The experience here was amazing.i sneezed and one of the workers said bless you .it was very clean…read moreand cheap.

Not much to talk about positively at Currituck BBQ as most things are either bland or just bad…read more The pulled brisket is just a wet sloppy mess that has at least some flavor from some spices but no real smokiness or some fattiness. The same goes for the pulled pork but even less flavor with even less spices being used. To complement the bland meats you do have a variety of BBQ sauces to choose from. The original is absurdly sweet and the South Carolina style has some mustard flavor but the vinegar and sweetness just overpower. The best was the North Carolina style sauce with some spices added in there but the overt vinegar taste can overpower. The chicken is just a rotisserie chicken, no BBQ going on there and is just a waste of a dish. The ribs had some nice pull on them and had a good amount of meat on them but the original BBQ sauce is just so sweet you can't taste anything else. The sides might have been the best things there, and they were still average at best. The mac and cheese was deeply cheesy and flavorful, but the macaroni is overcooked. The sweet potato casserole was very sweet and full of nutmeg offering a nice dessert side. The fries and fried okra were both very average with little flavor or seasoning. The coleslaw was a bit too sweet for me but it wasn't overpowering like most of the dishes. The potato salad is too sweet and had no other flavors. One of the most offensive things is the buns. The buns are some of the worst you can get, making the meal even worse. They almost taste like nothing. Overall horrible food and some of the worst BBQ I've ever had.

Cindy's Kitchen sells desserts inside the adjacent Kevin's gas station. MUST STOP AT KEVIN's either…read moreon your way to or from OBX! It doesn't look like much but is a hidden gem. The BEST desserts, no matter what treat you seek! Cookies, cakes, pies, muffins, bars, parfaits, and much more. Don't forget to look in the fridge sections! Not to worry, the cakes and pies come in single-serve slices. ;-) My all-time faves are the 3-layer Carrot Cake, Oreo Cake, Cranberry or Chocolate muffins...and of course the famous 12-layer cake that has the most perfect chocolate ganache throughout and all over the outside. Grab a 1/2 cake for your next potluck or gathering. OR, you can order ahead of time. Catering menus are at the register. Check out these ginormous babies I ordered for a backyard Southern Charm themed picnic a few weeks ago (trunk photo). I had no idea they would be so huge!. The cake boxes hold HUGE Pig-Pickin' cakes, which were DIVINE! (Fun fact: Pig-Pickin' cake is so named because it's the perfect cake to eat at a BBQ. Get it? Pig-Pickin' ). It's made of orange/pineapple/yellow cake/whipped fluffy deliciousness you will never forget. And those Key Lime Pies were the best I've ever had anywhere. I ordered Large pies, not knowing they'd be the largest I'd ever seen. We had about 40 people, so I had one full Key Lime AND a full Pig-Pickin left over that I had to give away. I just ordered WAY too much. Sad/not sad face. Most of our party guests were from Miami and island/South American countries, and even they raved about how best-in-class both desserts were. NOTE: Closed Sundays, so plan ahead! And always will be, in honor of late owner Kevin's final wish. :-)

Found this cute gem on the way to OBX!…read more The bakery items looked decadent. I tried the famous 12-layer cake and cream cheese brownie... my gosh too good! Tasted as if my grandma made me some treats--that's how you know it's real southern baking. I will definitely be back!
