We're visiting from California celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and were looking for a date night restaurant. Bacquet's was fantastic!!! Tried this place on the advice of a francophile friend. Had my doubts as to whether or not this was the real McCoy, as I am French and very familiar with that cuisine, and lo and behold, it is the real deal. Friendly and fast service, warm welcome and very good food. Wine list is not really available as you can just walk to the cellar and enjoy all the offerings. We started by the coquilles St Jacques (bay scallops). Well, this was my choice as hubby was not interested in a 1st course. He promptly changed his mind after tasting the delish garlic/butter/cheese toppings. He also got over the guilt of eating half my order in a jiffy... Upon the recommendation of our waitress we spilt the seafood pasta, pictured below. Very tasty! Chocolate mousse is more of a milk chocolate mousse and not quite as intensely chocolatey as what I prefer, but it was good. Topped this with a nice sauvignon blanc from France. Chef/owner came out and we chatted a bit, nice guy. Will return for sure. read more

Wow!! This beautiful, quaint restaurant has the most delicious food. I was visiting my son and we both came here for lunch. I Love french onion soup and so many restaurants do not have it on their menu. So I was excited to try it. It was the most incredible French soup I have ever had!! My son's chicken dish was so moist and savory. The chef / owner Franck came over to our table to talk. Such a genuine nice person and amazing chef. The staff was friendly and courteous. I have been to many upscale restaurants and this place is now at the top of my list. I am looking forward to returning the next time I am in the area. We visited Bacquet's Restaurant for a dinner on Friday. Made reservations one week prior. Nice atmosphere, good service, free soda water on tap. We had the house salad ($8.50) which was rather small but the dressing was good. As a main course I had the Wild King Salmon Champenoise ($30) - the salmon was cooked well, the sauce was delicious, the rice with veggies was rather bland and the veggies were a bit over cooked. My husband liked his dish (pork, prawns, rice, $30). For dessert we had the apple tart with ice cream ($12) which was good and the flourless chocolate cake ($8) which was excellent (not too sweet and perfect texture). I also ordered coffee which was never delivered. Good selection of wines. read more

Well, I was a bit suspect walking into this dining experience because the reviews were quite variable. Nice ambiance with a French focus. Very cool. Service was quite pleasant. Awesome menu with many unique options. Great escargot and French onion soup. I had the lamb tenderloin. Phenomenal sauce and great lamb. Awesome. My wife had the Gorgonzola pork tenderloin, she loved it as well. Food was superb. Odd scenario after dinner, they accidentally tossed our leftovers. The server came and told us the situation. Gave us the option of not charging corkage or remaking the meal so we had leftovers. They ended up remaking the meal and not charging corkage. I was truly impressed with this service. What does it hurt you to be kind? What is your problem with old ladies? Well, the French are at it again. Food so good you want to lick the plate, and so rude you want to slap 'em. Lunch with my mother. Waiter was very nice. Mom stepped away from the table to go to the restroom, and got yelled at across the restaurant, "Ma'am, do you have a mask?" (of course she did, we needed them to enter), "You need to put it on." That woman could've been heard outside. There was a much better way to handle. Not sure if I'll return. read more

We discovered this gem last summer and since we're not comfortable going to restaurants these days we ordered takeout. My husband and I both decided on the pork gorgonzola- it was delicious, and enough for leftovers (we still ate it all at once because we just could not stop!). The food came with salad (the vinaigrette was excellent) and a dessert. Dessert was a layered super fluffy cake with chocolate and vanilla mousse. Yummy! Our little ones gobbled down their Quiches and we could tell they enjoyed their food as much as we did. I was lucky to grab a tiny bite of the quiche and it was just perfection. SO proud that this restaurant enforces the mask mandate!!!! Too bad it takes such bravery and to be punched just asking a patron to wear a mask. When ever in Boise, Bacquet's restaurant is an absolute must. My wife and I believe it's the very best of Boise. After living in and traveling Europe for nearly 28 years (my wife is Italian), Bacquet's captures and brings to Eagle and the greater Boise area, excellent French cuisine. It's a wonderful choice for a special evening event, or, for just dropping in for a casual lunch. We've become somewhat irregular regulars and have enjoyed our meals immensely every time we've dined there. It's never disappointed. This evening I enjoyed the Seafood Pasta, my wife chose the Salmon topped with crab, both were superb, and beyond our expectations. Chef Franck ( Bacquet) and his lovely wife are wonderful hosts, moreover, a Chef who's cooked for Steffi Graf and others luminaries in Europe is absolutely good enough for our family. My partner and I were excited to try this restaurant after seeing the positive reviews but had a very different dining experience than what others have shared. Our waitress was cold and unwelcoming. She spent the minimum amount of time at our table. And when she did come by she appeared impatient and inconvenienced. Did I mention we went here for my birthday? Don't expect a free dessert by the way if you come here on yours The escargot was good. We got a meat and cheese board that looked thoughtlessly thrown together and the waitress took no time to explain what was on it when she brought it out. There was for example a suspicious grey blob that I would've liked to know more about. Was it cheese? Was it meat? I'm not sure but it tasted like an unlaundered sock Our main entree came out after over an hour of waiting. I got the Kobe beef steak with prawns, the most expensive item on the menu. The prawns were ok but the meat was tough and slightly burnt on the outside. My partner had salmon that was so over seasoned that he had to scrape it off to eat it We will not be going back Re to owner: For other special occasions, I have gone to Petite 4 (a fabulous French restaurant that I was hoping yours would hold a candle to) and Chandlers and have received special desserts. I'm not sure that Applebees does give a free dessert on your birthday, your restaurant may be more comparable to them. I hope that you will you have the "courage" to ask your servers to treat guests more favorably. As a diner at a fine dining establishment that's not my responsibility that's yours. read more

Everything here is made from scratch. We went on a Tuesday night when they have live music. The ambiance is very good although acoustics can make it slightly loud if there is a large party or the musicians are playing. Bacquet's restaurant, being French, supports their cuisine with a large selection of French wines from various appellations, particularly Burgundy or Bordeaux in both white and red. They have a wine bar where you can taste wines to narrow your selection by the glass or bottle. There is a tremendous amount of attention to detail in food handling, preparation, and cooking. We started off with appetizers of Lobster Bisque (a special) and Coquilles au Gratin (scallops). The scallops were outstanding and notably were not salty, which I find is a common mistake in most restaurants. The owners, who I spoke with take great care to minimize salt levels. The lobster bisque was a style that we had never tasted before. It had no cream, and came with intricately seasoned croutons. The bisque was a brown broth that had been seeped from the lobster body/shell for two days in a hot pot and was fortified with Sherry. However the lobster was added in chunks instead of being pureed. We did not particularly care for the overall taste and texture, which is unfortunate because the owner explained how lengthy the process was to create it. But I was glad to have experienced such a special dish. The warm french bread was soft on the inside with a hard crust outside and was delicious! I ordered the Sea Bass special which had a superb cream sauce with capers. It had some lemon in it but was done perfectly such that the ingredient complemented the sauce instead of overwhelming it. Again, the dish was not oversalted. The sea bass was never frozen and the quality was evident. The vegetables were steamed green beans and whole baby carrots that were soft and delicious, as well as a side of saffron rice. My wife had the Prawn Aglio e Olio, large tiger shrimp in a light oil sauce with wide, thin, pasta noodles and chili flakes. It was spicy and delicious and I would put it up against the best northern Italian restaurants. Portions were ample and the Prawn Aglio was a large serving. Pricing can get expensive for entrees here but ours were $39.50 and $32.50 respectively which I thought was good value for the quality received. I ordered a Burgundy Chardonnay which paired very well with my creamy Sea Bass, although it was not as buttery as some. My wife had a fine French Chenin Blanc which had a little sweetness and paired perfectly with the spicy Prawn Aglio. I really enjoyed the owners, who obviously took great pride in their work but come across as sincere, humble and pleasant hosts. This is a great venue for special occasions and they will cater events as well. I recommend that you try this one as it is unique in the Treasure Valley. read more

I can't say enough good things about this restaurant that my husband come back to time and time again. The French ambiance is romantic and intimate. They have a wine selection you won't find anywhere else to pair with cuisine that is prepared to perfection. While they have much more sophisticated French dishes, my staple favorite is Croque Monsieur with a green salad, my husband loves their escargot, and the La Puissie Sancerre Blanc from the upper Loire Valley was a nice compliment. Our server was superb and the husband and wife proprietors are hands on in every aspect to ensure the highest quality experience is had. read more

Enjoyed an amazing dining experience last night at Bacquet's. The French Onion soup is incredibly flavorful. I agree it's the best I've ever had. I don't have the words for the sauce that accompanied the prawns and kobe beef----delicious, fantastic, amazing, exquisite may come close. The ambiance is the perfect mix of rich and casual. I would be comfortable dressed up or in jeans/shorts like we were after a day of sightseeing. Our little dog was welcomed with his own water, meal and sitting area. The owners and wait staff were very friendly and welcoming. Looking forward to visiting again soon to try the recommended seafood pasta and rack of lamb. read more

It began badly with us waiting at our table for 20 minutes before anyone even approached us to see if we were ready to order. At the end of the meal, It took 20 min see the waitress, we were with water and drinks while we waited patiently after finishing our meal. When she did show up , it took another 30 to get our check when we said we had a movie to catch. We only got it after asking a second time 30 minutes later. The waitress actually said, oh that's right you need your check. This is after waiting 30 minutes! Drinks were always empty, wonderful selection of potatoes, but they could've used a little more butter and there was no one to ask because there was -- no service! Food was wonderful : cheese platter was a great variety. French Onion soup was the best I ever had. The salad had one choice of dressing and was awesome. Salmon was perfectly cooked and delicious. Ribeye was good for my husband. There are so many good things about this little restaurant... But it was not worth the complete lack of service. It was especially frustrating for my husband who saw other tables around us getting service, while he had nothing to drink. My husband will not go back because of the absolutely horrible service unless The manager contacts us as we were told she would. We paid $150 and were ignored continually. This is not what fine dining is about. When we talk to the manager, he could do nothing but take our name and phone number. I'm sure he did not know that I'm an international blogger with thousands of hits on my site every week, nor did I threaten him with this information. I guess we will see if reviews on the site About bad service and hostile management are deserving. I will place an edit if I ever do hear from that manager. I visited Bacquets on a Thursday evening with a reservation. During this visit, I got the worst service I have ever received at any restaurant. We arrived just before our time, waited for a table to be prepared and everything was going well - ordered appetizers, dinner and picked out a bottle of wine. We didn't get bread with our appetizers until we reminded our waiter. But once our entrees came out, we were checked on within a few minutes of receiving them and then ignored for over 30 minutes. We tried to make contact, but our waiter and the other staff almost seemed like they were actively avoiding us. We saw tables all around us getting service by our waiter and others. It was busy and they were a bit understaffed, but there was no interaction with us after that first check-in from the entrees. Once our waiter finally came by, no apologies or anything - it was almost like he totally forgot we had been ignored. It really soured the night, and made our visit really upsetting. We had visited previously about a year ago, we got stellar service, but that was not what occurred this Thursday night. In total, we were at the restaurant for almost 2 hours, with most of that time just waiting for service. It is really unfortunate because the food was wonderful, but because of the total lack of service, I cannot recommend this restaurant. read more

Best restaurant experience we've had since we moved to Boise six years ago. Service was as good as it gets, and the food was excellent. I had the steak with prawns and wife had the scallops. A little French wanna-be in the middle of nowhere Boise Idaho! I was there for a business trip and stumbled upon this little restaurant. I was intrigued with all the 5 stars on Yelp. I had to try it. I started with the escargot. It was on the chewier side and darker in color than I expected. The size was definitely much larger than the ones in France...possibly a completely different breed. The flavor was butter butter and extra butter. Perhaps they tried to cover up the less than superior quality of the escargot with extra butter and garlic. The next course was the restaurant's self claimed "Famous French Onion Soup". I'm not sure who proclaimed that title but it didn't live up to it. It was over-baked. The cheese was burnt and inedible after the first bite. The bread was soggy with no texture. The broth was watery with no flavor depth. It was almost as though they opened up a can of Campbell's Beef Broth and poured it over torn up Wonder Bread and topped it off Velveeta Cheese and threw it under the broiler for 15 minutes. Voila...French Onion Soup! The next course was Garlic Shrimp. It lived up its name...shrimp and garlic! Nothing to rave about other than don't order that on a date unless you're avoiding that good night kiss. The final course was Creme Brûlée. It was as expected...creamy, sweet and a little burnt. They could have torched the sugar more to allow for my spoon to crack the top shell. Instead my spoon just sunk in without the initial thrill of the crack. The wine selection was subpar. They take pride in taking you to their "wine library" to show you their collection. It was no different than waking down Safeway's wine aisle. There was nothing spectacular. Just overpriced usual suspects. I opted for a glass of their "French" Chardonnay. When I saw the label, I laughed because I saw the same label at a gas station called Tom's Thumb in Scottsdale, Arizona (not France). I think it was selling for $14.99. Its really, really cute. To create such ambiance in a strip mall in eagle is really amazing! How you order your wine by walking yourself to the wine bar and sampling everything is really unique. The guitar singer is romantic. Its nice... That being said the food has to back up all that ambiance and it falls short. Not because its not good, but because its overpriced. The $15 french onion doesn't work Im sorry, its ok/good- not great, and not the best ever as the menu claims. The pork gorgonzola- delicious sauce, is it a $27 entree? No more like $22. The seafood pasta was a stand out! Huge portion of so much seafood, delightful flavors. I will say the opera cake was executed perfectly. I am familiar with the technical standard of how its supposed to be and this was spot on. Its a place you would visit a few times a year. If the pricing were slightly better it would tip the scales to visit more often as it is a special place in the area. read more

I haven't written a Yelp review in quite a while, but I had to log in to review this wonderful restaurant! Yesterday was my husband's birthday, and I wanted to surprise him with a special dinner date. I was nervous and wanted everything to go well as we rarely have evenings out since having our daughter. After doing my research, Bacquet's looked promising! We started our meal out at the small bar and were able to taste a few wines before making our selection. Our waiter was wonderful with his suggestions and found us the perfect wine based on our preferences. Shortly after, we were treated to lovely live music with an adorable set of romantic songs. The singer was a delight. We were served a nice crusty bread with butter for the table. Next, we ordered apps! We selected the pate and scallops with saffron. Oh my gosh. They were amazing! The pate was savory yet smoky, with a wonderful richness. The scallops were cooked to perfection, and the sauce was its perfect companion. For our entrees, we ordered the duck confit and etouffee. The portions were generous and again, a total slam dunk. I had the etouffee and the shrimp was tender, the vegetables still had a nice bite to them, and everything was seasoned and sauced perfectly. Our dishes arrived to the table piping hot and fresh! For dessert, we ordered the opera cake and chocolate mousse. Again, perfection! Our entire evening we were also provided with excellent service. Our waiter was attentive, friendly, and just lovely. I'm so glad I chose this restaurant for our special evening! We have traveled to France and this establishment is an excellent representation of the amazing dining France has to offer. Two words. HALIBUT CHEEKS. Being a well traveled foodie in her fifties, it's a freak incident when I come across something I've never eaten before. Had an incident last night here while celebrating my mom's 86th. Ate the cheeks of an unfortunate fish prepared piccata style with roasted veggies and fingerling potatoes. And loved every outstanding bite of it. Contributing equally to the wonderment of our evening was the service. We were treated like friends. I always appreciate the opportunity to meet the artist behind the food and was honored to do so at the end of our meal. If you saw Eater magazine's 25 Essential Restaurants in Boise, this place is like Petite 4's older, more traditional cousin. However, you can actually get a table in this place, because it's not the size of a shoebox. Why this place isn't also on the list of the 25 essential restaurants, but an ice cream shop and a bar that doesn't serve food are on the list is just beyond me. In any case, this is one is on my shortlist in Idaho I would go for food with a french twist, along with Petite 4. I've been here twice now. The food here is quite exceptional, prepared with care and love, and the Chef has high-standards. I appreciate that he'd rather send back a bad cut of beef to where he bought it and 86 it from the menu for a week, rather than have something sub-par go out the table. The menu is very much French-inspired but has a nouveau twist and other entrees for people who don't like their food heavily sauced. That being said, this restaurant runs more towards the traditional on saucing and preparation. The menu focuses on fewer items done well, but that being said I don't think anyone will be at a lack for choices or disappointed with their meals. The other thing I absolutely love about this restaurant is that it takes its wines seriously. In the Treasure Valley, the only restaurants that seem to understand their wines are this one and Fork. Here, rather than having a separate Sommelier like Fork, they seem to spend a lot of time educating all the servers on what wines they are featuring. That's a welcome change that I wish more restaurants would adopt. The atmosphere is a little cluttered, but cute. They sometimes feature live music. The Chef is a bit of a character and likes to come out and mingle with the guests, making sure everything is okay. This restaurant is the perfect venue to impress a date. read more

We have been about 5 times. Always had excellent service and good food. Different and unique seafood specials offered. I had salmon belly but there was a lobster pasta that also sounded delicious. I really enjoyed the seafood pasta on the regular menu. I did not take a picture but I see other people posted pics of it. It comes in a big Paella pan. I took the leftovers home and ate it for 3 meals, thats how big it is. My husband got the veal picatta twice so he obviously liked that. We went in the summer and sat on the patio and had wine and appetizers also, which were good. They don't have a wine menu. They ask you to go to the bar and pick out wine, but both times we ate dinner I just asked the server to bring me a glass of something that would go with my dinner and they did.
