Love finding nice establishments like this in Temple! Easy access off W Adams with ample parking. I'd say this is a mix of casual, recreational fun with high end dining elements. Big building with spacious dining areas, outdoor space, and the pickleball courts of course. There's also an upstairs area that's exclusively for members. The interior and exterior design is exceptional. Very clean and pleasing to the eye. Welcome to All - not just pickleballers! High end liquors with experienced mixologists. Great cocktail list. Wine list was pretty short but had some good bottles on it. Brunch food was good. The breakfast croissant sandwich was hard to handle and fell apart but tasty. The Southern Poutine was hearty and comforting (sausage in lieu of cheese curds) The bartender was exceptional-knowledgeable, engaging, and attentive. Would love to see a broader wine list with greater range. Was disappointed they didn't have the fireplaces on especially since it's been so cold. A nice fireplace would have really elevated the experience by adding a cozy atmosphere. Also, they have a fruit fly problem. read more

First the good. The food was very good, BBQ Cauliflower was great, my wife and I shared the smoked meatloaf and it was wonderful. About server was nice and attentive even though we were the only ones outside at first. That said, overall we were nickel and dimed for everything. It really felt like they just want money. If a 14 year old wants to order off the kids menu, they charge an extra $4, but it's not an adult portion, it's the same amount of food they just want you to pay more. It makes me not want to bring kids here. Also, if you're eating and the pickle ball courts are empty, there is no discount for playing pickle ball, and they make sure to tell you that you will be charged while you eat your meal. The courts are empty and they don't have any reservations for them, but they need their money. We were told they would provide paddles and balls, so we didn't get ours from the car, and then we were charged for them. I haven't left a restaurant review before, thinking my repeat business -- or not -- was itself a review. But I'm feeling a little "took" tonight so here goes. I had take-out of the Working Man's order. I would like to say it was worth the $50 but it totally wasn't. I asked for the ribeye to be cooked medium rare but it was well past medium; and a fair portion of it was gristle and fat. The green beans that look so beautiful on the website were cooked to near oblivion. The mashed potatoes and garlic compound butter were great, though. And I had the salmon the other night and it was perfect! I'll go back because it's around the corner and I'm in the midst of moving. Otherwise, I'll do the cooking and eat better for it! read more

I would recommend Commonwealth for the ambiance and drinks. The food has been disappointing each time we've been there, especially for the price. We had a birthday dinner here, and sadly no one liked their food, mostly due to nothing being well-seasoned. Brisket queso fries- normally we look forward to these, but they were skimpy on the amount of fries this time. Brussels sprouts-too hard Chicken fried steak- nice portion but bland Honey hot chicken salad- chicken was hard and cold Honey hot chicken wrap-same Ribeye-good portion and cooked right, but bland WDC burger-bland I'll also add that I was scared to order an espresso martini here again, as the last time I got one was the worst I've had and when I told the waitress, she didn't offer to have it remade. Went for a Valentine's Day dinner. We were just passing through. It looks really nice inside- like luxury ranch type decor. Big bar as well. It was freezing outside and they sat us right by the door so we asked to move closer to one of the rooms that had a fireplace and they reseated us. The waitress was nice and attentive. Having pickleballs courts at a restaurant seems a bit odd but other than that the ambiance was nice and the food was 10/10. read more

Commonwealth is a boujee restaurant with three outdoor pickleball courts. It's a really nice concept. You can reserve courts online one month in advance. They have a good number of times that are automatically reserved though. It's $30/hour Monday through Thursday and $40/hour on Friday/weekend. They also charge $5 to rent a paddle, which seems pretty steep when you can buy a cheap pickleball paddle for $10. If they're using high-quality, expensive paddles for rentals, then maybe $5 would be reasonable. I am not sure if they are though. There are a lot of tables on the patio but very limited shade. We had to move from the table right next to our court to one on the opposite side just to get a little shade. We got some pricey appetizers that were pretty average and small portions. I was playing pickleball when they came, so by the time I came back, there wasn't much left for a good picture. We got the brussels sprouts, green chile queso, and flatbread. I don't really have anything special to comment on them. They were okay, but the service was good. I haven't heard stellar reviews about the food here. It just seems like mid American food. I would not come here to eat, but I like this place for the pickleball. read more

The place has definitely gone down hill since it opened. The food is not good, cold, not attractive on the plate and subpar. I asked to have fireplace turned on and girls said it was broken they are waiting on parts. The parking lot is 1/ paved and half dirt rocks and hard to walk on especially in heels or elderly. The are not enough handicap parking spots and the door is hard to open you need to be THOR to PUSH open. For the prices you pay it's not a good place. read more

I'm rating solely on drinks, vibe and service. We did not get food. I met my friends here for a girls night to chat and try cocktails. The server was super friendly and helpful. We sat in a cozy side room with a couch and comfy chairs and had it all to ourselves. It was not dead in there, but nice and mellow so we could actually have conversation and hear. We told our serve what type of things we'd normally order and he made recommendations and we trusted and tried them. I wasn't expecting bad at all but wasn't expecting how great the cocktails would be either! They were fantastic! We got a spicy margarita and mezcal old fashioned and a paper plane. They were all done very well! Actually, these were flat out the best cocktails I've had since we moved to this area. Better than places we've been in Austin, as well. I like whiskey cake and their drinks, but I liked these even better! We had a great time and we will definitely be back. I moved to temple from dfw and have really struggled with the area as it doesn't have much going for it and a lot of things are run down or not good. DO NOT GO if you have kids. my kids got screamed at from the top balcony. not even the respect to come and talk to us ( the parents), just yelled and at the end said ok. There was mud because of the rain and that's why they got screamed at because they were getting mud from their shoes on the concrete. IF YOU HAVE KIDS YOU DEFINITELY WONT BE WELCOMED. We walked in on the soft opening to an impressive entryway with a highly polite staff. After three visits, we tried the burger, chicken fried steak and superfood salad. The Waygu burger has fantastic flavor but the bun is dense and takes away from the experience of the wagu and cheese. I'm sure they will work this out, but it is a shame how close they are to a great burger only because of the buns. The chicken fried steak has a nice sweet grave and is a joy. It's not a massive serving like most places, but it's a proper portion with tons of delicious flavor. The superfood salad has an excellent balance between sweet and savory. The portion size is perfect for a quick, healthy lunch. Overall, this is a great place, and I will see us eating with friends many more times in the future! read more

We tried out Commonwealth tonight and really enjoyed it! They are definitely still having some growing pains but nothing that will keep me from going back. The food was delicious. I had the wagyu short ribs and my husband had the wagyu smash burger. We both cleaned our plates. The short rib had room to be a tiny bit more tender, but flavor was amazing. Mashed potatoes and brussels sprouts were perfect. The burger and fries were also perfect - great bun, great char, great crispiness on the fries. Service was super friendly. Everyone seemed to enjoy being there. I liked that there were little seating areas that seemed open for people to use while waiting on a table or if they were done with their table but wanted to hang with their party and finish their drinks. There was room to improve a few things. We were a party of two and they kept the table set for four the whole time. My drink and our waters didn't make it out until we were halfway through our meal. I saw a manager walking around, but I didn't see her check on any tables and she did not stop by ours. They have a pretty annoying fly issue, but do have fans on the table that do a decent job of keeping them at bay. The acoustics are NOT good. It's a big space with high ceilings so everyone's conversations echo. I think this place has a ton of potential and I'm psyched it's in the neighborhood. I can't wait to see how they continue to improve and try more of the menu! I do hope they don't keep the reservation-only thing going for too long. It's great that they're popular but it's going to be frustrating if you can't just drop in for a last minute date night. read more

From being greeted and seated by the hostess to the great customer service from our waitress Izzy the vibe was all positive!! They forgot to ask me how I wanted it cooked. It was dry. Unseasoned as well. They weren't busy to make these major mistakes. The waffle fries were freezer burnt and tasted awful. The old fashioned was made well and I enjoyed that! Overall the atmosphere is great like I said. It seems to me, the owners of this place only care about PROFITING and not about their REPUTATION. I have to agree with other reviewers in regard to the food not being up to par with the atmosphere. The building is beautiful and the ambiance is lovely, it feels very upscale. I was surprised when I saw their menu items. There were a choice of four antres as well as sales and sandwiches. We started with the chips and queso. I wasn't a fan of the chips, but I also admit to be sort of a chip snob. They poured a small amount of hot sauce on the queso and the two did not marry well. I opted for the special, a catfish sandwich. The catfish honestly tasted like it had been previously frozen. There was an excessive amount of breading and a mixture of seasonings that did not enhance the flavor of the fish at all. On a positive note, our waitress was extremely friendly and helpful. The good: the ambience is wonderful, the staff was kind and as attentive as they could be on a busy night. The chicken fried steak was well made, juicy, gravy was on point. Beignets were crispy, flaky, and came with a delicious berry dip. The music made my early 2000s teen heart happy. The bad: we sat for 15min before a manager found us and realized we had not been taken care of. Our appetizers came out cold, including the queso. I ordered the orange honey chicken and it was warm, I will add that it was a lot of sweetness and I was hoping that the veggies would offset it but they were swimming in honey so it was just a sweet dish all around. We ordered dessert before we even finished dinner because our waitress had shared that the kitchen was behind. We sat and waited 25min post dinner for our to-go order of dessert and our waitress came back and let us know that the kitchen "just told me" they didn't have anymore of the chocolate cake that we had ordered. Okay, understood. 10min pass we still don't have the beignets so we decide to cancel it and get refunded. The manager came up and said she would void the entire order and take off the 2 desserts but let us take the beignets, so we did but at that point we were just disappointed. My family and I had not had a chance to visit Commonwealth because we live about 25min away, but after last night we will definitely be back! Last night I reserved two pickleball courts for my 14yo daughter and her friends to enjoy for a small birthday get together. Upon arrival the staff was so kind in greeting us and although I did not make a reservation for outside seating, they accommodated us quickly and our entire group had a great spot by our reserved courts. Mikayla (I'm so sorry if I misspelled her name) was our waitress and she was absolutely amazing! She has the best customer service and took exceptional care of us! Mikayla was also kind enough to put my daughter's cake in the fridge so it didn't melt in this Texas heat. Everyone that helped Mikayla bring out food was also so kind and accommodating. We really enjoyed all the food and a few of us parents enjoyed the drink menu as well! Commonwealth, thank you for having us! This is a great space and was so much fun! read more

Nice aesthetic, but noisy, flies everywhere, slow service, cold entree except for the green beans which were good. That was not worth the price we paid. I have no issue at all dining with children, but you could not carry on a conversation without shouting above the 7-8 screaming, unattended children running amok between the tables while their parents drank at the bar or hung out upstairs in the club. A group of kids were using the room we were in to chase around a pickle ball under the tables, and since our chairs kept getting bumped and we couldn't hear above the screaming, we rushed through our meal and left. Still, my biggest issue was I paid a premium price for cold chicken fried steak and had to go hunting the staff for our check so we could pay and leave. read more

Great food, stylish bar and outdoor areas and beautiful pickleball courts. We had 3 appetizers (pimento, peach flatbread, brussel sprouts), cocktails (Black Betty & esquire - both delicious!), and multiple burgers and fish/shrimp platters. Everything was delicious and our server was adorable! We'll be back for sure! Make reservations for dinner! This lovely place just opened 2wks ago me and hub checked it out today. The outside is industrial and modern-great access and parking. The inside is an elegant and warm design, tall ceilings, plenty of great light! Nestled right in our neighborhoods! 1230 Saturday-seated at bar(we could've chosen outside) there was a private event happening so some seating was reserved-didn't take away from our experience! Everyone was friendly and we were checked on by staff other than our server. We had the chubbies(Philly sliders) and brisket fries with Hefeweizen on tap! Both dishes were very flavorful and topped with signature sauces, and fresh toppings. It's our first try, and a great one. I've been here about 5 other times. Every o the time the food has been amazing. I have told everyone to try it. However, tonight, my husbands 40th birthday, I made reservations and the food was so much worse than what we have previously experienced. We usually order the pimento cheese for appetizer. Today we ordered the queso. The queso came out cold and chunky. We asked for a redo. Never got it so we ended up just asking for the pimento cheese and cracker. Which was good as usual. We ordered the pork chop to share because we planned on dessert. When we got the pork chop and cut into it, it was raw and pink and cold. We sent it back and ordered the Wagyu burger. I didn't taste it but my husband said it was good. The fries were crispy. We ended up not getting dessert because we had snacked in so much random stuff that we were full.
