Food is prepared for either take out of eaten outdoors. The seating outdoors is old and on a hot day it can get uncomfortable. We were not fans of the bugs and the older picnic tables. Parking right out front. Otherwise park at the waterfront shops and walk across the street. They do lots of takeout orders. You can order ahead. We dined in on their outside patio. Some tables have shade and umbrellas while others are just in the sun. Food was fresh and came out fast. My mahi sandwich was a bit dry even with a request of mayo. Probably more breading than dish. This is not a "Deli" so if you are looking for a "Deli" with a variety of "Deli" sandwiches this is not it. Check out the menu first, we didn't because we assumed with the word "Deli" in the name it would be like all the other 100,000 Deli's in this country with "Subs" and Deli Meats which they do not have. We ordered the PHILLY CHEESE STEAK. The meat was macerated into a finely minced texture, the mushrooms seemed canned. My wife thought maybe the meat or cheese was on the edge of going bad. It was placed on a plain soft white bread roll. The French fries were hot, but likely reheated (fried twice). We were the only ones in the place. If you are looking for a "Deli" you would be better off going to any of the "chain sub/deli locations, convenience stores that sell "deli" sandwiches, or any grocery store with a "Deli" that makes or sells sandwiches. read more

Got their pulled pork sandwich -- it was loaded with meat, like that they give you a side of sauce so you can add as much or little as you like. Pork was good alone. The Duck Deli is a real gem. The food has never let us down and we've come here many times over the years. This visit we had the Cold Ham and Cheese Sub, Cheeseburger, and Bacon Cheeseburger. The burgers are a family favorite and one of the best we've ever had. The sub was full of flavor and the fries are always fresh and crispy. They also had delicious homemade fudge, key lime pie, and chocolate cake. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. The place is clean and has a wonderful coastal diner vibe. Open from 11am -3pm. There's nit enough sitting available inside,and the tables are very small (chairs are not as sturdy) but there's plenty of picnic tables on the back patio. There's a variety of Appetizers, Deli Subs, Speciality, and Deli Sandwiches. They have a small selection of beer. Placed an online order for chicken fingers french fries and a side of hush puppies with a sweet tea. The chicken fingers were decent, but the hush puppies were hard and black. Seriously over cooked. The fries were mushy and looked like they had been sitting around too long. When we picked up the order they forgot to include the iced tea, so had to ho back in for it. We stopped by for a quick bite to eat for lunch while doing some shopping. This place doesn't look like much from the outside, but the food is delicious! It's definitely more than just a deli, so don't let the name fool you. They had a pretty good selection of food to choose from. You order and pay then they will bring the food out to you whenever it's ready. There's no seating inside, but there's a nice shaded seating area outside with picnic tables. I ordered the special of the day which was their pulled bbq chicken sandwich and it was really good. You have options of different sauces to choose from so I went with the mustard based bold sauce. It had a kick to it and was very flavorful. I went for some fries for my side and they were the nice and crispy kind. All of the employees were really nice and helpful. The portions were huge and the cost was reasonable. It would have been what we paid back home for BBQ but this is Carolina and in OBX... so we expected a much higher bill and we're pleasantly surprised. My husband had the pulled pork meal with hush puppies, baked beans, and cole slaw. It easily could have fed 2 people. He barely said a word to me during the meal because it was so good. I had the pulled chicken with fries. I normally do not like fries and end up giving them to the kids. The kids did not get these fries. They were excellent. Flaky, crispy and fresh out of the fryer. Also the cole slaw was so crunchy it was clearly fresh. My daughter had the fish sandwich and she inhaled it. Delicious. My son had a burger- for a 6 year old to say nothing and eat every bite of his meal without making a mess... well I take it that it was to his liking! The store front is little, clean and cute, workers are polite and efficient, and it seems they really care about locals because I saw some merchandise that was being sold to support the community. All in all- this place should be at the top of every list of places to stop and eat. We sat outside to eat and while today was chilly and overcast- I can imagine that under the big trees is pretty comfortable in the hot summer days. We will be back next time we are in OBX. read more

We wanted some takeout to enjoy in our room after a long day at the beach and Duck Deli was nearby with decent reviews. First off, "Deli" is perhaps a tad misleading...sure you can choose from a handful of traditional deli sandwiches but this isn't a place with a stack of cold cuts and ready to prep items lining the wall in cases. And while you can grab a few 6 packs, water, cola, or pre-prepared desserts, it's not stocked full of quirky or convenient deli items. What this is, is a great takeout spot with a solid set of basic options. If you only order one thing, make sure you order at least 4 of the chicken wings. These aren't soggy, greasy, or subpar buffalo wings. These are huge wing portions (thighs included) that are slow-smoked and flavorful. Delicious down to the bone, perfect flavoring without being salty. Really, really good. The burgers are excellent too. I opted for the "Duck Buster Burger" which was maybe a bit bigger than I needed! I did eat it all though, so it is definitely worth the calories. Two big smoky patties with some BBQ sauce and pulled pork as well as an onion ring on top. I could have used some mustard, mayo, or cheese between the patties to kind of glue them together but that's a minor quibble. If I went back, I'd go simpler with a bacon (single patty) cheese burger but I'm glad I tried this one at least once. Grabbed a piece of chocolate cake and I was set. Prices are really reasonable across the board and the service is super friendly--they were having credit card machine issues (as was the rest of the road for an hour or so due to an accident) but worked with me to process it old school so I wouldn't miss out on my meal. Super cute spot! Ordered the smoked tuna salad on a gluten free roll. Very few gluten free & pescatarian options which is okay and expected at a BBQ place. The wait staff was very knowledgeable about allergies and were able to tell me that the fries are covered in a batter with gluten and offered to put my sub on a gluten free roll. The roll was an extra $1.5 charge and worth it. Instead of fries they have ruffle chips as a side. Gluten free roll isn't on the menu but they have them! Outside dining area is very cute. read more

Been coming to the Outer Banks with our family and friends for quite some time and Duck Deli was always a fan favorite. I just wanted to take some time to write this to show management and the staff our gratitude for their establishment. My brother, friend, and I were heading out tonight and got some take out cheesesteaks from DD. Being from PA and eating at a variety of cheesesteaks in Philadelphia, Duck Deli had some high expectations to live up to. The meat was good, cheese was american (which is fine for me), and the bread was okay. It could be their bread supplier or maybe they didn't toast it the right amount. Anyway, I still really enjoyed it and was satisfied. The cheesesteaks are just a minor part of Duck Deli as many of their other options really exceed expectations.
