Quaint place downtown Belton inside the Katy building. Easy to find parking. The inside is very small. I wish there was more of an entryway. You have to leave the restaurant to use the restroom that is shared by several businesses. This place is great if you enjoy fried food. Classics like chicken fried steak, burgers, fries, etc. I really enjoyed the Chicken and Dumplings, cucumber salad, cabbage, and black eyed peas. They also have great housemade ranch dressing. I'm not sure if they serve breakfast. At one time they were serving breakfast, then they stopped. Service is nice but they can get really busy so patience is key depending on the day.
It's a cute diner with pretty good service. They're located in downtown Belton within the plaza. They're a bit tiny and don't have a lot of tables, but it didn't take very long for me to be seated. The server was quite friendly and patient, while I figured out what I wanted from the menu. Service was very solid; the server checked in on me every so often, but not too often. I ordered the Hawaiian burger with fries but substituted barbecue sauce for the honey mustard. I like my fries quite crispy, and they delivered perfectly. The burger was pretty good, too. The portion size was quite filling. They're a pretty solid choice for a no-fuss meal.
This restaurant is located inside an Old railway station with plenty of memorabilia. The food is traditional southern comfort food. The boxcar Burger meal included a tasty beef patty with lettuce and tomato under the Patty and a large bun. The french fries were tasty and seemed to be made to order which was impressive. Service was extremely good with wait staff coming to check frequently during the meal. The door to the restaurant stays open so if someone comes in it doesn't immediately shot which can be a little bit annoying. Since you were in a real road station you get that feel and almost anticipate a train coming down the line which can be a lot of fun. There are also some old rail cars located near the dining area. The okra was incredibly good and tasted as if it was freshly made. The large onion slice over the bun was also fun.
The lavender drink was incredible and the general aesthetic is top notch. It was a great place to stop by on a hot afternoon for lunch.
A group of us went to the Railway Express Diner in Belton for the first time. I love the decorations and family atmosphere. The food was good old home cooking that tasted great. The portions and pricing were good. I would highly recommend putting this family owned restaurant on your frequented visit list.
The food was amazing! And the Service was even better! 10/10! Definitely will be back! The portions are huge as well! The chicken fried chicken was cooked to perfection and the fries were so good!!!
Service was excellent! Food Great. Definitely will be coming back! I had the Chicken Fried Steak with Mashed Potato and Sid salad! Tender steak and real mashed potatoes! Salad dressing tasted homemade! Quaint little place with friendly people and great food! Can't wait to come back and try different things.
Amazingly good traditional diner meal, served with generous portions and friendly service. Nice vintage interior, as in a real train station from the days when people still traveled by train. We had our first visit about two weeks ago, and had a hankering for a good solid country diner meal. Our previous visit had given us a look at the menu, and we actually had preplanned what we were going to get! I got the chicken fried steak, and the Hop Queen got her catfish (craving) meal. She ordered their loaded fries, to try out and have some to take home (for later). I'm thinking she has hobbit blood, and was planning for "second lunch". There was a fair amount of trade going on, and the single server was keeping up with it all with a smile. Checked on us throughout the meal, and kept the drinks filled. Their sweet tea is especially good, much appreciated for Texas tastes in the summer. All of the food was exceptionally tasty, and made fresh - also, no long wait to come out. They also have some tempting dessert items on the board, but frankly we were too stuffed to even consider it. A great option for a meal while in town! read more
I've only been here a few times, but have always had a good experience. Most recently we went for brunch and both got the chicken fried steak and eggs. Great portion for the price and flavor was perfect. Service was friendly as always. read more

The service was great! She didn't rush us and checked on just the right amount of times. The food was fantastic! A chicken bacon grilled cheese on sourdough! The onion rings were good too but I was so full I couldn't finish them. I would definitely go back. read more

We drove to Belton to tryout the Railroad Express cafe from Sun City. I ordered the chicken fried steak with frys, my wife ordered the Twisted chicken. Both had a crispy coating with a tender fully cooked interior,great flavor! The fresh cut fry's were cooked the way I like them and they didn't skimp on the portions. We ordered the fried pickles as an appetizer and really enjoyed them. We had Ice tea to drink and it really hit the spot on a hot afternoon. Staff was very nice and efficient. This cozy restaurant is a great addition to downtown Belton! We were a party of 2 and were seated right away on a Sunday around 2. The Southern comfort menu has plenty of options. We Wisconsin people are picky about cheese curds- and the cheese curd appetizers passed our critical taste test! Partner's chicken fried steak was delicious, definitely recommend over my chicken sandwich. Onion rings are also phenomenal with their in-house breading. Portions are huge! The staff are very polite and attentive. They had the soft opening menu when we went mid March, and we were told they may expand their menu in June. Come check out this place! read more

We went to this place on a whim. We live in Temple/Belton area and have glanced at this place a few times over the last couple of months. We went close to 6:10pm (on this day they closed at 7pm) and were welcomed with smiles and friendliness. They seated us quickly and shortly after the diner started to fill with other last minute families. The atmosphere was still great and they did not hesitate to let people order anything they wanted. We started our family meal with the Cheese Curds and Fried Pickles. For flavors we picked the Garlic Curds. We had to wait a little bit for them to come out but once they did oh boy!!! Delicious is the only way to describe the curds. The fried pickles were ok to me. I get that they could have been sliced a little thinner and fried but the overall breading was seasoned well and seemed to complement the pickles. If these were sliced a little smaller I am sure they would be perfect!!! As a family we tried 3 main meals. The Chicken Fried Steak w/Corn & Mashed Potatoes. The Chicken Tender Plate and a burger. As we waited we saw that some customers ahead of us had ordered the Family Tender Meal and were amazed at how large they were. Pretty good deal in my opinion. Our food came out together with nothing delayed. The Chicken Fried Steak was very well seasoned. The meat was a little tough (to me) but tasted delicious. I only mention that to prep someone but I definitely cleared my plate. Chicken Tenders were decent. Not the most amazing in the world but delicious and filling. The homemade fries were also pretty good. The burger my wife had was tender and juicy and with her words... one of the better ones she has had in a while. As the 7pm time approached no one tried to usher us out or make comments and instead served with smiles. The owner came out and checked on everyone and made sure they had enjoyed the meals. While talking with him we asked about the Cheesecake and Cake on their dessert menu and heard the words "Made in House" and boom one of each was ordered. We got the Turtle variation. The cheesecake was gone in an instant and even the kiddos loved it! The cake was stashed away from their bottomless stomachs. Overall I think this place is great now and will be even better in the future. They are still renovating outside near the rear of their shop but overall the surroundings were pleasant. We will be going back at some point this summer and are excited to take the food again. read more
Wanted to try this place since it's new. It's in an old building. It was a little busy at 11:45 am on Saturday. There's no place to wait for a table but of the weather is nice you can walk around and they will call you. And there is plenty of parking in the lot across the street. We ordered the Katy Combo with regular cheese curds, okra and fried pickles; the Twisted Grilled Chicken, they were nice enough to sub the bacon for grilled onions, with the mashed potatoes and a side salad; the Hamburger Steak with mashed potatoes and okra. They were still in their soft opening but service was fairly quick. The food was delicious and we will definitely be back. read more

Railway Express Diner in downtown Belton is a cool little spot in a converted rail station. We got a BLT and a burger. Food was great, no complaints but getting 4 stars because the prices were higher than I'd expect for diner food. read more

Super service! Very humble. Great for a quiet, good ole country cooking. Menu includes everything from huge burgers, chicken fried steaks, catfish baskets, desserts like pumpkin rolls. A great casual place to grab a bite and walk downtown Belton. read more

Cute hidden spot in Belton. We definately will be back. Food was good and flavorful. Food portion, pricing & service was amazing. Also got the 3 choice appetizer which I forgot to take a photo of- got the fried pickles, onion rings and boudin which were all soo yummy. My kids could not stop raving about their ranch btw. read more
