    Quirky decor

Cathy's Cafe was a pleasant little surprise. A very small storefront online with many little shops in a narrow alleyway kind of area in Salado. Upon entering I was surprised at how large the dining area actually was. Cute ambience with quirky decor. The space was very comfortable and the service very welcoming. It was busy and with only the owners working it took a little bit but it was easy to see they were working hard. All the items ordered were great and they had excellent prices. Overall, pleasantly surprised and happy we stopped in as we were passing by. We would definitely go again.

Cathy herself was seating, taking orders & delivering meals. Her husband was in the kitchen cooking. Very nice couple w/ a positive attitude despite C19 difficulties. My recommendation is the salmon burger or the grilled roast beef & melted Swiss cheese sandwich. Either way check the "daily specials" b/4 ordering from the menu. Dr. Pepper is all I need but they have other fountain drinks. The salmon burger tastes so good that you need to be careful not to smother it w/ too many toppings. The place is clean & welcoming. Cathy is very attentive. Antiques abound. This is also the place for potty breaks if you're shopping the antique stores.

Liked the hometown feel and welcoming environment. Also, even though it wasn't on rye, it was the Patty Melt I've been looking for! Loved it!!!

It was so hard to stop eating long enough to snap a photo! #jackDanielsPecanPie

Super quick and friendly service in a cute cafe. Plenty of tables and seating available...good spot for small and/or large groups. The iced tea (both the sweet and unsweetened) is worth the trip alone. If you're a fan of pecan pie - try theirs! Jack Daniels Pecan Pie I decided to try a piece after reading other yelp reviews and I am happy I did.

Black and Bleu Burger to go!

Was on my way back to Dallas from Austin and saw this restaurant on Yelp. Pulled I to town to have lunch and was a great choice.

Very disappointing. Tuna melt was runny and dripped out of the sandwich. One of the most disappointing meals I have ever paid for

Inside you'll find some booths along the perimeter of the room and large, round tables with wonderful upholstered chairs in the center. Can't say enough about the comfort of the chairs- very upscale. Our server was very sweet and efficient- there when we needed her but not hovering. The food is glorious. They are a bit on the expensive side, but the food is so good we did not mind the prices. I had the chicken and waffles - nicely crisp chicken breast with very tasty waffles. My husband and granddaughter-in-law had the steak and eggs - with really good potatoes and onions; both were SO impressed with the flavor and the preparation. (I will be having this next time!). My grandson had 'Hong Kong' French toast, which I believe was made with Japanese milk bread and had berries and a custard. Also came with eggs and bacon. He could not speak highly enough about it. The portions are LARGE. We all took food home. I shared my plate with my great granddaughter (2 yrs) and still took food home! Honestly, we had booked another restaurant for the weekend of Mother's Day (day before) and we canceled that reservation so that we could go back to Farmers Commons! It's that good. Also, all the folks working when we were there were very sweet with my great granddaughter; we appreciated that. HIGHLY recommend for brunch. Now i want to try dinner too!

For dessert we split a slice of lemon cake and we were stuffed!!!

I also tried a bite of the strawberry cream waffle and it was delicious! Crunchy on the outside and soft and creamy inside. The service was quick and friendly, and overall just a great experience. I'm visiting from out of town, but would definitely come back here if I'm ever in the area.

Well first, the place is inviting for people of a certain age as well as for young people with many decorations evocative of the hippie era. It's clean and very pleasant. The menu is ambitious, I think they try too hard to be cute. And though the service was excellent, it all came down to the food for me. I ordered the Birdie Trio. It sounded interesting. But too many of these restaurants trying to do chicken and waffles take the shortcut and use processed boneless chicken parts reformed to look like an actual natural piece. I was supposed to get a thigh on each waffle. The chicken vaguely resembled thighs. But the meat was white and very salty. Not good. Should I ever drop in again, I'll stick with a more traditional combination and maybe my extra will be better. And oh, that credit card machine is set at a default of about 22% tip and that's on top of tax. Watch out!

Johnny's has three dining areas: a traditional side, a livelier side, and an outdoor section. We chose the traditional side, which was calm, low-key, and perfect for a relaxed meal. For food, we ordered a brisket baked potato, a brisket plate, and a BBQ combo plate, along with the jalapeño bacon-wrapped appetizer. The appetizer was excellent, not too spicy unless you hit a seed, and packed with flavor. One detail we really loved: the BBQ sauce is served warm. It may seem small, but it makes a big difference, and you can tell they care about the experience. The brisket was tender, not greasy, and not dry; exactly how Texas brisket should be. The baked potato wasn't a massive "Texas-size" portion, but it was just the right size and very satisfying. There were a lot of locals dining there, which is always a good sign. Overall, Johnny's delivered great BBQ, great atmosphere options, and a solid local vibe. We'd definitely go back!
