L Braised Beef & Mushroom Stroganoff
Khoa N.

Absolute gem of an Italian restaurant hidden in a large town in Temple, TX! I honestly did not have any expectations going in, and I found the food to be delicious. Serving staff was kind and courteous. I ordered their bread basket - which had a tasteful crunch for each piece of bread (and worth the $5)! I also got their beef stroganoff and was beyond impressed with the dish! Props to the kitchen. If I ever find myself back in Temple, I will return for sure, hungry for more!

A group of friends and I were looking to have some good food on a busy Saturday evening to celebrate a friend's birthday and they were able to accommodate us without a reservation. Our server Shawn was so attentive and made our experience go from "good" to "pretty awesome". His recommendations for the house wine and the catch of the day were spot on. The birthday girl had a good time and some delicious house-made creme brûlée.

Awesome place! Great wine selection, excellent food and the service is always pleasant. Our server Pearl was so nice and knowledgeable. As a New Yorker it was awesome to get great bread and olive oil with my red wine after a year deployed overseas! The sales were fresh and my dinner mates loved the lasagna, osso bucco and the candied bacon appetizer. Definitely check them out!

We talked in the renovated Pignetti's; people were kind and welcoming. We sat down and the wait for Sean was training Sarah. Bithe were kind and energetic. We ordered the blackened redfish, lobster ravioli and shrimp pasta. The food was tasty and consistent with the price. We finished with the creme brulee and had a wonderful evening.

Birthday Dinner at PIGNETTI'S we are new to the area and trying out restaurants in downtown Temple, TX. They have only been opening three weeks prior from the Tornado of last year. Great Italian food like I am use to from New York. Everything was excellent, both owners were walking around talking to customers and so was the manager, Shannon who chatted with us for awhile and gave us some tips on other restaurants in the downtown area. Wife had Chicken Picatta, her favorite dish and she loved it. The Bread basket with Oil was great nice hot fresh bread to dip in the hard oil. The Rib Eye Lasagna was very good a little different with the Rib Eye but delicious all the way through. Our waiter Daniel was outstanding and always ready to answer any questions we had. They do not serve hard liquor cause they do not have that type license, they have a wine club on site. Over all a very pleasant and wonderful evening we will be back a few more dishes we have to try. Keep up the great work

I found this place through Yelp since it has a great rating. And it was a nice place for dinner. I had order a mushroom pasta, A spritzer. I this was the best pasta I had lately and also my best Spritz so far. My husband had a mussels dish and it was pretty tasty too!

We rented the private room next to the main restaurant for a work event for about 40 peeps. The staff were super friendly and very attentive. The tables were nicely sett and we ordered a set menu buffet style of steak, chicken, ravioli, veggies, and mashed potatoes. The food was tasty and nicely prepared. Drinks and cocktails were aplenty and we all were able to converse and have a good time. The cost wasn't bad either, a few thousand. The restaurant itself is one of the better restaurants in Temple.

Pignetti's - A Memorable Dining Experience My wife and I were looking for a romantic dinner date night and decided to try Pignetti's in Temple, Texas. The glowing reviews for this fine-dining Italian restaurant convinced us to give it a shot--and I'm so glad we did! First, I called to make a reservation, but they only had tables available later that night. I explained that it was just the two of us, and the manager was incredibly gracious in finding a spot for us despite the busy schedule. Second, our waiter was exceptional--attentive, knowledgeable, and accommodating. We ordered the filet mignon and the salmon Alejandro. My salmon was cooked perfectly, with an ideal temperature and portion size, and served alongside a generous bed of vegetables. I also tasted my wife's filet mignon--it was tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection (medium), accompanied by potatoes and green beans. The owner, Clinton, stopped by our table, and I have to say, he's an incredibly likable guy--warm and welcoming, which adds to the cozy, inviting atmosphere of the place. I highly recommend Pignetti's for anyone looking for an outstanding dining experience! (We got to meet Clinton the next day. He was super hospitable and shared some of his wine brand and his story with us. We spent a fair amount of time discussing life, religion, wine, and family.)

Pignetti's is a nicer Italian restaurant that is great for the upscale vibes, but the service left something to be desired. My friends and I made a large reservation for 14. The food and atmosphere were excellent, but we would describe the service as bizarre. They only gave menus for every other seat, although the restaurant wasn't full, so it was concerning that they didn't have enough menus. The server was very insistent on taking our wine glasses if we didn't order anything to drink. Maybe that's just protocol, but it felt very odd. I'm not picky at all about service, but we got really weird vibes from the server as it felt she did not really care about being nice to us, which we felt may have been because we were a group of young people. This felt so odd because this is a nicer restaurant where we would expect the service to be nicer as well. We later discovered there was an automatic gratuity of 20% charged for large parties, so perhaps the server didn't care to make a good impression because of that. They also charged a 3% service fee (credit card fee?) in addition to the automatic gratuity, which didn't feel right for such a well-established restaurant. I understand this for hole-in-the-wall restaurants that prefer cash, but a nice restaurant that already charges high prices imparting the credit card fee onto customers is kind of absurd. One of my friends asked if this is illegal, but I believe it is legal in Texas and may have been recently outlawed in California. Apart from these charges and the poor service, we really enjoyed the food. My friend and I shared the black truffle sacchetti. The flavour was delicious. Because we were sharing, the portion was very small. However, a full portion would not have been enough for me either if I were hungry. I really savoured every bite of it.

Was super disappointed about this one. Locals suggested the place and we did a delivery order on the weekend. The pizza wasn't cooked all the way through and the spaghetti was terrible. We love Italian and didn't finish either. I wouldn't call authentic Italian. The only saving grace was the deviled eggs.

We came here for a late dinner last night. It was our first time back since the tornado. They did an amazing job with the decoration, environment, lighting of the smaller room. The service has always been great at pignettis. We quickly got seated and our server was attentive without feeling like they were hovering over us the entire night. The food was amazing, and we always feel Pleasent stuffed when we leave pignettis. It also didn't feel too overpriced for the quality and service.

What BBQ place on the list happens to be open on a Monday (and quite frankly, seven days a week)? Miller's Smokehouse in Belton. Miller's Smokehouse has one of the longest tenures on the Texas Monthly Top 50, making the list four times in a row (the third-highest behind Louie Mueller and Snow's). They've got their business down. As I arrived, I parked in a free parking lot just across the street and got into the line around 12:30. The line moves pretty efficiently, and you order separately from the barbecue line. I think this immediately felt disheartening as a barbecue fan. You kinda expect to get your food while in line and watch the assembly of workers put it together, instead of them being in a separate location in the back giving you order numbers. It doesn't feel like a true Texas barbecue experience and more like a Dickey's Barbecue Pit. Instead of going for a tray, I opted for one of their specialty sandwiches, the El Gallo Picante. It has their spicy hot link sausage and their smoked chicken topped with coleslaw, onions, jalapeños, pickles, and barbecue sauce. I also got a side of their broccoli salad out of curiosity and a roll of their homemade cornbread. I got my drink and sat down with my roll of cornbread. It wasn't long until my tray came to me. The sandwich stood on its own as a behemoth. So much chicken and sausage fell out of the bun. The sandwich was less concerned about being a sandwich and more focused on creating a space to try and contain a mixture of ingredients. It wasn't bad, but it was hard to say anything other than that I felt uninspired by the entire thing. The sausage was fine, the chicken was kinda dry, but everything together with all the separate ingredients masked the meats' faults. The broccoli salad was a unique side that I had never seen before at a barbecue joint, so I wanted to try it. It was cool, but not something I'd get again. As for the cornbread, it was quality, but if that's the most impressive part of the meal, then I'm questioning the establishment's ability to create a good barbecue experience. I think it's so cool to have so many special barbecue places near me and the ability to try so many, but I'm starting to wonder if the places that stay on the list for four editions start to lose their oomph. Do they become complacent knowing they already have their business and are established? Is there any need to try and push the envelope when you're just a recurring guest on top barbecue lists? Is it a me issue? Is it my fault I went to Burnt Bean a week prior and now I'm trying a place that sells all-day barbecue? With your big brick-and-mortar and your TV screen menus, you're not as hungry as you used to be.
