Had Valentines dinner here. Reservations made in advance for this special day. Got to meet Eric one of the owners at the check in desk. He recommended the upstairs dinning room if you want it to be romantic evening. Agree 100% when we left you could hardly hear your self talking. They also have a nice outside area which would be nice in spring/summer time. Our waitress was Riley who has been with them for 2 years and was very knowledgeable about the menu. She was spot on the whole night. Had our drinks my wife the Appleton and I had Dewars and soda. Bartender knows their stuff and does not skimp. Appetizers were Risotto Tots, Very good, also to large crab cake with remoulade sauce, excellent. Shrimp scampi was excellent and very filling. They have a very diverse menu for varying appetites. Came in on a Saturday night to celebrate a promotion. I was hoping it would be more intimate, but despite there being a few other open tables we were seated back to back to a large party. Since it's a small space and echoey, we could not hear ourselves over the group of people talking. Drinks: We started with the Queen Bee cocktail and a red wine. The cocktail was good but I didn't feel the mixture of flavors worked well for my taste. I can't recall the name of the wine but it was a nice wine to pair with red meat. Appetizers: we started with the fried green tomatoes and the Caesar wedge salad. The tomatoes were a little bland and came out cold (not sure if that was on purpose?). The wedge was good but was slathered in dressing which made it a little too rich. *Side note: I realized after we left that complimentary bread was mentioned on the appetizer menu, but I'm unclear if we had to ask for that...? It was never offered nor brought out. I decided against ordering the French baguette because I assumed there was complimentary bread. Entrees: I had the Ravioli Diablo and my husband tried the Sea Bass special that came with clams, mussels and lobster ravioli. The Ravioli Diablo was just OK, kind of a small portion. For the special, he liked the mussels but thought the sea bass was a little overdone. In hindsight, there was a lot going on with that plate; the ravioli was a bit out of place and it could've used a nice risotto or rice instead. Dessert: we tried ordering Creme brulee but they were out so we ordered the "brown butter" cheesecake instead...I'm including the description from the menu and a picture of the bare cheesecake loaf I received with no toppings (I took the picture after my husband took a bite). I'm actually most disappointed about this since I was hoping it would be the part of the meal to make up for the mediocrity of everything else. "Vanilla bean brown butter with candied pecans and soft whipped cream" Honestly I tried to be optimistic but it was overall not the experience I was hoping for. Especially for a $200 bill. read more

We got hit with the massive included tip for a large group of people ... our waitress did mess up several of our checks and it almost made us late to our next planned excursion for our friends birthday night. .. all the hype about the shrimp scampi I read on Yelp and it was just meh. Came for lunch and will definitely return! I didn't take pictures but the presentation of the food was really nice. The flavors were exceptional! Had the roast pork sandwich and au jus served with it had an incredible depth of flavor. Also had the crispy salmon and it was equally as delicious. A friend of mine wanted to come here to try it out for dinner. She's pretty good and finding good spots for us. I had the jalapeño chicken. It was good. I had leftovers, and they were still just as good the next day. Only thing I had to do was take out the jalapeños. They tasted like the jarred or canned jalapeños. Didn't really go together for me. Once I took them out the dish got a lot better for me. The staff was super nice and answered every question I had. The place itself is really nice and a great setting for a date. I enjoyed my visit and soon heard after we left, that they play live music upstairs after a certain time. So I will definitely be trying to make a point to go another evening to try another dish and enjoy some music. read more

The restaurant is cute and intimate, and it had beautiful decor for the holidays. Our girls catch up Thursday evening dinner was a lot of great time to talk and laugh. Our server was polite and helpful without being intrusive. The field green and mixed berry salad was delicious although it advertised a goat cheese tartlet I didn't get. The sea bass was light and just slightly under in the middle. The risotto was slightly salty but good. The broccolini was tough to cut and chew so I discarded it after a bite. For dessert, we split the sticky toffee pudding but when it came out, it was more like a toffee chocolate cake than anything. Sweet and flavorful but not what we were expecting. I don't recommend this restaurant. Our food was terrible. We had fried green tomatoes that were so tough that they were difficult to cut with a knife and fork. I got the salmon on ravioli with a lemon butter sauce. The salmon was undercooked the lemon butter sauce lemon. I had to send it back, and by the time they brought the next , was finished eating. He had spaghetti with marinara sauce that was strangely sour tasting. We also felt it was overpriced. I actually think Pignetti's is a better Italian restaurant. read more

This was a real culinary treat. We went nad saw items on the menu we have never seen before like Risotto Tots (which were excellent!) I really enjoyed the capreses salad as well. Very fresh tasting. THe cocktail choices were excellent and I really enjoyed the razzle dazzle. The servers seemed knowledgable in the wines and food pairings. They were on top of it and keep us loaded with bread! It is a nice, quite, dim lit place that was excellent for a date night. Will be going again when we are in town. read more

We walked into 17 South and were promptly greeted and seated by our hostess. The ambience had a rustic charm. However, it was quite chilly in the restaurant. The chilly temperature made it hard to feel welcome. We were greeted by our server, who started us off with drinks. But we were lead to our first snag when told that certain appetizers are premade. our waiter resolve the issue by coordinating our special request with the chef, however upon receiving our appetizers, we were disappointed to find that our appetizers lacked seasoning. The entrees made a valiant effort to save the evening as they were both delicious and well seasoned however, the sauces prove to be towards the watery side. Overall, for a first time experience with this restaurant, I will be leery about its menu, and their methods for prepping appetizers. Despite the cleanliness and professionalism of the staff, I could only hope that the overall menu and food will match the energy that was given by set, staff and ambience . read more

Not cheap. Very nice inside. This is a date night or special occasion atmosphere. Quiet music. My wife and I shared the blue cheese crumble salad minus the bacon. It was delicious. The dressing was one of the best I have had. The lettuce was chilled and crisp. Excellent salad. We then shared the eggplant "tower". Thinly sliced eggplant excellent tomato sauce and mushrooms and other herbs. Well done. It came with Alfredo fettuccine on the side. Even split it was a lot of food. I was at 17 South twice in December, once for dinner and once for lunch. My rating is a combination of the two experiences. For dinner we both had the shrimp scampi and Caprese salad appetizer. I don't think I've had shrimp scampi that good anywhere in Central Texas. It was just excellent.. the right amount of lemon, the shrimp was cooked perfectly. It was just excellent. The Caprese salad was also excellent with outstanding fresh mozzarella. Even the bread was great. When we were there for lunch, there must have been a different chef. My friend had the eggplant and said that it was so heavily breaded that she wouldn't have known that it was eggplant. I had the shrimp scampi again, which they offered to make even though it isn't on the lunch menu, and it just didn't compare to what I'd had for dinner. It was okay, just not great. The bread was still outstanding and the service could not possibly have been any better. read more

This was a rather disappointing lunch, especially as we had been looking forward to dining here; we were there for an hour and a half and didn't get served our appetizer until half an hour in. I realize tastes differ, but the sauce served with the risotto balls was shockingly bad, as agreed on by everyone at the table. Our main courses didn't come until an hour in. I ordered an Arugula Salad, which is describe as radish, radish greens, pickled red onion, and tomatoes, and received a mixed green salad with raw onions, olives, and tomatoes. When I asked the server if it was the right salad, I was told that was the Arugula Salad. Overall, the food wasn't great, and no one finished their meal. We hosted our son's and now daughter in law's rehearsal dinner at 17 South Main. The whole evening was amazing. We had the entire upstairs, they even printed a special menu just for our guests. Brent and Keith worked their tails off making sure everything was great. From the appetizers of Risotto Tots & Crab Cakes to the Main Course with choices of Chicken, Hanger Steak (which everyone raved about), Salmon (I recommend trying) and Chicken Alfredo (delicious) then finishing the meal off with their scrumptious Brown Butter Cheesecake & Kalua Chocolate Cake we could not have picked a better place to bring the two families together the evening before the big wedding day. I can't recommend 17 South Main enough. It's a great place and I definitely look forward to dining there whenever we are in town. read more
