent much time at CW since the pandemic. After a hike behind Bassett Hall my wife and I enjoyed lunch. We arrived at noon and were promptly seated in an empty room. Around 20 minutes later the first floor was full. The atmosphere was cool and authentic. Nothing has changed since my previous visit. Our friendly waitress got menus and waters. I started off with an Apple Jack Old Fashioned utilizing Virginia Gentleman bourbon. We reviewed items on the menu that may have been served in the period. We started with apps. I got a salad, or "To Make a Fine Sallet". My wife crab croquettes. They pushed out first and we enjoyed. For mains. I got the pork shank, or "To Stew a Shoat in the French Way". My wife had "Chicken Hash", it was like a thick soup. The plating was beautiful and the taste matched. The old fashioned was disappointing because it was so weak. Service was decent, but not much attention. For dessert I got the bread pudding and wife chocolate tart. Both were outstanding! The bill was dropped on the table. It was around $150 w/ tip. I came here with my parents and girlfriend as a way to cap a nice day of introducing her to them and I was unpleasantly surprised by the visit. Despite the fact that you cannot park in front of the establishment , there was very little signage in the back to route you to where you needed to be to reach the host stand. Once we got there, there was some awkward interaction from the hostess to get us seated, and we reviewed our menus. We all opted for the peanut soup ($10 each) as an appetizer, and my girlfriend and I opted for the Roast Duck ($50 each) and my parents both opted for the Salmon with crab on top ($59 each). While the peanut soup was excellent (and available elsewhere), the roast duck was flavorless, the accompanying vegetables cold, and the mashed potatoes were not enough to save the entree. The "free" Sally Lunn bread and cornbread were quite nice, though again not enough to save the meal, nor was the bread pudding. My parents told me they liked the salmon meals but without sampling it I have to take their word for it. I risk seeming ignorant here so to be clear: I have enjoyed a number of elevated meals where the high prices were entirely justified by the quality of food, level of service, and upscale atmosphere. King's Arms failed in every respect: the food was middling at best, the service was okay but failed to make enough callbacks to avoid running out of water, and the ambiance was spoiled by a large party with eight children they decided to seat in the middle of the room, thereby ensuring a loud distraction for everyone. While this was indeed an interesting experience from a historical perspective, it is utterly unfit to charge the prices it does and I strongly recommend against coming here. The extra star is for the soup, definitely seek out the peanut soup (but do it somewhere else). Overall: 2.0 stars ---- Pros: - The peanut soup is excellent, as is the Sally Lunn bread - The historical experience of dining where those in antiquity have is quite cool. Cons: - By fine dining standards, the rest of the fare here is laughably bad. - The service is decent but nowhere near where it should be given the airs they put on. - Prices are exorbitant and horrifying to anyone with an eye for value. - Directions and parking are an additional pain point. - If you know you have a large party of children, plan seating accordingly. This is an awful way to ruin the experience of everyone else who is paying a lot to be here.
