Wanted some quick soul food and decided to stop in. The place is small and the staff was very friendly. Felt like I was pulling up to a relatives house to eat and hang out. I ordered the catfish platter with yams and mac n cheese. Everything tasted fresh. The fish was seasoned perfectly. The yams were perfect and the mac n cheese had a good mix of the noodles to cheese ratio. I even got the kool aid with refill. Before I left I wanted banana pudding but they were out so I got the peach cobbler which I ate at home. Had I known it would be so good, I'd have ordered 2. First of all, why is there no line going out the door to this place? I know the location and the building literally defines this place as a mom and pop/hole in the wall type of place but damn, it's definitely a hidden gem! Was staying at Fairfield Inn a couple miles away by the freeway which makes access to this place ideal after doing a search for soul/southern food on Yelp. As you enter, the place is not too big. The dining area has like about 5 tables. There is a small counter where you can put your order in and pay. Menu is simple so you can pretty much decide what you want right away. It's either Catfish, Wings, Pork Chops or Fried Ribs. FRIED RIBS?!?!?!??! Now this definitely caught my attention. I have had deep fried baby back ribs before (refer to my Texas Meltz review in Las Vegas in which sadly they closed down for undisclosed reasons) so I assumed this was similar only with a southern theme. The Fried Ribs Meal($13.89) comes with Corn Bread and your choice of two sides which were Collard Greens, Mac n Cheese, Potato Salad, Candied Yams, Pinto Beans or Fries. I chose Collard Greens and Candied Yams. The Fried Ribs you can get in flavors of original, hot, lemon pepper, smothered and barbeque. I got the barbeque. When the ribs came out, the best way I can describe it is that it was like tiny little mini bone in pork chops. They give a nice heaping serving of it as evidenced by my picture. So flavorful. The sauce flavor was like a combination of orange chicken sauce and honey hot bbq. Had a little kick to it but not enough to make you sweat waterfalls. This flavor combination was so good! As for the sides the candied yams were were perfect with just the right amount of sweetness. The collard greens were not too salty or vinegary. The corn bread was just decent. As a bonus, look for the red bottle of hot sauce that they make from scratch! It is a vinegar base with a hint of hot peppers which you can see right through the bottle. This sauce went well with the collard greens and I have no doubt probably really good with the catfish. Of course they have your standard bottle of hot sauce as well but this other bottle was fire! Service was like you were in the south with the hospitality that was observed. The lady that took my order was so friendly and the young guy that brought out my food was nice as well. In closing, this is not just your basic southern/soul food place. The two main things that stood out were the vinegar hot sauce and the fried ribs! As I was leaving, the lady asked me if everything was ok. I said no because I was in town for a week and was leaving tomorrow morning. I was mad at myself for not coming sooner! Let me start by saying I'm always looking for black owned businesses to support. When I tell you this place has the sweetest owners and staff that I have met in a while, it was very refreshing. Today was, I think the dad's birthday, so everyone had on cute shirts. The first thing I noticed was the floor. It was so cute and shiny. The logo on the wall was hand painted, and as an artist that was my favorite part. Baby when I tell you the ribs were so good. I wish they would have been boneless. It was my first time trying fried ribs. I was highly impressed and the BBQ sauce just made it even better. The yams, macaroni and cheese and greens were so flavorful. You don't need salt or pepper added. They did that! Babe and my neighbor kept asking for cornbread. I think they had four a piece. It was the perfect piece of cornbread. Definitely family owned place. The restaurant and servers/cooks got personality, but very welcoming. The food was great. They serve sway, not catfish, so definitely be aware of that. But regardless, that cook can fry a mean fish. Good experience overall :) read more

We loved the staff. They were friendly and welcoming. My husband had the fried pork chop basket and I had the fried catfish basket. We both had the candied yams as a side. Everything was well seasoned and tasted great. I'm glad that we like to try non-chain restaurants and that we found this one. We will definitely come back when we come back to Killeen. read more

Obviously, y'all ain't know about this place because I had to put this spot on the map. Let me put yall on, because I'm not gon lie to you. This spot is poppin' (good). The service is alright, I feel like that's what's to be expected of a family establishment. The ambiance gives off a very 'homey','' relaxed, chill, casual vibe. Nothing over the top. After my husband noticed it a month or so ago, we finally tried it and since then we have thoroughly enjoyed it enough to eat here a few times after the first initial try. The fried Pork Chops are delicious. I would definitely redact a star because the price didn't reflect what is posted on Google and on boards in their diner so that was a downside however, again, I will say, I really really enjoyed my pork chops. Therefore, I will add a star back and give this spot a 4 out of 5. Not to mention that my lovely husband loves their catfish, so that was good too. On Google and inside on the boards, plates/meals are priced at $11 but every time we've ordered 2 plates, it's been totaled at $30. The Porkchop plate comes with 2 deep fried pork chops, 2 sides(of your choice), a piece of cornbread (absolutely LOVE that), and a slice of white bread( I don't quite understand why yall folks do that here, but I don't mind it neither). The Catfish plate comes with 4 pieces of catfish, 2 sides (of your choice), and 2 slices of white bread. Choices of sides: Potato Salad Mac N Cheese Collard Greens Yams Fries I've tried all of their sides and tbh its nothing grand but it isn't bad either. I like it. I always get the Mac n Cheese paired with the Collard greens because it just compliments each other so well. I definitely recommend this place but again be wary that the price IS NOT what they have listed. Expect to spend more. Also, at the moment they don't have a register, so I'm not sure how they'll take cash...I never paid with cash. I've used card every time and they use the square thing that connects to their phone. So, maybe call ahead and ask about how they accept cash and all that? Anyways, go try their pork chops!!! read more
