Really authentic North Carolina bbq. Chopped pork sandwiches & really good hush puppies. We agreed the Mac and cheese had really nice consistency but needed some seasoning. The sauces are really stand out and we also had some chicken chunks that I would suggest skipping. The sweet potato casserole was really sweet and a treat for sure. Location is between Chesapeake and the OBX so a little bit of a drive if you're in Hampton Roads, Elizabeth City location may be closer. To be fair we only had the chopped brisket and chopped pork for sandwiches. I wish it was more smoked but still very good. The location had really pretty outdoor seating so I'd still recommend the location if you're up for a quick bite. We didn't try any of the other sides so I can't say how they are but the hush puppies were absolutely amazing!!! For the price it was a good option for something to grab on the way home from the OBX.

We stop here on the way home from the Outer Banks every time we visit! It's such a nice barbecue spot with good prices and great food! It's a cute little spot with quick service anindoor as well as lovely outdoor seating. Definitely recommend it for anyone coming this way!

Food here is really good. Affordable prices, very polite staff, portions are average. Restaurant interior is old but clean, and it is a great stop on the way to the beach. Highly recommend.

A place you don't want to miss

We didn't take any pictures of our food because it was so good we ate it up fast and even had a second helping. I am so glad we stopped The Hushpuppies were the best I have ever had; sweet tasting, yummieness. Would definitely stop again! Plus, the staff was very friendly and the restaurant was nice and clean.

I love stopping here halfway between the airport and OBX. I got the pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw, extra slaw on the side and beans. tastes exactly the same every single time. Be sure to add some Texas Pete's and it is the best BBQ sandwich.

We were traveling back to Norfolk from the OBX, and though I was full because we had already eaten, I decided to stop and purchase a bottle of their North Carolina style BBQ sauce. The place was bustling and everyone appeared to be enjoying their food. I tried the sauce when I made it home to Louisiana and really enjoyed it. If I'm ever in the area again I'll definitely try some of the meats.

If you get the pulled pork sandwich, hushpuppies and fries it is PERFECTION. I could absolutely eat my weight in hushpuppies. THEY ARE LITTERALL THAT GOOD. The platters are not as good as my VA Beach local spot Im in love with so I will have to give them a solid 4. When we asked for Brisket I thought it would be a chunk of brisket. It was pulled meat. That is ok but I am spoiled when it comes to BBQ. They have a few sides to choose from. The potato salad is good but It taste like everyone else. Stick with the pulled pork sandwich and hushpuppies and you will be fine. DONT FORGET THE HUSHPUPPIES!!!!!! I'm hungry just talking about them.

This is our second visit. Super excited. Just a few mins away from Morris farmer market. Another. Must stop. Grab some napkins and thank me later.

The real deal for NC BBQ! No frills, just the way local folk like it. Plenty of seating, inside and out with ample parking and room for pets to take a nice break. When leaving the Outer Banks and heading north, hold your hunger past the beachy tourist joints until you get here. You will not be disappointed!

We've been to the OBX area several times and obviously have driven by Currituck a bunch, but for one reason or another never stopped. Enter a Christmas week visit and the fact that on most weekdays there are basically no BBQ joints/restaurants/shacks open in the Nags Head/KDH/Manteo area at all or for dinner, so we said, what the hell, and made the 50 minute drive to Currituck. There were five us so many combinations of meats, platters and sides were ordered but of course, I'm only going to focus on what I got because hey, it's my review. BBQ Chicken Sandwich - Mac & Cheese - Beans The pulled BBQ chicken sandwich was very good (all sandwiches come in two sizes with regular and jumbo) by itself but when the Larry's Original Sauce was added (sorry but I'm a Yank and don't care for vinegar or mustard-based sauces) it went to a level of great. Very moist with a lot of flavor. The beans are also noteworthy delicioso. Great choice to have the Larry's Original as the base for the sauce along with some sugar for a sweetening agent. The one turd would be the Mac & Cheese. Honestly, not much cheese flavor and it had almost a gloppy/gluey consistency. Four of the five people got it for a side, and all said it was a regrettable choice. Definitely no tourists in their past us and several of the locals knew each other and were talking like they come here fairly frequently which I after coming here I get. Good service, food was rendered quick, and the prices are reasonable. Past the slip up with the M&C this is a no brainer during future OBX trips and was well worth the near two hour round trip from South Nags Head.

I've been here twice now and I just love the place itself. Nice & simple menu, great atmosphere, love the outside and inside. But the food overall has been leaning average both times - with the exception of the hushpuppies, those are really amazing. I also liked their green beans and coleslaw. I asked for the slaw on top of my burnt ends sandwich this second visit and they said they only do that with pork sandwiches. I thought it was odd, since I would've paid to have the slaw on my sandwich. Kind of a strange rule. So, I got burnt ends on a bun. I didn't use bbq sauce so it was pretty bland without the slaw & I didn't finish it. I wish I got the slaw as a side instead of the Mac n cheese. Anyway - overall, I still like this place. I just wish the sides were a little better. I also thought the applesauce was made in house, but it's musselmans & full of sugar so I didn't give it to my baby. If you come, get the cheerwine soda. So good. Mac n cheese - 2/5 (My almost 1 year old baby would rate the Mac n cheese 5/5, though) Fries - 2/5 Burnt ends - 4/5 Pork - 5/5 Green beans - 4/5 Hush puppies - 5/5 Cole Slaw - 3/5

Whole family enjoyed and would eat here again!!! Stopped on the way home from kill devil hills to Ohio

BBQ, with original sauce, and baked beans.

Delicious BBQ, amazing even. But I wasn't impressed with any of the sides. 5 stars was for the BBQ alone.

With so many options in SEVA and NENC, I skip this one. While perfectly servicable, nothing stood out. I've had way better elsewhere.

Pass the Salt is a cute little country cafe operated by the sweetest people!…read more It deserves more than a 5 star rating. This was our second visit. Our family of 5 dropped by in the early afternoon on a Wednesday. We were warmly greeted, seated and made to feel comfortable and at home. The decor is simple and cute. Several tables are constructed of old doors, decorated and covered with glass. Many other artistic and creative decorative touches highlight this cute cafe. There is a good selection of beer, wine and specialty drinks as well as a great assortment of soft drinks. The menu has a wide selection of apps, sandwiches and salads (all unique and intriguing) I am a guy who enjoys a great burger from the great selection. I ordered the "Double Ringer Burger" and added bacon. I just found the best burger that I ever had! Two perfectly seasoned burgers were seared on both sides and perfectly pink in the middle. They were served on a tasty brioche bun with three deep fried onion rings and highlighted with a special sauce. All of the selections chosen by our group earned great reviews from my family. Portions are generous and served with a choice of sides. The house-made desserts sound delicious, but none of us had room to partake. Pass The Salt is well worth the drive from Sandbridge (1 hour).

As you walk in you note the feel of it being a converted diner made to look like a country place. You grab your own menu, seat yourself, and walk up to the bar/register when ready to order. If the first time, you need a minute to get your bearings. Food ordered (3% fee is not using the cash "discount" FYI, pretty common around here and absurd given these OBX prices). Drinks are self serve. Some coke products and excellent tea. This was the end of breakfast around 10:30/11, so it was empty. Service was pretty quick. (they bring it to the table). I thought the breakfast pricing was fair. Shrimp and grits for $12, etc. Especially for the portion sizes. Two things I didn't care for. -The ceilling tiles were crazy dirty and stained and the flor light bulbs were uncovered. -The shrimp and grits needs a re-do. It's huge, with a base of grits, ladels of bacon gravy, and about 5 shrimp and cheddar cheese. It's more like a shrimp, grits, gravy, cheese casserole. I would have much rather had a base of grits, the gravy scooped in the middle with shrimp stuck in it, and topped with cheese. Even with all that you'd think there would be flavor. It was kind of bland minus the occasionally greasy/burnt bacon piece. Also, the shrimp were flavorful but over-cooked and tail on, which is traditional--but in the casserole were a pain in the butt to get the tail off/cut. I know they can do good flavors and plates. My spouse's chicken biscut...omg the hand-breaded chicken was fantastic! My son's baked apples were to die for. You Philly visitors will be happy to see scrapples on the menu - yuck. All in, I would repeat and stick to chicken and the chicken coop.
