I really want to like this place, but I don't. Drinks are pretty good. My last visit I ordered the chicken sandwich, which is just two chicken tenders stuck on a bun. We went there this past Sunday to watch the football playoffs ...got there at 1:15 and was told there were no tables yet there were at least 10, maybe more, that were reserved but was still empty. My friend was heading to the car to go someplace else however i approached the ladies up front and basically complained that you had all these reserved tables with nobody sitting there how can you let us leave? They conferred for a second and then said we'll find you a table. So that was bad but then good but shouldn't have to go through that. Now for the food ...we got the potato skins -Do Not Buy them you will be disappointed only four small skins for $14 however when the bill came it was 14.50 with a note that said the sour cream on the side I guess it cost 50 cents to put it on the side instead of on top of the skin ...how incredibly cheap of management.. The cheesesteak sandwich had mostly bread very little cheese steak. Fried chicken sandwich was decent as were the fries. The Backyard is our new favorite spot in the PHX area! We were there this weekend and they had tons of TV's and large screens all over the place for various sports games, etc. Beautiful and fun concept and the staff is excellent, knowledgeable, and quick to action. The food knocked it out of the park. We tried the shrimp and steak tacos and they were excellent! The brussel sprouts were the best I've ever had in my life. You HAVE to try the cocktails-- I was blown away! They also have an amazing beer selection. The "Blueberry Boyfriend" rocked!! They are also dog friendly! They have a turf section with bags and you can sit out there with your fur babies! The server even grabbed our boy a water bowl with ice! Contrary to other reviews, the management was so helpful to us. The GM was attentive and kind, while dealing with belligerent folks here and there, including a situation in which another patron had to step in to stop this man from screaming at her. I have worked in restaurants for a long time, and she handled it with such grace-- I would have knocked him out! All of this to say-- it was an excellent experience from start to finish. Surprised to be turned away as we didn't have the proper "dress attire" in addition to another group being turned away for the same thing. Although there were shorts and Jorts inside the doorman turned us and the other group away abruptly because there was a member of the groups wearing none ripped, none torn, none tethered in fact very nice comfortable pants with pockets that he called "sweats" and told us that jeans only (in an outdoor establishment with 100+ degree weather). Understandable that any establishment can choose whom they want to serve and has the right to refuse a customer we left however wanted to see the dress attire to maybe return in the future only to find on their website that "What is your dress code? We require shoes and shirts. Kindly refrain from attire such as bathing suits." Needless to say we will NOT be going back and have lost a very loyal customer even before we got the chance to be a customer. Absolutely amazing experience at Backyard Gilbert! We arrived around 6 PM for dinner, and even though there was a bit of a wait (it was packed with the Ohio State game on--wild atmosphere!), our hostess Zsanique went above and beyond to make it enjoyable. She kept us updated on the wait, got us seated as quickly as possible, and carried on a fun, easygoing conversation while we waited. Her energy was fantastic, and she made us feel so welcomed despite how busy it was. Definitely the kind of service that makes you want to come back again and again! Me, my boyfriend, and my mom came here last night just for some fun and drinks. My mom and I were starving so we were planning to get food. When we all first got there ( we showed up at the bar separately 1 by 1) they attended us right away with our first drinks. There were only 2 male bartenders. After those first drinks it was like we weren't there anymore. we literally had to wave someone down for everything. And I mean everything. They should've asked us if we were ordering food or if we even wanted menus. After getting our first drinks we were waiting for them to check on us so we could ask for menus. It was after 9pm so we weren't sure when the kitchen closed. We finally had to ask for our menus and again... waiting for someone to check on us so we could order. Had to grab someone's attention to order. After that, all night long they never ever stopped by to ask if we needed another drink. They walked by us so many times, even took away my boyfriend's empty beer glass and didn't even ask if he wanted another beer. At one point I saw one of the bartenders giving much attention to a group of good looking, skinny, crop-top wearing girls next to us ... serving them beers but not us. My mom left early and again... had to wave someone down to get her tab. We left an hour later and had to get someone's attention to get our tab as well. One bartender must've went home cause he disappeared for the rest of the night. The bar was full when we got there. There was a decent amount of people but it was slowly dying out so it wasn't THAT busy. The food was great. Came out in a timely matter. Music was awesome and fun. But the bartending service was just terrible. And I can't say it enough we literally at to ask them for every single beer, when we wanted menus, when we wanted to order, and when we wanted our tab. They never checked on us once after getting our first beer. We were sitting there with no glasses in front of us at one point and still... nothing. Even though they walked by us multiple times. We watched them walk by and waved our hands in the air like "what the hell?" My boyfriend was very upset. Your bar busser was doing a better job than the bartenders. I really want to come back here because the atmosphere is fun and it's right next to where we live. My boyfriend on the other hand doesn't. I'll start with the good. Huge TV in the middle of the room and one of the servers said that they sometimes let people play Mario Cart on them and that sounds super fun. Vibe is fun. I had a spicy margarita and it was delicious. My husband had a mule and then a Paloma. He loved them both. My first drink was their premium or platinum marg (can't remember the name) but it was $15 and on no where on the description did it say it had vanilla in it but it most definitely did and that is a solid yuck for me! I ordered their nachos which were $18 and thought the description sounded a bit lack luster with no beans. I went ahead and ordered because I mean if you're charging $18 for nachos they must be epic. I added the $6 chicken which then brought the price tag up to $24 for nachos. Yikes! On a scale of 1-10 I'll give these a 2. They forgot to put the cheese sauce on, which they did bring a side of it but it was VERY salty. The chicken looked almost boiled. Had no seasoning and was tough and rubbery to eat. They didn't even come with sour cream or salsa. Totally disappointing! My husband got the carne streak tacos and they were pretty good. Service was okay. Slow and she had no knowledge of the margaritas which was a let down. But I'll be back for Mario cart and the spicy marg. I'll never order those nachos again and honestly I'm considering picketing them for allowing such a disgrace on their menu. Sad!!!! Oh and the guacamole is like super light in color and had no flavor but also at the same time a truly epically weird flavor. Barf! I was excited to try the Backyard since my husband and I frequently visited the Sandbar and were so sad to see it go. However we were completely blown away. We were instantly greeted and seated with 4 of us by the sweetest hostess. She didn't just say follow me and run to the table like most hosts, she asked us how our day was asked if we've ever been here before, even gave us some pointers on popular items to try. 10/10 on the hostesses you hired! We were lucky to get KP as our waitress and she was a knockout! On top of it all recommendations were top notch. Our drinks were fast KP was quick and always checked in with us to make sure we were taken care of and the food was so good! Most of it is handmade there! Unlike a lot of places.. we started off with the artichoke dip and it was delicious! I didn't care for the naan bread I felt it was a little toasty but still tasted great. My husband had the Backyard burger and fries. Do NOT forget to ask for ranch. It's the absolute best. The burger was amazing, if you love spicy then this is most definitely for you. It's freaking hot. But it's sooooo worth it! The fries idk what they do to them but they are so flaky and flavorful. I would almost put them at my top 1 of fries in town. I got the Lettuce Wraps and they were very tasty and I hate peanut sauce but I thought id give it a shot. A must try for sure! My sister got the Green Goddess salad, that dressing was out of this world good. I thought the salad needed more but my sister said it was perfect. (I would ask for more on the side ) our drinks were amazing I got the cactus cooler and I can't remember what my sister got but it was good! I definitely recommend coming here the atmosphere is pretty cool; TVs everywhere but not loud in your face, music plays lots of different styles, the backyard feel is nice.
