Wow this place exceeded expectation. Our server Kenneth was fantastic: timely and attentive, and just so friendly. My husband and I took our kids and parents here, and literally every dish was absolutely amazing. I got the spicy sweet brisket sandwich; my husband got a brisket plate; my in laws got the bacon burger; and my kids got the grilled cheese and chicken nuggets. We are all happily sated and satisfied. Kenneth was so helpful when ordering for picky kiddos too, making sure things wouldn't be too spicy or savory. We've been all over Texas sampling BBQ and my husband smokes brisket, so the bar is set very high. The first visit to Backyard BBQ I knew this place was special. We ordered brisket, a loaded baked potato, catfish, chicken and sides. You can cut the brisket with a SPOON!! I will fly back to Texas just to visit the restaurant again. It is the standard which I compare all BBQ to and no other place comes close. At the time we were there, the seating inside was picnic tables with a banquet room in the back. Family friendly, generous portions, but can get noisy when crowded, as it is an open room. The food comes super fast, and there is a fresh ground pepper mill on each table! There are a few tables with chairs, but most of the seating is at picnic tables with attached benches! Multiple televisions with various sporting events playing. I ordered a beer and looked at the menu and had planned to order some onion rings- they make hand breaded ones and they are delicious. But they were not on these new menus, my heart sank not only that but there were no prices. So I asked the young lady did they discontinue the onion rings, they had once before and brought them back. She said they had left them off these menus accidentally. That is a shame if you were new to the restaurant you would miss one of their signature items. I got a 1/2 order and asked about the pricing - trying to make a joke I said if you have to ask you can't afford to eat here. She pointed to the QR code and said I could see the current prices. I get why more restaurants are doing this with all the changing prices on ingredients to stay profitable but I don't like it . But that being said prices here are reasonable and a good value. After I got my rings I decided to order the ribs this time to go and a bake potato. The potatoes are supposed to be epic but I will let others judge them . YELP 100 CHALLENGE 2018 - PART 2: 53/100 There were a bunch of us Californians who made a trip around this 'hood to celebrate a special occasion. Texas, as it is widely known, is famous for a lot of things, and the one thing we wanted to try out is a true Texan BBQ spot. Family locals suggested this place, so off we went, us party of 13. We were fortunate enough to find a table for us considering we didn't make any reservations. We were seated and given menus promptly. Such a hard time deciding what to get - there were so many I wanted to try! I eventually settled for the 1lb rib plate with a side of fried okra and tater tots. Had I known the servings were going to be huge, I would have just split my plate with another. (For real, though. The portions on every dish I saw was enough to feed two people!) Ribs were fall off the bone delicious. The BBQ sauce was not overpowering at all. Tots and okra were seasoned and fried with a nice light crisp. I also got to try some fried mushrooms, a bite of chicken fried steak, a piece of brisket, fried shrimp, sausage and a bit of pulled pork. There was absolutely NOTHING to complain about any of their food. Not only did it come with quantity, it came with great quality! They really know what they're doing out there! To top it off, Ashley, our server was PERFECT. Price point was also more than reasonable for the amount of food we got. Had plenty of leftovers for a 2nd meal practically for everyone! I rarely give 5 stars on a first time visit, but this one is more than well-deserved! Looking forward to trying many more things on their menu on my future visits! It's been over three years since we last dined at Backyard. Service was very friendly and welcoming. The food not so much. Catfish and fries were cold. The fries were seasoned, the fish was not. One hush puppy cooked perfectly, the other raw in the middle. The Mr. ordered chicken fried steak which was room temperature. No seasoning in the cream gravy. Anything fried should be brought to the table immediately. They were not lacking in staff so there's no excuse for that. The martini was the highlight of the meal. This is the first time here. So many options to choose from. The Ribeye was amazing! 5 stars for sure. Came with three fried shrimp and a grilled onion on top. We split this and it was enough for us but we did get an appetizer and three sides. Two come with the meal and we ordered an extra. Ordered the steak medium and it came out medium. The sides we got were green beans, potato salad, and a side salad. All were good. Our appetizer was the veggie sampler. They let us sub Jalapeño poppers for the fried okra. It came our fast. It also had potato wedges, cheese sticks, and fried mushrooms. It was ok. I really liked a jalapeño poppers but the cheese sticks and mushrooms were of the frozen variety and were just ok. Definitely want to try the homemade onion rings next time. There are at least 10 different burger option. We will try one next time too. We couldn't come here without trying the BBQ. Order 1/4 lb each of the pulled pork and sausage. It was probably 3 stars. Hubby had the banana pudding and it was great! We will be back! So many other things to try. Visited on Father's Day. When we arrived they weren't too busy. I went for ribeye and shrimp. They we're out of ribeye, really? We ordered anyway. The order came out quickly. The shrimp was like freezer shrimp, not fresh battered. The roadhouse steak was very flavorful and the wife enjoyed her fish. When we paid out the first bill was too high, it wasn't ours. (Great choice) The place is really small "dive type" (intentionally) restaurant. Smokers rolling out back. Picnic tables inside- very family friendly. Menu posted on a huge sign on the wall. They had combos and sides that were interesting and fantastic. I got a three meat combo, with green beans and tater tots. The smoke ring on the brisket speaks for itself. I'm currently in Texas and found this small restaurant to eat at. Found the restaurant to be laid out like a back yard,like the name says. Indoor picnic tables with paper towel rolls in the middle. Service service and food are like that a Dickies restaurant if you all know what that is. The brisket was very tender, Smokey and flavorful. It was also very moist and with their barbecue sauce it was very very good. I also had the pulled pork which was some of the most tender pulled pork I ever had melted in my mouth the smoke flavor came right through.My third meat was the sausage which was kind of like a kielbasa texture.I enjoyed it very much. The other platter was pretty similar to the one I had but it had two meats it was the brisket and the chicken. To me the chicken was very good to my guest it was kind of dry. Overall I really enjoyed the restaurant the service was very polite and efficient. They were always there when I needed them.
