Cathy's Cafe was a pleasant little surprise. A very small storefront online with many little shops in a narrow alleyway kind of area in Salado. Upon entering I was surprised at how large the dining area actually was. Cute ambience with quirky decor. The space was very comfortable and the service very welcoming. It was busy and with only the owners working it took a little bit but it was easy to see they were working hard. All the items ordered were great and they had excellent prices. Overall, pleasantly surprised and happy we stopped in as we were passing by. We would definitely go again. read more

Cathy herself was seating, taking orders & delivering meals. Her husband was in the kitchen cooking. Very nice couple w/ a positive attitude despite C19 difficulties. My recommendation is the salmon burger or the grilled roast beef & melted Swiss cheese sandwich. Either way check the "daily specials" b/4 ordering from the menu. Dr. Pepper is all I need but they have other fountain drinks. The salmon burger tastes so good that you need to be careful not to smother it w/ too many toppings. The place is clean & welcoming. Cathy is very attentive. Antiques abound. This is also the place for potty breaks if you're shopping the antique stores. read more

We stopped in and enjoyed an excellent lunch. Hubby had the veggie burger (Cathy told him the ingredients they use to make their veggie burgers). Who does that? Cathy does because it's made right there in the cafe. I had the salmon burger (a special of the day) and it was the best one I've ever had; moist and flavorful. It was served with a side of their homemade tartar sauce, plus lettuce, tomatoes and pickles. I opted to just add the tarter sauce and pickles to the open faced salmon burger. If she still has key lime pie - don't hesitate to order it. It's outstanding too ! read more

It was alright. Our server was friendly but seemed to be pushing us a little...then we heard them tell a family who came in shortly after us that they were closing at 3 (the website says 4). So, yeah, they were trying to get us out the door (we came in shortly after 2). My hubs is picky about his chicken fried steak and tries it at every restaurant where it's offered. He was disappointed by the CFS here because he thinks it might be frozen (he likes it fresh). My tuna melt was okay - it got the job done. Nothing special to report. We stopped here for lunch one day midweek. The food was good ( chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, etc.), diner fare and sandwiches that looked good. What was most outstanding was the service. The man who waited on us was fantastic- handling the orders, refilling drinks, just really taking care of everyone. He even came out to the covered walkway to find us when our friend had left his credit card, a really nice person! And the desserts there were so delicious, we had the pecan pie and the coconut cupcakes, both were excellent. read more

I've always seen the cafe sign driving down 35 so it seemed like a reasonable place to eat lunch. We were seated after walking past the wilted salad bar. The bathrooms are filthy and the food is average. It was the second visit for my folks who determined this would be their last visit. It's such a cute location that has so much potential. The place needs to be cleaned up, redecorated and a menu overhaul. Our server was very attentive and helpful however. read more

Recently moved to the area from Austin, and we're checking out Salado one shop and cafe at a time. Stopped in here through Yelp. It has deli items as well as some dinner entrees. Asked for a suggestion and got the chopped steak mashed potatoes and broccoli. I am so sad to say that I couldn't finish it. The gravy was so gelatinous and tasted like it was from a package and the "steak" also looked like it was frozen and was still pink towards the center, not at the right temperature. :( Next time we'll try a sandwich maybe? I would give this restaurant 3.5 stars if I could. My husband and I stopped in for lunch here between antique stores and were pleasantly surprised. This cafe is further north along Main Street, in a shopping center that runs perpendicular to the road on the West side. It's well located, surrounded by antique stores and not far from the Salado Wine Seller and Fletcher's book store. However, you do have to be looking for it, as it doesn't have a lot of signage and can't be seen from Main Street. The food was affordable, typical lunchtime fare (I had a Buffalo Chicken Salad and my husband had a Hamburger). What makes this place special is its delicious pies! They had several to choose from: I had a slice of Coconut Cream Pie, and my husband had a slice of Bourbon Pecan. Both were great! read more

Stopped on Easter Mondsy with daughter and son in law. Service was friendly and quick. I had open faced roast beef sandwich with mash potatoes and green beans it was very good. Wife and daughter had grilled chicken entree. Both thought the chicken was a little over cooked but ok. Son in law had bowl of creamed brocolli soup and half chicken salad sandwich and was very good.
