Went on a Saturday night to chill and watch some fights and football in addition checking out the place for a possible large group party. Surprised to be turned away as we didn't have the proper "dress attire" in addition to another group being turned away for the same thing. Although there were shorts and Jorts inside the doorman turned us and the other group away abruptly because there was a member of the groups wearing none ripped, none torn, none tethered in fact very nice comfortable pants with pockets that he called "sweats" and told us that jeans only (in an outdoor establishment with 100+ degree weather). Understandable that any establishment can choose whom they want to serve and has the right to refuse a customer we left however wanted to see the dress attire to maybe return in the future only to find on their website that "What is your dress code? We require shoes and shirts. Kindly refrain from attire such as bathing suits." Needless to say we will NOT be going back and have lost a very loyal customer even before we got the chance to be a customer. Absolutely amazing experience at Backyard Gilbert! We arrived around 6 PM for dinner, and even though there was a bit of a wait (it was packed with the Ohio State game on--wild atmosphere!), our hostess Zsanique went above and beyond to make it enjoyable. She kept us updated on the wait, got us seated as quickly as possible, and carried on a fun, easygoing conversation while we waited. Her energy was fantastic, and she made us feel so welcomed despite how busy it was. Definitely the kind of service that makes you want to come back again and again! Decided to try out and walked in and got seated super fast but then after that waited for 25 minutes and then got ahold of someone to serve us and then she said didn't even know we were there although she walked by us a few times. Asked if any specials and she said they start at 3 and so we asked for waters then that took forever and when she came back forgot it was Sunday and no specials and then we asked to different beers they were out ??? I was excited to try the Backyard since my husband and I frequently visited the Sandbar and were so sad to see it go. However we were completely blown away. We were instantly greeted and seated with 4 of us by the sweetest hostess. She didn't just say follow me and run to the table like most hosts, she asked us how our day was asked if we've ever been here before, even gave us some pointers on popular items to try. 10/10 on the hostesses you hired! We were lucky to get KP as our waitress and she was a knockout! On top of it all recommendations were top notch. Our drinks were fast KP was quick and always checked in with us to make sure we were taken care of and the food was so good! Most of it is handmade there! Unlike a lot of places.. we started off with the artichoke dip and it was delicious! I didn't care for the naan bread I felt it was a little toasty but still tasted great. My husband had the Backyard burger and fries. Do NOT forget to ask for ranch. It's the absolute best. The burger was amazing, if you love spicy then this is most definitely for you. It's freaking hot. But it's sooooo worth it! The fries idk what they do to them but they are so flaky and flavorful. I would almost put them at my top 1 of fries in town. I got the Lettuce Wraps and they were very tasty and I hate peanut sauce but I thought id give it a shot. A must try for sure! My sister got the Green Goddess salad, that dressing was out of this world good. I thought the salad needed more but my sister said it was perfect. (I would ask for more on the side ) our drinks were amazing I got the cactus cooler and I can't remember what my sister got but it was good! Me, my boyfriend, and my mom came here last night just for some fun and drinks. My mom and I were starving so we were planning to get food. When we all first got there ( we showed up at the bar separately 1 by 1) they attended us right away with our first drinks. There were only 2 male bartenders. After those first drinks it was like we weren't there anymore. we literally had to wave someone down for everything. And I mean everything. They should've asked us if we were ordering food or if we even wanted menus. After getting our first drinks we were waiting for them to check on us so we could ask for menus. It was after 9pm so we weren't sure when the kitchen closed. We finally had to ask for our menus and again... waiting for someone to check on us so we could order. Had to grab someone's attention to order. After that, all night long they never ever stopped by to ask if we needed another drink. They walked by us so many times, even took away my boyfriend's empty beer glass and didn't even ask if he wanted another beer. At one point I saw one of the bartenders giving much attention to a group of good looking, skinny, crop-top wearing girls next to us ... serving them beers but not us. My mom left early and again... had to wave someone down to get her tab. We left an hour later and had to get someone's attention to get our tab as well. One bartender must've went home cause he disappeared for the rest of the night. The bar was full when we got there. There was a decent amount of people but it was slowly dying out so it wasn't THAT busy. The food was great. Came out in a timely matter. Music was awesome and fun. But the bartending service was just terrible. And I can't say it enough we literally at to ask them for every single beer, when we wanted menus, when we wanted to order, and when we wanted our tab. They never checked on us once after getting our first beer. We were sitting there with no glasses in front of us at one point and still... nothing. Even though they walked by us multiple times. We watched them walk by and waved our hands in the air like "what the hell?" My boyfriend was very upset. Your bar busser was doing a better job than the bartenders. I really want to come back here because the atmosphere is fun and it's right next to where we live. My boyfriend on the other hand doesn't. I'll start with the good. Huge TV in the middle of the room and one of the servers said that they sometimes let people play Mario Cart on them and that sounds super fun. Vibe is fun. I had a spicy margarita and it was delicious. My husband had a mule and then a Paloma. He loved them both. My first drink was their premium or platinum marg (can't remember the name) but it was $15 and on no where on the description did it say it had vanilla in it but it most definitely did and that is a solid yuck for me! I ordered their nachos which were $18 and thought the description sounded a bit lack luster with no beans. I went ahead and ordered because I mean if you're charging $18 for nachos they must be epic. I added the $6 chicken which then brought the price tag up to $24 for nachos. Yikes! On a scale of 1-10 I'll give these a 2. They forgot to put the cheese sauce on, which they did bring a side of it but it was VERY salty. The chicken looked almost boiled. Had no seasoning and was tough and rubbery to eat. They didn't even come with sour cream or salsa. Totally disappointing! My husband got the carne streak tacos and they were pretty good. Service was okay. Slow and she had no knowledge of the margaritas which was a let down. But I'll be back for Mario cart and the spicy marg. I'll never order those nachos again and honestly I'm considering picketing them for allowing such a disgrace on their menu. Sad!!!! Oh and the guacamole is like super light in color and had no flavor but also at the same time a truly epically weird flavor. Barf! Absolutely the worst service I have ever had. Waited and wanted for drinks. Had tp ask for things like water and glasses several times. I can't tell you how you food tasted I never got it. After everyone received their food I asked two different people about my food. Finally I was told there was a problem in the kitchen they could prepare my meal to go and did I want anything else while I waited. I ordered the bravarian pretzel. We spoke to the manager who told us they were having issues in the kitchen and we were not the only table that had this issue with andvshe would comp our meals. She evidently did not convey this to our server. She dropped off our bills and disappeared. After waiting for a lo g while we got up to leave and ended up paying at the register. Our meals were not comped and she rung up the wrong bills. My husband actually went looking through the restaurant for the manager who was no where to be found. We went to Backyard today for the first time since it changed ownership from SandBar. The service at the bar was spot on. Appreciate them We ordered off of the Hapoy Hour Menu. The menu said that the happy hour special was 1/2 off the burger. Little did we know that it was also a smaller portion than the regular menus. So, it's not really 1/2 off but a discounted smaller portion of regular menus items. If they would have told me that then I would have ordered a full size order. Just tell us the real deal. Doubt I would take the time to come back. There are to many other options. read more

I was a loyal Sandbar customer for Sunday football for almost 4 years every Sunday when it closed I was so disappointed, but was told not to worry because I knew an improved new restaurant called the Backyard was coming. So I was invited by several employees to Grand open the new Backyard in Scottsdale, which was beautiful and fun and amazing service and great food and I was so excited about the Gilbert location opening. I typically bring about 10 people every Sunday with me and we spend a lot of money But when it comes to showing Football, they do not have their shit together The problem is with the general manager, Kellie she has attitude toward customers and pretty much arresting bitch face all the time. She's always frustrated and does not know how to how to speak to customers. Last week I reserved a table table 45. I got there at 9:30 30 minutes before my reservation and she'd give them my table away to somebody else. She was even rude about it didn't really even care. And this morning we got there 945 and we tried to reserve a table for 1 PM for eight people, but they said they weren't gonna allow anybody to make reservations. Can you make a reservation for eight people that will typically spend around $500? Then of course at 1:25 the biggest game of the week comes on 49ers and Chiefs, but they want to play the sound of the Carolina game the worst game and team in football for the day. This just shows that they know nothing about sports. Nothing about football or their customer or their environment everybody in the place complaining . I went to the DJ and ask him to change the sound please to the 49er game. He said it's up to the manager. . I thought wow now I gotta go talk to this lady as I asked her to change the sound she said two things it's up to the DJ and it would take a complete reset of the whole system to change the sound Well, unless I get a new manager here, I'm never coming back and I've already talked to everybody. I know that comes here every Sunday and we will all choose a different location until they get somebody that understands customer service their customers and Sports the thing is as they have amazing food, the places, incredible and what a great vibe to have such a shitty manager running the place . read more

I'll start by saying we've only been once, and I'd probably rate this place a 4.5 since they haven't worked out all the opening kinks yet, but I'm rounding up because I don't think the people giving one star for being turned away for dress code or the guy who gave one star simply because the chicken wings did not meet his standards are being fair. This place is a huge improvement over Sandbar! They've stepped up the food and the atmosphere. We would never have gone back to Sandbar, but were impressed with Backyard Gilbert and will go back. I'm glad they are enforcing a dress code as it will probably keep the pace safer than it was before. Sandbar had some issues and I think this place is more in line with what the residents of Gilbert want. An outdoor patio vibe that is indoors and allows dogs is perfect for our town! We went on a Saturday, the Ohio State game was on and we didn't have a reservation, so we had a 40 min wait, which we thought was reasonable. We were able to get a drink and an appetizer at the bar while we waited. The bartender was really nice. Our server was also friendly and helpful. Food service was a little slow, but they were busy and just opened, so I think it was completely within reason. I'm so tired of people dragging businesses through the mud over slight inconveniences or because they didn't follow the business' rules. I'm glad those types of people won't go back because the normal people don't want you party poopers there anyway! :) If the owner sees this, you're on the right track! read more

Food and atmosphere were great! Lots of large TVs to catch the best views of the game! Loved this place! We were invited to a watch party the restaurant hosts each week. When we arrived we let them know the number in our party and they sat us with the group. The manager never came to our table or talked to us after going back and forth with the staff about where we were sitting. He/she (not sure, they never addressed us directly) had the server move our teen kids to a partially open bench table to share with other people. She moved them with all their appetizers meals and drinks so they could seat a new walk-in table. Ironically there was no wait and many other open tables in the restaurant. There were no signs indicating the table was not for us. The host even sat our menus and silverware on both tables. So instead of the manager just coming to talk to us we played telephone with the server and manager who never showed up to our table. I couldn't believe their lack of customer service or common courtesy to address an issue face to face. We were new to the group, there with friends, and watching the game so I didn't raise a fit. My family alone spent well over $600 on food and drinks at that event with the teen kids spending over $250 on their experience. Shocked we were treated that way and that the manager didn't have the know with all to properly address the situation. We were made to feel they didn't want us there. You may have a different experience if you go. it's a cool spot but the manager lacks customer service skills and tact. read more
