Everything about this place is welcoming and cozy. I usually come here alone with my three little ones an everyone has always been so kind. The cook always has a new soup to try out and even the ones I typically hate (like cabbage soup) always tastes good. We were in town to visit our son at Ft Hood, stopped here on the way from the airport and we were HUNGRY. The biscuits and gravy filled the plate. The biscuits melted in your mouth. Have recommended this place to others in the past. I apologize if you are one of those people. You tend to put up with the average food, sometimes cold and the very low sanitation standards at a place like this. It's cheap, and the waitresses are generally friendly and efficient. Lately the customer service has gotten intolerable. Went in this past Sunday morning around 9am. Wasn't very busy as churches hadn't let out yet. Left waiting at a table for 10 minutes before flagging down the busgirl for a cup of coffee and the promise of "Brooke will be right there". Never got to see her as I tired of waiting. Manager told me when I complained, "you were only at the table for 9 minutes". Well excuse me.......... Places like this survive only because of loyal customers with very low standards. Nice little quaint restaurant the family wanted to go to meet for lunch on the way back to Austin from Fort Worth. If you have that in mind, it will fully meet your expectations. I got the two meat bbq plate, brisket and sausage. Wife got the catfish. Both came with three sides. Hers was good, mine was not so much. Very dry and badly needing the sauce it came with. Coleslaw, baked beans, and fries were good. Her green beans and zucchini and tomato dish was pretty good. Other got their chix fried steak which I was told is very good. It appears as though the on-line MENU prices do not match up with the on site, in the restaurant prices. Many items on the MENU are more expensive on site, in the restaurant, than they show on the on-line MENU. This makes it sort of hard to adjust ones budget. They need to update their web site MENU as soon as possible. read more

First off most of them Waitress are very raciest , the cook that was cooking that day was the worst I didn't get hash Browns I got HAY BROWNS and when I asked the waitress if I could get some a little less done she got attitude and never came back to table except to give check. Lil-Tex Restaurant is a great value for the money. Seating is self-service and pay the cashier on the way out. The servers are friendly and check on you periodically to make sure you are happy. Before you make a decision, be sure to check the special sheet inserted in the menu. I usually end up getting the chicken fried steak which includes three sides. The special and sides rotate daily. I have had some unusual and delicious sides such as Stuffed-green pepper soup, taco soup, fried cabbage, grilled brussels sprouts and also standard sides such as a house salad, fried okra, and mashed potatoes. Let's start off with a few disclaimers: this is one the most popular places to eat in Cove, so when you see the parking lot full, expect a wait. This is a hole in a wall spot, no frills but the food is good. When I come to visit my mom, this is where she usually wants to go. And as my mom doesn't drive I tell her we can go anywhere, but this is where she wants to come. We sat ourselves and a server came but shortly and took our drink request (I was surprised that her soda came in a can but hey that's how they do it). They have daily specials however we ordered off the menu and the wait began. Now when I see people complain that they waited 10 min for food I think to myself, how long does it take them to cook food at home? However we waited approximately 10 minutes for our food to hit the table. The server asked if we needed anything, I asked for some hot sauce and she stated that they burnt the English muffin but it was on its way. Hashbrowns were a little too light but not bad enough to send them back. When we got ready to go I asked her about their cobblers and she informed me that they have blackberry. So I ordered one to go. Now this should be how great the meal was (it was good, it was breakfast, same you'd get at the chain restaurants) but if I tell you the blackberry cobbler was GREAT! I didn't get into until I got back to my home and now I'm trying to plan another trip back for the cobbler!!! And the cobbler was so good that I could barely wait for it to come out the microwave where I added a scoop of vanilla ice cream to it that I didn't get a chance to take a picture of it, but trust me on this . . . It was good!!! So I'll be back as I know my mom will want to come here but I won't leave without the cobbler!!! read more

the place it self probably isn't bad but the service we got was horrible. A lady with sleeve tattoo, glasses, didn't get her name. Did not come check on us once. My sister ordered food half the food didn't come out so we had to literally tell a cook just so we could get the other half. She had an attitude the whole time we were there. Definitely wouldn't visit again even if somebody paid me too. We also literally watch are food sit in the window for like 10 min. So by the time we got are food it was cold. This place has really gone downhill. It used to be the place to go. People still go there, however, the food is very soggy & oily. Not as clean as it used to be. Old dated diner type restaurant needing a good clean. Tried Lil Tex out because it's in the neighborhood but was very underwhelmed with the atmosphere and food. Blinds and floor are very dirty and booths are all torn up. I had the brisket plate and found the brisket to be tough and dry. If it was possible to give less than one star, I would. Instead, I'll show you some pictures! Looking online for some place to go eat tonight, I saw the reviews for this place and decided to try it out. Wow wow wow- was it ever bad! I ordered an enchilada dinner and a side of onion rings. My onion rings came burned, and the enchilada dinner was the worst thing I have ever eaten! Generally you go out to eat for a couple of reasons. 1- you don't feel like cooking, and 2- you're hoping for a tasty satisfying meal. Well, I would've been far better off to stop at the store and pick up a frozen dinner. I wouldn't have had to actually prepare a meal, and it would've tasted far superior to this garbage that was served tonight. After taking one bite of my enchilada, I unrolled it to see what was in it. It was puzzling because it looked like a Taquito instead of an enchilada. It was long and skinny rolled up. Inside was a very thin little line of what I suppose with supposed to be meat. It was NOT delicious! There was nothing else inside the tortilla, not sauce or anything. The other one was rolled up just as tightly with a long thin line of greasy cheese. Nothing else inside. The tortillas had a texture that suggested they had been just heated slightly and rolled, without frying. Grainy and extremely crumbly. Probably the most disgusting part of these enchiladas was what they put on top. There was no sauce, but there was some thick chunks of pasty gunk that made me think that it might be some kind of meat. There was no liquid to it whatsoever, so these enchiladas had no sauce of any kind in them or on them. The flavor of this pasty topping was that of dog food! OK, this is a guess on my part, because I've never actually eaten dog food. But it tasted exactly like canned dog food smells. Really disgusting. The rice was over cooked and atrociously seasoned, and the refried beans were mediocre. But at mediocre, they were the best thing I had tonight. I'll add a few pictures-- notice how it looks like I'm eating taquitos covered in greasy cheese.. and notice the burned onion rings. You can also see the Alpo-like stuff dumped all over the top of everything. I'm actually trying to find some chocolate now, just to get the taste of this crap out of my mouth!!! read more
