Its a decent soul food spot in Killeen. They will not let you inside to order so you have to order from the drive through. Its very tight so don't go whipping through there. The menu is pretty limited but it's enough to pick something. The ham hocks were cooked well however I thought they could have been a little more seasoning on them! The Mac and cheese and collard greens I have the same thoughts. All cooked well just not enough seasoning. The corn bread was ok. The banana pudding was also ok. I mean the best part was the service. Its not nearly as slow as the other spot in Killeen. If they just seasoned their food a little better it would not be a competition. However, I would still pick this one over the other just because we got all this food in 10 mins compared to waiting over an hour and the order not even being right. read more

The prices are very reasonable and the food was delicious with good portions. I had the sampler plater that cost me about $10 and i got 3 meats, 2 sides and a piece of cornbread. I cant remember if a drink came with it or not but regardless I was stuffed after i finished eating. read more

Meats came covered in sauce. I think to hide the fact that they have no flavor in their own. Brisket was tender but had no flavor a apart from the sauce. Same for the chopped brisket sandwich. Rib had no seasoning and was tough to get a bite to pull loose. Sausage was okay but nothing special. Beans taste like they just boiled the beans in water with no spices. Corn bread was a little dry, also sweet which I don't like (but that it's just a preference thing). I can't recommend this place. read more

Such a cute little place. If you aren't paying attention, you will definitely drive right past it! Ordered the combination plate. It included rib, sausage and brisket, two sides, choice of bread, pickles and onions! The rib was slightly fatty, which I didn't care for but it was still good. The brisket was a little dry but not extremely dry. The sausage was just right, not too spicy! The cornbread was delicious as well! Sides: Pinto beans and cole slaw, beans weren't that great no real taste. But I really did like the cole slaw, prepared just the way I like! My favorite thing though, their banana pudding! I never liked Killeen. I hate the region, but my line of work continuously brings me to the area. Already being in a bad mood for being in Killen and the fact that I tend to trust my fellow Yelpers (see below review), I always drove by here without giving it much thought. I must say, maybe the place improved since 2007, but my visits weren't bad at all. My most recent visit had me staying at the Best Western across the street so I felt compelled to finally try it out. So try I did. I ate at Choice's on three different occasions and all three times I was left satisfied by the dish I ordered. I've ordered the combo (three select meats: beef ribs, beef brisket, and pork sausage), BBQ Pork Chops, BBQ Half Chicken, I even ordered a Pork Knuckle to enjoy in my bedroom like a sick sadistic man. Each dish comes with a choice of two sides and choice of bread. The collard greens and black eyed peas were the highlights. The mac and cheese had no flavor. For the bread, go with the corn bread, it reminds me of the corn bread mixes sold at Trader Joes. All the meats came out moist and fall off the bone good. They also had a wonderful smoky, oaky, charred flavor to the meats. Something I was not expecting from a place without a pit, especially here in Texas where pit BBQ'ing seems to be the standard. Additionally, the product is fresh. I always saw the two cooks smoking the meats every morning at around 6 AM. Moving on, the sweet tea didn't taste like sweet tea. It was more like a sweet tamarind drink, usually served at many Mexican restaurants. I enjoyed it, but for the fear of diabetes, only enjoyed one cup. Definitely try this place out. Though it isn't the Salt Lick, Rudy's or any of the other orgasm inducing places I've been too in Austin or Lockhart, Choices' is a pretty good place if you're in the Killen area. P.S. Come early during lunch, the place gets very busy inside the restaurant as well as the drive through window. read more

My main recommendation to the owners would be to offer sauce but do NOT serve the meats sauced. This ain't (John Hardy's) Minnesota! ;-) The staff were very nice, friendly and accommodating. The chitlins and pig feet are delicious. I didn't really like the brisket, the ribs were pretty good, the sausage is good as well. The hocks taste like smoked turkey, mac n cheese is ok because I prefer baked mac but it's still tasted. The collards look like they are out of a can and the yams are ok. The staff is very friendly. I had hoped that this place would be good, but it just wasn't. The meat was edible, but it certainly wasn't good. The pork rib was better than the brisket. The sweet tea was terrible. I couldn't believe how sweet it was. It was like nestea with a crapload of sugar in it. And refills were $.25. I'll never go here again unless I absolutely have to. read more

Very unclean restaurant, especially if you have to go through the kitchen to go to the bathroom..you get to see EVERYTHING. Only pre-made tea with flavoring whether you want it or not. No plain tea. Have to ask for ice for canned luke warm drinks. Flavor on ribs not bad at all. Corn bread is dry and don't expect homemade or quality rolls. My friends said the greens were really good. I have been going to Choice barbecue since I got here from Germany in 1993, the closest thing I have found to soul food in the Killeen area and most definitely the best barbecue and when I don't feel like cooking chitterlings it is my to go place you must try it if you are new to Killeen or if you have been here and have not tried it you should. read more
