Very good chicken. Best in OBX. Always fresh if you order and then pick-up. Usually a 30 min wait. Side have gotten a bit expensive over the last couple of years. Still worth it. Expectations were low as we pulled in the lot and saw a tiny window with take out only. We pre ordered 4 whole fried chickens. We had to pick up because they don't deliver outside of Duck. But man oh man were we wrong. The chicken was moist, well seasoned and had a delicious crispy breading. We picked up in Duck and drove it back to Corolla reheated in the oven and served with the sides that we made. I'll start my review by simply saying my trips to OBX usually consist of a steady diet of seafood, seafood and even a little seafood. Coming from Ohio it's often hard to get quality seafood. We decided to venture out to go with the flow but end up at yet another seafood restaurant. We tried one and decided the wait was just too long and that we'd look to grab something on the way back toward the beach house. We noticed this place on Yelp but only saw one review, but the 3 of us were starving so we thought we'd give it a shot. Called ahead, got there and loved the simplicity of the the pickup window. The guys working there were friendly and efficient. The 3 minute ride home was just enough for my wife and I to look at each other when the smell started to overtake the car. "Holy hell, it smells amazing" or something to that effect was said. We got the 2 bird combo for the family and that is a ton of food. The chicken was honestly the best fried chicken I've ever eaten in my life with a quality thicker breading that melts in your mouth. The Mac n cheese is also other worldly in it's deliciousness. My teenager is a super picky eater and he could not get enough. I honestly looked at his plate after his 3rd helping and was thinking if he eats any more I'm gonna have to flip the table over because that's interfering heavily with my "leftover" plans. Ha! Also came with coleslaw (meh), not a coleslaw guy but the wife enjoyed that too. I can honestly say with being 4 days into a week of gorging myself on seafood, this was the best meal I've had the entire week. We had no expectations of how good it would be other than that it would be edible and hold us over till we get to dinner. To our surprise, the chicken and fries we ordered we sooooo good. I tried a piece when we got home and it was delicious. It had a slight spice to it which gave it a really good flavor. The coating was crispy while the chicken was moist. OK.I am a down right fried chicken snob. From the best supermarket deli to artisanal small batch free-range ridiculously overpriced hipster varieties, we know our deep fat fried bird. Cookshak is a top notch showing! Super proper crispy (even after a 15 minute ride for delivery) and not over greasy. Lots of pepper on the finish. Juicy and fresh taste. Sizeable portions, like they actually use a properly grown, full roaster bird. Eat here, you will be completely in fried chicken heaven while vacationing in this wonderful place. Besssst fried chicken in OBX! We've ate here twice now- each time we've grabbed the tender basket. Always super hot and fresh! The fries are shoestring and resemble that of that well known franchise with Double Arches which was approved by our two toddlers. The tenders are crispy and juicy and the slaw is a nice compliment to the meal. Definitely a great quick bite spot while waiting for your beach house or out and about.
