We got takeout from Cheeve's for lunch, and the food was massively overpriced for the quality. This may be because this was lunch and not dinner, as their lunch menu has very limited options. I got the penne dal giardino with chicken for a whopping $25. This pasta was very mid. It just tasted very basic. I like having vegetables in my pasta, but they made the pieces abnormally large, and there wasn't much chicken, which was an additional $7. I've had much better and cheaper pasta at Olive Garden. They don't do delivery at all, which was inconvenient, especially for lunch, which doesn't even offer food that would be strange to deliver like steak. read more

We were a party of 4. We ordered the pecan crusted halibut, Caesar salad, 8oz filet, grape salad, fried shrimp, wine and a mixed drink. My filet was ordered "medium" and arrived rare. It was sent back, cooked more and brought back to me by a surly waitress 25 minutes later. The halibut arrived as a fishy smelling slab which was almost inedible. The Caesar and grape salads were excellent as were the shrimp. Once the filet was returned to the kitchen the atmosphere changed from one of welcome to one of annoyance. We are not going back anytime soon and suggest you spend your money elsewhere. read more

We tried this place for the first time for dinner. My husband had to make a reservation. We were told you have to dress up and had a friend tell us he was kicked out before because he was dressed nice but had a hat on and told them he didn't want take it off because he hadn't styled his hair and was uncomfortable. He had a group with him ready to drop big money. They left after he was told he wouldn't be served. He was someone who had spent a lot of money in there regularly taking people for business meals. He stopped going, but we tried it to try it. We got there and I laughed because it's nowhere near a "fine dining" look inside. It's outdated and the dimness of the lighting wasn't a moody feel, but dingy. You could tell they were way too big for their britches. Our server was cordial, but not in a warm friendly way. The menu was limited. We ordered basic cocktails. My husband's was good and mine was not. I could barely drink it and it's something I order often. We got a salad that was fresh and good. We each tried a fish option. It was not good. The fish itself maybe would've been okay, the sauce was vile. It was a heavy, creamy oily mess. It had tough chucks of crawfish in it. My husband's couldn't finish his. I didn't want to waste money so I tried. We had also ordered truffle Mac n cheese. There wasn't a trace of truffle in it, it was so greasy it that it was inedible. Like when oil and dairy separate. The pasta wasn't cooked properly. It had zero flavor and wasn't creamy at all. I was over it. We ordered dessert. They have multiple dessert options, but for whatever reason said they only were doing cheesecake or crème brûlée. We ordered both. The cheesecake was good. The crème brûlée wasn't. It had an excessive amount of powdered sugar all over the top and plate and was served on a tacky paper doily. The texture was weird. We spoke of how we would never come back and it wasn't worth the prices they charge. Even if they fly ingredients in or whatever justifies the prices. The food we got was not good. It's not us being picky, it really wasn't. To top it off, I ate nothing else that night and hadn't had lunch prior... I went to bed that night and woke up with food poisoning or it wasn't sitting well and was throwing up all night. By morning it had cleared my system and I felt better. read more

I rarely leave reviews, but this experience at Cheeves Bros. Steakhouse was bad enough that people deserve a warning. I made a reservation in advance for my wife's birthday and requested roses to make the night special. Instead, from start to finish, the entire experience was a nightmare. We began with calamari that had to be remade and still tasted burnt and over-fried. Our server then recommended the shrimp appetizer, which arrived in under two minutes--never a good sign. The shrimp were chewy, undercooked, and already separating from the shells. Easily the worst shrimp I've ever been served. Then came the main event: two filet mignons. What arrived was nearly $200 worth of dried-out, overcooked steak that was completely inedible. They were boxed up and thrown away because no one at the table could stomach them. This is supposed to be a high-end steakhouse. In a world where places like Texas Roadhouse, LongHorn, and Three Forks consistently deliver quality, this was shocking. Charging premium prices for food of this quality feels like scamming customers. To make matters worse, I spent over $400 on this meal with a server who was barely present. I didn't cause a scene because it was my wife's birthday--but your restaurant still managed to ruin a moment that mattered to us. This experience warrants a full refund and serious attention from management. I truly hope ownership sees this and understands how badly this missed the mark. read more

Cheeves Bros. Steak House in Temple, Texas, is housed in a century-old building that is still beautiful to this day. The restaurant's ambiance exudes timeless elegance with refined décor and warm lighting, offering a sophisticated setting for guests to enjoy their meals . Its concept centers on delivering a luxurious dining experience to a small town. We came with a large group of 14 people and were placed at a long table near the bathrooms. That might be the only negative to our whole experience. We had two servers helping us since we were such a large group. The drinks were constantly refilled and bread brought out fresh and warm. My family of 6 enjoyed sharing many of our dishes. Here were the highlights: Mini beef Wellington made with prime tenderloin medallions, puff pastry, mushrooms, shallots, merlot reduction. Delicious!!! The shrimp cocktail consisted of boiled and peeled gulf shrimp with house-made cocktail sauce. The shrimp were just ok but the cocktail sauce was great. Panko Crusted Mini Crabcakes made with jumbo lump Maryland crab, remoulade, tomatillo relish, sriracha, cilantro. Truthfully, the sauce and extra spice took away from the flavor of the crab itself. Not my favorite. Iceberg Wedge Salad made with chopped romaine lettuce, tri-color cherry tomatoes, julienne carrots, chopped egg, diced onion. Choice of Ranch Dressing and Cheddar Cheese or Bleu Cheese Dressing and Blue Cheese Crumbles. Pretty standard wedge, nothing special. Prime Aged Tenderloin 6oz Filet 6oz cooked medium rare. Great! Baked Sweet Potato side served with butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Yum! Truffle Mac and cheese was the biggest disappointment. It was oily/greasy at the same time as very dry. I had the cheeves burger with waffle fries for dinner after my flight with my daughter and her boyfriend. Burger patty was cooked to my liking and my espresso martini was just what I needed after dealing with the airport madness. Service was a little slow but the friendly people and the owner going around mingling with the guests made up for it, I even met one of the cooks It was a nice intimate place with lighting that is not overwhelming. We went to visit the day after Christmas and it was well worth it as always. The food here is amazing 10/10! We always receive amazing service. This time we had Bryan and he was amazing as well! It's just inconsistent here. That's why it's "ok", which is sad because Cheeves used to be very good. Sometimes the service is lacking when it's busy. The Caesar Salad @ $10 was disappointing, expecting more quality and better sizing. The lettuce and cheese looks as if they came out of a bag, didn't have that freshness-like feel to it. The caesar dressing was not good, did not taste homemade, it tasted processed. Never again. Seafood bisque was okay, definitely not the best today but okay. Inconsistency. Both our burgers were overcooked. I asked for medium and got medium well while she got well done and wanted medium well. YAY! But the fries were good. We went back a few months ago - they were open deep into the pandemic, and wouldn't you know - they made some noticeable changes. The burgers had shrunk in size by about 15-20%. I think that was the last straw for us. Had a nice bug crawling around our table cloth - we just shoe-d it away and didn't complain. The place is so dark you can't really tell or see the any critters if they were walking around checkin' out your digs n burger n stuff. Service has always been nice here but sometimes it's slow when busy. The manager will pick up the slack and help out with is nice - when he / she does it's usually quicker. A fine dining restaurant in Temple, TX that never fails to impress. Drinks : A full bar with an extensive wine list and cocktails. The wine cellar is quite impressive. Food : Appetizers, salads, soup, steaks, seafood, dessert.... you name it. It's all great! My personal favorites are the spinach salad with strawberries and balsamic vinaigrette, seafood bisque and five spice Asian salmon. For dessert, you cannot go wrong with any of their offerings - creme brulee, chocolate cake or their flambee. Service : Exemplary! The wait staff are well informed and give you an amazing dining experience. Their suggestions are always great. Ambiance : A classy restaurant for entertaining guests. We were a large group and they reserved a semi-private table at the back of the restaurant, which worked out very well. Street parking is available with additional parking spots a couple of minutes from the restaurant. Valet is available, if you are lazy. Pricing : You pay the price for a fine dining experience. It took a while for the waitress to take our cocktail order after her initial greeting. It also took a while to bring us water and we had to request bread. She was nice but not outstanding.
