Chupacabra has become our go-to spot when we want a date night without leaving Salado. It's not as…read morefancy as some of the other places around town, but that's also part of what we like about it. You can count on reliable service, good fried food, and a huge selection of beers. The beer rotation changes pretty often, which is probably a big plus for people who like trying something new every time. I'm more of a creature of habit, so I actually wish there was a little more consistency. I enjoy a good cider, and those seem to rotate quite a bit, so I never really know what will be available when we go. The bartenders are pretty laid back and usually let you do your thing, but once you get them talking, they're genuinely nice people. Overall, Chupacabra isn't trying to be a fancy date-night destination, and that's why we like it. Good food, lots of beer choices, a relaxed atmosphere, and a dependable place for us to get out for the evening without having to leave town.

Burgers and big and greasy. My first time here I ordered a double cheeseburger with fries. Could only finish half. The fries aren't my favorite kind unfortunately. Now I opt for the single with onion rings. You only get four onion rings, but they're better than the fries in my opinion. Soft drinks are refillable no matter which size you get. Regular size comes in a smaller plastic cup. Large comes in a bigger styrofoam cup. They do have a bar here...and some live entertainment some evenings. Looks like they serve breakfast sandwiches now. They also have a drive through. Great place for great burgers and cold drinks.

I ordered the hamburger club with a side of their honey mustard, and it was outstanding. The burger was cooked to perfection: juicy, flavorful, and made with clearly fresh ingredients. You can tell a lot of care and love goes into every smash. The honey mustard was excellent, though I wasn't as big a fan of the ranch (it had more tang than creaminess for my taste). The tater tots were crispy, salty, and had a perfect texture. Hands down, one of the best burgers I've had in a long time--and I travel quite a bit. Service was fantastic. The woman who brought our food (I didn't catch her name) was incredibly sweet and even gave my wife and me keychains as a thank you. They don't accept card tips, so be sure to bring cash for these hard-working folks. I'll definitely be coming back once a month. Highly recommend!

While we waited, we listened to some great country music. We got the Saturday special which is a combo cheeseburger , fries and a drink. Ask questions if it is your first time so as not to be surprised on the charges if you go bottled or fountains drink, or pick a side other than fries. The burger patty was thick and flavorful. Juicy with a hair pink. Not sure if that was intended or not. I have no problem with my burger that way but I know some who will not eat any pink showing. Fries were bland and I don't believe they seasoned them. The price for the experience is a bit high. Bottled drinks are over $3. Most of the menu items appear to be ala cart. Fries and drink extra which drives that cost up.

The Hop Queen got a half order of CFS, and as always, the entree and sides were extremely well executed, and filling. Even the half order was generous, and pretty much knocked out the need for an evening meal. I tried their Hot Honey chicken sandwich, and it was a very filling, tasty lunch meal. The sandwich itself had a little chili heat, and the Texas toast and other ingredients were a nice compliment to the overall flavour. Onion rings were very good; batter had a nice crunch and held up to the onion. Sweet tea is still very good, and our server took great care of us with refills and checking back. May have to get a dessert to go next time, the meals themselves leave us too stuffed to consider them at the time!

Everyone was friendly and attentive. We ordered the chicken-fried steak with two sides, okra and French fries, and shared it. The portion was plenty for both of us, and the price was right on point! The fries were average, and the fried okra tasted like it might have been frozen. The chicken-fried steak was a little thin and tougher than I would have liked, and the gravy was excellent. They don't serve alcohol, but here's a little tip: you can get a $14 Bloody Mary next door and bring it in to enjoy with your meal! Overall, the food had some room for improvement, but the excellent service, welcoming atmosphere, generous portions, and reasonable prices make this a place worth visiting. The fries (or chips for those across the pond) were well seasoned with salt, pepper, and something else that I couldn't identify but it tasted very nice.
