I ordered 2lbs sliced brisket I received burnt, dry, salty, fatty brisket very gross. I asked for onions and pickles and sweet sauce I got none and this happens all the time. As the lady handed me my order I asked her was the pickles and onions in the bag she said yes they were not!! I ordered a baked potato told her butter and cheese on the side, it was on the potato. Outstanding Service and Delicious BBQ at Dickey's Barbecue, Belton, TX After church, I was looking for a place to grab some food for the family and decided on Dickey's Barbecue in Belton. I remembered having a discount from Restaurant and my wife had received a 20% off text that very morning. We placed our order online, but the discount wouldn't apply. We headed to the restaurant and placed an order of over $100, but the discount still wouldn't take at the register. The employee went to get the owner, Forrest, to assist. It turns out they had discontinued using Restaurant some time ago, but Forrest graciously honored the 20% discount as a one-time courtesy, which we truly appreciated. FYI-They also honor the military discount. Now, onto the food--everything was fantastic! The brisket was delicious, the chicken was perfectly cooked, the smoked wings were a hit, and the fried okra was crispy and flavorful. All the sides were tasty, and we left satisfied and happy. We will definitely be back soon, not only because of the delicious food but also because of how well we were treated. Not sure where to begin. First off with so many BBQ choices, a restaurant should understand that they have to be more than mediocre. This was maybe below that. The brisket was swimming in oil from the cut that was sooo fatty. The pulled pork and ribs were extremely dry, no smoke flavor or seasoning. I can't even tell it was from a BBQ place, felt like more cafeteria food. The baked beans seemed like they were straight out of a can and the bbq sauce was quite watery. Incredibly displeased with the quality of the food. Ribs are dry, silverskin still on, seemingly reheated; falls off the bone yet the meat is tough. Pulled pork has some sort of seasoning on it that doesn't taste great, too heavy on the nutmeg or something. Brisket cut very thick, dry, won't pull nicely. Negligible smoke ring. Poorly seasoned to boot, very bland. I could make a better brisket in my oven. Mac and cheese is very similar to KFC. Baked beans taste like Bush's reheated in the smoker. Beans were the best part of the meal. Wish the sides portions were a bit bigger for the price. Polish sausage ok, but that's real hard to mess up. Can't comment on potato salad or BBQ sauce because they didn't include it. Overall, the tastiest portions of the meal were the sweet tea (Gold Peak, not homemade) and the beans (suspected canned). Rough time had ordering lunch for office. We ordered online 3 sandwiches. I drove up and walked into gas station 20 minutes later. The lady said there was no order. Went back to the office and my coworker said she ordered online. To make sure, She just called to confirm that Dickey's had received the order. I went back and they apologized. Grabbed the large bag and asked if there was anything else. She said you're good. Upon getting back to the office, we discovered that there was only one sandwich in the large bag. My coworker then drive back again to get the full order. Everyone has bad days. Understood. This was just an extremely rough go and bbq was not good. Sauce gave the flavor and just felt like they had not kept up with modern barbecue. I'll try again just to give them a second chance but no time soon. read more

Food was always passable. Its under new management/ownership now. The only difference now is the pulled pork is drier/stringier than it used to be and the meet portions in general are half the size they used to be. For some reason the new owners have covered up the glass along the serving line so you can no longer see what they are doing. Its pretty common at most bbq places for you to see them getting your meat ready. Prior to the new owners they would actually weigh your meat portion to make sure you were getting what you paid for. Now you can't see what they are doing but for the same price you're only getting half the meat than a year ago. Perhaps they can blame it on covid-19 higher meat prices. But for so-so food and less for your money I'm not going back. Out of curiosity I scanned other reviews. Lots of 5-star "everything is awesome" reviews. Hard to believe they are real. read more

The manager of this location helped me out and provided the best customer service. I got a chopped brisket sandwich with onion, pickles, and original bbq sauce and it. Was. So. Dang. Good. First, this is not a review of the actual restaurant or its employees, since we never actually got to eat a meal there. It is a review of the major frustration-fest called the corporate online ordering app. Here goes, slightly modified from the one I sent their corporate office: As a rewards member, today I was emailed a 2 for 1 coupon deal for 2 meat combos, and decided to make the 20 minute drive to the nearest shop. Got there about 20 minutes before closing, and was told by the very friendly manager they still had plenty of all items, but that the coupon code was only good for online orders. Couldn't just give the code to the people working there, oh no, corporate requires the orders to be placed using your app. So I sat down to order online, entered everything we wanted, but could not come up with the password since it's been nearly 3 years since I ate at Dickey's because it's so far away. After about 10 different attempts, I decided to reset the password, but when I entered the same email as the one where I had received the coupon, it gave me an error and a big red X again. Gave up trying to log in, decided to order as a guest, and completed the order, entered the code, but then it kicked me back to the login and had deleted the code "for future use." I went back through the "order as guest" again, and this time got to the point where it asked for a pickup date and time. But the down arrow did not have any choices at all for today, probably because it was now nearly closing time (20+ minutes after we arrived, entirely spent hassling the online order page). I couldn't complete the order for love or money. There was no way to type anything in to the time slot. I tried talking to the checkout guy, who couldn't help me. By this time, I was steaming more than the meat, and told them we wouldn't be ordering and left. Their nice franchisees lost two double meat orders, and permanently lost two potential customers for ANY Dickeys, anywhere, even if my car breaks down right by one. We drove down the road, now past closing time for most restaurants, and got hamburgers less than 5 minutes after walking in the door. So, bye, bye, Dickey's. Your great coupon means nothing if you cannot access the site, does it? And bye bye to the expensive gas for the 40 mile round trip drive for nothing. read more

Stopped in originally for a snack from the gas station attached, but was immediately greeted by a very friendly woman working the Dickey's. She told me they had their happy hour going on that was $5! No brainer. I was torn at first since they had cheesey/ spicy sausage, but went with the brisket (chopped) and was not disappointed. We've been in Texas for just over a year. Things were starting to get depressing as far as finding a decent BBQ place was concerned. We're talking tears... Dickey's was a last ditch effort, the final straw, the nail in the coffin. Gas station bbq? Things had gotten bad. We'd lost all hope... This is legitimately the best BBQ in the Temple/Belton area. It has become our go-to place. The sauces are great, the BBQ is good, the portions are decent and while the service isn't 5 star, we've never had an issue with the ladies that work behind the counter. It's...reliable bbq... Dickey's is a great place to go for a bite on your next road trip you can get your gas and have a hot and fresh meal the ribs and waffle fries are bomb and everything is hot and delicious definitely recommend the sausage now all that's missing is the cornbread and a nap the staff is friendly and helpful and your so close to the lake. As a rule I don't like to eat in gas stations because the atmosphere sucks which is definitely the case here but also I just don't trust the quality. That might not be fair. Anyway, it was a terrible experience here. It took forever to get to order and then it took forever to get the food. Usually I don't have a problem with that because there might be a good reason I don't know about but when you are asked what sides come with these plates 3 times by 3 different people and none of them can remember what you say-that is a problem. Then there were issues with paying. The food didn't taste bad but isn't anything special. My stomach might have disagreed later on quality. Ok, I originally ordered through grub hub. I called the restaurant to confirm and the order was not put thru.....apparently the restaurant has an acct with grub hub but it has not been fully set up yet. So needless to say I had to get a refund and order thru the restaurant directly. What I found to be strange was that the order thru grub hub gave a pick up of 45 mins but when I called the restaurant it was a 10 min ready for pick up....They do not deliver, which is deceiving when you initially order. I ordered the pulled pork, pecan pie and baked beans. First of all, none of the food was from scratch. The pulled pork was ok, but did not taste authentic. The baked beans was actually pork and beans.....and if you have had pork an beans before you know how it tastes and trying to call it baked beans is not acceptable. So I have been to other locations and was not impressed with their quality but I have to say there is something different about this lil location. I was pleasantly surprised with the taste of their bbq. Now they don't have a full menu here but the ladies were nice and gave a warm Texas welcome when we came up to them. It's in a convenience store so the ambiance is what it is. All in all a great place for a good lunch during the week. I have tried their stuffed backed pirate and that was nice! But one too many of them has my pants cut'n me in half so I since gone to the bbq salad which is kinda like an oxymoron but it's good and I have managed to ease the pain of my jeans giving me a permanent imprint around my waste but the big bonus was the complimentary ice cream at the end, cannot go wrong there. A family favorite! I use to live right down the street, that's how I got started going there but even after moving it's still a destination! Any meat you choose is going to be fall apart tender and very moist. My personal favorite is the chopped brisket baker (loaded baked potato). The biggest baked potato you've ever seen with butter, sour cream, shredded cheese and chives. But it gets sooooo much better! Then they over flow it with chopped brisket and your choice of BBQ sauce (original, spicy or sweet) GET THE SWEET! I could drink their sweet sauce, seriously. They also have a lot of deals on Groupon if you are hesitant to risk the money. Another perk that not many placese can brag about, any fried side you order isn't fried until you order it so it's super fresh! Great loaded baked potato casserole side as well. Go eat!
